Ironwood Kitchen & Cocktails Homewood Reviews from The Last Year
Service was sufficient.
A bit pricey for quality and portions. Off my list for revisits.
Ironwood Kitchen has lost its luster w/me.
1st off - the positives: still a really nice environment (nice decor & clean), nice servers & believe it or not - most of their menu items are pretty good. Our server brought out the wrong appetizer but was apologetic & offered to give us the 1 we ordered free of charge even though we had almost finished the wrong one. That's good customer service! Negative: menu change. Ironwood K was 1 of a few local restaurants that served "organic" roasted chicken, but they've taken it off the menu. Therefore we ordered a salad for me & a fish entree for my husband. Both dishes were pretty good but not what he went there for & definitely not menu items we would return for. We went to another local restaurant a couple of days ago for their "organic" chicken instead of going back to Ironwood Kitchen. I'll check their online menu to see if it returns... until then - going elsewhere
Ken the maitre d was amazing.
Very friendly service. Good wine and the beans in salmon were fantastic. Nice atmosphere. Service made the night.
Went there for a graduation lunch with family.
Really nice space and they put us on a semi-private room. Appetizers were great - deviled eggs and oysters. Some of the entrees were extremely salty. Service was pretty slow even when the restaurant was quiet. Took us almost 2 hours for lunch.
This places offers a picturesque, modern feel.
We made a reservation but didn't feel it was entirely necessary since there were several empty tables around us. Parking was not the easiest but also not the hardest. It's in the heart of Homewood, so there is lots of street parking but not one huge open lot. Going at peak times might pose an issue. We started with Prosecco and "The Hanger," which is brown sugar coated bacon uniquely displayed on a close line. (15) Delicious. Very uncharacteristic of me (ha), but I got the smoked salmon. It was cooked to perfection - not overdone but had a nice crust. It was on the salty side, even for me. I would've loved a vegetable to balance out the salt instead of capers, which added more saltiness. (28) Friends got their butter basted filet over risotto and had zero complaints. Everything was cooked correctly and the steak had a nice crust as well. (44) We didn't campfire peach cobbler for dessert and LOVED it. Truly tasted like it had been made over a campfire. I wasn't expecting that much smokiness but it was a welcomed surprised. Would definitely get again. (9) Overall I loved this place and will be back! It's slightly on the pricier side but it also has an upscale feel and the food quality was worth the price! Thanks for a great meal!

We stayed at the Valley Hotel and didn't eat here but we grabbed some cocktails which were delish. The bar staff was prompt and efficient. And they have comfy chairs inside to sit and enjoy while we sipped.
Outstanding service, the food was gourmet level.
Super friendly staff, fun atmosphere and great staff. A must

i was on a roadtrip when i stopped by here for a drink and a lil food at the bar late on a monday evening. I've never been to Alabama before. the bartender was kind and friendly in a way that I assume is southern. On the west coast my northeastern sensibilities make me feel aggressive and superior. fuck those californians with their fake niceness and dumb tans, i don't like it. but the southern kindness, when it hits, is sort of just off putting. i don't know how to be friendly like that. Sorry to my bartender if I failed to meet the moment socially, I don't even remember your name, another testament to my cold winter nature. Anyway the tartare was great and i liked the broccolini too. i guess it's kinda expensive but it's pretty much what i was expecting.

We pivoted to here on a recent Friday night after seeing that our original choice was too crowded and are mostly glad we did. The space is lovely so that was nice. Food was decent (if pricey) and service was fairly attentive. My husband got a steak and I got red snapper, both were fine. In fact, "fine" is pretty much the defining word for me here - it's not someplace I would make a huge effort to return when next in town, but you could definitely do worse?!

I stopped by Ironwood one Saturday after a hike because I was craving something new. I was dining solo so I snagged a seat at the bar and was soon greated by a very friendly bartender. She made a really nice tequila sunrise cocktail that was just as potent as it was pretty. I tried the Birmingham benedict consisting of collard greens, grit cakes, bacon, and poached eggs. Overall, this dish was good but salty. I think a dash of spice would've helped even things out. The restaurant quickly filled up with hungry guests during my visit and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. I'd love to come back again and dine on their patio since it was still cold during this visit.
Nice and cozy inside, but the food was lacking.
The bacon app was the only good part of the meal. Between 4 of us we tried several items. My filet was meh, the seafood special was meh, the venison was meh and the salad was nothing special. Drinks were just ok. Service was fine, albeit intrusive - we don't want you at our table chatting us up for 5 minutes each time you stop by.

