10/10 dining experience truly.
From the moment I walked in I felt transported into a quaint little european town village vibe place. The ambiance was perfect. Service was also so lovely and very attentive, we never waited long while waiting for food or water. Ordered a ton and some not pictured: pulpo, tonno, bikini, tagliatelle, (another pasta with sausage), tarte for dessert. Everything was amazing - it's been a while since I have felt blown away by Italian food but this really did the job! It was a little pricey but worth every penny. I will be back. My favorites were definitely the pulpo, tagliatelle, and tarte dessert.

One of these two stars is for the ambiance, which is truly perfect. The second star is for the Cannolicchi pasta dish. The lack of stars is for service and everything else we ate, including chicken, king crab ceviche, and burrata. The chicken just tasted like someone dumped a bunch of herbs on it and threw it in the oven. There was also hardly any chicken at all on the bone and I still had no interest in finishing it because of its flavor. The king crab ceviche was 10% crab, 90% mixture- do not waste your money on this. The burrata was also very small but it was burrata. The service started pretty well- our server was nice and helpful with selecting our wine. He did forget one of our 2 pasta dishes though and then we didn't really see him again. We had to flag someone else down to see if our third dish was coming (there were 3 of us and only 2 dishes came out). The manager said they hadn't forgotten it and it was on the way... 20 minutes later our pasta came out just around when we had finished eating everything else. They were not really apologetic and didn't offer anything- I told them I'm not paying for a dish that came out after my friends had finished their meals and then they comped it but you really shouldn't have to say that. Disappointing experience overall which is a shame because it's a great space in a great location.

It is RARE to go to a restaurant with such great ambiance, food service and value. $15 for a glass of Prosecco at this caliber restaurant was very reasonable. I felt transported outside of NYC in this very cozy space. Very romantic ambiance at night with the lights very low and candles. The service was impeccable. We always had a full carafe and glasses of water. Our waitress was a pro. The food was simple and delicious. The croquettes and dipper sauce were lovely. The bikini sandwich was delicious but a little over powered by the mozz cheese, couldn't taste the truffle. Also the homemade bread is truly delicious! Note - for party of 2, note a lot of tables are communal so make sure to note if you want a 2 top!
Be the first to ReplyThis is really like a 2.
5, but between 2 and 3 I would lean more towards 3 because of the service from our waitress and the cocktails. It was not on my list of restaurants, but me and the wife were looking for a brunch place with availability that was pet friendly and Il Buco was available. If you are in a pinch maybe give it a shot, but other than that maybe look elsewhere. Ambiance As I mentioned, we came with our dog so we sat outside and cannot really say much about the ambiance. Outdoors was cozy however, and they have heaters too which made it more pleasant. The inside did seem very cozy though when I went to the bathroom. Service The waitress was very accommodating with our dog, which really heightens the experience when eating out with your furry friend. She was not over the top attentive, but gave off a good relaxed vibe. Cocktails The drinks here were really good and the house cocktails were creative. We ordered a couple different drinks from the house menu and they were all spot on. Food Bistecca ($46) This is where things start to fall off a bit at Il Buco in my opinion. We ordered the steak medium well but it came well done. It is supposed to be wagyu beef but nothing about it was anything more special than a regular skirt steak. Flavor was just ok as well. Spaghetti ($30) This was my favorite dish that we ate here. The pasta was cooked very well and the flavor of the sauce with the tuna fish worked perfectly. However, I would say that the dish is rather simple and probably something you could recreate at home and save the 30 bucks. Risotto ($32) Because Infatuation said that this risotto was perfect, we were really excited to order it. But it was far from perfect. It was just very bland in our opinion, and after trying some really good risotto at other places, this would not even be in the radar in terms of comparison. I have a friend who is just a regular home cook whos risotto would blow this out of the water.
Be the first to ReplyThis place has been around forever, it seems.
There is a reason why they have been around; they execute well across the board. The ambiance is cozy and not the modernized bistro styles of today. The food is nothing to write home about but not bad either. I'd stop by again for a glass or two of wine and small bites.
Be the first to ReplyI received a gift certificate for $200.
Tried to use it and was told only $59.55 remained. I paid remainder of bill + tip with my AMEX. Steve, the manager, would only credit my AMEX $129.90 unless I agreed to stiff the waiter $10.55. I told him to give it all to the waiter and confirm that he in fact did give to the waiter. Of course, Steve never wrote back. The food is fine but the management is immoral.

