A special mention for Ksenia on the front desk
A lovely stay made extra special by the efforts of Ksenia on the front desk who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Thank you very much, James & Anastasia. P.s. If you like horses, this is the place for you - they have so many and we spent hours walking around the extensive equestrian facilities that are on-site.
Be the first to ReplyThe construction is super flimsy.
We are at Il Borro right now. The construction is super flimsy. We can easily hear footsteps, peeing, and flushing from the room above us. The footsteps sound like thumping. Very loud and highly unsatisfactory, all because this place is cheaply constructed and poorly insulated.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful, private and secluded resort in Tuscany
Where to start…this place is beautiful and amazing. If you want to be in a quiet, secluded medieval village in Tuscany, this is the place. It is very old. But the place is so updated and kept in the period. Upon checkin, we were given a map of the resort. It looked overwhelming at first, but a quick tour of it fixed that. The service you will receive is the best. Be prepared for lots of steep hills and steps. If this is a problem, a golf cart or car will pick you up and take you where you need to be. Our room, which was Marta Terrazzo, room 108, was OUTSTANDING! It shares an entry way with one other unit. First room you enter is the living room with a log burning fireplace, chairs, table and a wonderful coffee machine. A nice window there too. Next is the bedroom with a king bed with the softest pillows. In this room there is a tv, a window and a door to your own patio! Private! Heading toward the bathroom you will have a walk in dressing closet and safe. Lots of places for clothes. Then the bathroom which was really pretty. It was the largest shower ever and it provided a great rainfall. There is a window there too. All of the windows and the patio door have not shutters but inside are swinging panels to block out the light. I’ve never seen anything like it. The property is lovely; there are horses with their babes in a few pastures. Breakfast is ordered from a set menu or the buffet. So many cheeses, meats, breads, and many other things to eat. Coffee is always really yummy. Dinner was great as well. Ate outside one night. Two nights inside. Pretty pools, not heated though. The wine cellar is unbelievable. Their own wines are made there and the tour was outstanding. Some Bottles start at $30 euros and we’re great. We drank so much wine. 🍷. Our guide was Sophia. She was awesome and so knowledgeable. The cooking class was fun, but the price was way too high for what we did and got. You make your meal with a group if you chose that route, and then later in he evening you eat what you made in the main dining room. Our dinner was potato gnocchi with a cheese sauce, meatballs in a prepared red sauce, and biscotti. It was really tasty! One night we left the property and had a dinner down the road to the left. That was great as well, a family owned place. Osteria dell’Oca Satolla, it is the only place near the resort. If you want to get around you need a car. We visited Arezzo, which was a quite nice little city maybe 45 minutes away, and Loro Ciuffenna is 15 minutes away and a cool little local town. Very hilly everywhere we went. We are glad that we stayed here. I have to say at first we thought, oh no what are going to do here? It was absolutely wonderful.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous Tuscany stay at Il Borro
Our 3 day visit Il Borrow was amazing!! Loved that our two rooms were located in the medieval village area as it truly allowed you to feel apart of the complete resort. The rooms were charming and luxurious along with the baths, towels and linens. The pool down below our room was beyond spectacular from the pool, the view and the service! Breakfast was great, we ate a few nights at the more relaxed restaurant as we had teens with us and that is the food they would enjoy. The walk up bar next to that restaurant and spa was so welcoming and fun as you could grab a drink and choose a nice spot in front of bldg or by the spa pool. Be sure to walk around and see it all, my pictures are amazing just by walking grounds. Also be sure to go to all the quaint shops, visit the chapel with the shroud, the “live” nativity next to the concierge and Pinocchio’s interactive by stores. So much more I could say but if you are even thinking of going do!!!

