Classic
Classic French brasserie. Great service, very good food, nice wine list. Had a steak tartare and kidneys, both excellent. Everybody at the table cleaned their plates. Sincerely recommended.
Be the first to ReplyA haven of unsurpassed French food and ambience
One of my delights each time when visiting London is to dine in this classic French brasserie being completely insulated from the bustle and pressures of the Capital. Excellently cooked food complemented by an extensive wine list. An unpretentious and welcoming ambience with attentive and knowledgeable serving staff. It is difficult not to eulogise further such is the effect that this establishment has affected me!!

Very disappointing experience. Overcooked lobster and Dover sole. . Mediocre table service. Overpriced. Over-rated.

Amazing food and service! We hired the private room upstairs for a business event. Service was professional yet personal and the food was delicious.

We have a work colleaguesโs reunion here each year. This time at end of November. Itโs a really good traditional French restaurant. At lunch they have a set menu which we usually follow with reasonable choices. The wine list is very good and prices are not too ferocious by London standards. It is really well managed; the staff are knowledgeable, the pace of service is perfect, they do not try to top up your wine all the time. The ambiance is what youโd expect from a Parisian restaurant. I really like it and am going to start using it more often when meeting other friends in London.

Authentic French cuisine. Fast service, but the overall service can sometimes be a little short-tempered. The dishes contain good products, without a lot of frills.
Be the first to ReplyNeighborhood gem
You can tell how good a restaurant is when you arrive and feel that most of the guests are local or returning customers. This is the first impression you get when you arrive here. The menu is classic French cuisine served in a traditional style with emphasis on quality ingredients and efficient service. The real plus is in the great selection of top appellation Bordeaux wines in half-bottles. This is one of the very rare and few restaurants that have this option. Combine this with a casual ambience and you are sure to enjoy a wonderful meal with your special someone or friends. If you have not yet discovered this neighborhood gem you have missed a great find. Enjoy and thank me for sharing my secret favorite restaurant in London. Bon Appetite

Excellently prepared french bistro classics. Attentive and charming service. Good wine list, especially strong selections of half-bottles. An enjoyable experience.
Be the first to ReplyVery good and pleasant French restaurant
Greatly enjoyed dinner , The steak tartare was excellent as were the Dublin Bay prawns. The grouse off the bone is highly recommended as are the veal kidneys. The service was good and efficient but note the service charge is ยฃ15%

Brilliant. From scallops to lamb to veal to fish. Fabulous freshly cooked fare and Owner Didier is ever present and a joy to chat to. Staff are superb, so is the food

A very nice traditional French style restaurant, staff were very friendly and good service. I ordered smoked salmon which was absolutely delicious, I nearly asked for a second plate, we both had beef fillet steaks, cooked absolutely perfect and delicious served simply with green beans and fries, you need no more! Oh except for a very nice Chateauneuf de Pape. I ordered Rum baba for dessert, wow unbelievable and my wife thoroughly enjoyed Crepes Suzette with an extra drop of Grand Marnier.

We were a family group of six, booking for early evening at short notice, and we were made very welcome and enjoyed a lovely meal. The service was attentive without being intrusive, the atmosphere was cosy and relaxing, and the food and wine was tip top. Toilets scrupulously clean. It was a Saturday night and the tables were filling up fast as we prepared to leave, but at no point were we made to feel rushed. A really special venue.
Be the first to ReplyThe perfect brasserie lunch
A gorgeous Chelsea brasserie with lovely food, impeccable service and a fantastic (and fairly-priced) wine list, with loads of half-bottle options. Yes, itโs a bit pricey, but thereโs always a lunchtime 2-course menu for ยฃ33, with a good choice of dishes.

Outstanding in every way . Superb menu with superb and kind and attentive service . Lovely atmosphere and great location . Didier Garnier is the ultimate host and after 12 visits still our favourite restaurant in town !!
Be the first to ReplyBest French brasserie this side of the Canal
Unpretentious, well executed (both food & service), extremely well priced wine list with some great gems. A proper classic French restaurant serving delicious food. No, not the "finest" restaurant in town, but if you want proper great food & drinks without breaking the bank, it doesn't get much better than Le Colombier.

