Hatchet Hall Los Angeles Reviews from The Last Year

The food, service and ambiance were fantastic! We had a fabulous server that made great recommendations. The portions run slightly small so I'd definitely recommend getting several dishes. My favorite was their cornbread! It really is worth all the rave!

We came here for date night and left disappointed with the food. We ordered the crab hush puppies, smoked trout dip, pork chop and the broccoli. The highlight was definitely the broccolini. The hush puppies were bland, the trout dip was more filler than fish and the pork chop was tough and fatty. Service was average. It seemed expensive in comparison to the quality. We did enjoy the ambiance though! I would probably come back here just for a drink but would skip the food.

I had a work dinner with two colleagues on Wednesday evening (4/10/24) between 6:15-8:15 PM and this place was packed. We were seated inside. If you prefer a more quiet ambiance, being seated outside or dining at a less impacted time may better meet your preference. The service, food, and drinks were great. However, what I was most impressed with is the valet service. The two young ladies that tended to this service on this day were personable, kind, and engaging. I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to these two beautiful humans with whom I had a brief but meaningful connection. As Maya Angelou said, "People may not remember what you said, but they will remember how you made them feel."
The ambiance is great and the decor and plates are cute.
The food is good but small portions even for a tapas style restaurant so I'd come with a smaller party - I came with 6 people. I wish I was more impressed for the hype it got, but I can't say I'm itching to go back.

I'm giving this place the hatchet for three reasons: - the martinis were late?? .... took a solid 20 mins - the money tree was touching my friends head top - we were hustled (swiftly) out the piece because we just had drinks It's an over hyped spot. See ya next Tuesday

I was very excited to bring my family as I have heard nothing but great things about this restaurant. I made a reservation for 8 PM on a Friday night and when I made the reservation, I made sure that it was for inside. So we get there and our hostess tried to make us sit outside. It was freezing and we opted for inside - as this is what I initially made the reservation for - she said sure no problem. That will be about 15 to 20 minutes. 30 minutes later, I check in and the table is still not ready. 40 minutes in, we are still waiting and we have to find the hostess to ask once more. The manager then stepped in and let us know that when you make a reservation, it isn't guaranteed that you will sit inside. They had to kick out the table that was seated at our table before we took our seats - so that was a bit awkward and it seemed as though staff thought we were the annoying ones even though they then rushed us through our meal once we sat. The food was overrated and extremely overpriced for example- 3 short rib pieces that could feed a five year-old kid on a bed of five dollar rice and peas for $53. Also, I found it a little weird that right next to us was a room where all the staff was eating sushi and drinking wine. Seemed like they were done for the night at 9PM on a Friday evening at a super busy restaurant. Overhyped place, but it is what it is.
I went here with a group of 5 on a Wednesday evening.
We reserved about a week in advance for dinner, which I recommend as seating is limited. All the seating seems to be in the outdoor covered patio, which is decorated and has lights and heat lamps. We ordered a citrus salad, crudo and corn bread to start, the porkchop, gnocchi, Chinese broccoli and fries as our mains and a strawberry biscuit to finish the night. Everything was so delicious and well cooked. My favorites were the cornbread (highly recommend! They are known for their cornbread), and our mains. The citrus salad and crudo were ok, but would probably not get again. The pork was so tender and flavorful and I was surprisingly a huge fan of the gnocchi. Dessert was not really my favorite but my friends enjoyed it. Would definitely come here again and try out all the different options. We parked $50-70 each depending on if the person ordered a drink or not. They have valet parking (I think $15?) and limited street parking. The neighborhood around is permit only.

We've been back to Hatchett Hall a couple times since my last review and the food holds up. It's still delicious. That said, we were assured when we ordered four dishes for the two of us that it would be properly coursed, we were confident that it would be sent to our table spaced in a timely manner. We loved our Tuna Crudo starter and with-in a matter of seconds before we could even finish the 2nd appetizer both main courses arrived. That doesn't seem like coursing. So I requested that they take one of the mains back and keep under the heat lamp. I don't consider that 'coursing' our meal. I did notice that the people at the table next to us kept their menu and ordered their dishes one at a time...clearly they are regulars and know the drill here. That's what I will do next time as well.
Wonderful! I love the ambiance .
Great service and food is wonderful. I am looking forward to returning

Hatchet hall has good food, service and drinks but their prices are very high for the food that you get. I like that they take reservations and they're very dog friendly.

