Ironside Fish & Oyster San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
It was a good, but not exceptional, experience.
Even though we had a reservation for two, and tables were empty, it still took about 15-20 minutes to be seated. My husband and I ordered the oysters Rockefeller, crab and artichoke dip, and the fish and chips. The crab and artichoke dip was the star of the three. The fish and chips were good too. I liked the oysters, but there was a lot of breading which was a bit overpowering. The food came out slowly, but the waiters were very attentive and checked on us frequently. It took about two hours to have lunch at 1:30 on a Saturday.

We came here with some friends and had an amazing time! We got the Holy Shit tower to share between 6 people and it was amazing!! Also got a few drinks each, ended up spending a fair chunk of money, but felt like it was all worth it! The vibes at Ironside are fun too, including the decor, and the piranha bone wall was interesting. Overall a good time and good seafood!

I don't even know where to start with this review.
We came here for my birthday when visiting San Diego and I can't stop thinking about the lobster roll. Like, what kind of magic is in this lobster roll? If you go here and don't get it you're making a mistake. My mouth waters remembering what it tasted like! We literally loved everything about this restaurant. The ambiance was fun and had a cool vibe, it was lively inside without feeling too loud. The food.... it's an understatement to say everything was fantastic. I haven't been this impressed by a meal in a long time and I'm a foodie. Everything was just so great. The clam chowder fries were super unique and delicious, kind of similar to poutine. The bone marrow was delicious and they were generous with it. I did the martini drink but asked for a dirty martini (because duh!) and how fun is that presentation? It was my birthday, so obviously I had to get it! I would love to come back here next time I'm in town. Definitely a new favorite!

Not bad! We started with twelve oysters: six of the laguna and six of the sapphire. I definitely preferred the laguna but the sapphires were good too. For the entrees, I had the sea bass with the potato rosti and she got the yellow tail with the mixed citrus. I assumed that for being $2 more, the sea bass would be better (the portion might have been larger, I obviously didn't weigh it), but the yellow tail was much more flavorful. So if you're trying to decide between their two local catch options, go with the yellow tail. You'll save a couple bucks and get a better tasting fish. So why not five stars? I can't help but feel like this kind of food is always overpriced. If we didn't start with the oysters, and all I ate was my $39 entree, I would have left hungry. Plus, seafood dishes are just so light and not savory enough for me. If I'm in Little Italy I'd prefer a greasy pizza that would fill me up, but that's just my opinion. I will say this, I thought friendly service was becoming a fictional sea tale! But everyone, from the hostess, to the bartender, to both our servers (since there was a shift change) was EXTREMELY friendly! It was a breath of fresh (and slightly salty) air. Super cool decor and interesting bar seats too!
Very good great vibes and on the pricy side .
Go during happy hour for their 1dollas oysters don't eat to may like I did. I will be back

This place was great!! We went on a busy weekend so the service was a little delayed but the food was great!! I'd give it another try on a not so busy weekend!

THIS PLACE IS A MUST! The service is top tier and doesn't feel forced. The food is immaculate, everything you order will be fresh and full of flavor. Plus the decor and ambiance is a refreshing and unique twist on a seafood restaurant. I believe the menu changes daily but if you like crab and artichoke get the dip. It's so good I wish I could eat it everyday.
Whenever we're in San Diego, we love going to Ironside.
This last visit was another winner with oysters, octopus and the catch of the day, and ending with a pavlova. This time, we sat at the bar and the service there is just as good as when we're sitting at the table. We'll be looking forward to our next meal here.
Great Seafood Experience in San Diego Little Italy
ronside, nestled in San Diego's vibrant Little Italy, offers a dining experience that's as captivating as it is delicious. The menu is a masterpiece of seafood delights, showcasing flavors that elevate traditional dishes to new heights. The clam chowder at Ironside is not just good; it rivals the best of Maine's offerings, delivering a creamy, flavorful taste that could satisfy any seafood aficionado. The fish & chips are a standout, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making each bite a delight. Their lobster rolls are a testament to simplicity done right, with fresh, succulent lobster nestled in a buttery roll that's pure indulgence. For those with adventurous palates, the bone marrow appetizer is a must-try, offering rich, melt-in-your-mouth goodness that sets the stage for the main course beautifully. Service at Ironside is impeccable, with attentive staff who are knowledgeable about the menu and adept at making recommendations. The atmosphere is lively yet relaxed, making it an ideal spot whether you're enjoying a casual dinner or a special occasion. Overall, Ironside in San Diego's Little Italy is not just a restaurant; it's an experience. From the first bite to the last, you'll be treated to exceptional food, outstanding service, and a welcoming ambiance that leaves a lasting impression. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Ironside is a culinary gem worth discovering again and again.
When in Little Italy try something else
We were told the wait was 40 minutes. We ended up waiting an hour and 10 minutes. Totally understand sometimes tables don’t turn as quickly so I could be patient but an acknowledgement would have been nice. We sat down and ordered the small platter right away. 34 minutes after ordering the platter finally came. We did get an apology that the raw bar was backed up with some big orders. We were starving so we did ask for the Greek salad about 20 minutes in and it was brought right away. I will say it was delicious. The platter was ok but nothing outstanding. Instead of ordering main course we decided to cut our losses and go get a slice of pizza up the street. Overall service was horrible, food was blah, and it felt as though there was zero concern with making our experience positive.
Put off.
Terrible service asked to be seated in a table right next to the section that was open to accommodate 4 guests and our dog. They would not accommodate our request and the waitress was rude and said”you do you”. Decided with that type of attitude we were better off dining somewhere else.
Worth a visit, but skip the martini "service"
A really nice time! Great food and staff and the cocktails were wonderful. I would, however, skip the "martini service" as the martini itself is both small AND substandard; sure, the presentation is cute...but for like $30? Insane.
Disappointing food and service.
The ambience was nice, the appetiser and clam chowder were good. However, everything else was super salty. The crab dip, yellow tail, lobster roll n fries were so salty we could not even finish half of our food. What gives? To make matters worse, we brought the matter up to the waiter, and all he said was "sorry" and walked away. That was the end of the matter as far as the waiter was concerned. For a dinner of over $500, I expected more. Inedible food and poor service. What a disappointment.
Best Oysters!
Exceptional food and excellent service. Waitstaff gave us great recommendations and well-crafted descriptions of the food. We had the Phantom Creek and Sapphire oysters, the Japanese eggplant, and the Broccoli dishes. The oysters were the best I’ve had in years (worlds better than some I had ordered from another “oyster bar” a few days earlier), and the veggie dishes were creative and delicious. Highly recommend.
Happy hour $1 oysters are the best.
We also got the chowder fries, one shit on a shell, and shrimp tacos. All very yummy. Definitely worth the trip during happy hour (weekdays 3-5 I think).
Hoppin' place for oysters and seafood.
We got a variety of oysters, which were excellent and fresh. I got steamed clams in a sort of Thai coconut broth. It was excellent. Wish it had more broth! The lobster roll was really decadent and good. The pesto pasta with scallops was also looked tasty.

