We decided to go to Hy's since they were closed due to renovations for the last 6 months and we wanted to check it out . We're glad the renovations kept the same ambiance that was there before and the major improvements were made in the kitchen. Unfortunately, timing was super off. They offered us the cheese bread and it came at the same time as our appetizers. After 35 min we got our steaks, and out of 3 only one was good. My steak was cold and my wife's was totally raw even though she asked for medium. They took our orders back to kitchen and 20 minutes later we got our food delivered. When you have an average ticket per person around $180 since they increased their prices by 25% to 30% you have to make sure everything gets done properly. I believe if I was a manager in charge and I see food going back to the kitchen because they were not up to standards, I would go to the table to make sure things were addressed properly. We've been going to Hy's for many years and this last experience was very disappointing and we don't want to have the same bad experience again so we will think twice before we go back until they get their food and service back on track.

Came for a special dinner collab with my credit card and Hy's. It was a prefix dinner and everything was amazing! Each course came with a special cocktail. I've never been to this Hy's before, but heard it was recently renovated. The interior is cozy and lighting is perfect for that steakhouse vibe. The servers were great and attentive throughout the meal. I will be sure to visit again!

Hy's recently reopened after going through a dining room renovation. We've been coming here for years to celebrate special occasions and have always had a memorable and enjoyable time with amazing food. Sadly, i feel like too much had changed here and not for the better. My husband and i decided to celebrate our 10 year anniversary here. I specified that in our booking on open table. In the past, special celebrations would always get a complimentary slice of cheesecake. When someone called me to confirm our booking, i was asked if we were celebrating something special. I told them it was our anniversary. Not sure why it didnt pop up in our reservation details, but whatever. The person proceeds to ask if i would like to order a special anniversary dessert in advance which would be a slice of cheesecake with chocolate writing on the plate of up to 20 characters for $18. I was a little surprised that they were now charging for this so i declined. Kinda disappointing but again, whatever. For dinner, we had the prime rib and rack of lamb. Both pieces of meat were quite tough and we both agreed we have had better cuts of meat elsewhere. In fact, the prime rib i bought from sams club for christmas last year was better than this, sadly. Both entrees came with sauteed vegetables which was just squash and zucchini which was undercooked and just meh. We purposely ate just half of our meals since we wanted to save the rest for lunch the next day. For dessert, we ordered the $22 chocolate flambe. You are really just paying for the show because all you get is a scoop of ice cream, a few chopped up slices banana and strawberries, and some warm chocolate sauce on top. The server performing this "show" was rather disengaged and barely spoke to us so it definitely wasnt worth it. No acknowledgement was given to us regarding our anniversary except from the hostess. Again, it wouldve been nice to have had something small on the house after spending about $300 on dinner. Today, after taking our leftovers out from the fridge we realized our leftover mashed potatoes were not packed. We were bummed because we were looking forward to eating our leftovers for lunch. Not sure why they would decide not to pack it as it was on the plate with everything else. The entrees were $80-90 each and it just kinda sucks we werent given all the food we paid for. Idk...i have such fond memories of celebrations here and this one experience just ruined things for me. Prices have skyrocketed and unfortunately, quality and service has declined.

The service and food was delicious as I remember from a long time ago. Glad to see it is still around. I wished they still offered the garlic fried rice like they used to.
Be the first to ReplyWe had the worst experience here! Party of 7.
Food NOT served at same time. First 3 came out. Waited 5 minutes for next 3. One order came out 30 minutes later than everyone else. Steaks were prepared wrong for 3 of 7. Quality of steak not as good as previous visits. Manager and staff did not care. Offered free dessert for trouble. We loved this place and every time we visit we go here. WAS our favorite steakhouse in Hawaii. We will NOT be back after this visit! Very disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyFirst off I would like to mention the outstanding staff.
The hostesses were extremely courteous. Chris and Cameron did an amazing job, amazing service. The atmosphere was solid. A little loud, but that was due to how busy it was (there were a couple of large tables 8+ people). All in all good vibes. Now on the main course...I had an off the menu special an American Wagyu tomahawk ribeye. It was cooked to perfection, juicy and almost melt in your texture. I recommend the bananas foster for dessert. The table side flambรฉ makes for an excellent precursor for dessert. Fantastic experience every time I've been in.

This place was so elegant and peaceful! I ordered the filet with a lobster tail and it was perfectly cooked! Every bite so delicious. Their cheese bread simply melts in your mouth. The service was incredible! Must try!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe food was not good.
Took forever to serve. My steak was too raw and the veggies were barely cooked. The baked potato was old, almost like it was cooked the previous day. When we arrive and checked in few minutes before our reservation, the host asked us to wait outside even though there was no people inside. Strange. Overall experience was very poor. Overpriced place with low quality meats. Big disappointment.