Yelp! I finally made it to Ironwood! And, I must say, you pretty good. Your Ambiance is spectacular with its clean, sleek but posh vibe. Then, the service! Or should I just say, MR. TOMMY from Ensley Highland's born at Lloyd Nolan's Hospital? Y'all ain't ready for no old HEAD that's A GENUIS with this serving game! How you say it Mr Tommy, EVERYTHING's Good! Lol. Thank you for your wonderful service. We are a party of five! It's girls night out. We getting everything! For Starters there are a couple of orders of Oysters and pimento cheese fritters. The oysters were good, cause they gone. I don't eat those. Fritters were glorified cheese balls, especially if you like mozzarella sticks and stuff like that. Entrees were 2 orders of the porterhouse pork chop with the collards, one with potatoes the other with broccolini. Delish! One chef's special, with blackened snapper and couscous and greens. One Salmon with lentil purée. It was Interesting. Then a veggie appetizer plate with fried green tomatoes, roasted potatoes and greens. Yummy! Greens and pork chop were fan favorites. I love it all. Matriarch ordered dessert, the mandarin shortcake. She loved it. Y'all all ready know, when this stuff is good, I'll be back!

Now that is is November, my birth month, I have trying to come out to the spots I have always wanted to but hadn't had the chance to before. Ironwood kitchen and cocktails has been on my try list for a long time. Finally had the opportunity presented itself on Thursday the night of the day of the dead festival at Sloss. I invited a friend to join me and figured it would be better for us to eat before heading to the festival. Ironwood is the restaurant attached to the Valley Hotel in Homewood. Honestly speaking, it was just okay. A little expensive so be prepared to spend some money while here. But the ambience is definitely something magical. I had a salad and an espresso martini, my friend had a steak, fries and an espresso martini. Both of our checks were a little higher then I think they should have been. Our waiter was barely around, he took our orders then was no where to be found. The food was good, but for the ascetic I believe service could have been so much better. I'm not sure if I will return.
The atmosphere is nice, very peaceful.
Ironwood K+C was one of the only options available for a nicer restaurant on Sundays.. So we decided to give it a try! We came in around 3pm, it was only us and maybe 3 other customers.. we were told that they were not open until 5 but we could have a seat at the bar, which we did. I enjoyed 2 espresso martinis, they were delish! (although a little pricey at $16 per drink, I can't say that I wouldn't pay it again) After about an hour we decided we were hungry and didn't want to wait another hour to be seated, so we did not end up eating here. I do expect we will go back another time, now that we know when to arrive for dinner. (After 5PM*)

My visit to Ironwood was due to being in Birmingham for the Tony! Toni! Tone! concert. My partner made the reservation after shuffling thru a list of Birmingham restaurants. The options for a nice dinner were slim due to not many restaurants being opened on a Sunday in the city. Upon turning onto the street of the restaurant, we were met with the very nice outside patio. The patio had a few fire pits which set the ambiance for nice outside dining. However, we opted to eat inside. The restaurant itself is located inside of a Hilton property hotel and, parking is free unless you choose to valet. After walking through the hotel lobby, you would enter the restaurant. There wasn't a hostess at the stand when we arrived but, after only a few moments one appeared. We are already skimmed the menu before arriving however, the menu that reviews was not the menu that was presented in person. I assume it's due to season; I was hoping to have tried the short rib. For my entree, I will set on trying the chicken and dumplings however, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I went with the Veal which was served with a grit cake, braised greens and, a corn mixture. I really enjoyed the dish and ate every bite of it. I ordered a sidecar for my alcoholic beverage. I'm not quite sure why, but every sip initiated heartburn so, I had to leave the drink on the table. Matt was our server and he provided great customer service. Not quite sure I will be back as Birmingham has a ton of dining options to offer. But my experience was a good one.
My 7th time here and this time I was disappointed.
Bread cold Bacon (although a millionaires type of bacon) was too cold My NEW YORK STRIP STEAK WAS OBLITERATED. I love eating at high end restaurants and never in my life have I had a New York strip steak cut in half. Sliced through the middle like a fish. Maybe the chef couldn't figure out if he cooked it properly but it was more dissatisfying to see it this way. Very abnormal very unusual. I probably won't return after this. Additionally, my cocktail that I've had plenty of times was served in a beer glass. I'm not paying 15+ upward for a fancy cocktail to be served in the wrong glass. It was and is supposed to be served in a coupe glass. Only positives were the dessert and the server (he was sweet).
Just ate here great beautiful place but do not have hight
Just ate here great beautiful place but do not have hight expectations for the chicken and dumplings. My wife did not enjoy it. I tasted it also it was very bland and the manager did not take the whole car yeah OK gotcha I love it. I brought up the convertible like I was I love my wife and I like that for 430 OK Anything is going to go up because nobody likes but it looks nice. He has grown but it didn't have that. Is it you know 6567 and then when they changed it made it like Audie exactly if you group group was team I was younger 1923 so I was hopping in make sure you're OK. Thank you so much. Thank you so much Greg Greg Gregory meal off the check. So it was hard for me to enjoy my group special because my wife was sitting there not enjoying her meal. my friend had the pork chop lacking flavor, but a very pretty place
Awful
If I could give this place less than 1 star, I would. Drinks took 15 minutes to get and the food took an hour to receive; there was only a handful of people in the place! When the food arrived, it was cold and the poached egg I was supposed to get was hard boiled. The waitress apologized and said she would get the manager “to do” something for us…nothing was done. I have no positive recommendation to give.
