Little Frenchie Coronado Reviews from The Last Year
Vas service and bad hygiene
Bad service, bad smell, the hostess had a bad image and poor judgment, they treated us badly and the hygiene in the bathrooms and kitchen left a lot to be desired.
Excellent French restaurant by the Beach!
Excellent French restaurant near the beach! We enjoyed both a lunch and, on another day, dinner. Very French menu done well. We will return soon!
Best French Brunch Restaurant in San Diego!
My wife & I returned back for the first time since our initial visit 4 months ago. Thankfully, we were seated in one of the tables served by Sokol, our server the last time we dined here last January. Sokol remembered us and our large party the last time he waited on the 9 of us. This time, we tried their monthly Cronut, which was a vanilla bean crème brûlée flavored offering. Then we split their French Dip sandwich and upgraded the side salad to fries. Our French Dip & fries were served as a split order and we didn’t need separate plates to share the entree (thank you Sokol!). Sokol kindly checked on us regularly by topping off our coffee, getting us a side of Tabasco sauce, and engaging us with welcomed conversation. While Sokol had many tables he was waiting on, he ensured we enjoyed our dining experience, he never rushed us to clear our table, and even offered to get us some coffees to-go. Little Frenchie not only has delicious food, but even greater service and hospitality which Sokol has provided to us the last two times we’ve come here. Thankfully, there’s still several other dishes we haven’t yet tried which we look forward to trying on future visits. Little Frenchie is by far one of our Top 5 brunch/lunch spots in the County!
Just an awful, not welcoming place.
Such a scar on the face of Coronado, a town that already has a bad reputation for inclusion. This place just kicked my party of two out in the rain. with a baby no less. The restaurant was 1/3 full and we were there in line before opening, everyone walked in at when the doors opened with everyone else at 9am including people behind us. When we sat down at a corner spot with the stroller, talked to the waiter and ordered drinks ; the hostess, NOT a manager proceeded to walk up to my family and say "we are reservation only this morning and have no walk in room" we told her we walked in like everyone else and she told us she "checked them in" however we were in front of parties and that wasn't true. She said "I thought you were going to the bathroom" so you won't let us eat here but you will let us use the restroom? The inside has 15 tables and only 4 at this point were taken. She told us "I can send a manager out" we just left, no scene or anything. At 9:45 we walked past and they still had half the restaurant tables open. I don't know if they were uncomfortable with the baby or the fact that I am a woman of color, but this was an unsettling experience. I cried in the car as my family tried to find a new breakfast place, I hope you read this review and don't fund this awful place. I'm still very upset with my experience here, I also wish I would've done more.

Yes, brunch is finally earning a 5-star rating from The Brunch Hater... can we check, has Hell frozen over? Are the feral hogs that one guy was so scared of starting to take flight? As much as it goes against every natural instinct of me to be giving this many stars, Little Frenchie was just that good. This little bistro on the main Orange Avenue thoroughfare of Coronado Island is an absolute delight! I had a swell time playing tourist for a day and passing all the shops and cafes along the road. The restaurant has a couple of tables and booths for couples and smaller parties inside, and sizeable windows that let in plenty of sunlight. There's also a small patio outside. Although we arrived about 30 minutes early for our reservation, the team was able to seat us right away in one of the comfy booth options. The interior is accented with foliage that, per a small note in one of the plant pots, seems to be lovingly tended to. I'm going to be completely honest, after being burned by so many "French-inspired" restaurants that serve mediocre and inauthentic food, the name of this place had me skeptical, but it was social media videos of their hot chocolate that ended up getting me. Believe me, when I liberate myself from the hold that TikTok has on me,,, So, of course, I had to order the Le Parisian hot chocolate [$15]. I've never seen an Angelina-esque hot chocolate service in the US, and was delighted to receive my drink in an adorable Salam by Degrenne teapot (the steel bell, we figured out, helps keep the chocolate warm), accompanied by a generous, piled-high dish of chantilly cream. What a delight! The hot chocolate itself was not quite as thick as I had expected, but that may have been for the best as the unassuming teapot turned out to contain about 4 cups' worth of hot chocolate. The chocolate itself was lovely and had an interesting flavor. Again, expectations were for a bittersweet flavor, and while the reality was sweeter (and a little saltier?) than imagined, it was still delicious. And the chantilly cream? Heaven. We were eating it with a spoon! Mixed