Leon's Charleston Reviews from The Last Year
2.5/5. Pretty disgusting oysters full of sand and unclean.
2.5/5. Pretty disgusting oysters full of sand and unclean. Spat out two out of four. Could here the person shucking cursing someone- me? The service was just meh, bartenders seemed bored. Cucumber salad was the saving grace. I was excited to try this recommended joint- but don't go, I wouldn't recommend. I was also labelled solo lady (that I can see on my receipt) wonder what they label other diners.
Very disappointing
I have had Leon’s on my places to go and we had the opportunity today while downtown. We had no idea where to park. The area behind the restaurant was not very good. We drove around until finally getting a spot on the road. We were seated quickly for lunch. The place is nice inside and our waitress was prompt. Both of us ordered the 2 piece white chicken. I had the cole slaw and my wife had the black eye pea salad. I had heard so much good stuff about the chicken which is why I wanted to go here. The skin on the breast was nice and crispy and the meat was pretty good. There just wasn’t much meat, mostly bone. The wing had a weird taste. The cole slaw was ok. It wasn’t Mayo based but not sure it was vinegar based either. The black eye pea salad was simply black eye peas. They were also just ok. The price was high. $14 for the chicken and $5 for each side. The $14 was certainly too high for what we got. We were excited about going here but left very disappointed.
A mandatory stop each time I'm in Charleston.
Best oysters, great drinks/beer selection and friendly staff. Will always return when I'm in town!
Always great food and a good time.
Oysters 5 stars. Frozen G&T is amazing. Been coming for 8 years and is still the best,
The food is always phenomenal.
I had fried shrimp with cucumbers (not my fav). My husband had peel and eat shrimp with black eye pea salad and scalloped potatoes. The hostesses are not the best. People were seated in front of us. This is the second time we have had problems with the hostesses. There's no ambiance! You go for the food!
Leon came highly recommended for our trip to Charleston.
When we arrived on Friday night, we were told there was a possibility we wouldn't be seated and we had to put our name on a list. When we were on our way to another restaurant, we received a text about 30 minutes later saying that we can be seated. We chose to stay and we were happy that we did. A tasty dinner complete with cocktails (of course!) This restaurant was highly recommended and I see why. The inside is quintessential southern charm with a bit of an update. The chargrilled oysters were delicious. We also ordered the shrimp + scalloped potatoes, and shrimp rolls. Each of us enjoyed our cocktails. Our server was so hospitable and even gave us recommendations during our trip to Charleston.
Just felt like chicken & oysters so I stopped in and Leon's
Just felt like chicken & oysters so I stopped in and Leon's did not disappoint!! Sending all my love to the person frying the chicken! The chicken was fried to perfection! Paired with the combination of oysters will knock your socks off!! I sat at the bar because it was a quick lunch but the service was good and I didn't have to wait to be seated. $50 for lunch was a little pricey but damn it I deserve it!!
Welcome the Charleston Baby!!! This was an excellent first
Welcome the Charleston Baby!!! This was an excellent first meal on my first visit to Charleston, SC. Catfish was seasoned and fried to perfection and the sofserve ice cream was rich and custardy (is that a word? Well It is today) just like I like it. Oh and I can't forget about the ever so helpful and attentive bartender Taylor (he's a cutie ) tell him you want the Daytripper...it's sure to have you tripping through your day
I love Fried Chicken, and love Oysters, so had to check it
I love Fried Chicken, and love Oysters, so had to check it out... Seemed to be retrofitted gas station or car repair shop, but very well done with nice furniture and decor. The bathroom wall paper is especially entertaining, though might be awkward for kids under 10. Service friendly all around. $18 Leon's World Famous Char-Grilled Oysters...6 tasty oysters grilled with lemon, parsley, butter, parmesan, good stuff! Raw oysters usually $3 each, so pretty solid deal for the extra work and ingredients. $5 Small Cucumber Salad...fresh, delicious, hipster style in a nice marinade and seasonings...its like a bowl of pickles, elevated. $14 Fried Chicken - White Meat...very good! The chicken was hot, juicy and succulent. The breaded skin was flavorful with nice touch of heat. I just wish the breading was thicker and crispier. It's also a la carte, so it seemed a bit overpriced for what you got. Maybe if it was $10 or $11. Or include a biscuit. $3 PBR Draft...I couldn't help myself at that price!
