Buyer beware if you are booking reservations.
Just called the hotel to nook two rooms snd the woman who answered could give me availability and asked i give exact dates over a 6 week period. Pretty cumbersome so I went back to the website snd booked one room at a cost of $1400.00 for 2 nights. When i could not find the second room with the same views i called the hotel and the same unhelpful woman answered and told me she cannot give me a second room with the view. I asked her to cancel the first room since I cannot get a second. This was all within 5 mins of booking the first room online. I WAS CHARGED $$150 to cancel the room when 1) they would not help me book anything on the phone and 2) i could not book 2 rooms at the sane time. Super disappointing service and policies for a higher end hotel. Customer service should not be associated with this hotel.

My husband and daughter (named after Catalina!) were attempting to bring my parents and unfortunately our 4 month old very got sick - turned into a little bit of a cluster. Originally we had booked through booking.com (postpartum brain fart) and will never use them again. LUCKILY I was able to finally call the hotel myself and speak with a Lovely gentleman, Cody. He was professional and kind and very understanding and accommodating. Just the interaction on the phone call alone will prompt me to only stay here when on island moving forward!!

For my first trip to Catalina, I splurged and stayed in the VIP wing of Hotel Metropole. Wow, truly memorable! The staff were so friendly, room was clean and stellar, and the continental breakfast was a nice bonus. Radiant heated floors, jetted jacuzzi with an ocean view, it was an island paradise.

Vanessa helped us so much after we ended up stuck on the island for an extra night. She was very understanding and accommodating, and we were all relieved and overjoyed to be staying at such a beautiful hotel after our previous horrible experience at another hotel on the island. The room, Vanessa's favorite, was amazing and we loved every second of it. Room was very clean and service was impressive. We would not have had such an amazing trip without Vanessa's help.

I love this hotel!! I have stayed here a handful of times everytime I visit the island. And its the only place I'll consider staying in the future. Service is top notch, always with a smile, clean, quiet, easy checkin/out, and perfect location.

It's alright no where as glamorous as the photos on their website. That photographer did a bang up job.My bed wasn't terrible but it was not supportive as I'd prefer. Furniture was not as updated as in the website pics, for my room at least. There's a continental breakfast served just outside the lobby. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the instant oatmeal was, I should of grabbed several of those beyotches for the road.Location is great it's a short walk to most of the dining on the island.

We stayed 3 nights and are going back next week for another 3 nights. The entrance is on W. Whittley Ave. approx. 50 feet up from Crescent. Awesome hotel.

No smoking hotel, except everything smelled like wet cigarettes. 2 person zacuzzi got cleaned one time over the entire Labor Day weekend, water was murky and couldn't see the bottom by the time they cleaned it. Room was dated and smallFront desk hotel staff was dismissive Breakfast was your standard cereal, fruit, bagels, tea, coffee and juice Towels came stained with a big wad of hair on the floor of the bathroom Small victory, early check in was available Overall summary, not worth the cost of the hotel. Pick somewhere with better amenities or more updated
Be the first to ReplyWon't stay here anymore! We have been staying here
Won't stay here anymore! We have been staying here exclusively every year for 25 years, sometimes several times a year, and renting our usual suite. We have had no problems in the past and I always recommended HM to friends and family. Yesterday I made a reservation for the end of September but had to cancel due to a family emergency. Our reservation is 7 weeks out, and I called to cancel less than 24 hours after I booked the room, and they insisted on charging me a 5% cancellation fee. The room total was over $1,400, so the 5% was a significant amount of money, especially on our retirement income. I spoke with the manager but she didn't care. Kept stating it was policy. We have been loyal customers for many years for both personal and business stays, and never once cancelled; but they seem to care more about their $70 than to keep their loyal customers coming back. We will use this experience as an opportunity to now stay at one of the other (and less expensive) hotels on the island and start a new tradition. We gave you a chance Hotel Metropole, but you chose not to accept it. Good bye!
Be the first to ReplyGrimy and dirty .
HORRIBLE CUSTOMER service and hospitality. The "manager" aka front desk receptionist, Asia has NO CLUE what actual hotel service offers to guests and just rambles off meaningless words like a robot. Bugs all over the hotel and an inch of dust under the bed. Scared to bring home bed bugs. I would NEVER stay at this hotel again....makes sense that it was the ONLY hotel with rooms available on the island. Hotel has a COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE front desk staff with unintelligible explanations from robots quoting "PROTOCOL" which is an oxymoron coming from hospitality. I would give it a ZERO rating but yelp doesn't offer that!

To celebrate our anniversary my wife and I decided to stay a night at Catalina Island. I presume like others we hunted the various websites and travel sites for a good hotel. My wife picked Hotel Metropole. This hotel was easy to get to, attractive, and clean. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our room was nice and we had a balcony view. The continental breakfast was nice and for me breakfast coffee is a necessity, and their coffee was perfect. But I would like to make a few suggestions to hotel management. I suggest they have an easy chair to sit and watch TV in, and a desk to put our electronics on. Not deal breakers and we would stay there again.

