The food was great! We havent stop talking about Kabuki. It was our first Michellin star restaurant and it was completely worth it. Would recommend 100%
Be the first to ReplyWho gave this restaurant a Michelin star???
I seldom write reviews but felt the need to do so in this instance specifically to comment on our lackluster experience at Kabuki so that other visitors to Madrid would not make the same mistake we did. Madrid has the second largest seafood market after Tokyo and we had faith in the Michelin guide not steering us wrong. We selected the tasting menu and I would say that we have had better sushi in any tourist trap in any third-tier beach in the US. Atmosphere: 2/5. Reasonably clean, poorly decorated, very limited ambiance. We were squished into the corner next to a dusty air vent, but we were willing to overlook it for great food (which we did not get). Food: 1/5. Uninspired in every fashion. Tastes like the chef only knows what sushi is from Pinterest pictures and never had a cut of fish in his life, and did his best to cobble something together using a limited imagination. Words are inadequate to describe the depth of our confusion so I will hit the highlights only. The starter included a fried wonton that tasted like it came from the economy pack at Walmart. None of the fish taste came through in any of the sushi plates. One of the mains was a sunny side up and potatoes with some poorly seasoned tuna that tasted liked the chef put the leftovers of two separate meals together and prayed that it would work. Another main was stewed wagyu (who stews wagyu??) with two french fries. The first dessert was a yuzu jelly with white chocolate cream which actually wasn't bad. The second dessert was literally a mochi that you might get from any grocery store. The best part of the whole meal was the wine. Service: 5/5. The staff were actually quite friendly and attentive. Overall, there are much better eats in Madrid, and there are much better places to take a date. Save your money and your time.
Be the first to ReplyWould not repeat even if it was a normal priced sushi
This was a huge disappointment. I can't believe it was awarded with 1 Michelin.
Why 1/5?
We faced too many things that shouldn't happen in any restaurant. But lest in one so high rated and priced. I didn't care paying 200 eur per person but for a good service, good food and good attrezo.
Service: was terribly bad. .
We decided to go for the "tasting menu" and we were told that this was too complicated and too late for 3pm.
The waiter was not able to recommend us anything when asking for recommendation.
The waiter was interrupting in uncomfortable moments, like sucking seafoods head (carabinero)
The waiter put their hands into our plates taking plate out of there. Without asking or even seeing it coming. Ohh, surprise, a hand that is not your in your plate. Touching the plate were you are next going to put your food in.
And throwing the soja sauce in the table while picking it!
Then they removed the tablecloth and table was dirty... and they put new cutlery on top of the dirty table...
Food: okeish for a normal sushi
They brought us a started. It was an overcooked piece of salmon. It was gummy, no taste. It was like an old rest over.
I've been at other sushis (including Kirei by Kabuki in Malaga) where food was much better.
It was like a normal sushi restaurant on a bad day. Food was disappointing. If it would have been a normal priced and normal sushi... I wouldn't even go back!!
Atrezo / presentation / show: nada!! Very bad. Nornal presentation of food. Not comfortable. Not for a 1 Michelin star.
I wanted to enjoy a good restaurant and paying good money and received a bad experience and big bill (which I wouldn't have cared if I would have enjoyed it)
Hope this review helps others. Next week I am going for El Bohío. I am sure it will be another experience.
