Le Monchu Chamonix-Mont-Blanc Reviews from The Last Year
Always at the top
Yet another positive experience in this splendid historic venue in Chamonix! Super recommended for any occasion!
Fabulous meal, great atmosphere
We visited Le Monchu for the last night of our holiday. Its a traditional & cosy restaurant with great service. The Fondue was delicious, steak cooked perfectly, Caesar salad was huge & beef stew fabulous. Will definitely be back next time we visit Chamonix.
Wood-fired raclette
The setting is typical of the Savoyard chalet style The service is fast and very friendly On the other hand, it is better to book in advance
Excellent in every way
Excellent in every way: cuisine, welcome, atmosphere, service (Lucie, Axel and Jérôme). Menu of the day: salad of lamb's lettuce with shrimp, avocado and guacamole as a starter then sea bass fillet and tomato gnocchi. Dessert: mascarpone cream and meringue😋😋😋
Ok but nothing special
No lasting impression, restaurant that delivers ok food but no real finesse and slightly stressed staff, there are many places in the village and I would try the others before going back. The design of the restaurant is nice.
Tourist trap!
It became our last stop on vacation before hitting the road again: nice decor, affordable prices, typical meal... Until our last visit: arrogant staff, a 50kg dog as a table neighbor, extremely noisy customers, little ones who go about their lives in the aisles, all crammed into the same room while the rest of the restaurant is rather quiet. .. and questionable method: the waitress suggested wine by the glass with our fondue. nice attention. This was without taking into account that the glass in question cost us 24 euros. It would have been delicate of him to tell us that the glass of wine in question cost more than our dish. Result, an inflated bill of 48 euros for two unfortunate glasses of wine. Certainly the price was indicated... but it is usually indicated at the price of the bottle. It looks more like a well-crafted scam.
Average food
This restaurant was always fully booked, with often a queue outside so we were expecting big things. The atmosphere was great, cosy and good and friendly service. The food was ok. Not bad but nothing special, considering the price. The wine menu was very expensive. However we did have a good time, and the friendly service made up for average food. House digestif was worth ordering though.
Very cool place with chalet vibe and interesting table-side menu options
Really cool restaurant in the heart of Chamonix with a very cool chalet vibe. The menu was quite extensive with one of the most popular items being the raclette that you can have melted right on your table. Instead, my teen boys chose being able to cook their own meats at the table on a mini barbecue, but this seemed more fun than it actually was as the meat would often stick to the grill and the pressure to pull it off ran the risk of flipping it across the table and onto the floor. And it was too time consuming - there wasn't enough time to cook it all by the time we left. As for the other meals there were mixed reviews. My mushroom risotto was very bland but the escargot and charcuterie plate were very good. Desserts were fantastic - especially the brioche French toast! I would give the food a 4 overall but I give the place a 5. It is a very cool place I would recommend just for the experience. We couldn't even get a reservation for dinner it is so popular so we went for lunch.
Dishes with good flavors, but average service and quantities
Arriving at this restaurant at 7 p.m., the welcome was quite cold from the waitress. We are seated and almost “thrown” the cards on the table. On 2 chosen dishes, - 1: the ribs with a layer of meat of only a few millimeters, not much to eat, and above all advertised with fries which were in fact more potatoes cut into very large quarters, what a shame my wife nevertheless pointed out that she didn't like potatoes and that she wanted fries so as not to have big potatoes. -2nd course: tartiflette arrived without any bacon (without exaggerating any bacon, not even one), only potatoes, cream and cheese. This is the first time in my life that I called the waitress back for a dish. The waitress replied “it was made at the caterer basically it must have been the last ladle”. The tartiflette was, however, quickly re-served with plenty of bacon and was excellent. Last remark all the same on the House aperitif which is announced at the entrance on the bar at 6 euros on a hanging slate type star, and on the other side of this same slate at 6.50 € when I make the remark when paying to the waiter who is next to him he said to me generally "it's nothing, it's just decoration". So having had a homemade aperitif it was 6 euros or 6.50 € well obviously we paid 6.50€. Medium as an answer…. to summarize dishes with good flavors, but service and quantity not great.
Stay away
Went for dinner with my girlfriend. Looks awesome from the outside and decor is super cool. However, the service is horrible, menu is confusing and the food was way below average. We ordered two steaks cooked medium and they were blue/red in the middle and as I’m writing this, 20 minutes after our food was delivered, we still haven’t had anyone check in. Super disappointed.
Tucked into Chamonix, this spot nails the
Tucked into Chamonix, this spot nails the rustic-meets-modern vibe. Dining feels like a low-key mountain retreat, but with staff who won't give you side-eye. They speak English, so ordering is straightforward. The menu's bilingual, because who needs language barriers? Food-wise, it's a cool blend of classic French and alpine flair - like culinary fusion without the pretentious vibes. Fresh ingredients are the unsung heroes here - they're so fresh, they practically have a morning dew glow.
Quintessential alps restaurant with grilled meats, raclette
Quintessential alps restaurant with grilled meats, raclette and fondue. Did the raclette, know that it's for 2 ppl minimum and it's a meal. You've got to experience the melty cheese goodness of raclette.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
