My wife and I had the best meal of our lives at Jungsik in

5/5 by 👻 @Jason Z. on 09/15/2025

My wife and I had the best meal of our lives at Jungsik in celebration of her 40th birthday! We made reservations for the chic bar, which allowed us to order a la carte. From the moment we entered, we felt welcomed. We appreciated the attentive, but not obsequious, service. The food absolutely blew us away! The six-piece banchan included a sublime bite of wagyu beef tartare, a tantalizing fruit tart with an olive-oil crust and a vibrant truffle soup. The otherworldly, dry-aged artic char had perfectly crisp skin, tender, rich flesh and a delightful bed of trout roe. The wagyu beef short rib was the best steak we've ever had--rich and flavorful, with the perfect level of sweetness and a touch of char. Dessert excelled as well. The playful Dolhareubang was served as a rock garden and contained a riot of flavor (black bean, rice and sesame). The bonus plate of four small dessert bites all delighted. Truly, every single dish was at least very good and most were outstanding. Moreover, the cocktails were the best we've ever had! We especially loved the old fashioned (made with Laphroaig 10) and the Omijarita (made with mezcal). Jungsik absolutely deserves its three Michelin stars and we would definitely return!

5/5 by 👻 @Arvian D. on 08/13/2025

My son and I had to be in New York for an event but as I was also celebrating my birthday, we decided to book reservations at Jungsik since it was the 1st Korean restaurant to earn 3 Michelin stars. I've been to Michelin Star restaurants before but my experience at Jungsik was definitely one for the record books. Upon entering, we were greeted with professionalism and an offer to relieve us of baggage that I held in my hand. We were then escorted to our table. The ambience in this restaurant was astonishing. It was warm and inviting but also elegant and sophisticated. I could see and feel the luxury experience. Each server that approached our table did so with the utmost precision and carefully placed and prepared our dishes accordingly. They even took the time to explain what everything was and clarified how best to eat it. I had specific dietary restrictions that I informed the restaurant about a week in advance. They took the necessary steps to ensure that they created special dishes for me on their signature menu. Their service was on point! I was absolutely impressed by every single dish that was served. They first provided a special drink that was refreshing, very flavorful, appetite enhancing, and a palate cleanser for the beginning of our experience. There were a total of 15 diverse dishes. We started with Banchan, 6 small dishes, and finished off with 9 dishes from their signature menu. I truly enjoyed every single item served; however, my favorites were the Soy Bean Soup with Truffle Pearls, Striped Jack, Octopus, Arctic Char, and Yellowtail Kimbap. All dishes were prepared and cooked to perfection. The presentation and display of everything were top notch. The icing on the cake for me was when they presented one of the dishes with Happy Birthday text on the plate and a candle to top it off. The experience alone is worth a second visit, but the quality, texture, consistency, flavor, and quantity of dishes served along with the servers professionalism and the elegance of the evening warrants future visits. My birthday celebration at this restaurant will forever be remembered. Thank you to the staff and chefs at Jungsik for an exceptional visit!

The flavors of the food were very interesting and very tasty all with a story behind it. Did not order the wine tasting but ordered 3 cocktails that were amazingly crafted. Espresso Martini was pretty strong so if you don't like strong drinks don't over it. Dress code was very relaxed which I appreciate because I was traveling and wanted to be confortable.

I come to Jungsik almost every year for last 10 years and I was never disappointed. The restaurant is now with Michelin three stars, and the service and dedication is at another level. Every dish is done with desire for perfection, in terms of balance on crispiness, saltiness, and sweetness. And the effort of using traditional Korean ingredients and cultures is impressive.