Wow. Was really disappointed. This used to be my go-to place for closing dinners. Prices have gone up while the quality has gone down. $175 for the seafood tower. I got two. The fish was stringy and the shellfish had a strong fishy odor. For some reason the iced teas were thick and murky. The onion soup was really salty and the au jus was too. The restaurant was really hot too. Hopefully they correct these problems because they are good to the Honolulu community but after dropping $1400, I won't be going back until I hear better news coming out of there.

all locals were by high steakhouse where the valet and parking are free. I'll be at in WAIKIKI by the Zoo end. The food is always excellent and the Weight staff are very friendly and will chat with you if they're not too busy and you want to chat.

Had an amazing dinner here with friends! Loved the old school atmosphere and how you could see where they cook the meat. All the food was high quality and I had new flavors I haven't had before. The service was amazing throughout the night and the table side service was entertaining as well. I was surprised by their caesar salad - literally the best I have had. I watched videos after to try to recreate it because it was so good. The dessert of bananas foster is a must get - I could eat triple the amount for how good it is. The steak is the real highlight - definitely recommend getting it because it is broiled with the kiawe wood. Wow you will not get that flavor just anywhere. It was such a treat to eat here and valet was super easy as well!

The ciappino was unacceptedly over salty, service was impeccable, the sea bass was very disappointing but the other 3 diners were very pleased with salmon, rib eye, and scallops..... baked potatoes with adds were perfect......as were fosters an..... except not the streudel.... and of course the ambiance is always out of sight great I think the ciappino was likely a "bad" night
Be the first to ReplyA must! Dress for the moment.
Our favorites; sashimi, onion soup, caesar salad, steak Oskar, banana foster, Kirin beer. Sit near the glass bbq to watch. Woodsy. Will be closed for the next couple of months of 2024 for renovations. Can't wait to see the updates. Valet parking.
Be the first to ReplyWe had my husband's company holiday party here.
Its been a minute since Ive been here. Easy to find, valet is right outside the entrance of the restaurant which is nice:) We immediately got seated with our party. It was nice to see our preordered menu on the table. Let me just say, the service was AMAZING! We had several people waiting our tables as we have a party of 20. My water never reached half cup, they were on it. Now lets talk about the ambiance, PERFECT lighting, not too loud, but I gotta say which wasnt my favorite part, but they have a lot of stairs, LOL. For someone who doesnt wear heels much, I wasnt a happy camper, but it was okay, haha.. Alright lets get to the food, golly it was DELICIOUS. We all had pre ordered our meals due to such a large party. I ordered the Sea Bass and let me just say, it was cooked to perfection *chefs kiss* nice and soft and moist. the asparagus was cooked just right, and their mash potatoes, let me just say that stood no chance, LOL. The caesar salad wasnt the greatest, I had better but it was okay. Now to the dessert, my husband had the banana caramel with ice cream and I had chefs choice which was a crรจme brรปlรฉe, im not a sweets person, so my husband and I switched, LOL. Ohhh I cant forget the lobster soup (not the correct name, sorry) that my husband it, it was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS, so hard to describe the flavor, but let me just say, the chunks of lobster that was in there was sooo nice and soft, they had some croutons mixed in the soup, it was very tasty. Overall, we had a great evening :))

We made sure to come back on this trip to experience the great food and services Hy's is still known for. We had a wonderful meal and a great time

We had an incredible meal at Hy's! I got the coco aloha to drink without the banana liqueur, and it tasted like strawberries and cream- I still think about it. For an entree I got the garlic steak and it might be the most flavorful steak I've ever had. Even if you don't like mushrooms, just push them to the side, this steak is worth it. My husband got the NY Strip with the Au Poivre sauce which was great too, but we both liked mine even more. We also got the apples flambรฉ which they do tableside and it was fun, I liked the dessert a lot but it was more about the show than the dessert. The service was so warm, multiple people stopped by our booth to wish a happy birthday, and they even took a photo of us and sent us home with it in a cardboard frame.

Went to Hy's last night and the food was way below expectations. All 6 of our meals were cold and the quality of the steaks was poor and the broiler cook did not manage the grill well. One prime rib slice was less than the other portions brought to the table. All vegetables were mediocre and the baked potatoes were extremely small. Staff was pleasant but never checked after dropping the meals. Several items that were ordered were forgotten and brought too late. Steaks were dry. Hopefully, their upcoming renovation will result in some improvements because last nights meal did not live up to their reputation.

I tried this place out one night solo dolo when my fiancรฉ was out of town. I sat at the bar enjoyed an old fashion and a Demarco steak. It was a great combo, service was fast and friendly. I ended the night with a glass of wine and I'll be back!

We've been hearing rumors that they are closing for renovations and will rebrand when they reopen. This is also our first here since they changed management. Unfortunately, this time our experience fell below expectations. The service level has gone down just a bit. The food quality is also noticeably below par.
