With so many other great restaurants in LA, this one is overhyped and I would never go back. We went for Valentines which was $300 prefix. Another 100+ on wine & cappucinos, and the final bill was $500. You would expect a great meal and experience for this, right? Wrong!!First, the ambience looks like an empty event hall. There were no aisles for the waiters to travel through so they squeezed past our table on both sides the entire night. Second, our waiter had minimal skills, and with a limited prefix menu, had difficulty answering questions or gracingbys with his presence. Third, the menu itself included options for half bottles of wine, but when we went to order, we were told that was never provided and they didn't want to change the menu after it was printed. They also ran out of oysters - on VANLENTINE'S - before 7pm. And there absolutely is not a pastry chef. The dessert options were grocery store products, either red velvet cake with no flavor and no cream, cheese, or a dried out cute little chocolate heart, again with bad texture and flavor. There are only three courses for $150. You would think they could give you three good courses.

The food is so delicious. Highly recommend the Signature Pot Roast and carrot cake. All the steaks are yummy too. Start with the onion rings and a cocktail. Great atmosphere and lovely staff!

Our table shared, ribeyes, pork chops, corn, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, duck fried rice. Martinis. Every single piece of it was simply fantastic. And super service from Kevin.

Came in once for my birthday, got sat an hour later than the reservation time. I couldn't help but feel that because we weren't as ...distinguished (age-wise) as the other customers we didn't received the same level of attention and warmth since the staff probably assumed we weren't tipping as much. Ah and the food was forgettable. Will get sushi next birthday.

Don't waste your time at this restaurant, very rude and arrogant and the waiters are lazy. No need to doubt what I said, I swear to God, they have no apologies for making guests wait double the time

Honestly, the lighting was so dim it seemed like the waiting staff couldn't even see what they were doing. The ambience and decor could be freshened up for fine dining.

A few years ago, we went to Jar and ordered the pot roast which was absolutely delicious and I have always wanted to go back. With Covid, we didn't go to restaurants and I was so glad to see that the restaurant delivers through Doordash.Saturday March 12th 2022, we ordered 2 pot roasts and we were very disappointed because the meat was tough. It was not at all what we remembered. May be, they don't serve the deliveries as well as the restaurant?Very disappointed!

Jar is an acronym for Just Another Restaurant, which specializes in classic American dishes but elevated. Last night was my first time dining for dinner but it won't be my last. I love how low lit it is and every seat in the house is very comfortable whether you sit in a booth or one of the tables. Our server John was also very knowledgeable, funny, and did a great job. We arrived 20 minutes early and didn't expect to be seated until our booked time but they offered to seat us early and did so, which was really appreciated. They have many great menu options so I will have to come back again to try a few more but this time I started with the Roasted Beets and they were really delicious. There was a healthy size of Burrata with it and the beets were perfectly sweet. For my entrée I chose their signature dish The Pot Roast. It was one of the better ones that I have ever had and eating it with the creamy horseradish on the side is a must. Honestly it's so good I would go back for that dish alone. For dessert I chose the butterscotch Budino because it's one of my personal favorite desserts and it did not disappoint. It was a large portion but still went quickly.Overall it was a really nice dinner and I would recommend to anyone for any occasion. We sat next to a large work dinner, but I think it would also be perfect for a date or a dinner with friends or family. I will be back in the near future.

1st timers, never heard of prior to an OT search, came as both GREAT reviews & looking for memorable gourmet American dinner. And that was EXACTLY what it was.The full owner & chef is Suzanne Tracht, and we got to meet her by accident as we were leaving (she was visiting an old friend of hers near the bar edge). Wow, what a lady & life & DEVOTED foodie & chef & total delight! Our Drinks & both apps & 2 entrees with 2 sides were spot on, A, 100% delicious!!! Only the ccc & sorbet desserts were mediocre & not memorable. The room & building are simple but fun.Def a gem in the sand, the chef owner a diamond. Yummy.
Be the first to ReplyFood was great.
We had the crab deviled eggs and beats for appetizers. Beats were a little bland, the eggs were great. I had the lamb shank with purple yams and my fiancée had the Chicken schnitzel with mashed potatoes. Both dishes were fantastic! Too full for dessert. The only complaint was there services. Started off great, but slowed way down by the end. Also when we needed to go boxes, he boxed ourselves. Given the cost and caliber of the restaurant, I would have thought they would box for us. FYI, no valet, so park in the ally at Nick's. Only $10 cash.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here years ago and the service was terrible.
We were given gift cards for the terrible experience. We didn't go back for years but decided to give it another try. At the end of the meal waiter came back and said can't honor gift card. Said that person no longer worked there and had no record. Manager said chef wouldn't honor it. Ridiculous. Very overpriced underwhelming meal at full price. Now never going back. Food was average and manager and chef attitude very insulting. Who wouldn't honor their own gift certificate? Beware of their bait and switch.

