We went with another couple we regularly hang with.
Service was fantastic, all of the food was incredible, and the vibe is upscale, but relaxed. Amanda did a great job introducing the meal and delivering on the hype. Add ons were great too!
Be the first to ReplyHer place is definitely worth the hype.
I always love a chef's menu, but this place takes it to another level because everyone gets the chefs menu. There are 2 seatings each night and there's a nice community vibe in the restaurant and they encourage tables to take with each other. Then, the chef explains in detail what each dish is and where the ingredients come from. It is such a unique and special experience. The menu changes every couple of weeks based on what ingredients are in season, etc. the menu when we went did not disappoint. Everything was SO unique and delicious. The service was amazing as well! I can't wait to come back and try another menu of theirs!
Be the first to ReplyI've got a major girl crush on Her Place Supper Club.
WOW, just wow! I'm in absolute awe of the dining experience I had last night. Truly a gem. From the music soundtrack, to the amazingly attentive service and all female staff, to the intimate dining setting, to the passionate chefs who took the time to ring the bell and explain every single dish in detail, to making every single person dining in that room last night feel so welcomed and last but not least, to the thoughtfully curated dishes and empty plates left behind begging to be licked - what an epic dining experience + one that both my husband and I will never forget. So happy Presidents Day (Monday) allowed me the opportunity to make it to a dinner during the week. EVERY SINGLE dish I tried, I absolutely loved. Not one bad item on the menu, not a single one! One Recommendation: Get all of the add-on specials, there is no 'going wrong' at Her Place. Try it ALL. Showstopper Dish: Chitarra w. Clams A big round of applause to Amanda Shulman. Truly impeccable. I'm telling everyone I know that I love her and 'Her Place'.
Be the first to ReplyTotally lived up to the hype.
Worth a trip to Philly just for the experience and cuisine.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, warm and knowledgeable staff.
Menu is posted each week so check it out to make sure what's being served is what you like as there are no substitutions.
Be the first to ReplyReservations are released every Sunday for the next two
Reservations are released every Sunday for the next two weeks (different in 2024 than in the past) at 3pm PST (6pm EST) and the menu is different every 2 weeks. Amanda has really done something special in Philadelphia. Coming here was such a treat. It's a small restaurant so the atmosphere was very warm and cozy, but the size wasn't what made it cozy, it was the head chef. I have never been to a restaurant where the whole restaurant was silenced so that she could walk through every little detail on the menu. It was so great to hear about every pairing and ingredient and she also presented the add on options that are available for the day. Certain items come in pairs, and it's done like that on purpose so it can complement one another. The first course was an orange salad with fete de moines (funky cow milk cheese) and hazelnuts. It was delicious. If you don't know, oranges and cheese pair very very well together. The crunch of the hazelnuts also added the extra layer that elevated this appetizer. What came with this was the English muffin and a foie gras spread on top with spots of fig jam. The sweetness of the fig jam complemented the foie gras very well. It was delicious. The second pair that came out was the fried skate cheeks (fish) with a tartar sauce and a celery root slaw. This was like the fish in fish and chips. The batter was very light and crispy and the tartar sauce was also full of flavor yet not thick and overpowering. But the star of the show was the celery slaw. It paired so well with the fried fish. You get the taste of celery to know that you're eating celery, but it is soft and easy to eat and feels so refreshing when eating something fried. What came as a pair was a broiled scallop with a trumpet butter gratin. The bed of gratin that was so good. I added the beef tartare and hands down it was the best tartare I've ever had. They fermented/pickled peppers from the summer and that was on top of the tartare as a kind of sauce. It was amazing. The tartare was so flavorful and fresh and tasted like summer because of the pepper sauce. What came after was one of the main courses. It was a potato ravioli and the chef described it as a campbells soup but better and I would have to say it's definitely better. The spinach was so sweet and the tomatoes were so fresh. So yes, I guess campbells but way fresher and better ingredients. Another main was the duck breast with red wine sauce. I actually thought this dish was one of the worst ones of the night (worst of the best). What this was paired with was the star though. It was a duck leg confit salad with nuts, pickled, and shallots. It was so delicious and the ingredients worked so well together. For dessert there was a pavlova dessert with citrus sorbet on the inside. A pavlova is a meringue based dessert. And this one had this as the shell with the sorbet in the middle. I paid extra for a crepe cake and it was definitely worth it. Many delicious layers with a chocolate sauce.