into the hot chocolate, it was perfection. Yes, I daresay it may be worth the 15 bucks. You should get it just for the experience. It's great (and probably better) for sharing. I also had a sip of my partner's cappuccino [$6]. He is one of the most picky coffee drinkers that I know, and he declared Little Frenchie's version to be one of the best he's had in town. In terms of food, the menu presented a range of classic French bistro options as well as some more novelty items such as cronuts, cruffins, and spiral croissants. They have a new flavor for each of those pastries every month. Ever the sweets chaser, I chose the bruléed French toast [$20]. For me, it takes the cake for the most unique French toast rendition in San Diego. It tasted like a bread pudding-French toast hybrid made with panettone and chock-full of sultanas. The slight bitterness and crunch of the brulée topping, the Grand Marnier, the sweetness, and the touch of freshness from the side of fruit was a heavenly combination. The dish was surprisingly dense but not at all heavy. After 2 cups of hot chocolate, I could only eat half of it. My partner went with the beef short rib hash [$28]. Do any other girlies agree with my philosophy that a brunch date should require 1 savory and 1 sweet dish? This man is With It. Short rib is nearly always good, but this dish was really great. The crisp potatoes, poached egg, deep savoriness of the beef... I also noticed that you could order your eggs in this dish cooked differently (one plate that passed us by had soft scrambled eggs on top). My partner was also only able to eat about half of this dish before tapping out. Although the prices may be on the high side for brunch, it was worth it to enjoy the deliciousness as leftovers the next day. Most importantly, the restaurant is not stuffy at all. Great for a casual time out but high-quality enough to feel special. We were relieved that it wasn't too noisy inside despite it being a weekend at peak dining hours. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and polite without being overly stilted, and he genuinely seemed proud of the dishes he served. Unfortunately, I didn't catch his name, but he was an older gentleman and I hope to encounter him again on our next visit. So, yes, the hype is warranted. Get the hot chocolate, even if you don't get anything else. Bring someone to share with. Little Frenchie receives the impossible 5-star brunch review, so skip Fig Tree or Hash House and try something more interesting!
Amazing food! Chase was great and patient with us and all
Amazing food! Chase was great and patient with us and all of our food choices. :) Had the escargot, tasted amazing and wonderful with the sauce and bread. Loved the deviled eggs. They were a little runnier than the ones we make at home so that was a little different for us but wow so tasty and that bed of salad that they are on top of, with this amazing dressing, sooo good! Beet salad, great, onion soup -yes a must! We has so many appetizers we skipped the main and went to dessert... hahaha Must do the hot chocolate! It's like a deep chocolate like a liquid pudding with this amazing chantilly cream that you eat on a spoon with the chocolate draped over it. O m g. Must do it. Also the Grand Marnier soufflé. Ok I wouldn't normally order this because of the "alcohol liquor" but it's a lovely hint of orange with mostly a vanilla cream that the talented lady pours into the freshly baked soufflé puff. So so good. Don't pass it up. We also loved the berry cake and the layered pastry with hazelnut. This place really is a gem in Coronado and we are so glad we were able to try it! Til next time! Au Revoir!
Bad service, food didn't come out together.
Ordered the steak med rare they sent it out rare. Once we sent it back they re heated the original steak to well done. Waited for roughly 45 min for the food to arrive and ended paying over $100 and did not eat breakfast. Disappointed is an understatement.
Best Champagne and great food
Little Frenchie is a great little restaurant with outstanding food and French Onion Soup. They also have plenty of excellent French champagne on ice by the glass or by the bottle. Definitely worth a visit.
Cute inside, service was good.
But way too overpriced for what you get. $24 for three deviled eggs. French onion soup was good, but you basically get cheese with a side of soup. And $34 for watered down mussels. I wanted to love it, but out of all of the expensive San Diego restaurants, this one was not it.
Beautiful cafe.
A lovely happy hour menu and kind service. I got the half French dip. Hot and delicious / very flavorful. Incredible cheese on the sandwich. Nice entry level GSM on Happy hour.

Stayed at the beautiful hotel del Coronado in San Diego for a long weekend . Concierge recommended this wonderful restaurant a couple of blocks away. The best meal we had all weekend. My daughter had the chicken , which was melt in your mouth delicious. I had the prawn, orange and grapefruit salad which was also delectable. Service was excellent. You must get a spritzer..blood orange was outstanding. Highly recommend this charming restaurant when you visit San Diego.
Best meal we had in Coronado.