Very quaint and cozy Italian spot! The interior has cute wooden decorations and is dimly lit, making for a great ambiance. The service is attentive and polite. The food was really good as well! We tried the ricotta and octopus for appetizer and both were stellar. For my main, I got the spaghetti, which was perfectly al dente. For dessert, the tarte de pera was nutty and delicious. Unfortunately, we were not a fan of the bomboloni dessert, which tasted like it had been sitting out too long. Overall, if you want a cozy and delicious Italian meal, I would recommend this place!

Be the first to ReplyFavorite italian restaurant in nyc so far.
Unbelievable food - loved the risotto. As good as a risotto can get. Wait staff and bar staff were so friendly and on point. And the atmosphere is quaint and sophisticated.

Enjoyed a pleasant weekend lunch experience, despite slightly busy servers on Saturday. The highlight was undoubtedly the delicious food.

We absolutely loved every food at Il Buco! We were intially concerned about being seated next to the kitchen, but they were honestly super quiet and it ended up being a cool experience! We still had great ambiance in the back room and loved seeing the new menu for the day. Wines recommended were tasty as well. Will be back!
Be the first to ReplyAn extremely authentic Italian dining experience.
I felt I had teleported to a family run restaurant in the heart of Firenze or Bologna.Came here with mom as she was in town for the week. The only res was for outdoor and I was a bit skeptical, but it was a great overall experience. We both got a glass of Chianti and started with the Salumi platter and the Kale salad. Eating with mom is the best because she eats like a mouse, so I essentially get my entree and 93% of hers. I ordered the Bistecca and she got the Torchio. A perfect steak-pasta pairing like Kobe-Shaq, Bonnie and Clyde, Shrek and Donkey, Kobe-Pau, etc...Everything was fantastic and Il Buco has become a goto Italian spot in the city for me.
Be the first to ReplyVery cozy ambience inside and almost always crowded.
They also have an awesome wine cell downstairs that would be perfect for small events like an engagement party. Food is consistently good even though their menu is always changing. Some things are definitely better than others though so definitely worth asking your server what they recommend. Our server was great - attentive and knowledgeable and not overbearing.

Il Buco has been my favorite restaurant in NYC for over a decade and a remains one of my top 5 world wide. It is the place I go for the farm to table rustic Italian food I grew up on in a setting that feels like home. The food is more like you would find in Tuscany than Mulberry street (not that there is anything wrong with a good red sauce joint). As a fixture of the neighborhood, they even host an annual pig roast that feels like a NYC block party.NB: the menu constantly changes to feature what is in season, but the kale Caesar is always on the menu and a well earned claim to fame. Many plates are small-medium size portions so it is best to get a few things from across the menu and share. The Somms are great, as is the rest of the staff if it is your first time or you have questions.
Be the first to ReplyLovely meal with attentive and gracious service.
All of the food perfectly prepared and delicious as evidenced by the clean plates returned to the kitchen. Definitely worth returning.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for a team holiday dinner.
Very cozy atmosphere and great service. Wait staff was very helpful in recommending dishes for the table to share as well as individual choices. Great drinks as well. For my main, I've ordered skirt stead that came out perfectly cooked. I can't wait to come back.
Be the first to ReplyCute, cozy spot with a fantastic wine list.
Went with a friend on a Friday night at 6pm and it was already packed, and stayed that way for as long as we were there.Service was professional and knowledgeable, and the food was very good! We did the olive oil sampler to start which was very fun, followed by the ricotta, and for my entree I had the risotto. Fun fact, the olive oils are for sale at their sister location down the street.Overall, it was a solid Italian spot and if you're in the area, definitely worth checking out.
Be the first to ReplyWe stopped in for a snack since we wandering in the hood.
Il Buco is an institution on the NYC culinary scene; our drop in reinforced that notion. We sat at the bar and ordered the fluke ceviche, fried artichokes and cavatelli to share and the hostess, Jada (?sp) made us feel like we were in her kitchen, offering details on the onerous preparation of the mini artichokes (we asked) and the other dishes. Grazie mille, Jada!!You will never be disappointed at Il Buco with the food and hospitality.