Last night, I took my wife, out to "Her Place" in Philly to celebrate the end of the year. We were excited to try their $100 pre-fixe menu, but unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to our expectations. Firstly, the chicken oysters were a letdown. They were rubbery and lacked flavor, which was disappointing given the hype. Then came the lamb dish - it was a mere 3 oz slice that was just average in taste. For a place that charges a premium, I expected a bit more in terms of quantity and quality. The appetizers didn't leave a lasting impression either. They were forgettable and did nothing to elevate the dining experience. Overall, I felt the meal was overpriced for what was offered. The inconsistent quality and the underwhelming portions made me feel like I didn't get my money's worth. It's unfortunate, but I don't see us returning to "Her Place". It feels like this experience was more of a miss than a hit.
Be the first to ReplyHands down one of the best experiences and meals we have
Hands down one of the best experiences and meals we have had since moving to Philly! We had a family member visiting and thought it would be a perfect time to share this experience together. We were treated by a visiting chef for His Place Thai Edition and from start to finish it was incredible. We started with amuse-bouche of cantaloupe with a meatball and greens. Followed up with a noodle dish, a ceviche style dish, a cold clam dish with a chimichurri. For the entrees, a green curry and fried lump crab dish was served. The fried crab was incredible so we had to ask for another one! Before every dish, the chef described the inspiration behind it and it was honestly so educational! Finished off with a Thai inspired flan dish and some of her places famous chocolate chip cookies! Also want to give a big shout out to the som for an INCREDIBLE wine recommendation! We can't wait to come back when the chef is back to have a different experience!
Be the first to Replytl;dr this self-described "supper club" achieves a balance
tl;dr this self-described "supper club" achieves a balance of sophisticatedly innovative and comfortably cozy, and it is certainly one of my favorite restaurant experiences in the city In the midst of the pandemic, Amanda Shulman signed a temporary lease in Rittenhouse Square to showcase her "supper club" concept: a rotating, locally sourced menu in an intimate and personal setting. Fast-forward 2 years, and Her Place was a resounding hit: the biweekly reservation drop is a challenge that rivals Zahav, Her Place's sister restaurant My Loupe has opened just blocks away to critical acclaim, and Shulman has garnered back-to-back nominations for Best Emerging Chef from the James Beard Foundation. I've lived just around the corner of Her Place since it opened -- and I'm glad that I finally had the opportunity to give it a try. Even though Her Place is the new kid on the block, it feels infinitely timeless and effortlessly comfortable. Marble tables and mismatched wooden chairs are pressed into the tiny space, and each table has a fresh flower and a live candle. The whitewashed room has forest-green trim and plenty of artsy framed posters. The sizzle from the open kitchen mixes with the low hum of instrumental music and 2000s hits. To kick off the meal, Shulman greets the room from the open kitchen in the back, and she invites the guests to introduce themselves to each other. Then, she gives an in-depth illustration before each course and supplement. My partner and I pounced on a reservation right when they were released on Sunday evening. When we arrived, the staff immediately made us feel at home. We dove into our meal with an amuse-bouche: a crispy cheese sandwich with rhubarb jelly and foie gras mousse. The strong sweetness of rhubarb complemented by the characteristically rich liver well. Next, we received a giant beef bone, sliced in half to easily access the marrow. The herby marrow melted in my mouth, and the springy fava beans perfectly complemented it. The accompanying focaccia was drenched in brown butter and toasted until crisp. Further, the simple side salad offered some acidity to cut through the rich marrow. Next, we received grilled asparagus with ramp-based ranch dressing, which we upgraded with a fried soft-shelled crab. Everything was crisp, and the lemon nicely offset the substantial ranch. The pasta course consisted of pillowy ricotta gnocchi, enveloped in melted cheese and served in a creamy crab sauce. For our main course, we were served buttery, perfectly charred scallops with a sweet-and-salty sweet onion "cream" and crunchy lovage. Across both, the combination of flavors and textures was masterful, and each bite was as mouthwatering as the last. Our meal concluded with an almond shoehorn pastry, schmeared with strawberry whipped cream and lemon curd. It was light and flaky, with occasional crispy sugar crystals mixed throughout. My partner and I were floored by the meal, and we would have been happy if it ended there -- but Shulman herself visited each table to drop off take-home baggies of duck fat "Chex Mix". Dinner for 2 ran just over $200 (after tax, tip, and our crab supplement), and we agreed that it was worth every penny. As my final supper before moving permanently to Los Angeles, Her Place was an outstanding occasion to celebrate my near-decade in Philly. If I were to list the best fine "special occasion" restaurants in Philly, Her Place would no doubt rank among the top -- go ASAP before Shulman moves on to bigger and better things.