1/5 by 👻 @Wenlong J. on 07/06/2025

I usually don't post reviews, but I'm really angry about my experience at Jungsik NYC tonight, and I want to tell everyone to avoid this place. I celebrate our anniversary there with my wife, hoping for that fancy Michelin 3-star food and vibe. The food was mostly forgettable and way too expensive. Those six starters are nothing special, honestly. The octopus was pretty good though - crispy, chewy, definitely the best bite of the whole dinner. But the scallop was just normal, like something you'd get anywhere, and the rice under it actually tasted better. The yellowtail fish with the kimbap is not fresh, the meat actually fell apart. And the Galbi was the biggest disappointment. It tasted like short rib you'd grab from Whole Foods, just tossed with some random Korean flavor BBQ sauce. I didn't even get why they put kimchi and salad with it; it felt totally separate. Plus, I kept tasting sesame oil in half the dishes, even dessert! It just made everything taste the same and got super tiring. Honestly, the food probably deserved only a third of what we paid; most of it felt just like regular Korean restaurant quality but presented in a fine dining way. The food was disappointing, but the service really made me angry. Right at the start, after I ordered two cocktails, the server kept asking if I wanted more wine and I said no every single time clearly. During dinner, most of the time, the server would just drop the dish down, give a quick intro, and then leave. They didn't even bother to ask if the food was good or if we had any questions, or simply say "Enjoy!". That's definitely NOT fine dining service. And then, at the very end, even BEFORE our last dessert, the server just came over and flat-out asked if I "agree" to pay a 20/25/30% tip. I'm usually happy to tip, but THAT IS NOT HOW YOU ASK FOR IT! Jungsik NYC completely blew it. The food was uninspired and overpriced, and the service was just plain bad. Seriously, save your money and don't let it ruin your important dates!

I tried writing most of this review right before Atomix.

5/5 by 👻 @Derek Z. on 07/06/2025

After finishing this review afterwards though, I would say that Atomix was undoubtedly better. I jotted a bunch of notes down during my meal so my memory isn't too stale. This place had an elegant and simple atmosphere. Nothing very notable, though we got seated in the back room which was more romantic. I started off with the persimmon tea which had a deep and fruity scent and tasted slightly sweet and herbal. I enjoyed it the more I drank it. The meal started off with the chef's take on Banchan: 5 elaborate bites. The yuca was fresh and had mixed textures, the item with the roe was crunchy, yet soft with a slight kick, the eggshell had a creamy steamed egg with spinach in it, the meat bite was a little tough, but the tartare sauce really elevated the flavor by giving it a little kick, and finally, the crispy apple pie was a little fatty. The first course, caviar on top of raw fish, was a little difficult to eat as it fell apart easily. The food itself was fresh and contrasting; it was soft yet crispy, creamy, and salty. They were definitely generous with the caviar. The octopus was next and it had a delicious aroma before it even hit the table. It was a little salty with a crispy exterior and perfectly tender meat. The gochujang was creamy and spicy, but tasted a little more muted than what I'm used to. I think this allowed the octopus to shine though. Afterwards, the scallop came out. It was well seared with a citrous and rich sauce. The base of the dish had some crispy rice which was fun to eat and held up on its own in terms of flavor. The squid ink was a little messy, but surprisingly added a lot to the dish. The arctic char that followed smelled so fresh, it could still be flopping around. The meat was soft and the red curry it laid in had a strong kick. This may have been some of the best curry I've ever had, especially in combination with the coconut foam. Now onto the infamous white truffle add-on dish. The fresh truffle aroma hit my nose as soon as they opened their box of white truffles and they shaved a generous amount onto the small pasta dish. It tasted earthy and creamy with bits of pepper. It was definitely a simple dish, but very elegant. Unfortunately, it was still closer to a carbonara than anything else... I would not say it was worth it, but it was cool to taste such fresh white truffle. The sixth dish was their signature kimbap. It had an incredible crisp to it and had a distinct nutty, earthy truffle rice flavor. The truffle and fish is an interesting combo but really unique. The main course was their Galbi. This was definitely the best few pieces of kbbq I've ever had. Tender, umami, simple, flavorful, and cooked to perfect. This was my favorite dish by far. The rice was super nutty as well. For the palate cleanser, we got an apple tasting dessert with watermelon foam. The white part was like a pudding and the sorbet was really fresh. This was really the most disappointing part of the meal: the main dessert. It referenced a Korean island with a dessert shaped like a statue. It was hazelnutty with black sesame and matcha flavors. Next was a walnut cake in the shape of a walnut in a bed of walnuts. It was not very sweet and had some red bean inside. Tasted great, but didn't feel very innovative even though the presentation was cool. Finally, the petit 4 was pretty standard. The first one tasted like citron tea, the second was this small soft dessert which tasted really good. The final item was a Korean snack which tasted like a mix of molasses and red bean. This was one of the top restaurants I've been to and I think it was worth it at the price we paid minus the truffle pasta (295 base). I do want to mention that the service was occasionally lacking (not refilling my water or tea) and there was no synchronized placement of the dishes. The atmosphere also wasn't that special if that's something you're looking for.

