Three stars, but we see potential.
We came here last night on the advice of a hairdresser and we liked the look and feel of the place after walking in. Then we were told that there would be a wait even though there were a ton of tables available. We did, and when we were sat in the main dining room, the acoustics were god awful. It took a long time for someone to come over and greet us. Not good, but we were put in a much better mood after getting the chips and salsa, which as excellent, as was the complimentary little dish of beans. Frozen and rocks margaritas aren't bad either. Queso is basic but acceptable. For mains, the tortilla soup was not very good. The diced chicken you could tell came out of a frozen Sysco bag and there were unappetizingly large, mushy strips of tortilla in it. No gracias. The pablo patron plate was better: a decent tamale and taco with passable sides. We were proud of our kiddo who ventured out of quesadillaland and got shrimp fajitas for a change. The tortillas and toppings were all great, but the frozen Sysco shrimp was kinda gross and the opposite of fresh. Anyway, we did oddly end up liking it here because we think that if we came during the week when it was less loud and busy, then we could get better service and have a nice experience. Maybe stick to more veggie stuff as well? We might be back...

Be the first to ReplyBeware the host stand wait times! Said 20 minutes and then
Beware the host stand wait times! Said 20 minutes and then texted me table was ready an hour and 40 minutes after - crazy!! When they told me 20, after 30 minutes I checked in and they said 6 people were ahead of me - they had a lot of people check in online and now it would be another 30 minutes - no idea why they would bump people checking in online ahead of us. Maybe I should have checked in online while I was waiting there and I would have been sat at my given time they did something similar last time - told us 30 ended up being 70 min...
Be the first to ReplyHands down worse experience in years at a restaurant.
Told 30min wait, wasn't seated for 70 minutes. Taking over an hour to get food. I'm still waiting ....The table behind us is still waiting to get their check, which they asked for 25 minutes ago. Also Half the tables are empty. What is happening here?
Be the first to ReplyIf you got time to waste eat here, 1hr wait and 15 minutes
If you got time to waste eat here, 1hr wait and 15 minutes to get greeted and another 30 to get served... for 3 people... food is good tho i guess
Be the first to ReplyThe 'Dark Side' I've been coming to Lupe's since it
The 'Dark Side' I've been coming to Lupe's since it opened, and have always been impressed with the food and great service, however the service has dwindled severely since the pandemic. There are 4 seating areas at Lupe's - patio, bar, main dining area inside adjacent to patio, and the 'Dark Side' which is a drab, dank room sectioned off from the main restaurant and facing the highway. We stopped in Friday at 4:30 and asked to sit in the main dining area which is bright and festive, and had plenty of empty tables. We were told there were not enough servers for us to sit there. We then requested to sit in the bar area and were told there were not enough bartenders for us to sit there. Off we were led to the 'Dark Side', with a first attempt to sit us at a tiny 2-top along the wall next to the restrooms. We pressed for a booth and were reluctantly given one. Our waitperson was efficient, but never offered dessert, or to-go boxes. I got the feeling we were an afterthought. One thing that had always been a bright spot at Lupe's was having a manager stop by the table - this used to happen on every visit! Not anymore. Add to that the long wait for drinks and I just don't want to come here anymore. Sad.
Be the first to ReplyBartenders are slow and inefficient.
And drinks weren't good. Left without even finishing ours drinks because they were so bad.
Be the first to ReplyRidiculously good Tex-Mex food.
Great delicious food served in large quantities with a smile. Staff is easy going and happy to accommodate. FIVE STARS!
Be the first to ReplyI was in town for business and meeting a friend for dinner.
The food was great. However, we sat at the bar, and the service was less than I expected. The host staff made up for it by being flexible with seating arrangements. Overall still a solid place to go.
