La Mer Honolulu Reviews from The Last Year
Another perfect dinner hosted but my friend.
She's never been there and always wanted to try their fine fare. This was my annual go to dinner restaurant with my mother all the years she came to visit me on her annual visit for the Christmas holidays! No vacation would be complete without a dinner at La Mer with Mom! Since then I've been back with the Chaine des Rotisseur and a few times with various guests .., never been disappointed!

The world food tour duo celebrated the birthday of the better half of the duo at La Mer, in the Halekulani Hotel. We were seated at a table by the railing, so we had killer views of Diamond Head and the ocean. The wine menu is vast and very comprehensive; it took me a while to select a wine ... 2017 Corton Bressandes from Domaine Follin-Arbelet. This wine was a "steal" as it sells for almost $300 in a wine store. It had finesse in spades and was full-bodied, yet lightish in tone ... one of the best wines we've tried in 2024. We opted for the Menu du Soir, the four-course tasting menu for $255. It began with an amuse bouche of a green panna cotta made with two vegetables (neither of which I can recall). I thought it tasted like a matcha custard ... An interesting start to the evening. The first course was a Kampachi Tartare, pieces of fish hidden by a Tuile Croustillante, decorated with with uni (sea urchin roe), sitting in a coconut milk / basil oil sauce that was poured by wait staff. This was a visual and taste sensation. The next course was lightly grilled, smoked monchong served with a mint-green puree, pieces of asparagus and sugar snap peas. I love monchong (AKA sickle pomfret) and the vegetables were perfect. The main course was roast duck breast with a Cassis red sauce. There were squares of glazed turnip with spinach inside and dollops of black garlic. The duck was flavorful and tender, perfectly cooked. It's so easy to undercook or overcook duck ... Either will make the skin and the underlying fat layer almost inedible. We opted for two desserts ... The La Cabosse de Chocolat (a cacao pod, Guanaja mousse, Kona Coffee caramel and Kalua jelly) and the Vanilla Souffle from the Degustation menu. My dessert was fine ... three delectable concoctions to savor. The Vanilla Souffle came with three different sauces: Spiced Caramel, Grand Marnier Anglaise and Milk Chocolate sauce. I sampled the souffle; it was sublime. Mignardises followed but we were too full, so it went into the take home bag. The finale was a very light birthday cake ... A perfect end to a perfect evening. La Mer is expensive, a special occasion venue ... It was our first five-star evening of 2024. The food, atmosphere and service are second to none. Highly recommended!
The best fine dining experience we had on the island.
Expensive but worth it for a special occasion. The staff were expertly trained, the food was exquisitely presented and exceptionally tasty. I wish I lived in Hawaii so I could come more often ha ha. It would've been nice to be able to mix and match on the tasting menus, so that two people can share different items because we both got very full by the bar, but we cannot complain when everything was so delicious

My experience was excellent! But I'm curious what is the name of macadamia nuts gifted after dinner? So delicious and unique. I want to buy more but it's a mystery for me where to find it. Thank you
Very wonderful evening, the ambience was stellar, service
Very wonderful evening, the ambience was stellar, service out of this world. Lovely experience.
Absolutely stellar dining experience.
Every dish was unique and delicious, unlike anything I've tasted before. Each dish is creative, beautiful, and crafted with fresh and uncommon ingredients. The service was above and beyond, they treat you like royalty here. The view was spectacular and the breeze from the ocean was perfect. This is the date night spot to splurge on!
We came to eat at this place because i checked the reviews
We came to eat at this place because i checked the reviews and it was good. Service is definitely very slow and not organised. The food was good and fresh and we tried to make best of it. But everything was ruined after we asked for the bill. Our bill was almost 500 USD and we gave international visa card to pay for it (which we have been using without any problems even for higher amounts) But The worst experience was at the end . The bank which this place is using has a limit for fraud protection on their end so we couldn't pay for our bill for the whole amount. We spent about 1.5 hours trying to pay our bill. At the end the Manager had to break our bill in 6 different transactions blaming that it's our bank and card has a limit when our card had no limit. Nice dinner turned into reality the worst experience for us and we left with a stress and a headache. Not even water or dessert was offered for their bad service and fault with the bank. Not the experience you expect when you come to enjoy your dinner with guests and spending so much! Everything was ruined!
Exceptional Experience
We visited La Mer for dinner one night during a recent visit to Honolulu. The food, service, and atmosphere were all absolutely perfect. A big thank you to all the team at La Mer, but particularly to Mark and Jason, for making the evening as special for us as it was.