It is very charming and we brought our baby with us and the staff was very accommodating.
Little Frenchie.
.. Big Flavor. This was a NYE brunch stop in Coronado for us. The restaurant was a bit small but there was decent seating outdoors. Belly recommends avoiding the french onion soup if you are prone to choking on cheese. Beare says this place breathes brunch and morning mimosas. Overall, a solid choice on the island.
Little Frencie’s. Nice for any meal on Coronado.
We have been enjoying Little Frenchies since they opened. Probably sounds a bit snobby but it is one of the two places we frequent on Coronado Island (please see my review of Tartine). We went for dinner a week ago and as usual started with the cheese board. As usual it was filled with interesting cheeses, good assortment of other goodies and plenty of crispy bread. Highly recommended. Then came the Moules Mouclade (curry mussels) and the Duck A L’Orange. I would definitely recommend the mussels, just the right amount of curry. The sauce was dutifully soaked up with the crusty bread that it came with. The duck was also to be recommended. A very tasty meal that we have come to expect. But this is not a review about the food. We wanted to acknowledge Emily, who we are pretty sure has also been with Little Frenchies since they opened their doors. We have seen her evolve from a server to a waitress and now a manager. I don’t think we have ever seen her miss a beat. She always seems to be in a good mood, very personable, professional and pretty unflappable ( we have watched her diffuse some pretty awkward situations). She just seems to keep the ship on an even keel. One of the things that we noticed is how the other staff members respond to her. The whole atmosphere just seems more relaxed. We always know that if Emily is there we are going to have a good night.

Fabulous meal and setting!
We loved Little Frenchie so much, we ate there a second time! Our servers Kimmer and Henry were fantastic! Emily, the manager, was delightful and very helpful. We ate outside under the heater and enjoyed watching everyone walk down Orange Ave. I started with a Cranberry Blood Orange Spritz which was great! They had great non-alcoholic beer for my husband. We started with the French Onion Soup which was delicious. Kimmer helped me pick out the cheese for my cheese plate and was very knowledgeable. I love cheese and have it often so I appreciated her discussions with me. The cheese board was phenomenal! Delicious honey, little figs, apples, strawberry, 3 cheeses, candied pecans and delicious baguette slices. Kimmer suggested a delicious dry French Riesling to go with my cheese. My husband’s burger with Raclette was outstanding. The frites were fabulous. We enjoyed it so much we went back for lunch the next day which was equally as delightful. Our server was also fantastic and he made us laugh. I had the “GB&J” (grilled levain bread, port poached figs, honey french brie, organic mixed greens) which was delicious. The blend of flavors was fabulous. My husband had the American Breakfast and loved it. The potatoes he said were fabulous. Their espresso drinks are great. We also tried their chocolate croissants which we took to go for breakfast in our hotel. They were so good, we brought 2 home on the airplane! We recently spent a month in France and Little Frenchie’s food was actually better than some of the Bistro’s we dined in. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
Great food, long wait.
Food was excellent, but the wait to get into this little French bistro is long. Expect to wait 30 - 45 minutes for a party of 6 adults & 3 kids. I saw the hostess turn away families with stroller after stroller …she says there is no room for a stroller. Just like restaurants in France, NOT particularly kid-friendly. Nice waitress though!
Best burgers
We where here to try the burgers and very impressed! They are on a Micheline list and the burgers surved up to that! They surved the burger and poured the melted cheese on top on our table for each of us. It was amazing definitely will return.
Late Lunch
Have lunch on this beautiful place as we walk around, being new on this island. We have burger, really good and service was efficient even though it was a busy lunch day. Food is great, though bit expensive. It was the experience on trying French menu in America. For tourist, this is good place to try.
Nice Breakfast and Lunch
I had bacon and eggs, my wife had the cheeseburger for lunch. This was a new restaurant for us, we enjoyed the ambience, food was good, service was excellent. Try it at least once if you've never been, I'm sure they have regulars.
Fantastic Service. Terrible food for the price
Visiting family in town and was super excited to try this restaurant after reading all the rave reviews. The menu is a bit pricey so I was expecting the food to be exceptional. I ordered the steak and frites which was suppose to be a wagyu beef. The fries were not crispy and the meat I had a few bites and couldn't finish. It was not edible. A shame because they charge $60 for steak and fries so you would expect it to be delicious. It was bad. Will not be going back. It's a shame because the service was good. I can't fault our waitress who was exceptional !
