Ichiran is one of my go to spots for ramen! You can customize the noodle texture, broth and even the toppings. I came in shortly around 3pm and surprisingly had a good amount of customers. There was no wait for a party of 4. My go-to is everything that was recommended. The food comes out pipping hot too! You can request for more noodles, order dessert and even a ramen kit to go. That's exactly what we did. We ordered the ramen kit to go, paid upfront but it did not come immediately. We had to let the staff know twice that we brought it and still never came. Eventually they came with an iPad to confirm the credit card used on the order. Mind you they do not give you a receipt. After another 15 minutes, the ramen that we brought to take home was finally given to us. Minus one star for that. Overall, I will be back but I would order the ramen kits outside of the seating area. They have iPads to order when you walk in the restaurant.

Visited NYC over the weekend and Ichiran was the first stop after a long four-hour bus ride. Also to note, it had been a cloudy and windy day. Upon arrival, we were able to quickly order from the tablets and promptly seated. After only a few minutes, our ramens were ready and that first spoonful of piping hot porky broth (omg), it really hit the spot. Then mixing the green onions and sauce together was the crème de la crème and enhanced the broth flavors. The first slurp of noodles had the perfect chewy bite, and the soft-boiled egg and chashu balanced everything very well. We have decent ramen in DC, but I loved this bowl of ramen.

Don't be scared by the long line, it moves pretty fast and definitely worth it! We tried both ramen (classic tonkotsu & veggie). Both amazing, from the perfectly cooked noodles to the rich delicious broth and toppings it was a bowl of perfection. Great experience sitting in the focus booths too. Be sure to double check the spicy level when you order as the "recommended" might be too spicy for most. The matcha pudding at the end was nice and refreshing but maybe wouldn't order again for the price
Be the first to ReplyI like the idea of Japenese style seating.
Individual booths separated by a mere piece of wood. It's an introverts dream, honestly. Prefixe style menus help with what to order. I paid about 30 dollars for a tonkatsu ramen with extra toppings. The noodles were very fresh to order, but the broth could have been a little richer for my taste. They have you select the desired spicy level and richness levels, so I guess I should choose better next time. I went with all the recommended levels for my first time. The service was nice, quiet, atmosphere very simple and clean. For the price I paid very much worth it. Easy order style, order up front and pay, then be seated to get your order.
Be the first to ReplyTheir ramen absolutely delicious.
I loved it. We got to go and the worker at the front was so nice. Their restaurant is single seating only like in Japan. After coming home walking for about 30 minutes and rewarding everything up in a stove pot it was so delicious. Can't wait to come again and try in dining.

Incredible ramen, the best we've ever had! We were visiting NY from California and Ichiran was highly recommended as a MUST visit. We walked the 1.1 mile from Hyatt Grand Central and it was so worth it!

This was my first time going to a single serve ramen place, and I loved it. Everyone could just focus on the bouncy noodles dunked in perfectly flavourful both. Who doesn't love that! As it's a single serve restaurant, the wait time was a lot. We waited for 15-20 mins, if not more, before we were allowed inside. We placed our order at the counter and then were let to our booths. We got a veggie ramen bowl with medium spice level, and that too was spicy! But we loved it. The food, the whole experience- definitely something I'd recommend. Especially if you eat pork, try their house special.

First time eating here and you can customize the chewiness of the noodles or thickness of the broth and pay first then get seated down. Got the tonkatsu with the toppings in medium spice which came out to be $30. Self serve water Tonkatsu was light and clean and the noodles were chewy which I liked. Overall it was good and service was great
Be the first to ReplyTastes just like the Ichiran in Tokyo.
The only downside is that the toppings set will run you $30. The flavors are amazing and the noodles have the best texture. You are also able to customize your broth & noodles to how you like. Came on a Saturday afternoon (4pm) with a party of 4 & we got seated after 10 mins. As we were leaving, there was a line out the door. So come early! The place is also very clean & have a lot of hooks to hang your things.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is absolutely amazing.
I will definitely be coming back. The wait is a little (because of how delicious the food and experience is) bit long depending on when you come, but it's worth it in the end. The broth and noodles are amazing. If you order meat the meat is really soft. The matcha pudding is delicious as well and is perfect after eating your ramen. The staff is really kinda and helpful if it is your first time at the restaurant and are just overall really nice. It's really clean inside and a really nice well decorated restaurant. I definitely recommend.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for Monday lunch around 1 PM.
There was a small line, but we didn't have to wait too long, around 10-15 minutes. I got the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen, with everything medium except the saltiness level (less salty) and spice level (spicy-2). The broth was really flavorful and well made. Char siu was tender and not fatty. We had a group of 3 so the experience was interesting since we were all sitting side by side separated by the cubicle walls. I would recommend this for 1 person or maybe 2 people. The ramen came out to be about $24 for one person - which is expensive for a meal in general but seems to be the average cost for a good quality ramen. I think it was worth it but I wouldn't be coming here all the time.

