I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years now and had always wanted to try this place... I dreamed it would be my goto. I could not have been more disappointed. We had made reservations, arrived on time, and had a great seat. To get to it, the food was just not good. Each course looked almost great but was tough to cut, and poorly prepared. The presentation was generally really nice, tho. Second, we decided to do the wine pairing. But, to our surprise, we were served the course wines in the same glass! I asked about new glasses and he sort of laughed and said " we don't have that many glasses" What? The dessert was not edible. Finally, the wait staff basically whispered. I asked every single time to speak a little louder as we couldn't hear over the super loud music. Overall, I am just sad that this place was such a disappointment. I have no idea how they could have been in M21.

I think we were just unlucky with this fine little restaurant. The waiter tells us right of the bat that they are offering a simplified version of their menu during the summer months. Hmmmm...we should have walked back across the street to "La Sardine" where we had a lovely dinner the night before. Food was bland, lacked preparation. Dishes anyone can put together with a little stove and a sautée pan. Very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyI had the tasting menu.
Aside from a perfect oyster and fine desserts, the kitchen seems to have adopted a philosophy of allowing ingredients to speak for themselves. Those ingredients are excellent and each is beautifully prepared, but the result is plate after plate of items that are juxtaposed, rather than assembled to create a successful dish. It's almost as if the chef is insisting on the individual quality of each ingredient-- cauliflower or girolles or eggplant or cod or whatever. The result is an unsatisfying procession of small tastes as if someone with little food sense was sampling a beautiful smorgasbord. Intriguing to a point. The staff could not have been more helpful. The room is very simple, almost severe, maybe hinting at the uncompromising output from the kitchen.

This was overall a very disappointing dinner for what was supposed to be a special occasion. On first glance, the restaurant looks nice and I was excited for a lovely set menu dinner. From the beginning of our dinner however, service was unfriendly and not overly welcoming. Our wine order was taken abruptly and it was noted that I don't eat meat. The courses started coming, and they were ok. They did accommodate for me not eating fish or meat, which is a plus. One course that came had a yellow sauce on the side of the plate that I think was only supposed to be decorative because it was so bitter and salty I couldn't even eat it. I was surprised something like this would ever leave a kitchen. The biggest disappointment of the night was during my main course when I bit down on a piece of tin foil (!!!) that was hiding in the middle of my food. This wasn't a small piece either. I mentioned to the waiter who said he would tell the kitchen (no apology, no smile, nothing). At this point I'd expect at minimum an apology, although at a restaurant of this price I'd expect something more. They just didn't seem to care, which is a shame. We left with a substantially lighter wallet, and feeling really disappointed. I give two stars instead of one because there were a couple of nice courses. There are so many well-priced, beautiful restaurants in Paris that offer a market-driven prix fixe and amazing service, which made me sad that we spent our evening here.

A great concept, reservations were very easy to make and both lunch and dinner prices are more than fair. Their staff understands English (even though the menus are in French). Their experimental dishes are very pleasing to the palette and the first bite of several dishes were very interesting from a texture/flavor combination angle. We went there for both a weekday lunch and dinner during our trip and would have gone more times if we had the time.
Be the first to ReplyThe entire dining experience at Le Galopin was incredible.
The 7-course prix fixe menu had some amazing flavor profiles. My favorites: The gazpacho with salmon roe at the bottom. It was such a pleasant surprise and added the perfect amount of saltiness. The veal sweetbreads with a corn and cherry relish. I have never had corn and cherries together and it was nothing short of amazing, a salty, sweet and tart combination. Would highly recommend this venue to anyone in Paris, it's a meal you will remember for years to come.

Although it's an old review, I 100% concur with everything Meghna P. said. I also went for the 7 course meal and found the food was very good, but just shy of being excellent. The dessert was PERFECTION. Extremely friendly staff and great service, but still the best meal I had during my rather short stay in Paris.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing.
Sweet and very small, unpretentious, and beautiful interior that looks out onto place Sainte Marthe. The starter plates are very small, true amuse bouches. At first we were afraid we would go home hungry, but it turned out to just be an incredibly well thought out menu that doesn't leave you wanting for anything. Such impressive combinations. A total experience. It couldn't have been better. To top it off, the service was great! It was my boyfriend's birthday and we got a window seat and watched kids play ball in the square while their families ate at the restaurants. And they were totally accommodating when they heard that I was a vegetarian (I hadn't expected them to change the menu and was going to eat whatever I could, but they created new dishes). Just go! It's totally worth it.
Be the first to ReplyA very cozy place with friendly and English speaking stuff.
The food was delicious. We had roasted lamb which I can only recommend. The wine was rather average though.