Amazing stay!!! Due to a bad experience in another hotel we were in desperate need a room for the night, Cody, the receptionist, was able to give us an amazing room in just a few minutes. The room was great but it's the outstanding customer service that will have us come back in this hotel for our future trips in Catalina.

Great location but very Noisy at night because of all the gas golf carts zooming by all night so don't get any rooms ending in 15-19. Light in room didn't work so room pretty dark and old fashioned air conditioner unit that sounded like an airplane taking off every time it came on so couldn't use it if we wanted to sleep. Hotel could use some maintenance.
Be the first to ReplyGOOD BUT NEEDS AN UPDATEWe stayed here on a previous visit
GOOD BUT NEEDS AN UPDATEWe stayed here on a previous visit to Catalina several years ago, so we tried it again. It's conveniently located at the far end of the waterfront strip of hotels and restaurants, within easy walking distance of everything in Avalon. We were a little disappointed that this time the place seemed a bit dated, with signs of deferred maintenance (like wallpaper beginning to peel in places and bathroom fans that clattered). Also, it seemed odd that, with COVID mask mandates having been lifted, the hotel still was not providing maid service or resuming their continental breakfasts. But the staff were very nice, the bed was comfortable, and the price was reasonable.Note for disabled visitors: The hotel''s one accessible room is a bit noisy, located directly off the main entrance and loading area, and with some kind of mechanical sound going on much of the time.
Be the first to ReplyVery nice place.
Clean with friendly staff who also booked our Catalina Express Boat trip. We will definitely return.
Be the first to ReplyThis hotel is further into town, away from the ferry
This hotel is further into town, away from the ferry terminal and most of the shops - our room was very quiet at night, even though we were in a room that was next to the street. We had a room with a king bed, and it was clean and spacious enough for two people to stay in for a few days without feeling cramped. While the parts of the hotel and the main part of the room were nicely updated, our bathroom showed signs of aging and wouldn't hurt to be updated - shower tiles were starting to crack, the faucet in both the shower and in the sink were outdated - the water flowed out as a spray, so anytime you washed your hands or brushed your teeth etc, water got everywhere on the counter and on you. Their rooftop jacuzzi was also open at the time we went - they provided you with towels for the jacuzzi at no cost to you if you returned them after which was nice. The jacuzzi was very relaxing, but once again, wouldn't hurt to be updated to fit with the style/price of the hotel. The staff were incredibly nice and welcoming, there was always someone available at the front desk at all hours of the day to help or give recommendations. They were also nice enough to store our luggage at the hotel for us the day we checked out until our ferry arrived, so we didn't have to bring our luggage everywhere with us. I think the room is slightly overpriced for what we did end up getting - however, to stay on Catalina island is expensive, so you are going to pay a higher price for a hotel then you normally would on the mainland. When they resume their continental breakfast again, I would say that the price would be worth it. All things considered, if I came back to Catalina, I would probably stay here again.

While I was making the reservations I specifically asked about the hot tub, if it is open and available for use and I was told yes. When we get there the hot tub is very dirty and did not work. The also spent about 45 minutes one night fixing the TV that did not work.
Be the first to ReplyI would prefer to give 0 stars but that isn't an option.
I just dealt with the RUDEST person who answered the phone. I attempted to send my youngest sister, who is on her honeymoon here, a bottle of champagne and/or charcuterie board. When I called and said what I'd like to do, the lady rudely answered that had already been done (without asking for a name, etc). I replied that that was sent from my other sister and that I'd like to send one. She finally asked the name and date of arrival. I gave my sister's married last name and she laughed rudely and said they're checked in under a different name. I clarified that that was her maiden name and I just hadn't been sure which name the reservation was under as I was doing this as a surprise. She laughed rudely again and said it's already been delivered. I replied that I'd like to send another one since they'll be there for 5 days. She said we don't do that. I was confused as she had just said it had been sent up from someone else. She FINALLY clarified that "we don't have any way to charge you" and "we only do one complimentary bottle". I sarcastically told her thanks for her help and hung up. I texted my middle sister who had sent the bottle and she said she had received rude service too but called back and got someone else who was nice. Listen, if your hotel doesn't allow people to call and pay for a bottle of champagne or charcuterie board for people staying there, fine. But there are MANY different ways this could have been handled more professionally and with more courtesy. This is something my family and I have done at many hotels. I cannot get over the completely unwarranted rudeness from the get go just because your hotel doesn't offer a service. Absolutely ridiculous.

We booked the helicopter package and stay through this hotel and it was such an easy process. The stay was absolutely amazing. We splurged and got the oceanfront room, I highly recommend it! Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