I heard about this restaurant years ago online but only thought they had locations in Japan. Come to find out when I'm planning a vacation to New York that there is one here! It was my first stop here and it was the most amazing ramen I could ever eat. I don't know how I'm going to go home without trying to have it once more. The employees are super nice and the restaurant itself is clean and larger than it looks. I'm so sad that there aren't more locations outside of NYC

Come for the experience, but don't expect a mind-blowing ramen. I think this place gets hyped up a lot and so I was disappointed once I found out it was only a little above average. It's nice that you can customize, but really if you're from any city with decent ramen that's a pretty normal expectation. However, the experience of the individual-like dining areas is pretty neat.
Be the first to ReplyFood: my favorite ramen in the city.
Get some extra spice than their recommended for a bit of a kick. You can do without the $7 "extras" and just get their regular ramen. Service: after getting through extremely long line, the service is very quick. This is well oiled machine. Ambiance: come here with maximum one other person. This is a great place to dine alone as the seatings are all for individual people (though you can sit next to each other).
Be the first to ReplyWow best ramen I had in nyc.
..had it in Kyoto and the quality remains the same! Are you ready to pay $30 for a bowl of ramen?? Not supersized bowl but a regular bowl. I love how you can customize it to the way you really enjoy the ramen but maybe like everything else adidas shoes etc you have pay more when you get to customize. The line at 6:30 was atrocious. I went the next day for lunch and it was a lot better. The seating is the same as what I had in Kyoto with the wooden curtains. I felt that they could probably fit more people in the restaurant but I guess again after covid hiring constraints. Big sign in front of the door hiring. Yes the hourly pay is less than the bowl of ramen that they sell overall if you don't mind paying and you are like the people that I was sitting next to you can take the soup home and use your own noodles at home.

We came for the first time on a Friday night and really really wanted to love Ichiran since we've heard so much about it. Wait was about an hour outside (we came at 8pm and were seated around 9). Loved the ambiance and the privacy of the individual booths - it was definitely a unique experience. Unfortunately we found the ramen a bit lacking. We were disappointed that the ramen came very with little toppings (two pieces of char siu and a spoon full of green onions). We didn't realize ordering extra toppings was so necessary. Compared to other places, this felt too pricey at $22 a bowl compared to other places that are cheaper and include more toppings. The broth itself was good but nothing too special. They use thin ramen noodles and we personally prefer thicker ones but these still tasted fine. The service was super friendly but felt a bit slower that night. Overall - a decent ramen place but it didn't seem worth the one hour wait and the hefty price tag.

Ichiran is my favorite ramen chain from Japan and the standard carried pretty well across the locations. This location is fully individual cube seating, which I guess works out for the fast-pace NYC; also right by the Penn Station, so good as a transit meal ;)My favorite part of Ichiran is the ability to choose flavor- broth saltiness level, grease level, garlic/scallions or not, spice level, noodle tenderness, etc. Tonkatsu broth is usually too salty for me so able to make it less that is perfect. One point off is on the noodle texture, I ordered firm, but it came a bit doughy and mushy... When ordered firm in Japan, it was not undercooked (with the doughy sticky texture), but just al dente. However, even for NYC price this is overcharging for the quality and material - $22 for a base bowl with 2 thin slices of pork, no egg, no veggies, and $7 extra for topping set (one egg, 2 thin pieces of add on chashu, 2 nori, a few mushrooms and scallions), $9.5 for the small matcha pudding and $6 for a cup of green tea!
Be the first to ReplyThe staff at the restaurant were amazing and very kind.
As someone who enjoys solo dining and self-guided eating, I really loved the atmosphere of Ichiran. Not to mention, I appreciated that the food and service were efficient despite coming during lunch rush. As much as I wanted to leave a tip, I couldn't due to their establishment policies. I just love how kind the staff was! However, this is on the pricier side.I really liked how Ichiran allows customers to adjust the oil, spice, saltiness, and noodle density (firmness and softness) of their meals. The portion sizes were also great, and the ramen was very flavorful. I followed the recommendations and selected the suggested intensity for everything except for the oil, which I selected 'light' for.The soup base was already delicious, but I loved it even more when I mixed in the 'hiden no tare' to give it a kick. The medium spice level was just right for me. As I had requested, my dish wasn't as oily as most ramen dishes tend to be - I'm really happy I selected this option. The tonkotsu was cooked perfectly, such that the meat was very tender and soft. I also ordered kikurage mushrooms on the side, which were a great addition. It really added texture to my dish. Although the soup base was slightly saltier than I preferred, it was still enjoyable. Next time, I'll go for a lighter option. Overall, it was a great experience, especially for introverts like myself. I will definitely be returning as soon as I can!

