We had a great time! This place has a cool old American vibe, and the live music definitely added to the fun. The service was spot on - attentive, friendly, and quick, which really contributed to the overall great experience. Their beer list was pretty impressive, and the food was really good. The cheeseburger was amazing, perfectly cooked and super tasty. The fish and chips were also great, really fresh and crispy. Their French onion soup was some of the best I've ever had, really cheesy and flavorful. The lobster roll was a bit of a letdown because it was a bit bland and the chips were a bit overcooked, but it didn't ruin the night. The desserts were the highlight of the meal. The chocolate bread pudding was fantastic, and the banana cake was the perfect mix of flavors, especially with the espresso creme. Overall, between the delicious food, great atmosphere, and excellent service, I'd definitely recommend Lighthorse Tavern. It's a solid five-star experience.
Be the first to ReplyI've had a couple of solid meals at the Light Horse Tavern.
The food is good, and the menu has a ton of options so it's great for groups or picky eaters. What I really love about the Light Horse Tavern is the vibes! Every time I have been here, they've had live music. It's such a fun treat to grab a bite and enjoy some jazz music.

We love the LHT! Whether it's lunch, dinner, or a quick cocktail before evening plans - this place is friendly and welcoming. The food is good, and the Espresso Martinis are fantastic. Do not miss!
Be the first to ReplyAwesome atmosphere and service.
Food is very good also. Love the martini brought to the table in the shaker. Perfect pour. Cheesesteak melts in your mouth.
Be the first to ReplyThe wine list is great.
The food selection is stuck in the 90's. Why do they have zero vegan entree items available? I'm giving this place 4 stars because the ambiance is nice, wine was great and the one item I could eat, the shishito peppers were delicious. I just moved to the neighborhood and was disappointed by the lack of vegan friendly options in 2024. We live in Jersey City, not middle of nowhere Texas. I hope they figure it out and add some vegan friendly options to be more inclusive. It's really not that hard and caters to a wider audience.

The food is not so great. Lobster roll is ok but expensive. We had calamari, tuna, and beet salad for apps. Unfortunately all were not so good. The burgers were also not tasty. Overall the food is a flop. Everything else was good
Be the first to ReplyUpon browsing the website online, this restaurant appears
Upon browsing the website online, this restaurant appears to be a mid level quality restaurant appealing to middle-upper class customers. The tables are dressed in white cloth as are the servers in white button downs. However it is visible that the restaurant hasn't been updated in years and it comes across in the service as well as their clientele. On the occasion I went in, I was greeted with a lukewarm response only to be told I couldn't order what I wanted and had to come back later. I returned a couple hours later ready for a delicious meal. I was checked on by the bartender at most 3 times and none of the people in my vicinity at the bar seemed to be happy but simply content. This made it clear the restaurant is quite pompous and appeals to those who do not like to socialize; which to me seems the purpose of a bar. When I received my meal (duck) it was overcooked & the sauce was far too sweet. I overpaid for it as well as the 2 drinks I was given-one was an average wine, the other an extremely strong whiskey sour. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone with a personality or palate, as you will be extremely dissapointed.

Upscale pub. 16 beers on tap. Fantastic drink menu. Awesome food menu. We will definitely be back.

Cool vibe for Paulus Hook. The bartender here is iffy. Tentative AOK. The Maine IPA on draught was solid. Forgot to mention that.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service and subpar food at high prices.
I came here with my wife to celebrate her promotion, and from the moment we entered we had a feeling we'd be disappointed. The hostess was incredibly rude and didn't even look at us when we came in, as she was playing a game on her phone. Things just got worse from there, as the food was bland and some dishes even tasted like they'd gone bad.I won't be returning, and suggest you avoid if you want a good value. The Lobster Shack and the White Star tavern nearby are much better options.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing! 2nd time here and still just as impressed.
Started with raw bar, delicious! Our entrées were as equally delicious! Because of the amazing staff and incredible food we will return

This is a partial NYE post experience, as you know, I'm sure things are a bit different on any other normal day. To begin, when you walk into the main dining area you feel at home and there are many things to look at. From high ceilings, to the old school tiles, to beautiful bar. Glows:-Staff is friendly upon their initial greeting. -Decor is super warm and inviting. -There are quite a few options on the menu, so something for everyone. -Live music (not sure if they do this often, but call and find out)-Service is as good and staff is attentive

The Light Horse Tavern, named after Revolutionary War hero General Harry "Lighthorse Harry" Lee and located in Jersey City, New Jersey, is a great place to grab a meal.First, the ambiance is definitely pretty stellar. It is warm and inviting and allows you to feel comfortable as you look over the menu and plot your meal. The menu is extensive and everyone should be able to find something to grab their interest and tempt their tastebuds.Jersey City has certainly come into its own and having great places like the Light Horse Tavern makes Jersey City all the more of a trending city. All in all, I would definitely recommend the Light Horse Tavern and I will give it five stars. If you find yourself in Jersey City and want a great meal, head on over to the Light Horse Tavern. I am confident that you will enjoy a memorable meal as well as an overall memorable experience. Again, I will give the Light Horse Tavern an overall rating of five stars.