This was my first visit here with a friend who has been here many times, like his father before him.
It is a bit of a one-off in today's London and it does feel like you have been transported to a good restaurant in provincial France some years ago. But that all makes it a much more interesting experience than going to somewhere the waiter addresses everyone as "guys" irrespective of age or gender (here it is most definitely "monsieur" and "madame").
It is obviously a real favourite with local elderly Chelsea residents and it was pretty full at 1pm in the middle of the week.
We both had the set lunch - two courses with coffee for ยฃ30. Apparently it used to be ยฃ22 but all restaurants have had to raise their prices with brexit and covid.
There is a choice of three starters (endive and roquefort salad, duck pate or shellfish bisque) and three main courses (hake with roast beetroot, breast of guineafowl with tarragon sauce or fillet of beef with sauce poivrade). We had the pate (v good), beef (v good) and guineafowl (good, like what you would get in a hotel at a banquet)). We decided to finish off with crepes suzette which sadly can no longer be flamed at the table (health and safety apparently). Despite the lack of drama they tasted delicious. The coffee was excellent too.
The only weak point was the wine. There is a fantastic selection of half bottles and some magnums too but we chose a poor St Joseph from a negociant we didn't know at a high price - perhaps we should have spent a few pounds more for a name we recognised.
The bill came to ยฃ120 for two. It's certainly not cheap but who else offers fillet of beef (a good sized piece too) on their set lunch? Service was very good although one waiter did seem a bit aloof.
Would I go back? Certainly.
A real hidden low key gem
One of the best places I have eaten in a long time.
The service is polished but not stuffy.
Walks the line between old school glamour and neighbourhood restaurant perfectly.
The clientele were mature with not an Instagram blogger in sight.
The food is stunning. Simple, high quality, well cooked french cuisine. Also very well priced.
The wine list is the real kicker at that place. Possibly the best value wine list in London, the mark up is very reasonable with some real steals. You wonโt find a better burgundy in a London restaurant. They also have an amazing selection of 1/2 bottles, which is something you donโt see many places.
I see a few poor reviews previously, and can empathise with the sentiment, as I have walked out of places feeling like Iโve been completely done over (The river cafe is one that still haunts me, overpriced pasta in an 80s sports hall)
However 3no starters, 3no mains (big ticket dishes), 1no bottle of white burgundy and 1no bottle of red burgundy, sparkly water, coffee and 1no dessert for around 100 a head is not unreasonable.
Lovely venue spoiled by average and pedestrian food
Lunch at Le Colombier after it was recommended by friends who are self confessed 'foodies'.
However, this is yet another restaurant which has fallen into the trap of making sure you know that the food it serves for its reasonably priced lunch menu is done to a budget with little or no imagination.
Instead of using it as an opportunity to enable you to sample exceptional cooking and so want to return to sample more, it makes it plain you are being given something that, quite frankly, you could have cooked at home.
Maybe the thinking is, that by making the set menu boring, you will choose instead to go A La Carte - wrong!
Other restaurants recognise that many of us visit their establishments to sample food we would NOT cook at home - we do not eat out to go to a canteen, but to have something different prepared by a chef.
Please see The Drumming Snipe for somewhere offering an extremely good value lunch menu with genuinely adventurous food.
We will not be in a hurry to return.
Average food and arrogant service
I have never bothered writing a negative review, but we just had the most frustrating and disappointing experience in 20y in London. Colombier staff is simply arrogant and rude and the food is simply average. If you want to spend >90ยฃ pp and be treated as a beggar feel free to enjoy. No options for coeliac - the waitress simply refused to offer alternatives. My husband asked for fries instead of the mash - he was told he could only have fries in addition to the mash. The roast chicken was extra dry, and the waitress did not even apologise ! I am french, and I can say that a true french restaurant does not treat customer like that. This restaurant is run by dinosaurs. There are so many great options in London, I am surprised this restaurant survives. We will never go there again.
Be the first to ReplyReliable and obviously much enjoyed by regulars
We have been here before a few times but not recently and it is unchanged, not that it needed changing. Reliability is usually an asset.
It has a semi-outdoor area with an extension with plastic walls and is very tastefully done, indoors is nice and comfortable.
In terms of food, it is French, leaning toward seafood but offers a very good range of foods. I started off a bit unadventurous with smoked salmon, which was good. For a main the king prawns in tomato and garlic sauce took my fancy but I checked the prawns were peeled before I ordered, which they were. I have had dishes where the fingers just get so messy it really isn't worth it. This was an excellent dish and came with some lovely rice. For my dessert I had the excellent mandarin sorbet.
The other 3 around the table all reported good melas. This place has a good ambience and good service and we all certainly left having felt we had a good and nice dinner.
Plays strongly to an established client base,
Very much a feeling of eating in a long established local venue. The cooking is good as is the service but be prepared for some fairly aggresive pricing on a number of items

Spoiled by friends we did enjoy this out-of-the-way restaurant. A very friendly welcome awaited us then we were all shown to a table perfectly placed at the side of the room.
We were served a bottle of excellent house champagne whilst looking at the menu, which offered some great choices. We settled on veal kidneys (not as soft as we remember from France) and a perfect half lobster, served with all the instruments of torture. Our friends chose wisely too โ fillet steak cooked as ordered and a massive veal chop.
They even treated us to a bottle of Rully to make a great evening of it.
Very knowledgeable and attentive staff.