Mains was good, great even.

4/5 by 👻 @Fortitudetude .. on 07/06/2025

The banchans (felt like a course meal all in itself), the octopus (cooked very well, a bit rich tasting as a stand alone but great with the gochujang sauce), the scallop nurungi, and the kimbap stood out to me in a good way. 2/3 desserts were fine. But the last dessert didn't hit the mark and cheapened the experience for me. The teas (they ask if wanted any tea or coffee before they brought out the 2nd to last dessert) were a good and relaxing way to close the meal but be wary that it will be an additional charge. Service was fine, not exceptional. Perhaps another 3 star Michelin restaurant in NYC that we tried a month before was just an anomaly... (though the food at both places were delicious, the desserts, the teas, the copy of the menu at the end, and the ambiance felt better there). NOT in an entitled way, there I felt like we were being treated to a special meal of a lifetime... here I felt like we were eating at a well-rated course meal restaurant.

I have a hot take.

4/5 by 👻 @Jamie C. on 07/20/2024

Jungsik was good, but not the mind-blowing I was anticipating. I had very high expectations of Jungsik especially after having to been to Jua, and was excited to experience more contemporary Korean cuisine. It's difficult not to compare the two. Given that Jungsik has two stars, and had a significantly greater price point than Jua's one star, I was expecting it to be out of this world. The food was excellent, don't get me wrong, with special attention to the appetizer to start (was phenomenal; the entire five dishes were a "taste" of the dishes to follow, and it was interesting to follow this thread throughout the remainder of the meal), and the heavenly octopus (best I ever had, succulent yet crispy in all the right places). However, the rest didn't stand out as strongly to me. A point of personal bias may be that I prefer lighter, more acidic foods versus (sashimi, vegetables) more heavier, saucier foods, which Jungsik had more of. I also felt that the desert add-ons weren't worth it, and I was expecting more of a stand out in these dishes that would cost extra. Service was outstanding though, and the waiters and waitresses were incredibly hospitable and kind. Incredible food and service, but would I return? Probably not, you can catch me at Jua

If you like delicious food--and who doesn't--and/or want to treat yourself to a great meal, this is the place for you. The full tasting menu is amazing but so is the a la carte 'bar menu'. It's impossible to pick a favorite but highlights are definitely the sea urchin rice and the yellowfin kimbap. And the service is also impeccable (and friendly). I cannot recommend JungSik any more highly or think of any better restaurant in NYC.

Wow! What an experience.

5/5 by 👻 @Mel J. on 06/02/2024

Food was incredible from the very first bite until the last. Service is high quality, not synchronized but very professional, and anticipated the needs of the customer. There was only one instance in the first dish where five items were served on individual pedestals where were had to reach over another item in order to eat it in the chef's recommended order. My favorites included the banchan, kimbap, octopus and desserts! Great flavors and textures - including crispy crusts and soft succulent flesh. I loved all the desserts - including the 'carrot' cake and the truffle cone! The pastry chef perfectly balances taste with ingenuity and creativity. We also got the premium wine pairing which was great. The atmosphere chic and calm, great for small groups or couples. My only slight qualm was that one of the servers was very pushy about us ordering more drinks. This felt out of place at a fine dining establishment, and every other member of staff was so helpful and friendly that I think this was an anomaly.

They made it very special for my birthday and was definitely full by the end. They were very accommodating for my dairy free restriction which was appreciated. The wife had the full vision but didn't notice too much of a difference through out the menu. For a two Michelin star in New York, I was expecting a taste bud euphoria trip which never really happened. Everything was just really good. The sea urchin was only thing we didn't enjoy. Texture and taste was off and at a premium for add on made it a less than appealing choice. The wagyu was almost too tender like bone marrow. The ventura mencia ribeira sacra I would drink again. Great fruit forward wine but not too sweet. The woojeon tea first steeping was excellent. Don't bother with second steeping. No taste. The desserts were fantastic with the stand out being the refreshing palate cleanser snowball I call it :)