Such a cool ambiance.
Food did not wow us. 2 piece chicken was so tasty but not enough for a meal. Luckily we added black eyed pea salad (bland), hush puppies (yum). My companions had the fried chicken and fried fish, added scallop potatoes- yum. Skip the ice cream, especially the strawberry shake - fake flavor.
Leon's is a Charleston staple with amazing drinks, Decius
Leon's is a Charleston staple with amazing drinks, Decius oysters, and some of the best fried chicken around. Even if there's a wait, it's worth it to put your name in and then get a drink or an app at any of the amazing places nearby. Popular for a reason!! Highly recommend sitting outside on the patio if weather permits!
Long wait
We were looking forward to Leon's based on recommendations. Wait was long. Food was ok. Cocktails were overpriced for the serving size. Overall underwhelming.
Eating good country food
Food great. Atmosphere fun. Service good. Only problem was no reservation and wait long. Hush puppies good. Wife thought fried chicken good but has had better in MD. Scallop potatoes great.
Underwhelming
Went for fresh oysters but was underwhelmed by the 3 slightly slimy possibly not totally fresh ones I was given which is sad because I love oysters and prefer raw ones whenever I visit a city or area where I can be guaranteed local ones. However, the iceberg lettuce stack with buttermilk dressing. It was fresh and cold. The dressing was delicious, a first time tasting for me. Still a bit sad that the oysters weren’t up to par.
Excellent Afternoon Meal
I had the Fried Oyster Sandwich with the Cucumber Salad. The oysters were crispy, salty and spicy on the outside and soft and earthy on the inside. Avocado added a nice flavor to the sandwich. The toasted bread was soft and slightly sweet. The Cucumber salad was pickled and refreshing. Overall the meal was delicious. Highly recommend!
Oh my gosh food
Leons has amazing food. My sister had the grilled oysters and I had the cold shrimp roll with the cucumber salad. It was all delicious. If I visit Charleston again it will be the first place to stop for food.
We had another fabulous lunch at Leon's! We started off
We had another fabulous lunch at Leon's! We started off with hushpuppies that are served with honey butter (YUM!), frozen G&T's and Elder75's. Raw oysters & the char grilled oysters are a MUST order at Leon's. The char grilled oysters are super flavorful - butter, lemon, parm & garlic! We shared the big chicken platter for the table - the fried chicken is worth the hype here. The crispy shrimp roll was out of this world!!! I was a huge fan of the coleslaw too. Great service & fun ambiance as always!
Grill fish was really good.
Nice place for patio weather, will definitely return when the am back in Charleston
I saw Leon's pop up on several recommended sites for food
I saw Leon's pop up on several recommended sites for food in Charleston and I see why!! This has by far been the best food spot we're come across all trip! I'm not even a fan of oysters, and yet I would have 100 more of these char grilled ones. The wait wasn't long before we had a spot outside (pet friendly), even if it was longer, I'd wait! The service was also spectacular (shoutout Sean). He wasn't pushy with us and gave the best recommendations.
Great ambiance and food.
BEWARE, no coffee :(( Every other aspect is great, but very disappointed for a lunch place that is open at 11:00 to not even have a cup of coffee as an option.
Leon's was recommended to us by several people.
We had to Uber from our downtown hotel location and it was so worth it! It's an old gas station and has an outdoor indoor vibe that is just plain old fun. The food was amazing, I had the fried oyster roll and they have plenty of fried chicken options and great drink specials. Our one knock is that the drink specials and beer pours are very small, maybe like 6 ounces. The best is to get a picture of PBR for dinner. That said, we love the atmosphere and the service and would highly recommend Leon's.
