Lunch experience that I greatly enjoyed
This really hit the spot after some wine tasting. Seating and service was efficient and friendly. Coming solo I was able to walk in without a reservation and immediately be seated on the patio on a Saturday. Food was delicious and distinctive. I had the chicken enchiladas. The mole sauce was sumptuous and it was topped incredibly finely sliced radishes. I also had the Churros for desert which came with a salted caramel dipping sauce that I just couldn’t get enough of. I thought the price was very fair for what I received.
Be the first to ReplyEphemeral Fish Tacos - Lack of Care for Customers
I was looking forward to trying this restaurant and was by myself. I wasn’t super hungry but wanted to try the tacos. I asked the waiter for his recommendation and he said the fish tacos were his favorite. He was not wrong. Those fish tacos were mindblowing. I have no idea how they achieved that batter. They were perfect. I had also asked if they offered tortilla chips and salsa with a bit of guacamole. The waiter said yes sure but neglected to tell me it was $17.50! I only had a few chips - they weren’t very good - the guacamole was excellent but I didn’t have much of it. (Note to restaurant: obviously people are used to getting complimentary chips and salsa at places or maybe paying a few dollars for them. To not communicate that ridiculous price… it’s very deceptive. Shame on you for taking advantage of people. As a former restaurant manager all I can say is you should know better. You aren’t looking out for your customers).
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing for anyone from a major city with decent food
Came here for dinner in an Uber, expecting to enjoy a few drinks and not wanting to drink and drive. What a waste of a roundtrip Uber ride. I was expecting much better food since the reviews were good and it was Michelin recommended restaurant. However, being from Chicago, where there are very good food options, and being of Hispanic background, this food was quite disappointing. We enjoy nice dinners and will normally enjoy drinks, appetizers, entrees, and desserts. At this place we didn’t even finish the appetizer, didn’t order dessert or even order a second round of drinks as they couldn’t even seem to get the margaritas right. Poor quality and hight prices in my opinion, but staff was great. Good customer service and all very friendly. If you don’t know any better, you might still enjoy this restaurant,
Be the first to ReplyTasty but Overpriced
The food was good, but boy is it overpriced for what you get. A small bowl (really a cup) of guacamole and a basket of chips for $17.50? The description was pretty fancy, but it was just a small portion of guac and a basket of tortilla chips. The main courses were good, but nothing special. The website makes it seem as if the restaurant offers a unique Mexican dining experience, but it's just an expensive Mexican restaurant in a high-end neighborhood. The food was tasty, but not any better than your average Mexican restaurant.

Nice local place for good Mexican inspired dishes. We visit here when we are in Yountville and don't have a standing reservation anywhere as they are usually very accommodating.
Be the first to ReplyRude Wait Staff and Mediocre Food
We were on a girls Napa trip celebrating two 50th birthdays. We were really disappointed in this restaurant. The only good thing we had was the Elote. The mole enchiladas were OK but kind of cold. No one else finished their food. The margaritas were small and expensive. Two girls ordered skinny which were too sour to drink. When they asked to have them sweetened up, we experienced our first glimpse of how much our waiter seemed to hate his job. He had an attitude and reminded them that they were skinny. He continued to seem irritated the rest of the night. We told him we were celebrating birthdays and asked if they had any complimentary desserts. He said NO pretty rudely so ordered churros. As we were walking out, we saw another table of girls celebrating a birthday and they had a sparkler in a dessert at the table. We stopped to talk to them and found out it was from the restaurant. Our waiter happened to walk by at that moment so we asked him about it. He rudely said "they were out of them and had to go to the store to buy more" and walked away. Then that night one girl was throwing up from what seemed like something bad she ate. Would never go back again.

Visited on a Sunday night, place was busy and a bit noisy, with football on TV. Started with a pitcher of margaritas which were delicious. Their quacamole was good with house made chips. My entree was the black mole enchiladas with chicken. The mole was delicious with complex layers of flavor. Ended with nice crispy churros. Also, welcome and seating by Eric was inviting and enthusiastic.