Jungsik serves up food that clearly deserves three Michelin

5/5 by 👻 @Krystyn P. on 05/26/2024

Jungsik serves up food that clearly deserves three Michelin stars, but does it without all the fuss and pretentiousness that one can encounter at a restaurant with that third star. This was hands down one of the best meals I've ever had the privilege to enjoy. Each course was a stand out and there was an element of fun throughout the meal without it seeming gimmicky. If I was going to choose a favorite course, it would be the scallop. It was perfection. A close second would be the octopus, and that's coming from someone who really doesn't like octopus. It's clear why that dish remains a Jungsik staple. The staff is so attentive and is keen to ensure every party has a memorable experience. And I must say their play list of 80s music was the best soundtrack of any Michelin starred restaurant I've ever been to- simultaneously classy but chill. Jungsik, don't ever change; you're perfect the way you are.

I came here with a group of friends and everyone loved this meal and left feeling full. One member in our group is vegetarian, and they crushed it accommodating for her needs. The ambiance is beautiful and not super stuffy. Our group definitely felt comfortable laughing without feeling like we were making too much noise in the space. For drinks, both the wine pairing or cocktails were fantastic. I went with the cinnamon roll cocktail- if you like a sweet and creamy flavor profile you'll love this and it comes with an adorable cinammon swirl on top. The tasting menu was just one phenomenal course after the other. My favorite savory dish was the arctic char and favorite sweet dish was the carrot cake. The service was wonderful the entire way through. Constantly getting the chairs for us, providing new napkins when we left for the bathroom, and when we were leaving, I left my phone there by accident, but the waiter ran out after us in the rain to get me my phone back. I can't wait to come back here and experience more Korean restaurants!

The food is high-quality and there's a rotating menu every season or so, the plating and food is meticulously crafted with detailed oriented chefs. The service is excellent, the server came back and refilled our water continuously and checked in to see how full we were or how the food is. The ambience is dim lit and perfect for a nice dinner. Highly recommend. The menu is about $300/pp, we got the seasonal black ice cream add on for an additional $25. Worth it!

Having been to Jungsik twice now, I can say with confidence

5/5 by 👻 @Christy H. on 04/07/2024

Having been to Jungsik twice now, I can say with confidence that it has consistently amazing dishes and staff. It remains my favorite place to get a nice, high quality course meal in NYC. I'd choose Jungsik over Brooklyn Fare any day!! From the reimagined banchan to start to the unique desserts at the end (the carrot--basically reimagined carrot cake--and the walnut--a pancake-like shell with warm red bean inside--were some of the best sweets I've ever eaten), the entire meal at Jungsik is incredible. The menu may get refreshed based on the season/ingredients, but delicious menu staples such as the crispy-yet-tender octopus thankfully remain. No matter what you get, every bite of each dish is full of flavor and perfectly prepared and plated. Each ingredient shines and the texture and flavor are highlighted to make the dish outstanding (for example, the seaweed in my hand roll was delightfully crispy and amplified each bite I took with the soft, flavorful accompanying fish). This is truly a special culinary experience that is worth every penny. In addition to the food going above and beyond, the service does, as well. My server noticed I was left-handed after I took my first bite of the banchan and adjusted my place setting and dish layout accordingly. I've NEVER had that happen before and was blown away by the attention to detail. My husband and I were celebrating a special occasion, and each staff member who assisted us wished us a happy anniversary. The staff were professional but warm, not stiff as in other nice restaurants, which we appreciated. Jungsik is "elevated Korean" fine dining, and the ambiance matches this theme. The restaurant has a clean but not stark vibe, and ample seating for those who wish to try the full menu, plus a bar for those walk-ins who just want a particular item a la carte (which I didn't know was possible and learned about on my last visit). If you have a special occasion or just want some incredible food, definitely add Jungsik to your list!