Quirky place -- very popular, great food, friendly service
Quirky place -- very popular, great food, friendly service -- and there was quite a buzz. Packed with everyone really enjoying the evening. Highly recommended if you are looking for a fun, tasty meal.
Leon's is always packed so make a reservation.
The food is delicious, servers are good. There's a patio out back and in the front. Parking down the block - but you're not always able to find a spot so plan ahead. Comfy vibe. Can get loud.
Great ambience and service.
Had the Fried chicken and potatoes and they were good. Will check it out again
LOVE Leon's! The food is always top tier and fresh.
Never had a meal that was bad here. Service is always a 10/10. Ambiance is laid back with a nice feel. Love it here.
One of the best spots to take out of town guests.
The fried chicken and the baked oysters are amazing but we also love their salads shockingly. Be sure to come early to grab a table or put your name in and wait
Indulgent lunch
Came for lunch and loved it. sian salad was crunchy and delicious. Fried chicken was juicy and flavorful. Milkshake was indulgent and divine. Highly recommend. Atmosphere was lovely, with several areas for dining. Would have liked eating outside in the back, had we known it was an option beforehand.
Fab Oysters-- raw or grilled-- and fantastic chicken!
Fantastic Vibe-- very local-- great service-- delicious chicken--just eat it. Great oysters too. Loved the small bites plate of clams on bib lettuce with some great sauce. Everyone loved their food. Black eye pea salad, Potatoes au gratin; Loved loved it. Jacob was a great server! GO!!!
Lively environment with good food
Our first night in Charleston and the Uber driver told us about Leon's . The place was very busy with a fun vibe. A little confusing as we put our name in to wait for a table and then were directed to wait in line at the bar for a drink. Not many bar tenders but they were very nice and tried to accommodate everyone. Enjoyed the Leon's fish fry
Great spot for lunch
This was a great place to have lunch, the staff was nice and professional and the food was very good. We tried the grilled oysters, cucumber salad, hushpuppies and shrimp. It was all very good and I would recommend these items! Nice that some of the foods aren’t fried. The restaurant is a little off the city center but was well worth the walk. It isn’t far from the visitors center so don’t pass it up. It is an old auto body shop so don’t look for it to be very fancy.
Food must be OK… cause service is meh
Terrible service… average staff. Overpriced cocktails with small pours. Nice ambiance and I am sure the food might be OK. Don’t come in expecting to have a drink at the bar … waited 20 mins. No where to stand and enjoy.
Charleston's perfect lunch stop
I can see why the wait is 30+ on a Sat - great service great food and friendly staff. All the ingredients of a must-visit in Charleston. When I began my Navy career in Charleston in 1982, this area was to be avoided - not now. I't where everyone wants to be.
Charleston favorite!
Always delicious and fun. We rented out the back space for a Lowcountry boil and it could not have been better. Great service, delicious food, fantastic atmosphere. Leon’s is one of my favorites and I go every time I’m in town. Highly recommend. Try the frozen gin & tonics too!
Not that great...again.
I have not had good luck at Leon's. The food was just OK, not great. The service was NOT a strong suit at Leon's. We went for an early lunch to avoid the crowds. The service seemed indifferent...as if they weren't ready for us. Kind of annoyingly hip...as if we weren't cool enough to eat there. It was weird...its like they ignored us...despite no one else being there. Not worth all the hype.
Love Leons
Excellent food as always - kitchen was slammed after the holidays, but the hosts and wait staff treated us very well and couldn't have been more apologetic about the wait that we had (we had a large party of 11). Always recommend Leon's and the way that they went out of the way to make up for the wait made us love Leons ever more and will make sure to tell everyone visiting Charleston to put it on their itenerary.
Fun, friendly, great food and atmosphere
Sit outside, and get the catfish fry-up!!!! Everyone loved their meals, but my catfish was subjectively the best. Drinks were just right, sides delicious, and the service was perfect blend of both friendly AND efficient.

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

I have a similar question, it seems like when money is refunded it doesnt go immediately what is the process of this since its essentially a debit card and not a credit card