Spectacular property and amazing staff. We booked Il Borro through the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts program and so happy we did. Room was upgraded to a one bedroom apartment. Breakfast buffet every morning included was a treat with a wide variety of fresh sweet and savory options. We used the property credit for massages and day spa. Cocktails by the pool every evening for sunset was stunning. Marco helped us set up a private full day tasting of Brunello wines in Montalcino, and also a tour and tasting of Il Borro’s wines, which, given how young the winery is (1990’s) were some of the best of the trip. Il Borro sparkling rosè was my favorite wine across our entire 10 day trip to Italy. Finally, my husband needs to eat gluten free and the entire stay was a completely seamless and high quality experience for him.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful property but disappointing food
We stayed at Il Borro for three nights in September as part of our honeymoon. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay - the property is very pretty, staying in the “medieval village” was fun (if a bit kitschy at times), the staff were great, we loved the pools, and we had a great time doing a number of the activities on offer (horseback riding, vineyard tour, and “wine and art” tour). There are two areas preventing me from recommending Il Borro as a “must stay” in Tuscany - (1) Our room was a let down for the price. The bed was very comfortable, but otherwise the furniture seemed dated, it was oddly laid out (e.g., no table or desk), and was very dark (2) The food at the Osteria was disappointing. It was a beautiful dining experience visually - both the view and the presentation of the food - but the food itself was underwhelming and lacked flavour. We found the food at the Bistro (the more casual restaurant) much better. I would recommend going off property if you are looking for a special dining experience Overall, a lovely hotel with a lot to offer - but we’d probably try somewhere different on our next trip to Tuscany given the two points above.
Be the first to ReplyBest service and most beautiful place
The hotel is amazing It starts from the place itself which is breathtakingly beautiful The service is amazing really like nothing else. Everything is truly excellent I recommend you to do a Horseback riding, an experience you won't forget. And you MAST! Eat at the Ostria restaurant , the food is WOW and the somalia will make it a AMAZING experience you will remember!
Be the first to ReplyIncredible in every way!
What an outstanding experience! The property is spectacular, the rooms wonderful, the staff could not be more helpful, the food outstanding! We did a wine tasting and it was fabulous! We were only there 2 nights and all of us wish we were there longer!
Be the first to ReplyIf you love Disneyland, you will love Il Borro
Everything Italy you want all unauthenticly presented, right down to a Pinocchio room. Very disappointing experience. The Italian village like display of shops and churches were all very fabricated. A visit to nearby Cortona is recommended
Be the first to ReplyGorgeous Tuscan Resort!
We had an amazing time at Il Borro. Such a beautiful, relaxing resort that has it all! We LOVED relaxing by the pools, had a wonderful wine tasting & tour experience with Sophia and thoroughly enjoyed every meal we had at Il Borro. We would definitely stay again!
Be the first to ReplyA truly wonderful place to visit
This is an absolute gem in the heart of Tuscany close to Arezzo, which has to be experienced by anybody enjoying beautiful surroundings and excellent wine and food. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the wine tour is something not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplyA mixed bag
The property is spectacular. The food, staff and view at Tuscan bistro the same. Activities are nonexistent. Golf is like playing the worst municipal course you’ve seen. Beat up equipment, old balls, no tees. Concierge doesn’t follow up. The website talks about classes of various sorts but they don’t really have them. The painting class for kids is a tracing and coloring class taught by a very nice woman completely in Italian. Of course it’s fine that she doesn’t speak English but perhaps they could have made that clear in advance. It’s a beautiful place but not an easy place to stay or enjoy. There are vast distances between spots that can only be traversed by car. To reach our villa, for example, one had to drive out of il Borro, through the town and to an olive grove. Then down a gravel bumpy road for quite a bit. We got used to it but to illustrate the inconvenience- when breakfast came 45 minutes late the second day and there was no coffee, it just didn’t make any logistical sense to call and have them bring it back out. This place is best for a very short stay when you are in the mood to do nothing but sit by a pool, soak in great views and eat. Do not rent villa casetta without going into it with the mindset that it’s like Tuscan glamping. Finally I note that Maurizio at Tuscan bistro wins the gold star for service - and that restaurant, while less fancy than their Osteria is the highlight.

We thought this property was incredible at this price point. We have stayed at other Italian resorts. This was a very pleasant surprise. The Borro rooms are unique but extremely comfortable.. we took advantage of the courtyard adjacent to our suite to enjoy the local wines every afternoon.
Be the first to ReplyA poor excuse for a Relais & Chateau property.
This overrated resort is a Ferragamo property. It is set in “the heart of Tuscany” surrounded by 1000 acres…and nothing else. From our entry into the Reception area, it was a mass of confusion and jumble. The decor is cold and uninviting. Contemporaneously a Bollywood movie crew, replete with actors, suitcases, photographic equipment and bodyguards, swept into the reception area. We were quickly ignored. Fortunately they were there only for lunch. Two days into our stay, a large group of 55 people were added to the mix. Lunch and dinner reservations were hard to come by. They dined en masse and that complicated matters. Our suite was about 2km from the central bar and restaurants. To get from one building to another, one has to call for a Fiat Panda with driver and wait…and wait. It is even difficult if one has a car, as many of the streets are narrow. Our travel agent communicated with the management and we were moved to a different suite in the “Borgo” section of the hotel. It was closer and within walking distance. However at night after dinner, one had to wait for a car to return to our suite perched high in the medieval borgo. The small cars are dusty, uncomfortable for anyone over 5’. The resort is poorly planned out. It is not a walking-friendly environment. The food is mundane and flat. The chefs imagination took flight with disappointing results. The bar has a moderate stock of liquor. In the main restaurant, one cannot order a liquor that is not Tuscan in origin. In other words, if one wanted a scotch while at dinner, it wouldn’t be available. There is not enough staff to accommodate the guests. If the pandemic winnowed out the staff, the management should have turned away large groups of guests. In summary, service in every area was wanting. It is a non-return-to resort.

Il Borro is a beautiful wine estate in Arezzo, Tuscany. The hotel is located in a sprawling estate with fantastic walking trails and leisure options. Our check in was smooth and comfortable, the room assigned was beautiful. Amenities were of high quality, housekeeping did a great job during our stay, keeping the room clean and tidy. Great bed and sleep quality. Breakfast at the hotel was excellent, with plenty of options for various dietary requirements. Food and beverage options at the property are fantastic. I'd recommend contacting the hotel in advance with any requirements of the stay and just to check all facilities are operating to avoid any disappointment once you arrive. Luisa and the team were great with service, a special mention to Rachella whose service and hospitality was excellent.

One of the most royal chateaux estate property feels, an individual can experience in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, excellent food, bar none hospitality. Our suite was huge and excellent rooms.