Amazing service, wine selection and Michael the sommelier on the night we dined was fabulous. Food was great, and the atmosphere is warm, friendly and elegant. It doesn't feel like a trendy spot, but a place more focused on their product and customer experience than being "cool". We will return. Reservations are available 2 weeks in advance on Resy and require some dedication.

Really cute inside! Everything we ordered was quite good, but agree with other reviewers that the food is not particularly out-of-this-world spectacular. We made a reservation for 12pm on a Thursday and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. We got the bread basket, tagliatelle with pancetta, pesce, and another pasta dish with mussels (linguini?). Fresh baked breads were really good. Tagliatelle with pancetta and peas was a bit on the salty side, but it was a good amount of food for 4 people. Fish was good but not too notable. The pasta with mussels was good but not mind-blowing. Overall, I can see how it's a cute/home-y/romantic spot (for the vibes) but wouldn't put it on the bucket list per se for the food aspect.
Be the first to ReplyService-one woman in particular was so rude.
We were extremely rushed when picking our food since the kitchen was closing at 3:30, right when we had our reservation. When asked if she had any suggestions so we could help in our decision making she blatantly said "no". Not a good experience for my parents who were in town to visit. Food was fine. Would not go back and will definitely not suggest this place to any of my friends.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing ambiance and great for a good date spot.
The menu changes all the time but the appetizers pretty much stay the same. Right when I walk in I was greeted really nicely by the host and waiter- definitely didn't feel like they were judgmental like other reviewers have said as my date and I are queer and interracial. I totally would recommend the olive oil tasting if you fancy your taste buds being pleasured. I'm huge on tastings so this was an amazing experience for me and my date as for 18 dollars you get really unique olive oils throughout different regions of Italy and a whole two baskets of bread! I would say this is more worth it than just getting the bread basket for 6 dollars. I ordered the crudo and it was really delightful as it's super flavorful and lemony. I love a tart appetizer. We both had the lobster spaghetti and it tasted really fresh and flavorful but not too forward with any crazy palettes so I really thought this was great if it was a sunny day (however I went on a rainy dark night haha) I have to shout out my waiter Michael as he made our night really worthwhile and sweet!

We sat outside which had a bunch of heaters and was actually a little too warm but it was a nice vibe. We got the octopus for appetizer which wasnt bad. The tagliatelle which was supposed to be truffle flavored didnt have any flavor at all besides butter. We asked for pepper and parmesan but not sure if it's worth the price for no flavor. The risotto was good but also tasted better with pepper and parmesan. For dessert, we tried the olive oil cake which was okay but tasted better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that we added. They change the menu here every day so would maybe consider coming back to try somethjng new.
Be the first to ReplyI made a reservation on a Saturday night for my husbands
I made a reservation on a Saturday night for my husbands birthday. The only spot available was "outside " so I booked it and watched the weather. It's March so it could have been cold or Ok. It looked like it would be cold so I called the restaurant to ask if the outside area was warm enough to enjoy on a very cold night. ย The hostess on the phone assured us yes it's very warm and enclosed. ย So we didn't change plans and went to the restaurant. ย It was clear when we walked up the outside area would be a problem. ย The sides have plastic sheeting that was flapping in the wind. ย There were no blankets, and huge gaps in the plastic. People were huddled in their coats. The hostess at the desk couldn't have cared less when we went I and explained our situation. We've been coming here for years. Terrible attitude and service. ย Won't be going back.