The Truth About La Mer
You only live once. Our attentive server Kent guided us to an oceanfront table. The bread and butter selections were plentiful and enjoyable. A bottle of Joseph Phelps accompanied the meal. A refreshing Amuse-Bouche began the evening. The chilled Foie Gras was colorfully plated and quite simple to the palate. The Kampachi tartare was a delicate medley of textures and flavors. For the main course, the Monchong was vibrantly presented. Tender and flavorful, the mint-pea puree and Beurre Blanc were a beautiful accompaniment. The elegantly presented lobster with vanilla infusion was a memorable experience. The evening concluded with a unique Chariot de Fromage selection. Service was thoughtful and exemplary.
Seven course dinner.
Every course was beautifully presented and delicious . Service was exceptional with the servers explaining in detail how the food is prepared. A very warm and welcoming restaurant. I can recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.
Excellent food and excellent service.
This is the first time I paid $$$$ for a meal with just 2 people and I thought it was worth it. We had the menu degustation for 2, plus a bottle of wine, the add-on for dessert (soufflé), and the basic wine pairing for the meal. We left very happy and full! This place has been around for a long time - it's one of those upscale local places that has been around forever. We were waited on by a team of waiters and attendants and they were all superb. 20%+ tip on top of $$$$ - yeah, the service was that good to me and I will support great service. Helps to keep great staff on board. The only real caveat I have for those looking to experience La Mer is that there is no a/c. There were trade winds so it was comfortable for us. For that to happen, the windows/floor-to-ceiling panels are left wide open for ventilation, which allows nearby weddings and other events to create a noisy atmosphere (during our time, there was a wedding on a nearby balcony that had their pre-reception cocktail hour outdoors and there was a separate outdoor event with live music down below). If you are looking for a quiet, romantic evening, particularly on a weekend or holiday in the late afternoon/early evening, this might not be your place. But will we be back? Absolutely yes. The atmosphere is very Hawaii like with an elegant touch. Thank you, La Mer, for a wonderful meal and we look forward to dining with you again in the future.
Elegant and special
Elegant restaurant and cuisine. Each course a unique presentation. Multiple servers at each course. For a dpecial occasion.

Glorious food in the ideal Hawaii setting! Truly the location could not be more beautiful. I love how they keep all the doors open to the fresh island breeze. The view out over Waikiki, the ocean and Diamond Head is spectacular. We were lucky enough to come early in the evening when there was live Hawaiian music playing downstairs on the terrace, and we were able to enjoy it throughout our meal, but it was not so loud as to be overwhelming. In fact, the whole restaurant was very quiet, making it easy to talk to the older generation who is a bit hard of hearing. We really had a fantastic meal - the kampachi Krudo starter had a delightful combination of flavors, my husband loved the duck, and my mom and I feasted on the cheese cart! The only hiccup was that the service was a bit slow, but it was a wonderful epic celebration and we are so grateful to have come to.
The best fine dining in Honolulu
One of the best dinners you will have in Honolulu restaurant deserve a Michelin Star. Unfortunately, there is no Michelin in Hawaii. The amus was outstanding the Kampachi appetizer six star soufflé three sauces to die for
Be Alert! Compare the Guest Bill to the Merchant Bill Before Signing!
I was very conflicted as to how many stars to choose. I ended up selecting just 1 so that my review would more likely be read and act as a warning to other guests. I'll begin with this, everything was exquisite right up until the end. My husband and I had enjoyed the evening had a couple glasses of wine so we were very happy and content. When we received the bill, as they always do, they included the bill for the merchant and one for the guest. Often times we don't bother to look at the one for the guest. Luckily this time, my husband glanced at both bills right before he started signing the merchants and realized the amounts were different. The merchant's bill was $42 higher. When we called over our waiter, my husband was barely able to get a few words out about the odd difference when the waiter grabbed the bill said something about he must've hit a wrong button and then brought back one that matched our guest bill. Then the waiter walked us out of the restaurant (we had been there for 3 hours and no one else was walked out); which felt like he was trying to keep us from telling the manager. We did not want to make a scene so I thought I'd post it here as a warning to others. Also, we had booked it on open table and low and behold our reservation now shows it was canceled. We have picture to prove otherwise. All that being said, it felt/feels very sketchy. We have wondered how many other guests has this happened to? Be alert Check your Bill!
This was a private party where we had the 8 course tasting
This was a private party where we had the 8 course tasting menu. Warning: this place is $$$$$$$. The service was terrific, white glove treatment all the way. The 9 of us sat in a private room with ocean view and were treated like royalty. Perfection. I'm posting a photo of the menu for easy reference. A couple of things I want to pick on though. The lobster was quite chewy and the filet a bit tough. However, the wine reduction for the filet was out of this world. A once in a life time experience. Recommend. There's valet parking at the Halekulani hotel. Dress code for men, in particular, is nice slacks, an aloha shirt is fine, closed toed shoes. No sandals, shorts, jeans, polos. But no need for jacket, tie. Dress nicely in an elegant Hawaiian style.
