Leeward Portland Reviews from The Last Year
Having now been to Leeward another 4-5 times since my last
Having now been to Leeward another 4-5 times since my last review I thought an update was in order. At this point I've had roughly 30-35 different dishes and can say that Jake and his crew have really hit their stride. Though there were a couple of missteps early on, I haven't had a single dish since that wasn't very good indeed, and quite a few that were stellar. This is a kitchen that's turning out amazing dishes across the board and has nailed pacing. I almost always sit at the Chef's Counter near the pass and can tell you from experience that his is an amazingly well run kitchen with folks how know what they are doing, are intently focused on the task at hand, and most important drama free. If you watch, every now and then Jake will make a helpful comment on a plate that isn't quite up to snuff. There is no yelling, no scowles, and no ego. This is ow a great kitchen should run. Leeward and Jake we're Beard Finalists for a reason. Book a table and see for yourself.

The staff was awesome and the vibes were cool, but for the pricepoint this place was good not great. My girlfriend, who loves this type of food said it was like a 7 or an 8 and I agree. Cocktails and wine list were decent, but again, a tad pricy for what you get. Glad I went, but in a city like Portland no real need to make Leeward a regular thing.
Everyone hyped up this place to me to come see on my visit
Everyone hyped up this place to me to come see on my visit to Portland. It was easy to get a seat for one person. Very chill ambience, more like a cafe than a restaurant feeling. The bread was delicious with the oil, unfortunately they charge a whole extra dish to get balsamic vinegar. I tried one of the mocktails, it wasn't terrible nor great. It did taste too close to alcohol for my liking, but didn't want to spend $8 on a Shirley Temple. I got the gnudi, which was delicious and different. Even though it was a small portion it was quite filling because there was a lot of dough texture. A bit pricey for the size, but overall I recommend the restaurant. The staff were kind and looks like a great date spot.
Leeward is great
Leeward is a great restaurant for Italian cuisine. The food is delicious. The cocktails are tasty. Fantastic place to dine.

Evidently this is currently one of the "it" restaurants in Portland. We got there on a Saturday before the doors opened at 5 PM, and were first in line. Within minutes, there was a long line, but as we were first, we not only got in but lucked out by sitting at the Chef's counter, something that we typically enjoy. Note about chefs tables; usually at other places there is some interaction and you get a pretty good view of the chefs "doing their thing", sometimes even a little "here ya go" food tidbit from the kitchen. Not here. No interaction or acknowledgment at all, and the seating is a tad low and when they have the table lids open in the prep area, you have no view. This is not a complaint or a detriment, but perhaps they should not refer to those seats as chef seating. Oh well. Back to the matters at hand. Our waitress was excellent. She was warm and smiling and conversational without it being forced, we bantered often, and she knew when to check in and when to leave us be. Kudos! Once we knew what we were going to get for dinner, she had a good working knowledge of an excellent wine list and helped us choose a delightful red without breaking the bank. The butter lettuce salad was exceptional, a highlight. More important than it being visually stunning, it was an ingenious design, so that every bite carried the taste of all the ingredients. Well done! We also ordered the fingerling potatoes cooked in schmaltz. It was good, but perhaps it would have been better than good if they had stayed in the pan a bit longer. A crispier crisp to them would have given them a more varied texture. Knowing that we had rigatoni bolognese coming, I ordered us some focaccia to sop up the extra gravy at the end. While the presentation was lovely, there was nothing exceptional about the focaccia itself, though it admirably served the purpose for which it was intended. It was delivered with a small bowl of olive oil for dipping, but frankly, it was not a terrific olive oil, once again affirming that it fails as a side, but succeeds as a gravy picker upper. The bolognese was quite good. Perhaps if it had been plated so that more of the sauce ended up inside the rigatoni hollows, it would have succeeded more, or perhaps a different shaped curly pasta would have captured a bit more of that gravy with each bite, but I want to emphasize that this was very good dish, slightly short of excellent. The meal was quite rich. We got a lemon sorbet to cleanse the palate at the end. The coldness was refreshing, but perhaps a bit sweet to truly cleanse the palate. One other note about ambiance; the music was upbeat and beat driven. I suppose they use this type of music to increase the table turn overs subtly, but I admit I personally find it to be a glaring issue. It simply did not match the ambiance, price points, and what a top dinner place should be playing. Far too busy a sound. But this should absolutely not be a make or break when deciding whether to come here or not. It might have more to do with personal taste. Not quite five star, but a very solid four star. We would definitely come back to try other dishes, and we were told that dishes do change every few months or so. Well done, overall.
Great restaurant.
Good food and drink. Will be back. Service with a smile Portland is the best
An impulsive wonderful experience!
On our way to first night galleries we went on a whim as walk ins hoping to get a spot at the bar. There was a table we could have if we were out in an hour and a half ! Well, the service was friendly ,informed and excellent. The food was wonderful and everyone has to try their butter lettuce salad with lemon cream vinaigrette. It was so good I asked if the chef would consider sharing the recipe if I helped with the dishes. Well I didn’t have to and he did.
Great ambience, service, and food.
We had a great meal here. The ravioli was to die for and the lemon spaghetti was equally as good. The bread as a starter was also extremely good. As the title suggests, the ambience was fantastic as well. I couldn’t give it a 5 though because of the portions and the fee for a refill on the tiniest soda ever. A full price charge for a second soda. Come on. And it was a third of the size of a typical restaurant. The only other notable was the portion size. If we hadn’t had an early reservation we would have left hungry. This is definitely a high end restaurant and the prices reflect that. We would eat here again, but knowing is half the battle….
