My favorite place
My favorite restaurant in Jersey City. The meatloaf is a winners the vibe fun and relaxing, the staff very professional.
Be the first to Replyjerk-off bartender who couldn't care- a- less!
great burger, but terrible, terrible bartender. ordered a burger, and this jerk asked me if I wanted cheese, ( I never have cheese on my burgers), and I said no I do not want cheese, and I clearly stated I want it as it comes. my bill had a charge for cheese! he never acknowledged my friend and I at the bar and was staring at the TV above us, basically had us waiting to see a menu, and never made eye contact. what a jerk-off! one of the worst bartenders I have experienced.

What a delightful place got taken by a client but had to return 2 days later with my wife. Great food, great beer and wine selections and great staff. Special shout to Sean our waiter on Saturday afternoon who looked after our every need. This place is fantastic

We had various dishes, all of which were excellent, with friendly service and great live music with a grand piano and saxophone. Really great!

Busy and understaffed. Waited almost 30mins after being seated before the waitress came to the table. Thank goodness it was sunny and warm outside.

Delicious food, quick and friendly service. I had the crab cakes and my husband had a seafood dish. They were both so good. We also got desert. All good. We found out that they have a cute little outside eatery around the corner and we actually ate there as well. It is the same meu.

Nice restaurant located in a super cute area of Jersey city. We got to sit outside since the weather was looovely and there were a lot of open tables. Our server was super nice and attentive of us. We got 3 things to share - the french onion soup, eggs benedict with house smoked salmon, and the croissant french toasts.

Be the first to ReplyNice place to have dinner and hang out at bar
I was staying at the Hyatt at Jersey City and wanted to walk outside given it was a great night and found this restaurant about 10 minutes away from the hotel. Was able to go in and sit down at the bar, ordered a beer, ordered salad and Risotto, and then left. The food itself was very good, just the portions were very small, and almost felt like tapas portions; if that was the case, paying $60 for salad + risotto + beer was a bit steep. The service was luke warm at best, greeted me fine and gave menu, then never saw him until he handed me the check, which was unusual as he was one of the bartenders and kept walking past me. After I paid him, he grabbed the bill, never looked at me, said enjoy the night, anything. So quietly got up and left. For the type of restaurant and amount paid, at least a "have a good night", "thanks, come back again", or anything acknowledging my existence would have been nice. Too bad as I could have seen myself going back there again as it did have a nice look.
Be the first to ReplyWill Become Our Jersey City Go-To
We are from Long Beach, CA, but like to visit our son and daughter-in-law in Jersey City, but stay easily-accessible to Manhattan - so we stay at the Westin Jersey City - see my separate review. A walkable 7/10 mile south on Washington is the Light Horse Tavern, a very casual but well-appointed and comfortable bar and restaurant. The fried oysters were excellent, as was the Jersey Chowder (a mixture of NE and Manhattan chowders), creamy Lobster Bisque, Mussels, and Swordfish. I often judge a restaurant by its meatloaf - and this was first-rate, wrapped in thin bacon, savory and fully flavorful. We were five people, who had starters, cocktails, wine, dinner and after dinner drinks for $564, including tips, so while not-inexpensive, it is not unreasonable. Half our bill was a bar bill, because we were celebrating. We will absolutely return the next time we are in Joisey City. BTW, we will not go anywhere without a reservation, and those that don't take them are foolish.
Be the first to ReplySmall Portion + Big Price / Bad Management
Want a small portion at a big price all while getting treated poorly by restaurant management? Of course you donโt. I didnโt either, but thatโs what I got from Light Horse Tavern in Jersey City tonight. Iโd ordered the $24 risottoโa pretty steep price for a vegetarian dish. After waiting a good 30 minutes, what was brought to my table was about one-half to two-thirds of a normal entree portion, based on the dozens of risottos Iโve ordered at other restaurants. I was pretty shocked that the entree was so smallโan entree that involved a little rice, some cream, a few pea pods, and a squirt of lemon. So I expressed my disappointment and sent the dish back. The manager never came to my table, never offered a solution or explanation, and just sent the bus girl over with a menu to tell me I could order something else. Now why would I choose to give such a thoughtless, entitled establishment more of my money and time after such poor treatment and poor food? I didnโt. I donโt think you should either. And this wasnโt a one-off either, and the staff admitted that this is just the portion that is standardโand didnโt act like I was the first to be disappointed about the lopsided price-to-portion ratio.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, lively atmosphere with good and affordable food
Went for dinner on a Sunday - excellent steak and fish; wine list by the glass is OK though the regular list (bottles) is much better. Excellent service. Live jazz on Sundays a bonus - really worth it. We will definitely be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and great service!!
We ate here on the Monday night and it was so great that we came back on Thursday! The menu is great, lots of variety and everything we had was beyond delicious. The servers were friendly and attentive and there was a really nice acoustic musician on the Thursday night. Highly recommend!

