Kanesho Kyoto Reviews from The Last Year
Kansesho - Auto Reserve app - is this a scam app?
I paid the 1000Yen to make a restaurant reservation though the Japanese app. called Auto Reserve and received an auto-replay saying that they will "call the restaurant" one week befoe the reservation date. i subsequently received a reply on the date that Auto Reserve said that they will call the restaurant, reply said " Unfortunately, the reservation request could not be accommodated with the following details. Please note that no seats are guaranteed at the restaurant." so is Auto Reserve a scam - we paid 1000Yen and now are advised that seats are not guaranteed. I cannot even write to Auto Reserve to inquire about getting my 1000 Yen refunded as the email address for Auto Reserve is a "no reply" address. I would strongly urge caution before anyone uses Auto Reserve. we were at Kanesho last year and very much emjoyed the unagi meal, but it is proving too hard to figure out how to make a reservation.
A strange experience, can't say I recommend it.
Wanted to try eel as there were some good reviews for this place. First of all the only way I could get a reservation was via a Japanese app called Auto Reserve which charged me 1000 yen for the privilege! The restaurant is very small so if you don't reserve you risk being turned away. You enter the space which feels very dated, (oh and good luck finding it) however the real downer is the staff. The chef looks so depressed - he looks like he hates cooking eel and although he has an open kitchen, studiously avoids anyone's eye, pointedly turning his back on the diners throughout. He is the picture of abject weariness and resignation. There is one waiter and the chef and the waiter did not exchange one word for the entire time we were in the restaurant. I couldn't work out if they were not on speaking terms of whether this was always how it was! On the way to the loo during the evening I caught a glimpse of the chef sat literally staring into a corner looking massively depressed. A couple of the dishes I wanted to try were not available which was disappointing. The chef's demeanour made everyone feel unwelcome and everyone spoke in whispers hence there was no atmosphere whatsoever. Yes the eel was good, but I don't want to feel like this in a restaurant, I want to feel like the staff are pleased to have me there. I felt very much like they were doing me a favour by allowing me to eat there. It is also cash only, if you still want to go!

Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.

Can come from a lot of places, people who don't want to get charged their cancellation fee or people who just have them and cant go.

almost all restaurants aren't affiliated with AT and I'm guessing it's mostly people wanting to not pay cancellation fees.
