Won't Return
Mixed Bag..but won't return. The good is pretty decent house margaritas and they have small to large portions available. The tortilla soup was good. The bad. Slow service. I have never had worse tortilla chips. Like cardboard. My son, who loves beans, took one bite and couldn't eat more. Speaking of families, we were put in a corner that is for families and seniors...not very welcoming feeling to think we all can't eat alongside " regular folk"

We were in Bellingham for a long weekend. First time in years. Tooling around the area, shopping, junking, and Geocaching. Along around 2, we finally decided to get some lunch. I searched the gps, and picked this place. The food was very good, and so was the jalapeno/cucumber 'rita! The restaurant was clean, and clearly popular. For a mid-afternoon workday, it was pretty full. Would certainly recommend!

Worst Mexican food in Bellingham. I worked here. They do not spray nothing out before they put it in the dish washing machine. The food is no good. But drinks come extra full of alcohol. Enough to get you drunk enough to believe the food is good.

I’ll always love Jalapeños. The food is authentic and the service is attentive and fast. We went there in July and felt lucky to be able to dine in for a change. One of the things that has changed is the new surcharges that they lay on their customers. They now charge a “COVID Expense Fee” of $5 per table. This fee is stated and disclosed on the menu. But when they ring you up, they also now charge a 2% kitchen charge, which was not disclosed. We also noticed that the menu is smaller and that some of the prices per dish have gone up. They have the right to charge what they want, but I think that the public should know how things have changed when deciding where to eat.

There are jalapenos in most of the food They have the best sauces anywhere. You have so many choices of things to eat that you will want to go back several times

I usually would give this pace at least 4 stars, however my most recent visit was very disappointing. I have visited Jalapeño's in Barkley since it opened and am not sure I will return. My wife and I had a date night here over the weekend and both ordered Margarita's. I ordered a larger one than my wife and was cut off after finishing it. The bartender told me it was policy. We had been there for over an hour and were not driving. She then told my wife, who is 80 pounds lighter than I am, that she was welcome to have a tequila shot and large beer after she finished her Margarita. This made no sense to either of us, nor the other patron at the bar witnessing what had happened. It turns out the patron is a regular here and he informed the bartender that he also thought it didn't make sense to cut me off, as I wasn't hammered, and then offer my wife a beer and a shot?!? After he told her this, she apologized and offered me a beer. I didn't even ask for a beer to begin with, but she felt the need to tell me I couldn't have any more on her own. We decided to pay our bill and leave to another bar that wanted our business. It's very frustrating to look forward to a date night away from the kids, and hope to enjoy a nice time with your wife, but then made to feel embarrassed by being cut off. I have never ben cut off before, and will never come back to Jalapeño's in Barkley to feel that embarrassment again
Be the first to ReplyBest combo platter in 3 decades!!!!!!!!
Over 30 years ago I frequented a long defunct San Fernando Valley restaurant that served the most enormous, affordable, and awesome Mex combo platters. In the three decades since, I have devoured hundreds of combo platters and not one measured up to the legend. Imagine my surprise at chancing upon a combo platter that in every way is comparable to my old North Hollywood haunt... in Bellingham!!!! Stupendous does not begin to describe it. Everything is beyond perfect from the silky frijoles to the fluffy arroz to the massive amounts of carne asada... it is aaaaaaamazing! Not just the platter but even the extras are spectacular. The pico de gallo is a fresh nectar of Mexican culinary greatness, and the flan is soooooo delicious I licked the plate! Wow! And in WA state of all places!!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyGood food, no service
The food here is wonderful. Much of it appears to be homemade, and you get a lot for a reasonable price. However, the atmosphere is severely lacking. The restaurant is dark and feels stuffy. Sound echoes off of every wall. Customer service is almost nonexistent.

4 tvs. Free chips and salsa. Happy hour. What more could you ask for. Located in a strip mall, expectations were low. But staff made our visit excellent.

We go to Jalapenos almost every time we are in Bellingham. We've tried a number of other Mexican restaurants in Bellingham, including the Jalapenos downtown and none even come close. The food is fresh with very generous portions. Vegetarian friendly as well.