Good Food but Inconsistent Experience

4/5 by 👻 @Jeff K on 04/01/2024

My wife and I had dinner here. We arrived and found an empty reception stand. After a few minutes someone showed up who put us on an elevator to the 2nd floor where the restaurant is located. We were taken to a table that had a chair and a rounded couch for seating. I sat in the chair as I prefer to sit in a chair and also prefer to sit across from my wife, not next to her. The woman server who seated seated us made me move and wouldn’t let me sit in the chair. I found that very irritating. Why have a chair at the table if you can’t sit in it? Am I paying them or are they paying me? Not a good start to the evening. They offered a set menu with supplements. The standard menu was pretty reasonable at approximately $200 USD. The supplements started at $60 and some doubled the cost of the dinner. They also offered pricey wine pairings (5 glass or 9 glass). We opted for the standard menu plus a bottle of wine. Overall, I would say that the food was very good. None of the dishes were bad and a few were outstanding. The desserts, in particular, were great, Aside from the woman who moved me from the chair, the service was pretty good. The woman server who had lived in California was very good and spoke excellent English. We had some difficulty understanding the other servers. The bathrooms are located on the third floor and are not well maintained. I walked in to 2 different bathrooms in which the toilets had not been flushed. Pretty disappointing for a 2 star restaurant. I liked the food but was pretty disappointed with other aspects of our visit. It definitely was not a 2 star experience for us.

Loved Jungsik! Superb service and well-paced, delicious meal. Came here for their valentine's day menu and the meal started off strong with their amuse-bouche, which was arguably my favorite part of the meal. Of the mains, my favorites were the latter half: the arctic char was absolutely to die for and came in the most delicious emulsion, the black cod was extremely soft and melted in my mouth, the yellowtail kimbap was not only fun to eat but the nori was crunchy and the fish and rice were so fresh, and the galbi was amazingly tender. My only complaint from the mains was I found the octopus to be a tad bit too oily for my preference. As for the desserts, my favorite by far was the chestnut tart. It was creamy, filled with such a variety of textures, filling without feeling overly heavy in taste. A dessert heaven!

I did not know what to expect from a 2 Michelin star Korean

5/5 by 👻 @Cathie P. on 03/03/2024

I did not know what to expect from a 2 Michelin star Korean named restaurant. I couldn't fathom how Korean food could be elevated to Michelin star status. We were celebrating our anniversary and looking forward to an upscale experience. Upon entry, we were seated at a corner table. The decor was understated, clean and elegant. I felt prepared for a refined dining experience. The waitstaff was attentive but not overbearing. We decided to do one alcoholic pairing and one nonalcoholic pairing. A different drink came with each dish on the tasting menu. It was interesting that there were nonalcoholic "wines". The sommelier explained each drink. Although the wines were nice, in hindsight I would probably have opted for a couple of cocktails instead as I clearly could not fully enjoy the entire pours of each wine. The tasting menu had 7 savory dishes and 3 sweet. There were also items you can add at an additional cost. I very much enjoyed each dish but my favorite was the arctic char. We had also noted that I have an allergy to strawberries. There was a mixup which they realized afterwards. Thankfully I was okay but they were profusely apologetic and even brought out the truffle cone (which was on the add on menu) as a service which we were so fortunate to try. Every dish was seasoned perfectly, the service was impeccable and the ambiance was perfect. The only thing I want to comment further is, please do not come here expecting traditional Korean food, usually signified by KBBQ. There were aspects alluding to Korean cuisine, such as reference to banchan which means small side dish, a reinvented version of the steamed egg dish, kimbap, a hint of white kimchi...being Korean, I associate Korean food with hearty comfort foods. We did not leave hungry but this was definitely not KBBQ. Come here to enjoy an upgraded, refined, French influenced tasting menu.

Every year wifey and I try to have a really special dinner

5/5 by 👻 @Joe P. on 03/01/2024

Every year wifey and I try to have a really special dinner for our anniversary and this year, 2 Michelin star Jungsik. The restaurant is named for its founder/chef Yim Jung Sik, and although it is considered a Korean restaurant, the food is unlike any Korean food I have ever eaten. The techniques that are used on dishes like the octopus where the suction cups are very charred and crispy but the meat is so tender and juicy, to the kimpap where the seaweed shell is fried to a hard crispy shell, to the squid amuse bouche that is a ball of absolute deliciousness! We enjoyed every bite of food. I will not bother listing everything we had because i posting the personalized menu they gave us at the end with a list of (almost) everything we had. They did not include the truffle cone dessert that was added or the special sweet creamy dollop that came on a personalized anniversary dish. I am not a huge fan of truffle so I was worried the dessert would be too truffle, but that turned out to be my favorite dessert dish and probably in my top 3 bites of the night. Wife did the wine pairings and I did the non-alcoholic drink pairings. Some of their pours were very generous so I wound up having to finish my wife's drinks. Such a sacrifice ! In addition to the amazing food and drinks, we had an amazing host for the night in Allegra! She watched over us all night and made this dinner so special that we will never forget it! Jungsik deserves all their stars and more!

