Place of ambiance , good food , and good service .
However , the menu is overpriced in my opinion especially so I'm regard to the portions you receive.

While we were waiting to be seated we had a few cocktails which were refreshing and lessened the minor sting of the short wait. The hostess was sweaty and stressedlooking but effective. 1) albacore sashimi with crispy onions - a stalwart winner every time2) short rib fried rice - came in a large bibimbap bowl and was luxurious and satisfying. The amount of short rib did not go unnoticed 3) robota eggplant - sweet and tasty 4) Jidori chicken - moist and proteinaceous5) crispy rice with spicy tuna - extra crispy and always a favorite6) rainbow roll - my 10 year old consumed the entire thing 7) mochi donut - warm and wonderful 8) mango mousse - a nice mouth feel but a vacuous miss

Portions are SMALL!!! I mean tiny little pieces. Compared to other sushi restaurants, Katsuya, DO BETTER!!! Please go to MURAKAMI and enjoy your REAL SUSHI there!!! I would've ordered from Murakami, but they are so busy (wondering why), and at that moment, online orders stopped.
Be the first to ReplyI actually have never been, but it looks sick.
Um, this just popped up because I searched up "Sushi Places "but- it didn't look interesting. While we're at it, wanna hear a joke? Your life. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH. I know right. Ok, bye.

Service was great we legit came 15mins late during closing time. They were kind enough to accept us because I called ahead of time. Food was delicious and the ambiance was nice dark lit.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place! Always has amazing music and service.
There's a couple of parking lots down the street that start at $3 for every 2 hours and they do offer valet parking! The crunchy & crispy slaw salad is my favorite food to start off my course! It's sweet, crispy, and will leave you wanting more. It's very refreshing and comes with grilled chicken that is already cut and tossed in the salad making it easier to eat!

.. i have a suggestion for you. You need more than one server to open the restaurant. We dined on a Tuesday, at 5 pm before our show at Pantages. It took 15 minutes to order, i literally had to wave my hands in the air to get a second round. Service was definitely underwhelming. It took so long for service to happen that a party of 2 next to us walked out. Shame.Food: beyond mediocre, and the quality was subpar for the prices. Rainbow roll had the avocado just thrown on top. Edamame not even warm. ***I went to a similar concept in OC called NOVA Kitchen and Bar which was so similar but so much better***I am so upset i spent $200++ on this dining experience. 2 stars for the ambiance and music.
Be the first to ReplyI made a reservation for 2 for my wife's birthday.
We were seated in a dimly lit dining room and brought water. We looked over the menu (that was very hard to read because of a terrible design and typography choices) and decided what we wanted to eat. We then closed our menu to indicate we were ready to order.A table of 4 was seated across from us and brought water as well.My wife and I waited for our server to come back around to us, and we waited, and waited - about 10 minutes had passed and I noticed the table of 4 was already placing their dinner order, while our server was nowhere in sight. We got up and walked out - good thing we did because we found a better sushi place down the street from that started with a T.Do not recommend this place based off of terrible service from the start.

Went there for dinner to celebrate my birthday and the completion of a project. Husband had a reservation and everything. Sat there for a while waiting for a server and people that came after were being helped. We ended up walking out and going to a better sushi place near Shake Shack with nicer staff and better service.

The service was great and very friendly. Food was delicious. The decor is beautiful. Had a great time with my friend. We celebrated her bday and we got free desert! Will be back.
Be the first to ReplyOne of my favorite sushi places.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for high quality sushi.

Started from valley parking to menu I think its a little pricey, especially when the price doesn't match with the food . Some of them are ok but the sushis are really not tasty . Small moms and pops sushi places are better for sure . Some Alcohols dont have prices how we can order a dring without knowing the price. I don't mind paying at the restaurant if only the food matches with the prices . Other than this everything was ok the DJ or atmosphere, welcoming everyone saying something we don't understand. I guess it became one of those places that you need to get a dring 1 or 2 small plate and chill.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely my favorite Japanese restaurant in LA.
Love the sushi, the salmon sashimi, the lobster roll (no longer on the menu, sadly!), I hate Brussel sprouts but this restaurant make them soooo tasty! Really love the watermelon drink too. I think every dish is amazing in this place. Love it
Be the first to ReplyKatsuya was a welcome surprise.
Our server David was especially attentive (with only one mistake I'll mention below). Everything was prepared perfectly, flavorful and fresh. Standouts included Yellowtail Jalapeno sashimi, Eggplant, Unagi Cut Roll made to order, and Seaweed Salad. They made a bourbon "old fashioned" with zero complaints, even though this is a Japanese restaurant. Ditto coffee. I told David we had theater reservations, so he had us fed and out in a NOT-rushed 75 minutes. My only problem was not reading the check carefully. We were charged $10 for a Milkshake IPA that we did NOT order. The above mentioned items plus edamame, a Spicy Tuna Roll, Maitake Mushroom, a glass of wine, and three soft drinks plus tax AND a 5% automatic service charge (tip) cost $215. We bumped that up with an extra tip to $250. It's a reasonable price (I think) for a top-quality dining experience for three people. The rooms are beautiful, dark and dappled with intimate pools of light. Good acoustics. The noise level was loud enough to obscure nearby conversations at other tables, but our murmuring was entirely audible to us. I recommend Katsuya completely, just be sure to check the bill.
Be the first to ReplyThere's a reason I have to come here EVERY time I'm in LA.
Just fantastic!! Love the crispy rice spicy tuna, baked crab hand rolls, assorted sushi, teriyaki chicken and fried rice. Even the dessert was amazing but I could barely eat any. Service is elegant and friendly.