Jar is a Modern American Chophouse that stands for "Just Another Restaurant." However, for me, it is not just another restaurant. Jar is a very intimate, small, and delicious restaurant with excellent service, great food, and great ambiance. When entering the restaurant, I already knew I would have a wonderful time. We had perfect seating, and our waiter, John, and the wait staff were very on top of it, and everything came out in perfect timing, not too slowly but not too quickly. We started with appetizers and drinks. I am all for a White Russian, so that was my first drink, and then for the table, we got a dozen oysters and black mussels. I'm actually not a fan of mussels, but these mussels were really delicious. For my main meal, I got a skirt steak. John recommended that each of us get one side and share for the table. I went with the purple yams, which was delicious! I had never had them before, and I was surprised by how really, really, really good they were. As for dessert, we got three for the table; this included the chocolate pudding, the banana cream pie, and a slice of red velvet cake. I also got a cappuccino because I have to get coffee with dessert. The desserts were a little disappointing; the only really good thing was the banana cream pie. The red velvet cake was really dry, and the chocolate pudding was just blah. Some things to remember:If you're going to head to jar, which I recommend, they do not have valet parking which I did not like. We ended up parking on the street, but we found out after the fact that we could have parked in the garage across the street. If you want to dine inside, you must show your vaccination card and ID. If you do not have it, you can dine outside. However, I feel to get the whole experience of Jar, inside dining is the way to go.

My husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day over the weekend we came to Jar (Just Another Restaurant) 20yrs and it's one of those places that makes there food delicious everything from scratch....yummy fabulous mouth watering appetizers, entrees, desserts and drinks! The scallops and oysters were delicious, the butter lettuce salad perfect, steak and halibut to perfection and the dessert cookies warm melted in our mouths paired with a delicious Italian red wine to die for and a yummy gimlet drink from scratch. Did I mention the fries and onion rings were also fabulous oh Yesssss! and the side dressings to perfection. The service was attentive polite and clean. The ambiance in the room is romantic, clean, business, cocktail attire. Totally will return to this place!

To have such a great restaurant within three blocks of my home is great. The service and food was awesome. The drinks were perfect. Love the decor and the space. I will definitely be back
Be the first to ReplyVery slow service, forgot orders, however ambiance was nice.
However don't recommend coming super bowl weekend.

I really wonder why people are so miserable in there personal lives that they come on Yelp or any social media platforms and talk crap about business that are amazing. Came here last nite on a date before a show and had amazing time and great meal. We had the rib-eye and the fries with a Gem salad the was special last nite . Service was slower then any one would like , but it's not easy hiring people in this day and age , so I'm not going to let that ruin a great meal. And the waiter made up for by buying my date a drink on them. Overall this place is like Hillstone group level of food and vibe. For sure worth a date nite there or just grabbing a meal anytime

Had a lovely dinner here recently and took advantage of the outdoor seating they've created on the sidewalk median and street. Service was very attentive and nice. I personally had the skirt steak which was delicious, along with a spicy margarita (also great). Our table shared a couple of sides: the duck fried rice, Brussels sprouts, creamed corn, and creamed spinach. The rice, corn and spinach were all good. The Brussels sprouts were a bit odd - I am so used to crispy sprouts now, and these were just lightly sautéed I believe. It looked like a salad, but was warm, and overly salty. Overall our dinner was still great, and street parking was easy to find.

Char sui pork chop, duck fried rice and a Jar Manhattan is one of the best meals you can have.

The food was amazing, the salmon in particular had to be the best salmon I've ever had. My husband and I have been to many of the La/weho hot spots and the food here was in line with all of our favs. The service was a tad slow but very friendly and everyone there was down to earth and nice so the slightly slow service didn't bother us. Ambiance is a touch dated if you are really discerning but its still nice and a good solid date spot. My only qualm is that the glasses very dirty! Lots of water stains on every wine glass and water glass.