I had an excellent lunch at Jungsik restaurant. The set menu had 8 courses, and all of the dishes were cooked perfectly. Their amuse bouche and gimbap were stand out to me. I had an opportunity to taste different textures throug five small bites in the amuse bouche set. Each bites had a distinct flavor, such as earthy or sweet. The gimbap was crispy at the outside and soft inside. Combined with the soft rice, the gimbap had a complex layer of flavors. However, I think "New York - Seoul" dessert could be a little bit better by increase the bitterness of chocolate. I found it too sweet for me. Additionally, I love the way tables were arranged. Tables were not so close together, which created a private space for each diner. But overall, I love this high-end Korean food that Jungsik offered.

Great spot for a nice meal - the vegetarian menu was amazing. The carrot cake was probably the best dessert I have ever had.

Presentation and service was excellent.

3/5 by 👻 @Mandy C. on 02/01/2024

Unfortunately for a 2 Michelin restaurant, I'd expected the food to blow my mind but it didn't. It's not that the food wasn't good but there wasn't really anything on the menu that made me feel like the flavors were truly unique and exceptional (except for the pastry that looked like a real carrot). The food was cooked well though - the octopus was really moist. I wish there was more of an innovative experience on traditional Korean dishes but it felt like there was only the soup and the kimbap. Since this was the most I've paid for at a restaurant, I expected the experience to match the price point but it did not.

There were some of the same dishes from the menu at Jungsik in Seoul from a couple years ago. Overall though, we enjoyed almost all of the courses, and portions were definitely enough. We were very full by the end of the meal.

Fine dining, simply amazing

5/5 by 👻 @Ailton007 on 01/03/2024

Service was impeccable, we were greeted warmly and despite being early the table was ready. We booked roughly one month in advance via CatchTable app that is common in Korea. You have to pay the set meal course price in advance but we didn't mind. Every course was delicious and we'll presented, and we ordered a bottle of red wine with it (not the recommended pairing). Spend around 3 hours at Jungsik and enjoyed every minute of it. Seafood dishes were excellent and the truffle wagyu meat course only one of the highlights. An amazing experience

It's nice to find special people. I'm satisfied every time I go... It's a good place to go when you want to gift special Korean food to foreign friends. There are more people visiting at the end of the year, so it may be difficult to make a reservation. Make a reservation in advance and use it~

An excellent michelin modern korean restaurant. Only 1 set menu with some supplements. The slight disappintment was 2/5 supplments already sold out at 630pm Almost every dish was very good to excellent , with great presentation. The gimbap supplement we ordered was very similar to the gimbap in the menu, which shouldn’t be the case Interesting korean teas ended the meal Very good service throughout

5/5 by 👻 @Mara on 09/14/2023

Dining at Jungsik in Seoul was a culinary voyage that blended Korean tradition with contemporary innovation. The restaurant’s dedication to reinventing Korean cuisine was evident in every meticulously crafted dish. The tasting menu was a symphony of flavors and textures, each plate presented as a work of art. The ambiance, with its sleek and modern design, created an elegant atmosphere for savoring each bite. The staff’s knowledge of the menu and their passion for Korean gastronomy added to the overall delight. Jungsik is not just a restaurant; it’s a celebration of Korean culinary heritage, a testament to Chef Jungsik Yim’s talent, and a must-visit for anyone seeking an extraordinary dining experience in Seoul.

Instead of adhering to the typical Michelin faux-pas of overemphasis on avant-garde cooking techniques, Jungsik focuses on taking ordinary Korean dishes and bringing out avant-garde flavor in simple, masterful ways. The service was perfect, the atmosphere was quaint, every dish was delicious, and I fully recommend Jungsik. Absolutely incredible.