Fabulous overall experience.
I was seated right in front of the sunset - accompanied by excellent service and very tasty food. I opted for the 7 course tasting menu and was so glad I did - every dish had its own spark and my pallet loved it. The dish that stood out the most to me was the Filet of beef with foie gras - I've always enjoyed foie gras, but this was NEXT level. A very special, tasty, unforgettable experience with a view to die for- a must try at least once!
Amazing food...
Amazing burgers, well made, and great balance of all the parts. Really good, fries as well. We were served quickly, The wait staff responded to our needs and, best of all, the food was great!
Being one of two of the state of Hawaii's only Forbes Five
Being one of two of the state of Hawaii's only Forbes Five Star restaurants, I had to make a special trip to try this restaurant. La Mer has an excellent reputation among the islands as an experience worth dressing up for and that's saying a lot for the casual place that Hawai is. It's located in the Halekulani Hotel and is on the second floor with the best view of ocean. I was staying in the hotel so they made a same day reservation for me. I didn't opt in for a cocktail or the supplement wine pairing because I had a lot of food to get through. The service was seamless and adapted to my pace. I love the use of Hawaiian ingredients with French recipes. The dishes were tastefully plated and I found everything to be delicious. This is the place to go to for major celebrations or a romantic night out or when you just want to indulge in solid fine dining/old world luxury service.
I was so excited to try this place since everyone raved
I was so excited to try this place since everyone raved about it that we decided to celebrate our honeymoon here. I am a local but was gravely disappointed. Service was good, but slow.... we had the 7 course, and each course, we had to wait 15 to 20 min btw each, which kind of threw off our appetite. The servers were very nice. However, they were not very attentative, the fact we had to pour our own wine at a fine dining place like this, and multiple times, I might add really disappoints. The scallop was delicious, but the lobbster was way overcooked, I couldn't even cut it with the knife they gave me, and I am not exaggerating. Everything else was mediocre, not worth explaining. Overall, we spent 2G (including 2 wine and 4 course menu plus tax and tip), it was not worth the price, and I had a way better experience at other restaurants than this place. I'm not sure I'll come back again... it pains me to say this... I really was looking forward to it.
This restaurant was incredible! From the delicious food,
This restaurant was incredible! From the delicious food, beautiful plating, and staff and service on point, made our night truly amazing. We were able to book a late reservation the week we got into the island. Only recommendation is to book way earlier in advanced to get a reservation to take sunset pics, oh and brighter pics of your food! We only got the darkness. But its okay it didn't hinder us, everything else was wonderful and perfect way to spend our Anniversary. We ordered the "Menu du Soir" and this was really the perfect amount of food for us. Amuse Bouche: Fine Slices of Kampachi Beurre Blanc with Caviar Kamapchi Tartare Tarlette Clarified Fish Soup Geelee Bread Basket with butters Entrees: Chilean Sea Bass Lamb Filet Ballotine, Spinach-Garlic Chickpea Ragout Eggplant Caviar Desserts: Waialua Dark Chocolates Red Currant Sorbet Vanilla Souffle, Spiced Caramel, Grand Marnier Anglaise Sauce, Milk Chocolate Sauce, White Chocolate Crisp Happy Anniversary Mousse And....Chocolate Truffles to go in our goodie bag! Yay! We left with full, and happy bellies. Again wonderful and amazing night! Totally recommended!
So good!
I was worried about two things going into the night. First, the dress code and second if I was going to get enough food. The dress code seemed quite fair as long as you were somewhat dressed up. So my wife and I were comfortable in a business casual attire. The food... wow. We got the 7 course meal and it was amazing! We left stuffed to our eye balls!
It was my 15th wedding anniversary and my husband took me
It was my 15th wedding anniversary and my husband took me to the finest dining possible on Oahu, La Mer. I always dreamed of eating here and now that our finances are decent, my husband seems to be into making my dreams come true!!! Anyway, service was wonderful. People came out of the woodworks to wish us a happy anniversary! I don't even know who they were except that they worked there. One thing I wish was to have been able to see the kitchen or meet Chef Trancher! The food was all delightful and perfectly presented. It was a work night and I settled for a cocktail instead of the wine pairing which I think I regret. I feel like the wine pairing would've paced the dinner a bit better. In the end, I'll be back for our next milestone!
We decided to splurge for our 6th anniversary.