Be the first to ReplyI want to preface this review by telling everyone that I
I want to preface this review by telling everyone that I absolutely love food and spend a lot of time in restaurants. We've all had bad experiences in restaurants for one reason or another, but even when I've had them, I never write a bad review. Take a look at my profile...I've had this account since 2017 and haven't written a single review. In any case, I walked into Her Place last night by myself. The hostess or manager walked up to me and I asked if they had any availability that evening. She told me they might have an 8:30 table available and that she would have to check. I said great and politely asked if I could just take a quick look at the menu first (the restaurant changes their menu often, and since there's one or two things I can't eat, I want to make sure the menu works for my particular restrictions. I did not say anything about that to this woman though) and she gave me this odd look, then said "It's a Thai tasting menu for $125.00...that's probably not what you're looking for." I was completely caught off guard and couldn't believe what she had said to me. What a condescending and presumptuous thing to say to someone. Anyone. And that's besides the fact that in all the years I have been passionately eating out in restaurants, I have NEVER...not once...had a restaurant have a problem with asking to look at a menu, let alone saying something like that. How do you treat someone in that manner? And the ironic thing about what she said to me was that I actually love amazing Thai food and have eaten in some of the best Thai restaurants in the country (Pok Pok, Uncle Boons, Lotus Of Siam, Kalaya), and I have done countless tasting menus (Alinea, French Laundry, Vetri, Le Bernardin, etc) as well, so I would have absolutely stayed for that tasting menu had it not been for that inexcusable interaction, because I will never step foot in a place that treats people like that...not now and not ever. To anyone reading this at Her Place. Above all, you are in the hospitality industry. Do better. Treat people better. This is just common sense and common courtesy. I strongly encourage anyone out there reading this to eat elsewhere, and as a public service, let me recommend a number of Philadelphia's incredible restaurants to you, that not only have award-winning, world-class food, but who also treat everyone well. RESTAURANT (neighborhood): A.Kitchen (Rittenhouse Square) River Twice (Passyunk) Lark (Bala Cynwyd) Kalaya (Thai) Zahav (Society Hill) Irwin's (South Philly) Vetri (Center City) Friday Saturday Sunday (Rittenhouse Square)
Be the first to ReplyHer Place was such a cozy dining experience.
It's like being invited into someone's home, complete with mismatched silverware and plates that look like they've been passed down through generations. I did the walk-in on Monday, which uses a slightly amended $55 menu. The restaurant opens at 5pm, and I showed up at 4:30. I noticed that not everyone gets their food at the same time even though we got seated at the same time. The larger groups especially seemed to see a delay in getting their food. There are also add-ons for extra $$ if you think the pre fixe menu won't be enough. The menu the day I dined was: Rabbit croquettes: These were delightful. I liked the slight gaminess of the meat and the little dollop of cream on top. Salad: This was a nice, light course to get my tummy ready for the food to come. I don't remember much about this salad except that the dressing was good. Calamari: I was not expecting a soup for this meal, but I enjoyed the grilled bread and the beans in the stew. Roast beef and fries: The roast beef was okay, but this course definitely made me full with the amount of fries there. The fries were crispy.Lemon meringue cake: my favorite course. I loved the lemoniness of the cake paired with the sweet lightness of the meringue. I wouldn't say that the food blew my mind, but I think this is a really lovely dining experience that you'll definitely leave full!
Be the first to ReplySuch a special experience.
Went in a vegetarian night. The menu was unique and each dish was done with tons of care. The waitress recommended a great glass of wine to pair with the meal.