I dropped nearly one grand for a party of two here and I

5/5 by 👻 @Mony K. on 03/20/2023

I dropped nearly one grand for a party of two here and I still felt it was worth it.We stopped by for a birthday and WOW, was I surprised by the experience. EVERY single dish was exceptional. On service, it was impeccable, they were attentive throughout the experience. Not just one wait staff, but ALL the staff was attentive. Table was cleaned after each dish, and water was tipped off. Each dish was explained in detail. Can't say enough about the staff, they were all stars. On food, I'll say it again, each dish stood on its own. They were all amazing. I could not find fault with any one dish, even though I searched long and hard. They nailed it in both presentation and flavor. Some dishes looked so beautifully simple but packed nuanced tastes, where your mind expects something, you get something else, and that something else is better than what your mind could conjure up. The flavors were there in its complexity and branding. I don't want to call out any one dish since they were all amazing, but I suppose, the most memorable for me was the 1/ panchan at the beginning with the assortment of small dishes. The traditional Korean soup dish which was elevated to infinity, where I would love to get my hands on the recipe. The experience of eating the hand-roll kimbap, taking ordinary food and making it best in class. The crisp on the seaweed was perfect. And then concluding on the savory with the steak was melt in your mouth delish. The desert, 3 courses of it all were a great conclusion. If I had to be nip-picky, perhaps the drinks (we had 4 cocktails) were on the more expensive side but typical of what you could get in high-end cocktail places in NYC.On decor, it was clean and simple. The seats were comfortable, the utensils were purposeful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant. Bring your special someone here, they will love you.

5/5 by 👻 @Darrell L. on 03/08/2023

Jungsik was on my must-visit list, and I was thrilled that we made it there on my last trip to NYC. The restaurant offers a modern and contemporary take on Korean cuisine, presenting traditional Korean dishes in a fresh and exciting way.Although we left early, our driver had trouble navigating the city, and we arrived 12 minutes late for our reservation. However, the team at Jungsik was incredibly accommodating, and we were warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived. After settling into our seats, I relaxed with a pour of amaro and a glass of champagne, and I felt ready to embark on a culinary journey through Korea. The dining room was well-lit and tastefully decorated, with tables spaced comfortably apart. The service was attentive and personalized, with our server quickly noticing that I was left-handed and resetting my place setting accordingly. They even inquired about my preference for using a knife. The signature menu comprised nine courses, with the first course featuring five modern takes on banchan. Each dish was exquisitely plated and full of meaning, creating a truly elevated and memorable dining experience. We opted for all the items from the seasonal supplement menu, including sea urchin bibimbap, squab, and two desserts. The in-house sommelier was incredibly helpful, providing excellent wine and cocktail pairing suggestions to complement our meal.Overall, Jungsik was one of the highlights of my trip to NYC. The restaurant's modern take on Korean cuisine, combined with the impeccable service and thoughtful touches, made for a truly unforgettable dining experience.

// SummaryWho knew a luxurious and modern take on Korean

5/5 by 👻 @Patrick B. on 03/04/2023

// SummaryWho knew a luxurious and modern take on Korean food would be so rewarding? Jungsik will absolutely blow your mind.// ExperienceI'll be honest - I had no idea what to expect with a more modern, high-end Korean dining experience, especially because I love traditional Korean food made by those Korean grandmas. But as soon as I got the first course, I knew I was in for a wonderful evening. The creativity around each dish was magnificent, as they took traditional Korean dishes and brought them to a whole different level. Each course flowed so well into the next along with their pairings. The A5 wagyu kalbi was simply a taste of heaven. I just remember leaving the entire experience with a joyful contentment.// ServiceAs you might expect, the service was superb. One of the things that I noticed was how highly knowledgeable each person was with respect to the course or the pairing. Sometimes I got one of their sommeliers, and other times it was one of their many waitstaff. No matter who it was, the items were described with a passionate expertise that conveyed how much they wanted you to enjoy the culinary masterpiece.// AmbianceThe restaurant itself exudes classiness - but not necessarily in a way that would make you feel uncomfortable if you came with a simple button-up and nice jeans (but maybe you'd feel out of place with raggedy jeans). It's got that nice romantic mood lighting, if you want to have a great vibe to celebrate something special - or just because it's a Wednesday.// ConvenienceI booked a reservation as soon as I could when I knew I was heading to NYC for work, and I'm glad I did. But I also noticed that I accidentally booked the wrong type of reservation (bar vs. table - their bar seems to be more of the a la carte experience as opposed to the tasting menu). I emailed them to get my reservation updated, and they responded relatively quickly.

