I found this restaurant while browsing Michelin guide.
Bistro du Maquis doesn't have a Michelin star but has bib gourmand status. I made a reservation the day before for Saturday night. The restaurant has a homey, down to earth feel. They have an a la carte menu but they also offer a set menu with two or three courses for a fixed price, which is about 40 euros for three courses. For appetizers, we had foie gras and melon gazpacho. Both were excellent, but I would definitely recommend the melon gazpacho if you want something lighter. I'd never had melon gazpacho before and have since added it to my kitchen repertoire as a great no-cook summer recipe. For mains, my husband got the duck and I got the pork tenderloin. We don't often eat duck or pork tenderloin, and despite this, we enjoyed these so much. Both were very flavorsome. My pork was especially tender. My husband's duck was complemented really well with the apricot that it was served alongside. For desserts, we had the creme brulee and the peach salad. Both were excellent as everything had been, but the peach salad was a refreshing and lighter way to end the meal as I was so full from the first two courses. The service was really kind and prompt. This was a great pick from the Michelin guide and I would definitely recommend it as an excellent restaurant to try, even if you're not staying in the immediate area.
Be the first to ReplySuch a gem! The chef is highly skilled.
French cuisine at its best and at a reasonable price. High value. The restaurant is owned by the head chef and his wife, who is also the only waiter. Being only one waiter, the service can be somewhat slow, but it absolutely worth the wait (and makes it possible to keep the reasonable pricing). Not the biggest place, so you might want to book a table in advance but you might be lucky walking in. Mainly French locals, but the staff does speak some English. A favorite and a gem!

With only 41 seats, you wonder how they can make it, but after you have dined there, you will understand why people love it. We happened upon BdM due to an acquaintance who wrote about it. The chef has credentials like you won't believe. We had a luncheon on a cloudy day. Not many people, but we were early Paris time at 12:15.Gracious wife of owner came to seat us (we had reserved through lafourchette), so we were led to one of their cozy tables. Here was our meal:Entrees: White asparagus with sauce mousseline. Sounds standard, but what was delivered was a work of art, and perfect, dotted with some smoked duck breast, and baby greens and a couple of pansy flowers to make it interesting. Perfect white asparagus.. Other entree was tuna morsels marinated in a Yuzu sauce a portion of cous-cous. Loved them both.Plat principals were two: Rognons de veau and dorade. The rognons were like none I have ever had, instead of several small kidneys, it was a good size entire kidney with many lobes. Perfectly pinkish in each one in a delicious mustard sauce and placed on a delicate poached cabbage bed.The dorade was on a bed of a creme mushroom sauce with a side of interesting grains. Then we found out the background of Chef Le Letty. Formerly at Tour d'Argent, famous for it's pressed duck. Chef Letty makes it here to at BdM, 4 days advanced notice, 25Euro supplement. Going for it this weekend!Very affordable prix fix luncheons and excellent affordable wine listGO GO!.

This restaurant is in the 18eme, it is in the Montmartre area of Paris. The Chef has worked at some of the best Michelin restaurants in Paris such as La Tour D'Argent. Lucky us, he opened up a more affordable restaurant with his wife. The food at this restaurant that is "SIMPLE but SOLID" and more importantly tasty. The Chef's pedigree shows. My favorite dish was the entrée of the "Cassolette d'escargots", which I would go back for in a nano-second. My least favorite was the gesiérs salad, only because I thought the gesiérs were over-cooked, but I can overlook that considering everything else was either very good or just plain excellent. Their "Plat-du-jour" (daily specials) is extremely reasonably priced, with 2-courses for 16€ or all 3-courses for 20€. Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY, I'd come back in a heart beat.

When I moved to Paris, I finally got to go to Le Maquis to have lunch with some friends of friends in Chicago. Le Maquis is actually run by other friends of said friends so we got the star treatment. Ludo was serving. I had the greatest steak I'd had in a long time with the most amazing herbed butter and potatoes. Yum! And then he recommended the chocolate volcano cake thing with Grand Marnier so of course I couldn't resist. It was formidable!!! This place seems like a little hole in the wall, but they certainly know what they're doing! Very very charming French restaurant.