Be the first to ReplyI'm *still* thinking about the magical dinner I had at Her
I'm *still* thinking about the magical dinner I had at Her Place last week. Yes, magical. The decor, the mismatched vintage plates and utensils, the open kitchen, the warm and welcoming staff (ALL OF THEM), the cocktails & wine - everything was perfect. Did you notice I said nothing about the food? Is there a superlative above perfect? Every bite was thoughtful, delicious, well balanced, seasoned perfectly. We went during a vegetarian week, and did not miss meat at all. From the salt & pepper gougere with cauliflower puree (first course) through to the carrot & orange ice cream sundae (final course), we enjoyed each and every dish. Favorite? That gougere was amazing. The salt roasted celeriac was surprisingly delicious. The mushroom dish, though, probably beat them all - perfect mashed potatoes and demi-glace. I love everything about Her Place. Except how difficult it can be to get a table!
Be the first to ReplyThis place is is absolutely perfect.
It is Philly in the form of a restaurant. Refined but playful. Inventive yet nostalgic. The portions are tasteful, yet sizable. The ambiance is both intimate and playful. I've eaten at EVERY big name restaurant and hole in the wall in this city and NOTHING truly compared to my experience here. I am already thinking about my next visit. I mean seriously...how talented must you be to change the menu every 2 weeks and still be this consistently good. Of note, I came on the first night of a new service and it tasted as if the team had practiced this meal for hundreds of services. Truly spectacular and deservedly number 1 in the city.
Be the first to ReplyI thought folks might be curious about how walk-ins on
I thought folks might be curious about how walk-ins on Mondays work, because I was! I arrived at 4:30ish. One person was in front of me. I think everyone who was in line at 5pm was seated right away. Those who arrived later were added to a wait list. I was dining solo and opted for a bar seat which was a great choice. Goes without saying, but the meal was incredible. Everything very thoughtfully done and delicious, but not fussy.
Be the first to ReplyHomey dining experience.
Her Place Supper Club is a female owned and run limited seating prix fixe dining experience and was recently nominated the #1 top place to eat in Philly! Needless to say the food is fantastic and the reservations go fast so make sure you're trying to get reservations the minute they open (every 2 weeks on Sunday). Their menu also changes every 2 weeks so it's always a unique experience (we went 12/13). The ambience feels very cozy almost like the living room of a friends house with an open kitchen you can choose to sit by while reserving. It's a really intimate dining experience and the head chef introduces each dish in detail with anecdotes to match. All of the dishes were lovely with our favorite being the chicken with the rich foie sauce. They also throw in some small surprises which makes the experience really special.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a unique, special Philadelphia dining experience.
The space is intimate and welcoming. Reservations were possible to get, you just have to be ready when they are released but you can also go on a waitlist. The menu was absolutely delicious and the most creative and innovative flavor profiles I have ever experienced. Outside of the menu, Amanda offered several other options, such as her grand-moms matzo ball soup and fresh baked cookies. The drinks were delicious and freshly made to order and we were given excellent wine suggestions. The star of the meal was the additional add ons: oysters Rockefeller and poached filet. Yes, the offered menu was enough to rave about, but if you are here, take advantage of the opportunity and get all the add ons, you will not be disappointed. The personalized details and the interactive staff made this an experience to remember. It genuinely felt as if all members of this place were happy to excelling in their craft as a team. I can't wait to come back!
Be the first to ReplyI had a great meal at Her Place last night! I really loved
I had a great meal at Her Place last night! I really loved that the meal down to specific ingredients was explained by the chef. It was really interesting to hear why and how certain dishes were a part of the menu. My favorite dish was definitely the squash fondue. We got two add ons with our price fixed menu they were shrimp toast and an oxtail croquet and they were both absolutely delicious. The dessert is not usually my favorite part of a meal but I absolutely loved this dessert as well. I definitely plan on coming back!