If I could give Jungsik 6 stars I would.

This still stands out as one of the best meals I've had and they are well deserving of their acclaim.I came here with my partner for my birthday dinner and their service was just perfect. They noticed my partner is left handed and offered to mirror his cutlery placement for him, which they maintained throughout the night. Their take on banchan was unforgettable. My partner and I still talk about the squid ink ball (pictured towards the bottom of the banchan photo). It was the perfect burst of flavor and we were tempted to ask if we could have more of just the squid ball! Of course, everything else was so delicious and surprising. The octopus, one of their most famous dishes, was perfectly chewy and balanced. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but I loved it. Truly, everything was SO delicious. I barely have anything more to add, simply because each dish was really just that tasty. Chef Yim Jung Sik and his entire team did a stellar job. I will be back!

I think high end Asian food is a massively underrated in nyc. People call Le Bernardin the best seafood restaurant in NYC, but I don't think they have been to Jungsik. I've never had fish as masterfully prepared as here. And I've eaten at a lot of places. The uni, the fish made in this delicate soy sauce, the Galbi... Omg take me back now. Absolutely loved this for a special occasion.

Came here for solo dining on a Wednesday night.

5/5 by 👻 @Elaine W. on 01/28/2023

It wasn't too busy, and since I was by myself I actually managed to snag a reservation the only two nights before! When I got in, they immediately checked my coat, backpack (I had come straight from work), and umbrella -- and throughout the night, the service was great and attentive. Since I had come by myself and it was a less busy night, I think they had a couple waitstaff in training, which was pretty cool to see. As a result, I didn't have just one waiter throughout the evening, but was served dishes by multiple servers over the course of the meal (which I didn't mind, but was definitely an interesting experience!).Of course, the food was the most important part of the experience, and it definitely didn't disappoint! We started off with the fantastic (though strangely arranged) banchan, and I really enjoyed the brioche + beef tartare as well as the egg soufflé, which was cheekily served in an egg shell.I want to list highlights, but every time I start listing them in my head I end up listing almost the entire menu! That being said, I especially enjoyed the octopus, langoustine, and the squab out of the main entrées. Everything was good, but those definitely stood out as the best! The sauce that came with the octopus complimented it very well, and I think I got so excited after the octopus that I forgot to take a picture of the next course (hence why there's no picture of the thornyhead :')). I had been to Jua before I came here, and the langoustine was very reminiscent of one of the pieces that I had had there, with a strong sauce that went perfectly with the fish. I think my favorite was probably the squab, although it's hard to say. I paid extra for this since it was a supplement, but I really enjoyed it, as the meat was super juicy and flavorful and the vegetables and dressing were also delicious.Between the entrées and desserts, they served a persimmon dish as a palate cleanser. It did its job perfectly, with a really light and refreshing taste.Out of the desserts, I really liked the black truffle chocolate (which was super cute and shaped like a pinecone), but I also really enjoyed the "carrot" (carrot shaped white chocolate with carrot cake inside) + salted black sesame ice cream. Again, it's hard to pick favorites, because the hodugwaja was also great. I think the chocolate pinecone stood out because it honestly tasted like a hot chocolate but in a pastry. I didn't feel like the black truffle added anything taste-wise though, which might be my only criticism of the entire meal. One question I saw a few times online was whether to go to Jungsik, Atomix, or Jua. I haven't tried Atomix yet, but there are very clear similarities between Jungsik and Jua as I mentioned above. I would say the flavor profile of these two restaurants is very close, with Jungsik potentially having more nuance(?) in flavor while Jua is a bit more bold. Jua also had more of a "shock factor" for me since it was my first time trying a restaurant by Hoyoung Kim, and really blew my mind -- which resulted in Jungsik not being as mind-blowing because the palate is somewhat similar, and also less bold. If you're newer to fine dining or are on a tighter budget, Jua would probably be a good starting point to see if you want to make the jump. Jungsik is definitely a more elevated experience though, so if you have the budget for it, I would recommend giving it a try, too!