It was a frigid Sunday, so naturally my stomach decided that ramen was the choice. I have been to a few of their locations back when I was in Japan (light flex for the day) and it was the best bowl of ramen I've had. It became clear I had no choice but to make the long, treacherous excursion from Alphabet City to Midtown.I zip-up my down jacket and put the hood up. A hero's journey. After an eventful 2.2 mile walk, I am greeted with a long line outside. Personally, I welcome a line as anything worth having is worth waiting. In line, an employee greeted me with a smile and a clipboard with a sheet of paper in which you mark what type of ramen you want and if you want any additions or subtractions. They have their house recommendations which is what I went with. You fill out the sheet and once you get in, an employee will direct you to an open seat. The seats are essentially individual little cubbies, think of the little dividers you would put up when you used to take tests in middle school. As an enthusiast of solo dining, Ichiran is OPTIMAL. I am currently working on a non-fiction novel titled "Table for One" in which I highlight all of the benefits of solo dining and how it will drastically improve your overall quality of life. It's important to be okay with spending time with yourself. Or maybe it will be a fiction novel, still deciding.Anyways, you hand the piece of paper to an employee behind the little bambo divider, and your ramen comes 7-10 minutes later. Ichiran recommends taking a few sips of the broth before diving in or mixing it up. I too, recommend this. The noodle texture was perfect, and the broth is neither light nor heavy, which to me is the perfect balance. Best Ramen in NYC I don't even care.I also am not a beer guy, but I got a beer. I'm not really sure why. Can't stop the spirits when they need you I guess.

I arrived on a cold, windy day with a coat hanging down to my ankles. I was one of the first in line as the restaurant was opening. I came with high expectations, and I walked away being more than satisfied. I studied the menu and reviews before I arrived, as any Yelp Elite would. I circled extra rich broth, medium spice, scallions, and firm noodles. Within 10 minutes, my bowl arrived and the curtains dropped. I took a sip of the broth and it ever so slightly burned my tongue- a good sign. I grabbed some noodles with my chopsticks and excitedly slurped them. The firm noodles were perfection. The more I ate, the better it tasted, and the broth was the perfect temperature from start to finish.I've been craving this bowl since I've returned home to DC. I will be back in June. See you then, ICHIRAN.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the most extraordinary restaurants that I have eaten
One of the most extraordinary restaurants that I have eaten at. I heard about this place through videos and was excited to give it a try. It's a ramen restaurant, where you get your own booth and there's no one to bother you. This is the perfect place for introverts! I came right as they open, but expect to wait if you go at a later time. The host will give you a number and piece of paper that explains how the process works. Once you are seated at your designated spot you will fill out the ramen preferences and a person from the other side will get your order. If you need further assistance you're welcome to ring the button on the table. They serve only one type of ramen - tonkotsu, which I customized to be spicy. The ramen tasted great, the noodles are fresh and the broth tasted amazing. Also, for an additional $5 you can add the other toppings they recommend. Overall, I had a great experience. My only complaint was that the workers were a bit loud and I had to peel my own egg. It took me a while to peel the soft boiled egg. I would definitely recommend everyone to try this restaurant at least once!
Be the first to ReplyI have always wanted to try one of these ramen places but
I have always wanted to try one of these ramen places but I've only seen them in Tokyo. It's known for the private booths. We came around 10 mins before they opened and we were the 3rd people to get in. So definitely come early. The ambience and the place was very unique. There are hooks for you to hang your coats behind you and there are hoods under your booths. Very convenient. The only thing is that I expected the booths to be more private but you could definitely lean into the other side or hear the conversation of the people next door. I chose the recommended options on the menu, but you can chose to your liking. I also did the additional option which was $5 and it included seaweed, more pork, mushrooms and hard boiled egg. I didn't expect we had to break the egg our self, but it was quite the experience. The texture of the noodles were firm and delicious, the broth was very savory. I didn't add any spice but I would recommend you do to have a little kick. For one person it was $27. If you would like the extra items I recommend you add it, but however it was not needed, there was more than enough food to eat. Overall, I loved it. The ramen was delicious. I would definitely come back!
Be the first to ReplyNot my favorite ramen in NYC.
I prefer Ippudo. This place is kind of a novelty because they have the little individual booths that you sit at. Not the best atmosphere for socializing, but it's perfect if you're by yourself. The ramen itself is a little expensive. I was also slightly annoyed that I had to peel the soft boiled egg that I ordered. It made a bit of a mess. Still, the hot ramen hits the spot on a cold day.
Be the first to ReplyHi. I've been to Ichiran in Tokyo and Osaka locations.
Hi. I've been to Ichiran in Tokyo and Osaka locations. They are the original Ichiran. Their ramen were excellent so when NYC opened their site, it's a must try. NYC midtown site was great, service was good, hygiene was good at the table. Reason it's not 5-stars was poor hygiene in the bathroom. The kitchen and bathroom are my precautions for hygiene overall. Overall, glad they are here and grateful but there is still room for improvement. Ramen size was standard, less than Japan serving size. Texture is a personal preference, I went with recommended. The egg needed a little work. It was more well done than I would like it. Then again, eggs are handle differently in USA vs Japan. That's a different issue and another conversation. Cha su (pork meat) was well done and not over dried; it was good. This location did not have the water faucet at each booth, it was at a shared location for you to get your own water. (-)Overall, worth going again.
Be the first to ReplyI'm no expert but I haven't had ramen that good since Japan.
Glad I was able to get a taste! I love the individual style of the meal. For all of you shoppers, good news! They have loads of places to hook purses, coats, everything I ended up needing after a day of sightseeing! Y'all know what I mean! Anyway, it's a tighter space so if you're not a fan of New York sizes, I would search for somewhere else. Thank y'all for the experience.Love,Apple