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely amazing dining experience! The menu changes
Absolutely amazing dining experience! The menu changes every two weeks and there are no substitutions - this isn't an experience for someone unwilling to go with the flow. My friend wanted to go here for her husbands birthday and asked if we would join months ago, I said of course! Since she made the reservations, I didn't check out the menu the week of our dinner. When we arrived, I found a menu of a lot of what looked like "boring" things I would never order out - chicken, mushroom toast, salad. I was a little bummed until I took my first bite. I could not have been more wrong. It was all fantastic. Seriously, we are still talking about that salad almost a week later. Chef stops the service a few times during dinner to talk to the whole restaurant about the next couple of courses, which is really neat. They even turned the lights off and had the whole restaurant sing happy birthday! The music is 90s-2000s, which adds a great flair. We will definitely be back!
Be the first to ReplyMy heart is still full from the beautiful Friday evening I
My heart is still full from the beautiful Friday evening I shared with friends at Her Place Supper Club. It is now Monday morning and I'm smiling as I reminisce on truly how special everything was about this dining experience. Now let me rewind... it's a Tuesday afternoon and I'm on Yelp reading a recent review left by my fellow Elite friend, Natalie C. and immediately I am reminded that I have STILL not gotten to check out Her Place. I do some research and saw that there weren't any upcoming reservations available so I went to set an alarm for Sunday (this is when new reservations are released for the next two weeks) and then noticed I could place myself on a waitlist. I thought, what the hell? I'll express interest in every single night available to me and see what happens.I did get an automatic email on Thursday evening about a last minute cancellation creating an availability. However, I was too slow to click the link in the email and someone else had snagged the spot. That was a bummer, but I did not lose hope! Now it's Friday afternoon and I am walking out of one of the best spa experiences of my life and get a phone call. It was a local number so I decided to answer. It was Julianna from Her Place Supper Club! She noticed I was on the waitlist and she had a table available for the four people I had requested at the 6 PM seating. I asked if I could check in with my other three peeps to make sure the time worked for us. She told me she would wait for my return call and would not offer the table to anyone else in the meantime. What a sweet angel! Once I got the go-ahead from my peeps, the call back was made and the table was secured. As soon as we walked up to Her Place, we saw a small crowd waiting outside. We were a few minutes early and joined the others as we waited for the doors to open. Promptly at 6 PM, the lovely Julianna opened the doors and greeted everyone. She remembered our earlier phone call and I thanked her, telling her the call made my whole day! We were seated and the real experience began. The space is beautiful inside. The decor is cozy and eclectic, and the music was truly on point. Have you ever walked into a restaurant to the song 'Roses' by Outkast? We sat and wondered if this was intentional and if so, we loved that.We were informed that we were one of the first groups ever to receive an actual paper menu outlining our dining experience for the evening. The appetizer dishes were melon with pepper vinaigrette, perrystead shmear tomato toast, roast beef with fries and green pepper mayo, and corn caramelle with a cheese fondue. We opted to get two orders of the eggplant add on, and wow we were really glad that we did! The main course was a bouillabaisse with rouille, sourdough, and Maddie's butter. For dessert, we had a corn brulee. I am honestly pretty picky, but I knew that this was the kind of dining experience where I'd have to be adventurous and try everything. When I saw the menu I was thrilled that I was genuinely excited to try every dish. I was blown away by every single one. I'm sad that this menu will change, but also excited about the opportunity to taste more meals crafted by the incredible Amanda and her team in the kitchen. The eggplant was too good, like the perfect balance of cheese and the sauce, and the crispiness of the fried and breaded eggplant. My mouth is watering right now. I'm not a huge seafood girl but I ate every single bite of that bouillabaisse because WOW.What I loved the most about this experience was how special it felt. It is truly a supper club, you are told about every ingredient and where it is sourced and encouraged to make friends with a neighboring table. There was a certain magic about it all, and the insanely delicious food definitely contributed to that.If you've made it this far in my review, honestly god bless ya. Here are some logistical notes to keep in mind... There are two seatings each night, one at 6 PM and one at 8 PM. The largest table size they can accommodate is 6 people. The dinner menu is pre-set and usually a surprise. The cost is $75 per person and it is no longer BYOB. There are some really great wine options! When the night ends, they'll bring your check in a guest book where you can sign and leave a few words (or paragraphs, if you're like me) for the staff.Do yourself a favor and throw yourself on the waitlist, you'll be surprised at how easy it can be to get a table! Experience the magic for yourself, for a special occasion, or seriously any random night because it will become a special occasion just stepping foot into this magical little space!