Food is good, but management/service could use an improvement. Why don't you list the name of the garage you have a deal with on your site? Or when people call? You just say two blocks away - guess what - there is a garage two blocks away in both directions. So of course we picked wrong and are paying 3x as much for parking as we should. Also the balding surly waiter needs a new profession.

Walked in with a reservation and kind of stood around the piano for a bit while we were unseen or ignored by staff. After a few awkward moments, someone came over to check us in and seat us. Here's the food breakdown:French onion soup - 4/5. Good flavor and cheesy but a bit on the salty side.Crispy Pork Ribs - 5/5! Order of 5 to share between 2. They're big and enough to constitute a meal. These were so dang good. Honestly, i would go back again and again just for these. LHT Burger - 4/5. Good burger. Lobster Roll - 4/5. Great lobster roll! Probably the best I've had in the JC/NYC area, outside of the hamptons or Maine.

Despite living down the street from Light Horse Tavern, yesterday was only my second time dining there and first time for brunch. It was a great experience and I'll definitely be adding this place to my list of brunch spots for when we have visitors. Bloody Marys are big and only $7 - a steal for the area considering similar-sized drinks elsewhere cost $10-$12. The menu has many unique flairs; we tried the Deep Fried Oysters and Parma Ham Grilled Artichokes and really loved both, especially the oysters, which were very fresh and didn't have the fishy taste that sometimes accompanies fried seafood. For entrees, my husband and I split the Pastrami sandwich and the Oaxaca Rancheros; both were delicious! The sandwich was a bit greasy and had to be eaten quickly to retain the taste, but still enjoyable overall. Definitely looking forward to returning soon.
Be the first to ReplyCame with a group, so prix fixe menu.
Onion soup was good - slightly salty but nice and cheesy. Skirt steak was done perfectly. Only disappointed by the "chocolate" bread pudding which had minimal chocolate and freezer burned caramel ice cream on top. Should have chosen the cobbler - it looked much better. Hard to serve a whole room, so hats off to the patient and gracious waitstaff here.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently one of the best restaurants in jersey city.
I actually crave the tuna tartare ! The drinks are a little hit or miss- great flavours for the cocktails but last time I went it was too strong to enjoy ! I particularly enjoy the ambiance- dark lighting, but not too dark, good level of conversation and sometimes they even have live music !

Not sure if we had issues because we sat outside, but we waited 30-45 minutes for our food and when it came the order was incorrect. We didn't even ask for it to be corrected because it took so long to get it. We didn't get asked if we wanted another round of drinks until we were about to leave, never got a refill of water, etc. Our waiter was super nice and I honestly feel horrible for him, because it seems the restaurant itself is very understaffed.

One of my favorite places either has me owners or new management. But once a nice friendly place is not at all the maitre de doesn't even greet his guests. The dark haired guy with a moustache Are you f*ckin kidding me. Same with bearded bartender. Smile you know to the patrons. Really? It's a shame because i use to look forward coming here. Now they are as friendly as people at a bus station. The food has dropped a little. I hate posting reviews like this. However i use to adore this place. Now we ended up here because couldn't find parking anywhere

This review is for their Lobster Garage around the side of the building. We visited the Lobster Garage on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm. We thought we may have beat the brunch/lunch rush, and we did, but that lasted all of 15 minutes. People come here for the vibes and the drinks. The food maybe not so much. A few notes on why: Vibe:-Absolutely laid back and beautiful. It's easy to spend hours here just enjoying the scenery, drinks and sitting in a bright, colorful picnic table, bench or bar. Drinks:My boyfriend got a captain and ginger ale and I got the pina colada. His drink was very strong and mine was deliciously sweet and felt like I was on an island. This also lends to the vibe and makes it easy to spend hours when the drinks are good and the outdoor setting is inviting. The food:This is where it gets a bit dicey. For the price, I hoped that the dishes were tasty. Unfortunately, they weren't. We both ordered buttered lobster rolls at $28 a piece. And while it included a decent amount of lobster, there was lettuce (strange) and not an ounce of butter to be found. The lobster (as others mention) was super tough and chewy. It did come with house made potato chips and coleslaw. Definitely stick with the house made chips as they are delicious, but the fries were just ok. My boyfriend also has the clam chowder which was decent, but again for the price and taste, it wasn't great. All that said, I'd give this place 3.5 stars if Yelp allowed it, but since I'm kind, I'll round up to 4 stars for the fantastic outdoor setting, drinks and tasty chips.