We wanted to enjoy this place despite a couple of mixed reviews. Sadly the food was pedestrian and very expensive. The surroundings are pleasant, as are the staff, but the whole experience was sadly forgettable and not that cheap either- there are better options close by.

Our second visit just OK. Great location and excellent staff. Guacamole excellent, chips passable. Pastor tacos tasty but pork was gritty and difficult to chew. You could lay the taco down cut up the pork, reassemble an add guacamole. Not good value for the cost and quality.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyed the mariachi band, not the food
The best thing about our dinner here was the mariachi band and the patio area was nice. However, the service was incredibly slow. Food portions were small and our entrees were bland and dry. Drinks were just ok, and quite expensive.

Great change from drinking wine all day! Perfect service at the bar! Excellent guacamole and good margarita!
Be the first to ReplyOne of Thomas Kellers restaurants in Yountville. Good Mexican fare
We stopped by for lunch after a wine tasting and shared a Margarita pitcher with a Gran Mariner floater. Our server Carlos was very friendly and helpful. We sat outside in a nice courtyard. We had all the different tacos. Which come either 2 to a plate or 3 . My favorite was the “Pastor “ which is a marinated pork meat very spicy and flavorful. The Branzino mesquite grilled was terrific . The salads were ok, the guacamole and chips were as good . The enchiladas were ok too . None of the dishes came with the traditional beans and rice but I guess that is because they want to avoid calories. We had churros for dessert. I would recommend La Calenda for lunch

So disappointed. The food was good but nothing to write home about. Average Mexican food. Service was horrible. Three of our party got their food 15 minutes before the other 4 received theirs . Never asked if we wanted more chips or additional drinks would not recommend or return . Server should be at a diner . Very overrated
Be the first to ReplyMeh, not destination dining
Meh. My enchiladas Verdes we're Luke warm. The food and service were average. They are hard to deal with. My friend left her sunglasses there, and there isn't any way to call and speak with the host. Obviously, if you can't get a reservation at french laundry or Buchon, but want to dine at the chefs restaurant, sure, or if it fits into your wine tasting schedule, but don't rush there for the food or experience.

We were happy to have brunch at La Calenda. Loved the watermelon app and sangria. We sat outside on a beautiful day and had great service.

Definitely not up to the standards of Thomas Keller's reputation for the excellent food and service he provides in his French Laundry and Bouchon Bistro restaurants. Food at La Calenda was poorly presented - blah looking product on equally blah looking plates. Plus, every dish served to the four of us was Luke warm at best. There are so many good restaurants in the Napa Valley. I can't see this one surviving very long - unless it does so solely on Keller's reputation.
A revamp is definitely needed.
Decent enough food - just OK overall.
Like everywhere, they seem to be short staffed (10 minutes before I had to get up and find someone to serve us). Fish tacos are too heavily fried, but fish was good. Enchiladas verde was ok as well. $16 for chips and guacamole! Town is overrun with tourist on the weekends.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Tacos and Sangria!
Patio dining with big screen TVs. Food was excellent - especially the tacos and guacamole. Also loved the Sangria. We’re from Texas so would say the margaritas were so/so. We will be back on our next trip to Napa!
Be the first to ReplyGreat tacos and service
Really solid tacos the way tacos should be, great tortilla, well prepared and seasoned filling and the perfect salsa/topping. Really simple food well executed. (Also had their ceviche which was perfectly balanced citrus/heat/fat
Be the first to ReplyGet the carnitas, you know you want to.
Incredible meal to start off our trip to Yountville. Our group contains some major taco snobs (myself included) and we were blown away. The fish tacos were light, crispy, and delicious but the carnitas and the barbacoa were the real show stoppers.
I will absolutely be making a return visit next time I am in wine country.