I came here last week and am a little disappointed that I can only give it 3 stars. We went on a Tuesday, called ahead and when we got there the hostess seemed hesitant to seat us. Maybe because it was 45 minutes to closing? Maybe because we were dressed casually (dark jeans and black t-shirts)? I saw the other patrons and it was clear there was no dress code. The restaurant wasn't busy and yet we were sat at an out of the way table or what I like to refer to as the nono seat. Our server came promptly and although he was very nice, he seemed oddly overwhelmed considering it was not a busy night. We asked for a straw for the water and he repeatedly forgot it and even when we told him we were done and didn't wish to order more food we still had to remind him to bring the check. We ordered the baked crab hand roll which didn't have great presentation and was pretty fishy tasting. There was also a tendon in it (kinda like a bone) which made it a bit unappetizing. The spicy edemame was very good as was the rainbow roll and the tempura roll. The fish on the rolls tasted fresh and delicious. The restaurant itself is dark and feels like it's trying to hard to be sexy (typical LA) and is also pretty spendy and not worth the price. I love sushi and eat it regularly. I live in the bay where we have some pretty top notch dining so I have some idea of how it should go and this did not hit the mark. Next time I'll in LA I'll go back to.my favorite spot, Sugar Fish!

We wanted to have a nice dinner before a show at the Pantages, so we made a reservation. It turned out to be a ridiculous dining experience. I think they're trying to create a "cool" Hollywood sushi experience that boils down to paying double what you would pay at a decent sushi joint, and then getting underwhelming sushi. When we checked in, we were asked to wait for a few minutes, despite two hostesses and a huge empty dining room. When each table is seated, there's a shouting call and response between the hostess and the sushi chefs. That means every two minutes for the next half hour, somebody was shouting. There was a DJ in the dining room (this is kinda embarrassing). Opened the menu and the prices are impossible to see. They're in tiny yellow font, which is why you don't see any recent menu pics here on Yelp. Most people in the restaurant had their cell phone flashlights out at some point to try to read the menu. I ordered the cocktail on special and then a few minutes later was told they were out of it. The restaurant had only been open for an hour and you're out of the special? Also, you can't just substitute something and make a similar cocktail? Instead was offered the $18 house sake. On to dinner. Ordered mackerel. "We're out". Ordered the spicy tuna crispy rice, which are tiny ($23). They were not at all spicy (though the texture was good). We ordered some nigiri and it arrived about 3 minutes later. There's no way that fish could have been cut fresh. It tasted...fine. Took another chance with a spicy yellowtail roll. This tiny cut roll ($12) was also not spicy and just mediocre. At that point, we decided to just cut our losses and leave and get dinner after the show. We paid $100 for what amounted to appetizers. Honestly, would have been happy to pay that if the food or atmosphere were any good.

This is not the place for you if you want to have any type of conversation. I went when it was busy but luckily I had a reservation. Even though I had a reservation it still took about 20 minutes to be seated. When we were seated it was really hard to hear anything my friends said. Everyone was so loud and some people were just drunk laughing historically at the bar. Additionally the tables are pretty low. It felt uncomfortable low. I really liked the food and the bathroom was really nice and the staff was extremely nice.

Good enough food, some of the items very good, but a limited item menu. And speaking of the menu. Why do we continually need to take out our phones, turn on the flashlight, just to read the damn menu because you think it's so cool to have an elegant looking menu instead of one we can actually see. Even if there was enough light, there isn't, to actually see it without using your phone, the smallest font they could possibly use is also in red? or pink? I don't know, even with light I couldn't tell. So if you can actually see the menu items, you can't see the prices. Prices, rather high for the very small portions. Their sushi chefs are quite talented, I've never seen seafood sliced so thin in my life. So, cost of food, tax, some sort of unexplained fee, and you have yourself an overpriced meal, served in the dark, in an extremely loud atmosphere too. Going back? Probably never. Too bad too, so many restaurants in the area didn't survive Covid. Guess we'll have to go further out from the area for a meal next time we visit the area.

Be the first to ReplyI tried Katsuya the other week and was very impressed.
Maybe I went in with low expectations being a Japanese person going to a restaurant like this but was enjoyed my meal. I will say, the sushi isn't really worth it but the miso black cod and tomahawk short rib were the real stars! The roasted vegetables were pretty good and the popcorn shrimp was also great. Skip the sushi. Get the meats and it should be enough food.

............ Service, location, vibe, karage, gyoza, did I mention the spectacular dessert?