The room is inviting and the staff is helpful. The dishes are straight forward and prepared well. There is live jazz at times, enhancing the dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Food, Bad Service.
It was a beautiful day and I was walking around Jersey City taking pictures. I started to get hungry and looked up "restaurants near me". I will try any place with the word "Tavern" in their name, so I went to the Light Horse Tavern. The hostess was very nice and I was seated at a table near the bar. There were several other tables with people having lunch but it wasn't overly crowded. There were only a few people at the end of the bar. I loved the atmosphere and vibe of the place. There were some tables outside and a few people at them.
Anyway, a good 12 minutes went by before anyone came to my table. I only know that because I had texted a friend of mine as soon as I got there, to tell them where I was. When the server asked me what I wanted to drink, I told him I wanted coffee and I knew what I was going to have for lunch as well. I ordered the French Onion Soup and the Wedge Salad. I waited another 10 minutes for the coffee. The vibe was getting weirder by the second. There were two guys at the table next to me and only one of them had a plate of food in front of him. I assumed the other guy wasn't eating ... until his food came 5 minutes later.
I'm not going to complain about my soup costing $11 because it was delicious and it was my decision to order it. The wedge salad was also delicious. I do have to mention that once my food was served, no one ever came back to check on me or offer me more coffee. It was very strange. The coffee cups are tiny and I finished it pretty quickly and would have loved a second cup!
When I finished eating and realized no one was coming back to check on me I flagged down the busboy and told him I was ready for my check. My server then brought my check and put it down on my table. Not even a "thank you" or "how was everything?". My bill was $27 and I left $30. Sorry, but I'm not giving anyone a great tip when they completely ignored me the entire time.
Would I ever go back? Sure. Maybe they were short staffed or it was just an off day, I have no idea ... but the food was much better than the service, and if I'm paying $11 for a bowl of soup and another $11 for a salad ... I expect better.
Great Raw Bar In JC
After visiting NYC we decided to skip eating there and the Lighthorse Tavern was suggested. Literally 2 minutes from the Holland Tunnel , parking is hit or miss. We lucked out. Ordered some oysters, shrimp and clams at the bar. The Onion Soup is delicious as well as the Steak Sandwich. Plenty of choices on the menu to satisfy every ones taste. Good experience.
Be the first to ReplyToo much garlic
Cooks in here seem to have only one idea: put in as much garlic as possible, in every food. Everything tastes like garlic bread. Wait staffs are giving you a vibe that the customer is bothering them at the maximum!
Be the first to ReplyCV-19 review: Fabulous food, safe service
This was my first time seated in a โbubbleโ to eat, and it was quite a pleasant experience โ they definitely keep the wind off, and with some sub or a little heater, even very cold weather can have the edge taken off it. The food was excellent, as it always has been here, the French Onion soup had a nice bold flavour, and my Eggs Benedict with Salmon was delicious, and the eggs perfectly poached.
Be the first to ReplyGreat place for burgers and beer!
The place has a great vibe and ambiance, the burgers and top and the beer selection is great. Overall a great experience.

Love the upscale bistro food here and their fantastic selections of wine. The decor is also lovely and I consider this a neighborhood gem.
Be the first to ReplyTruly Exceptional
Arrived in New Jersey starving, and just wanted to get something good. This place was the second highest rated in Jersey City, and had availability, and I figured everyone would enjoy the pub menu. We were blown away. The swordfish was divine, as were the vegetable sides. The hanger steak was great. The deserts were delicious and surprisingly light. Glasses of wine were very reasonably priced, and the selection was well above average. I'm here in town for a week, and will definitely be going back!