Neither of us had been here before, but we love French food and wanted a nice restaurant with a nice view. Valet parking is free, and very efficient. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We were sat by a window, which was really nice. Our server, Luke was excellent. I am so glad we were able to do a la carte, as the menus looked quite large. We each got one appetizer and one main course, and shared a dessert. The food is unusual, but in a cool way. They did kind of a French/Hawaiian fusion. The dessert was a vanilla soufflé which neither of us had had before--it is usually chocolate. It is definitely not the kind of restaurant you leave being uncomfortably full. The portions are small, but it is quality over quantity. The drinks were also quite expensive, but I think it's expected when you come to this kind of restaurant. You aren't just paying for the food--the service, the ambiance etc. We don't go out to eat often and definitely don't go someplace this nice often, but I think for a special occasion it was definitely worth it.
Is this Honolulu’s top spot?
This must be one of the best restaurants in Honolulu. The service, food, ambience, and overall experience were top notch. Throughly deserving of the great reviews and comments. There is either an extensive tasting menu or a la carte from the tasting menus - it is expected that all the table do al a carte or tasting (vegetarian available as the other menu is very fish heavy), which is not unreasonable. The service is “old fashioned” but not fussy and nothing is too much trouble. My only critical point is that the wine is eye wateringly expensive. The mark up on most things is huge and bottles that would cost c.£45 in England start at $180! A real gem.

A tradition we have is to have Christmas Eve dinner at a fine dining establishment. This year with our son and his wife we ate at La Mer. Haven't been here in many a moon, 27 years for dad, about 30 for our son and myself and a first time for our daughter in law. We arrived a little early and took the opportunity to take a few pictures, the hostess seeing us was nice enough to volunteer to take a few of them. Diners are greeted by the manager on duty, Steven. And there was a team of waiters which in our case was led by Mark. They were all very professional but not in a stuffy, formal way. Drinks for women often come with a rose. Dinner starts with an amuse de bouche. We had various things for dinner, one chose the menu of the day, another fish and lamb, fish and lobster and I had the lobster and fillet. All well prepared and presented. The large plates was like a canvas for food instead of a painting. And we all shared a soufflé that came with three different sauces. And even though we ended the meal with small sweets, we each given a small box if more sweets to take home.
A Must in Honolulu!
The view is stunning the food is equal. Every detail was meticulous. The menu was fantastic and they were flexible on substitutions for a charge. They also recommended a fantastic glass of wine that I had never tried after we finished our bottle. The staff here is A+.
One of the best restaurant experiences.
It is a beautiful restaurant with amazing service. The food was superb! Must go and i cannot wait to return!!
Booked this high-end restaurant for my partner's birthday
Booked this high-end restaurant for my partner's birthday and it surpassed expectations. The dress code and price reflect its premium quality. The ambiance was captivating, complemented by a breathtaking sunset view. Every dish was a delight, showcasing amazing flavors and quality. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff ensuring a perfect evening. Highly recommended for a memorable celebration!
A 7 star dining!
It's an absolute pleasure to have had the opportunity to dine at this prestigious fine dining restaurant on Oahu, Hawaii. La Mer is located at the popular 5 star Halekulani Hotel in Honolulu. This restaurant is gorgeous. Love the decor and the ambience. Classy and sophisticated. We were very fortunate to have been seated at the table with the stunning ocean view right in front of us. We had an exclusive culinary experience with the elegant 7 course French degustation menu. Food was amazing. Customer service was impeccable. Everything is top notch! The whole experience was a mind blowing. I would give it a 7 star if I could!
Fabulous Views and Excellent Service
We were able to snag a great table at La Mer and watched the sunset. The staff were very attentive and the food was terrific (albeit very pricey). I was glad that the showed flexibility in allowing each of us to pick and choose from the prix fixe menu and the nightly dinner menu.
Exceptional, Warm and Welcoming
Celebrated a memorable first meal in Hawaii with this fine dining experience. Overlooking the Pacific Ocean the open view and ambiance felt dreamlike. Unparalleled and attentive waitstaff to every detail. Each dish from the tasting menu is elegantly prepared and artfully presented.
A must visit when in Hawaii
We had a great dinner here last time we were in Hawaii. This time around we came for a pre dinner cocktail. Such a cool vibe and so polished. The cocktails were made to perfection. Service was spot on. And delicious canapés. A classic must visit when in Waikiki and wanting to treat yourself.
A great way to celebrate 50 years
My husband made a reservation to this restaurant based on reviews in honor of my 50th birthday as we visited the 50th state for our first time. La Mer did not disappoint. From the view, to the service, to the cocktails and wine, to accommodating my gluten-free and dairy-free restrictions, and to the delicious and aesthetically/pleasing culinary masterpieces, La Mer was a first-class, unforgettable experience. Every attention to detail was spectacular, and having a special birthday dessert that I could enjoy was so thoughtful. I am so glad we were able to celebrate my special day with La Mer.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