Great food
Really great food. Enjoyed the rigatoni, tagliatelle, spaghettini, squash blossoms, snap peas and tuna crudo. The cocktails were delightful as well.
Lovely food but small portions- warm but perfunctory service.
Overall Leeward is a solid night out. But there were a few things that kept it from being exceptional. The pasta was delicious and lovingly prepared but felt less than generous, even not enough for one person. If the portion was slightly bigger I think diners would be more satisfied rather than have to eat super slow to make it last. Also, the wait staff was kind but perfunctory. Felt like they needed to turn the table and get us out within the two hour time limit. At one point our waitress said “ you better order dessert now because this is your chance.” Sometimes in America, eating at a restaurant feels transactional and lacks any old world charm in which you feel truly welcomed. This was one of those nights.
Birthday delights, relaxing underneath these dim lights.
The focaccia gotcha, delicious with that oil. Maybe warm it up a little. Beginning to eat, recalling that the music had a strange beat. Server wanted to rush but eventually she went hush. Paid the toll then took the stroll.
We live locally and had high expectations based on the hype
We live locally and had high expectations based on the hype of Leeward being one of the best in Portland. Keep in mind they pretty much seem booked up 2 weeks for any reservations if you want to choose your ideal day and time. Walk-ins can be taken on first come first serve for the bar seating and we popped in and were thankful to the nice hostess who managed to get us a table for 2! Spot is open, high ceilings, nice low lights with candles, average level noise. Drinks: their cocktails are definitely interesting- my wife loved hers, which she said was refreshing and would order again. I ended up skipping the cocktail and had some nice local craft beer options instead. We ordered 2 starters- one with roasted Brussels sprouts with shoestring potatoes (extremely light shaved potato on top like grated cheese-not much potato flavor) which were cooked well and this dish had a rich cheese sauce underneath which didn't add much to the dish-it was ok. The second starter was AMAZING-perfectly cooked chanterelle mushrooms with a balsamic glaze and sheep's milk cheese on fresh sourdough crostini slices, delicious (I don't even love mushrooms so that says a lot!). For our entrees I had bucatini pasta with cheese sauce- it had strong high quality cheese flavors. Pasta was well cooked, but not particularly homemade tasting. Overall my dish was very salty (like salty enough I might feel sick later if I eat the entire dish even though it was on smaller size). I mentioned it to the server and she apologetically sent it back and the second round was better. My wife had a wild mushroom pasta that tasted like fresh pasta, nice tomato based sauce. Both of us agreed our entrees were pretty good, but had hoped for more complexity and better balanced flavors at this price point. Dessert had a cinnamon cocoa gelato which tasted a bit grainy in texture, mostly of cacao and could barely discern the cinnamon, it was ok. Our server was friendly, answered questions about the menu, did not rush us and was attentive, 5/5 stars. All in all we can see ourselves coming back to Leeward to give it another try, especially in another season like summer with different food options on the menu, but we both agreed food wise the app was good but the food didn't stand out from other restaurants in Portland given the buzz.
Not Great.
Canceled my reservation at another restaurant when I was referred to Leeward. Disappointed upon entering as my wife wanted to turn around and walk out. She thought we were in the wrong place and commented it looked like a cafeteria. Not very warm or inviting. Focaccia was good, a little burnt on the top. Balsamic add on was just okay. Carpaccio was good but not great. Kind of lacking compared to others but a fair portion for a reasonable price. We ordered two pasta dishes and I had the bolognese. Sadly a 5/10. Just lacked flavor and tasted like slightly burnt ground beef (think American Chop Suey...). I finished it but was disappointed. Rigatoni was fresh and cooked well. My wife also had a pasta dish with spinach and mushrooms and a few other items. Unremarkable as there were only two leaves of spinach and could not see/taste the other ingredients. Nice wine selection! We will not return. Two servers/food runners wreaked of weed (not our waitress who was vey nice). The front door had political statements printed out and taped in the window, just tacky. It's Christmas and Hanukkah and there are wars in Israel and Ukraine - ALL lives matter.
I'd been hearing good things about Leeward for quite awhile
I'd been hearing good things about Leeward for quite awhile now and am so glad it lived up to all those positive reviews. Fairly simple unassuming decor, large bar area, nicely spaced tables, and some good soundproofing make Leeward a comfortable spot to dine. Their menu isn't particularly large but definitely has enough choices and variety to make most people happy. We started the night with some interesting cocktails and the chicken liver appetizer; served spread on crusty sourdough bread with some crispy bacon and friseé and a soft cooked farm egg on top, it was outstanding. The warm, house made focaccia bread was also a hit, served with some nice olive oil on the side. For entrees, the bucatini lobster fra diavolo and the rigatoni ragú bolognese were both fabulous. Our bartender was very helpful pairing the food with wine, recommending a chilled red for the Bucatini and a heavier red for the ragú. Even though we were full we had to try the apple pie gelato and wow was that awesome! I will definitely be returning to try some of the other amazing looking dishes that we saw coming out of the kitchen. Highly recommend!!
We had an unbelievable experience at the chefs counter!
We had an unbelievable experience at the chefs counter! It's hard to decide what to order when everything coming out looks incredible. The space was big and bright, will be going back and trying a table seat too!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
