Burn Baby Burn
Since all the hype has died down now I can finally get in a small line, have my order taken, and enjoy my meal all within twenty minutes. I ordered the Sando (HOT) with all the fixings, fries, a custom Texas toast and a side of pickles. It's a good size sandwich and at first bite I thought this isn't that hot, then towards the end my mouth was on fire. The french fries were really good too. The order taker who I think was the chef was very nice.

Finally tried the Strips. I am so impressed! Like the Wings, the Strips are the biggest I have ever seen from any restaurant. Mario had me try Mild, (I'm a Howlin' level fanatic), and wow! Bursting with a flavorful juiciness, these will probably replace the wings in my order. The Crew never disappoints! Still not open to dine in service but am so happy to be able to order & receive the wonderful food!

Recently I ordered their signature fried chicken. It was out of this world. The hot layer of sauce and spice on it is amazing. Would definitely recommend.

It is definitely one of the best places I had fried chicken in, if not the best
It worth the queue, wait and donโt hesitate ๐
One of the Best
My coworkers and I decided to try this place out.
Who can say no to this great chicken?!
Be careful when ordering if you canโt stand the hot hot spicy foods. I wasnโt about to risk it so I decided on the Mild Chicken sandwich. One of my coworkers went for the Country, which is just a no spice at all. He loved it. My other coworkers went for the Medium, they are brave.
Our orders were TO GO.
The only down side is we were told we had to start making a line since over 1 hour before the place opened, other than that the food and service is great!
The picture is of the โMediumโ spicy chicken sandwich.
The chicken tenders are a nice big size.
The chicken on the sandwich is so so big itโs bigger than the bun.
Worth the Wait!
This place was suggested to me as the premiere Hot Chicken restaurant in LA. After waiting 2 hours, the food and service was worth it. If you get the chance to go on Saturday or Sunday, try their waffle with your other selections. That Sando is delicious.
Be the first to ReplyMy brother in law wanted spicy
Bit spicy i would say, my brother in law eats spicy and wanted us to eat their spicy chicken but that isn't for me. You can definitely get different levels of spicy, my bother in laws was so spicy i didn't like smelling it.

Came here with some co-workers before a Dodgers game. The wait was about 45 minutes, but once you order the food comes quick. I ordered the tenders. They are 4 large and VERY tender pieces of chicken. I ordered the Mild and it was the perfect amount of heat and the comeback sauce was the great compliment. I saw plenty of people sweating with just the Medium. The service was fantastic. I didn't order the sides, but they looked great. Although I was stuffed with just the four tenders. If you get too much heat, there is an ice cream shop across the way...haha.

Yes, this place is worth the wait. Better than their reputation! I would give more than five stars if yelp allowed.
THE WAIT. We have wanted to try Howlin' Ray's for awhile and thought mid-afternoon would be best. We got to the restaurant at 3pm. Howlin' Rays' twitter page (which posts estimated wait time every hour) gauged the wait time when we arrived as between 2-2.5 hours and updated after about 10 minutes in line to 1-1.5. In actuality, it took an hour and 51 minutes to get to ordering. You can also text their line (213.935.8399) and they will promptly respond to any questions!
PARKING. I suggest taking an Uber for ease. We were told that there is a parking lot that offers free two hour parking with validation, but considering the wait will likely exceed that, the cost might be a wash at the end of the day. Guy behind us in line said it took him about 10-15 minutes to find a spot to fit his truck. Guy in front of us fell in the parking lot when he slipped on oily food debris.
THE SERVICE. Best service that we have had in a long time! Every person was friendly, patient, welcoming, hospitable, and genuinely appeared to love their job and their customers. Jamal took care of us as if we were his personal guests. Luis, Mario, and countless others we didn't catch the names of stopped by to check in on us.
THE ATMOSPHERE. We were told to eat at the counter because it's the best experience. It was. We were inundated with samples of everything to try - grilled cheese sandwich, cheesy wing, collard greens, macaroni salad, and an extra tender. We needed a bag to get all the left over food home!
THE FOOD. We learned that there is a secret menu and we ordered a few of those items - Luis-style Sando (grilled Texas toast instead of bun), fried pickles, and grilled cheese. We ordered 'medium plus' sauce and it had a nice kick to it and we didn't need gloves or tums.
If you go into the experience as just that, an experience, you will love it.

Long long line
Their line was so long the first time I went, I left, I went back two weeks later 40 minutes before they opened and there was already a line with people waiting so I stayed wants the door open and took me 35 minutes to get inside and the food was tasty the chicken with tasty the greens and fries were tasty. Order three different flavors the country which is just season no spices and I ordered 1 3 piece Wings mild and that was spicy enough for me and I ordered the medium and that was too hot so I gave that meal to my son. I plan on going back to tried a chicken sandwich the guy ahead of me in line had ordered 16 sandwiches and the police left out with eight bags of food.
Be the first to ReplySuperb in every way!!!!
3 days in Los Angeles and had the pleasure of coming to Howlin Rays on Sunday, 11/17. If people are waiting in line for hours, there has to be a good reason, right? Right! After 3 hours in line (and meeting some really cool fellow foodies), getting inside is an experience like no other. Prepared to be wowed by how fun and welcoming the crew is. I got to meet and hug the legend Mario who you will see mentioned all over various social media and review boards - he is one a kind and such a magnetic person, often working as the MC there. Everyone in there is really nice and dedicated to making it a great experience for customers. Now for the food - the chicken sandwich is actually as amazing as the service. By the time you get your meal, you are hungry and this sandwich delivers. It was tasty, crispy and juicy and the kickback sauce they put on it does the trick. The slaw and pickles enhanced the flavor (and was a perfect amount to balance it all out). Definitely include Howlin Rays in your next visit to LA. And if you're in LA already - what are you waiting for? Line times can vary and they post updates on Twitter. They're closed on Monday and will also have some time off for the holidays (check their site). THANK YOU HOWLIN RAYS - keep it up, you truly have the magic recipe!!!!! And thank you Mario for being one of the coolest employees EVER!!!!!