Wow. The vibes of this spot were absolutely immaculate. It definitely seems like a great spot for dinner and drinks or a special event. We ordered the octopus, fish and chips, and both catches of the day - wahoo and yellowtail - with the pomegranate side. The octopus was delicious, featuring a hearty portion in a creamy nutty sauce. The fish and chips was also super tender, featuring battered rockfish paired with chips. The catches of the day were grilled and honestly a little over cooked for our liking. However, the pomegranate based side was absolutely delicious - my jaw dropped. I personally preferred the yellowtail over the wahoo. The service was a little slow but the food came out super quickly. We also felt like our waiter wasn't the most attentive but otherwise we enjoyed our meal.
Super bad service! The waiters have attitude, inattentive
Super bad service! The waiters have attitude, inattentive and rude! Never going back!
I ordered the swordfish with bone broth and veggies.
The swordfish was cooked to perfection but the bone broth sauce was really the star of the show! Ended the meal with an espresso and banana pudding -- divine! 10/10 all around!
My favorite happy hour place for food and $1 oysters.
I loveee it here. Service and food is always so amazing ! I come here probably every 2 weeks. The freshest oysters. The lobster roll is amazing , great happy hour deals and the chowder is quite nice too ! They have a great array of hot sauces and the decor is absolutely beautiful, consortium holdings always do amazing concepts and service with their restaurants
Absolutely phenomenal.
What a cute setting in little Italy! Loved the oysters and amazing lobster rolls!!! Will be back!
Delicious fish and chips enough to share as an afternoon
Delicious fish and chips enough to share as an afternoon snack! My boyfriend and I loved the inside of the space and we sat at the dessert bar and loved watching all the movement. We spent the morning at the farmers market and took nice long walks through Little Italy. Overall food was good and drinks were just ok.
Service was a bit scattered, but not terrible.
Wait staff and hostess were friendly. Food was terrific! Chef's choice crudo was fantastic. Steamed clams were perfect...I would have preferred some sourdough with it, but their bread was ok. We will definitely be back.
Well…. A miss. Should have been better.
Had heard great things but overall a disappointment for the price point. We were seated at the bar (unexpected but ok) and we sat there for several minutes before anyone came. Then we saw no one for about 12 minutes and had to ask for water and the whereabouts of our drink order. We had reservations do to be stuck at the bar was odd. The clam chowder was slightly salty but was very good. The octopus and clams were also good. The service was slow, uneven, and we felt forgotten about. Wish I could say more but for the type of restaurant they purport to be it didn’t match up with the service we received.
Fabulous late lunch of oysters & lobster with a delicious glass of chilled rose wine!
Really superb late lunch enjoyed at Ironside, an old Iron works building in Little Italy - phenomenal oysters (6 different types to choose from or do as we did and try them all!) and an entire lobster which was very expensive but also very delicious - a one off treat! Save room for dessert - try the sundae fundae - you won't be disappointed! Definitely recommend!
Good food poor service
Food was good. We sat on the street and watched the world go by. Service was poor, drinks took a long time to come and it was not possible to order a second drink before we’d finished eating as we could get our servers attention.
Delicious and fresh
We had an enjoyable evening sitting at the chefs counter/table at this bustling seafood restaurant in busy Little Italy. I was able to make a counter reservation the same day for a Thursday evening spot at 6. Service was a bit slow, and they changed servers after we ordered drinks (and sat waiting for 20 min) but once the change was made, things seemed to go fairly smoothly. We started with a few of the thick and meaty peel-and-eat shrimp doused in an old bay wash and served with aioli -it’s nice that you can order by “the each” so you can get as many or few as you want. No matter how many you get, they definitely “taste like more.” They are so good part of me was wishing I’d just gotten more and some grilled bread. We also split the ho-hum house salad that was very light on the dressing. For our main, sharing the decadent lobster roll with fries was just the ticket. Prices seemed fairly reasonable for a place of this caliber. With a few glasses of wine w and sharing things, before tip was only $114. You definitely need a reservation. We took an Uber from the hotel despite having a rental car and were glad we did as parking is super limited in the area. Recommended
Great seafood platters.
The octopus a la plancha and crudo with daily fish were both amazing. Decor is super cool and service is excellent. Cool place to sample all types of seafood.
Great fish restaurant
Enjoyed some good food. Be aware that they son’t serve any meat. Prices are on the mid too higher range level. Service is quick and friendly

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
