Freshness and attention to detail reign supreme at this
Freshness and attention to detail reign supreme at this James Beard awarded gem in the heart of Miami's design district.
Be the first to ReplyI'm a bit perplexed where to leave a review as Itamae was
I'm a bit perplexed where to leave a review as Itamae was closed but the owners rebranded this to b-side at the same location. There is a b-side inside 1-800 lucky which I've had a poke bowl in the past. We went for a family lunch to the design district as checked out the Cartier watch exhibit nearby, during the holidays and the outdoor seating of b-side is not desirable but guess they're still figuring out what is next on this space. We had the yellowtail tiradito, chicken karaagae, lost in translation rolls, salmon avocado rolls, nigir set, salmon anticuchera bowls and junmai daiginjo. The quality of the food is very good however they need to figure out whether this is counter service?
Be the first to ReplyItamae was very good, although considering its Michelin
Itamae was very good, although considering its Michelin recognized, I expected a bit more. The ceviche and tiradito was fresh and good, but I have definitely had better. All their ingredients are great quality, it was just taste that was not fully there. If I could give one dish a million stars, it would be the octopus dish - Pulpo Baรฑadito- I would describe it as a giant sushi roll. It exploded in my mouth with soooo much flavor. Would go back again just for that. Although if your not a fan of olives, it is probably not for you. Nigiris were also very good. Menu was also limited, and different from what I saw online so was turned down for some dishes I purposely went to try. Service was alright and ambiance outdoors was not the most desirable either.
Be the first to ReplyThe best Peruvian we've had.
The servers were amazing, explaining all the details of each dish. The ceviche was amazing, and the octopus baรฑadito was incredible. The music was fire too. We will definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyThe Food is absolutely amazing.
The Service always great. The only Thing is in our Sommer Month you can not sit outside in the Heat for this delicious Food. They should have an inside Dining Room. So sad we can not go during the Sommer Heat. Soon we will get for the delicious Lunch. See you soon when the Temperatures are going down.
Be the first to Replyhad thee BEST experience here.
Manny took such incredible care of us, so thoughtfully broke down every menu item, led us to make greatest choices! Every dish was we outstanding and it's own portal truly. We wished could preserve the experience forever. The hospitality was unmatched and I can not wait to come back again to try more menu items ! Highly recommend the octopus ceviche and the masu nigiri - but you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Highlight of Miami trip for sure :)
Be the first to ReplyIt saddens me to give a review like this, but I appreciate
It saddens me to give a review like this, but I appreciate the honesty of reviewers and that helps me when I'm choosing a restaurant. So here goes. This was the restaurant we were most looking forward to on our recent trip to Southern Florida. Read about it on top lists in Miami and it sounded great. Made an early evening rez. Was a little surprised that I could get a rez just 2 weeks prior .... We were seated outside in the courtyard where most of their tables are. Unfortunately shortly thereafter it started to rain, which is apparently not unusual. What is unusual is that the restaurant does not really have much of a plan for this. They moved us and others to the alley in the back, overlooking the parking lot. So much for atmosphere. Luckily it stopped raining and we moved back. However, not an optimal situation for guests. The food, which should be the highlight, was hit and miss. The bluefin tuna dish was outstanding and a great start. The sushi items were good, but outrageously expensive for what they were. The mushroom dish and the scallop dish were both extremely heavy, unappealing visually and overall. The service went from mediocre to horrible. I do not say that lightly. Our server was annoyed (?), irritable, and just plain rude and it got worse over the course of the meal. Shocking at this level of a restaurant and especially when they impose a 20% service charge directly on your bill. We spoke to the manager at the end of the meal (after we had paid) as the service was just THAT BAD. He didn't seem too surprised and offered us a glass of wine, which we declined. We couldn't wait to get out of there.
Be the first to ReplyOk, what can I say about Itamae that has not been said
Ok, what can I say about Itamae that has not been said already? Run, I repeat, run do not walk to get a table here. Would I invent a new category of stars just based on this restaurant? Yes. Would I take all other reviews I've ever written down a star to impart just how FIVE stars this place is. Probably. It was so good that we came here TWICE for lunch during our 3-day trip to Miami. Everything from the fish, to the sauces, to the beautifully, meticulously prepared vegetables was beyond words. You can't skip dessert --it would be criminal. And of course, the service --every single person in the restaurant was so kind and welcoming. Chef Nando --you and your team truly have made something remarkable --It is truly an *honor* to have eaten here.