Be the first to ReplyI've eaten here many times and I've had good meals and good
I've eaten here many times and I've had good meals and good service at the bar. If not for this last visit, I'd say this was probably a solid four star restaurant but not anymore. Last visit, 13 days ago, I opened a tab at the bar as I always have, ordered a beer and an appetizer. The bartender took my card, swiped it, handed it back to me, as bar staff has always done in the past. When I finished my meal asked to close my tab and the bartender said "I need to write down the 3-digit security code from the back of your credit card." I was sure I had misheard. "The CVV code?" I asked. "Yes, it's our policy" came the reply. I explained that under no circumstance was I giving that code to a retail server to WRITE on my check because it represented a significant and unnecessary security risk, paid cash and left. I assumed the bartender had made a mistake. Today the managing partner of the location called me back in response to a comment card I submitted, and confirmed that this was not a mistake, but said that the CEO of the company had made this a policy recently in light of "an increase in the number of people who had claimed that they had not dined there and disputed their credit card transactions." This makes no sense at all, since cards are SWIPED to open a tab, or to close a tab, meaning these are all handled as highly secure "card-present" transactions, 100%. (Contrast to online sales, where a credit card AND CVV code is entered securely, encrypted and not "written down" to verify that the card is in the hands of the authorized purchaser.) It has also NEVER occurred at any restaurant, bar, diner, take-out joint or ice cream stand I have patronized in about 40 years of dining out. EVER. No one has ever asked for the security code for a card-present transaction. Sorry Lupe, if that's your (absurd, indefensible, inexplicable) policy that is your prerogative, but this customer is now a former customer.
Be the first to ReplyOmg. I don't even know where to start. Just do yourself
Omg. I don't even know where to start. Just do yourself a favor and visit another place. So dirty. Broken glasses, the bartenders grabbing the clean glasses with their bare hands inside the glasses. Was our waiter taking coke breaks? Maybe. There's so much more that happened but we are just going to leave it. Never going back. Never. We have been customers here for years. So sad to see it go downhill. Don't smell the napkins. They smell like old oil. Nasty.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible first time experience visiting Lupe Tortilla.
We had heard good things about the beef fajitas so we decided to give it a try. We walked into this location and waited about 5 minutes until anyone even acknowledged us. Finally a waiter came by and helped us out. We were greeted by our waiter fairly quickly and he mentioned they were making more salsa and it would be out shortly. We started with queso which was pretty decent. We tried one of their red sangrias which was absolutely awful, very bitter. Once the "famous fajitas" arrived the platter wasn't even sizzling anymore. The beef fajitas had a very weird aftertaste almost as if the meat was close to going bad. Their giant tortillas were also very disappointing and cold when we got them. Probably will not be visiting this location again. The fajitas were also not worth $30 for half a pound.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time I've been here in a while.
Learned recently they have a brunch menu so decided to dine in. Food was of course delicious, had the barbacoa Benedict recommended by my server, Adam. Who was awesome! Super sweet and friendly. I think we became best friends today. Please if you go to lupe tortilla at arbor walk ask for him. I'll definitely be back this week if not tomorrow to see him. 10 out of 10 service.
Be the first to ReplyI've been here a few times and the service and food is
I've been here a few times and the service and food is always great. We got there for lunch early and it was eight people in total. They said it would be about a 20 to 30 minute wait. I we were fine with that however, in the meantime, to six top tables, and two for top tables got sat in front of us, and it extended our wait time to almost an hour. The reason I'm giving it bad stars is he was a beginning of our lunch and it would've been nice if we were gonna have to wait that long, once we were sad, the server was excellent at the food was great. It was just disappointing that they didn't have their logistics together to give us a good timeframe on when we would be set set
Be the first to ReplySo good !!!! And the drinks are legit.
..no watered down alcohol like the restaurants do in Phx
Be the first to ReplyI've heard so many good things about this place, especially
I've heard so many good things about this place, especially their steaks fajitas. We arrived today at about 11:30, the place was about 30% full. They took our number and told us to wait. About 25 minutes later they got us to a table. Seemed like the place was verrrrry understaffed, which is tough to believe since the prices are above average (quality is equally high I should note) thinking waiters would love to work here seeing higher tips. The chips and salsa were excellent and so we're the fajitas. Food came pretty quick all things considered but the staffing situation needs to be addressed. I'll probably try other locations but regardless I'll be back eventually.
Be the first to ReplyClassy with the best Tex-Mex in Austin.
This place has a fun vibe and a jazzy colorful interior it has an upscale feel at the same time. The drinks are a little pricey but you get what you pay for so it goes along with the upscale waitstaff and better-than-average food. I love the work they have put into the interior design and the landscaping to give the atmosphere and extra bang for your buck.It is always busy because people know this is a place to be!
Be the first to ReplyFood is delicious.
Wait is long. Be prepared to wait. Also the dark haired hostess on 12/27 was unpleasant and lacked kindness and just basic friendliness to customers. All else was great.