Itamae was delicious! Delicious fresh ceviche, located in the center of design district. We stopped by without a reservation and we're seated right away. Our waiter recommended some of his favorites and told us the menu is different every week. We started with the bluefin tuna tiradito, cebiche tradicional, a few nigiris and mojaditos. I guess since the menu changes every week, you might not see these on the menu. But they were delicious I am sure they make similar dishes every week that you can enjoy. They only sit parties of 2 or 4 which is so odd to me. The menu is also pricy for the amount of food that you get. Don't expect to leave feeling full as they suggest up to 6 plates for 2 ppl and I am sure they suggest more for a party of 4. I guess it's the design district so charging this much is "reasonable".
Be the first to ReplyEach dish was creative, fresh, and tasted amazing.
Presentation was also great, with friendly service. I was really impressed by all dishes. The ceviche was top quality, the oysters excellent, the tuna tartar also outstanding. I highly recommend Itamae for food lovers.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service and average food.
Not recommended There are much better places in Miami. Closes before 9 pm.
Be the first to ReplyPure class.
Quality ingredients, attentive service, and innovative dishes. Only thing is, maybe a little less salt. From the appetizer to dessert, everything was a refreshing change of pace.
Be the first to Replythe food was good but we were surprised by a very hefty
the food was good but we were surprised by a very hefty bill at the end of dinner. We let the chef pick 2 of our 5 dishes and for one of the dishes he went way above the price of our other picks, adding $100 to the total. Perhaps it's our fault for not specifying strict price restrictions but it feels like common courtesy to stick to the price of the other picks or at least warn us about what was being added.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is very sour and salty.
Like extremely, it gave me the worse heartburn. Looking at the views I expected the service and food to be better but the service was unprofessional and food was average. We were seated outside and it started raining heavily. They offered to move our table behind the restaurant where (it looked ugly and dirty) and also we were still getting wet because of the heavy rain. We asked to sit inside even if it was a bar table but they didn't let us. We ended up leaving before ordering our main courses. Ended up paying over $100 for 2 apps and 2 cups of wine with an empty stomach. Yeah, not going back!
Be the first to ReplyIt was a nice place to try but this is one that I was left
It was a nice place to try but this is one that I was left surprised by the high reviews on yelp. I wanted to be wowed and it didn't have the wow factor for me. It's not a place you leave and say I cant wait to come back. They also forced a 22% gratuity which I didn't like. It's expensive, food was ok and although the service was nice the forced gratuity I am not a fan of.
Be the first to ReplyGot a reservation on a Friday night at 7PM at the chefs
Got a reservation on a Friday night at 7PM at the chefs table a couple days in advance. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we got there but filled up a bit after us. Servers were attentive and quickly cleared our plates and refilled our waters. We got the firefly squid, tuna tartare, stone crab rice, toro nigiri and ebi nigiri, and the mandarin shaved ice. The squid sauce was a bit salty and so was the tuna tartare. We got a free salad which was nice but again could use less salt. The stone crab rice was great and nice and hot. The toro nigiri was our favorite! Ebi nigiri had a lot of sauce which wasn't our favorite but still extremely flavorful. We loved the dessert because of the different textures and flavors. It was creamy whilst being tangy. Highly recommend the dessert! It was nice to sit at the chefs counter and see the chefs cook and browse the beautiful interior! It was also a more formal casual restaurant and you definitely don't need to be wearing fancy things.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is a big WIN for me.
It can be a little weather permitting but totally worth it when you sit down and let the server guide you on a graceful experience staring with some nice white wine. The courses come as it's ready and each dish has its own unique taste. Every dish we had let us ponder about our next visit back. The staff was very pleasant and knew the menu well. Delicious is an understatement... they do have a small sushi counter inside that has a vibe if available.
Be the first to ReplySuper interesting menu and everything was superb.
I loved the blend of raw fishes and Peruvian flavors. We sat on the patio which was nice but also a little incongruous with the upscale vibe of the menu since it's in the middle of an upscale shopping center which felt a bit casual. I went with a group of 4 and this felt like the perfect size because most of the dishes could be easily shared, which allowed us to try more! We ordered the bluefin tuna tartare, Dutch potatoes, octopus banadito, cebiche mixto, squid tiraduto, and a handful of nigiri options and everything was fantastic. This is definitely someplace to go for inventive and great sushi, while also enjoying a more casual atmosphere
Be the first to ReplyWow! Amazing food some of the best dishes I've had in Miami.
We knew it is a highly rated restaurant but based on the seating and tables we were assuming a more casual style of food. We were pleasantly surprised. Everything was really good we'd love to go back and try the rest of the dishes. Food made with love and skill
Be the first to ReplyNot at all what I expected from an outdoor mall spot but
Not at all what I expected from an outdoor mall spot but this place TRULY fights in the same ring with all the Michelin starred bad boys. Fast service + I LOVED the sweet potato that came with certain larger dishes & all the care put into presentation. One weird thing...I do wish there was a usable restroom inside the actual restaurant & not a football stadium's length away. 2 people spent $300 on food & to use the toilets we get sent across a long mall, up an escalator then another flight of stairs. That's kinda crazy. For the humans in heels, I wish they'd let diners use the one inside the restaurant. Other than that, incredible Nikkei.
Be the first to ReplyHot items were not hot.
Generally, flavor profiles lacked balance -- quite often too much acid. To be honest, I have had a better developed depth of umami in a leche de tigre in mom and pop outfits in Miami. I also think such a specific cuisine as Nikkei would be better suited located in some place other than the design center, the home to clueless arrivistes. Then again, my expectations must have been too high since my phenomenal experience with like cuisine in Lima. I really wanted to love it
Be the first to ReplyThis place is ridiculous.
Extremely expensive for small portions. Guaranteed you will walk away hungry. Tip is an automatic 20% but they tell you multiple times that the tip is shared and if you like to give extra tip for service. What!!! Are we really charging 150per person plus 20% plus asking for additional tip. It is really disgusting where service and prices are in Miami. Plus you are seated outside on some uncomfortable chairs. Definitely not worth it regardless how tasty the small bites of food.
Be the first to ReplyINCREDIBLE ceviche! Loved everything that came to our table.
Almost didn't want to eat anything because it looks like artwork. The environment is incredible -- outside among the trees in the heart of the design district
Be the first to ReplyFirst ย let me begin by saying that today was the perfect
First ย let me begin by saying that today was the perfect day to eat at an outdoor restaurant. You can't beat South Florida on days like this. ย The ambiance at Itamae was lovely. We had a table in the shade that was perfect for people watching in the Miami design district. ย And the food was divine. ย We shared three dishes the ceviche traditional, the blue fin traditional; and the octopus baรฑadito. ย All were excellent. ย The octopus, though, was my favorite. It comes as a roll with onions and avocado on top and a sauce that is just scrumptious. ย The blue fin tuna also had a marvelous sauce\marinade and the ceviche was a very tasty grouper. The food, along with a bottle of bubbly made it a perfect way t spend a Sunday afternoon. ย #Design District #Peruvian restaurants #Asian Rest
Be the first to ReplyReally frustrated with this place, because based on all the
Really frustrated with this place, because based on all the hype, I was really looking forward to a great meal. Unfortunately, this is just not the sort of place that can live up to the reputation it's somehow built up.We weren't sat until 30 minutes after our reservation time, which is frustrating but can be understandable given the current climate. We ordered a number of dishes, including the Octopus Banadito, fish dip, traditional ceviche, and the tuna toradito. While I can always appreciate being true to regional styles and cooking methods, it was hard to avoid feeling like all of the dishes leaned extremely heavily into the same type of flavor -- acidic. The seafood used was clearly high quality, but the overabundance of citric acid all but masked any chance of appreciating the cuts of meat. These dishes were begging for a little less sauce and a balance to give your palate a break between bites. No exaggeration, you're going to feel some of these bites in your fillings, that's how much acid there is.The Banadito, which seems to be the crowd favorite, is particularly disappointing. Octopus is delicious, but this is absolutely smothered in an olive sauce that completely hides the flavor of the meat.Lastly, the location is a bit of a bummer. Sure, it's fun to eat surrounded by luxury shops, but there's not even a proper restaurant front that you can go into if you need to, say, use the restroom. That requires a trip up several flights of stairs and into the public mall restroom. After a glass of wine and these four small dishes, we were out over $100 and felt very unfulfilled. Save yourself the trip and book a spot at one of the myriad other fantastic restaurants throughout the city.