Great food!!! I highly recommend making a reservation as you will be waiting a long time. Inside it can be a bit loud on the weekend. Outside is much more intimate.
I've been going here for years.
The staff is friendlu, the food is good and there is parking .
Hatchet hall is really good.
.. but just a little overhyped. Walking in, you will notice a lot of servers and a lot of people running around helping you (it is a big restaurant). The severs don't exactly wear a uniform so it can be a little hard to distinguish who is a customer and who is a server. We were here for a bday and they graciously gave us some free sparkling wine, a nice touch. We ordered food and they slowly brought it out 1 by one so we could eat it family style and always have the next dish hot and ready. Most of the plates we ordered were fantastic. Cornbread was amazing, gnocchi was particularly good, greens were solid, fries were amazing too. The one thing that was kinda annoying was that the portion sizes are incredibly small, for a restaurant where you are supposed to share and eat family style, why have portions so small that everyone has to divvy up morsels of a small plate? The price for the dishes is also crazy high, each plate is flawless I get it, but again the dining concept is family style, and the plates don't represent how much a family can split. I would much rather have tried fewer dishes and had a higher price per dish. Regardless, the food is really good and the dining experience was amazing. Just 1 star off for my complaints!

At Hatchet Hall, the cornbread and Brussels sprouts steal the show with their outstanding flavors and textures, while the gnocchi also impresses. However, the steak was solid but nothing amazing. Next time I would probably try a different protein dish. Despite the high prices, the rich dishes ensure you leave full. The service and ambiance are commendable, making it a decent option for a splurge meal. There is valet parking for $15 but looked like some street parking options were available nearby as well.
Food was great, service was perfect.
But the valet $$ is ridiculous, won't be going back....

Amazing food! We ordered mostly Vegetarian dishes & found them as gorgeous to look at as they were to eat. The ambiance was very chill. The service was excellent. It was my first time here & will definitely come back! I recommend the corn bread, brussel sprouts, caesar salad & well, you get the picture. Enjoy!

Came here for dinner on a Friday and it was packed! I really love the decor and ambiance of the space. The service was just ok, we seemed to have many different people helping us and even then they would disappear for long periods of time, I think they might've been a little understaffed for how busy it was. The cocktails were great, I had an espresso martini with vodka and the western medicine and my friend had the lost in key west and the superbloom. I would drink any of them again! As far as food it was pretty good - we got: -deviled eggs - loved these! -cornbread - really tasty, but also really heavy/filling for two people -Brussels sprouts - loved the flavor on these - loaded gnocchi- yum!! -shrimp and grits - these have good flavor but I hate having to peel my own shrimp, especially when they're in a sauce already, it's just messy and feels unnecessary, I wish they came already peeled in the dish -cookies - delicious and HUGE Overall I enjoyed but would probably just come back for drinks/snacks.
I've been excited to visit this restaurant for over a year.
We just went last week for a business dinner and I was so impressed. The service is fabulous but really the food is incredible. We ordered old fashions to begin, followed by baked oysters, Brussels sprouts, turkey meatloaf and mash, shrimp and grits and both the strawberry bread pudding and sticky toffee pudding. I have already made two more reservations in the next few weeks. We love Hatchet Hall.

the food is still great but the new menu change is confusing and potentially embarrassing. The organization of dishes makes no sense, they've combined smaller dishes making me less likely to order additional plates at all, the sides are confusingly split on opposing sides of the pages. The drawings are reminiscent of someone's first time opening a hipster coffee shop instead of a Michelin star restaurant.
I do not get the hype.
We came here for a friend's birthday in October. It was after some rain, and we sat outside. There were other tables available, but they sat us in the back corner where a few of the chairs were in a huge puddle. The chairs do not accommodate purses, so I had to share the chair with my purse. My daughter's shoe fell off while we were eating and it got soaked because we were sitting in a puddle. I don't even remember what we ordered because the food was not memorable. I think it was like the pancakes and the biscuits and gravy. It was bland and the portions are SO small. We left hungry and definitely overpaid. I would not come here again or recommend it to anyone.
My meal and service here was spectacular.
It was a beautiful ambiance in the evening, but it was a cold night. My guest and I were very warm, even though we were seated outside. Every dish we ordered was delicious, but what I'd like to highlight most is their Mocktail offerings. we were doing dry January and wanted to feel like we were having real cocktails. The mixologists here were superb. We had three rounds of mocktails and left, feeling really good as if we had had a night out. Definitely returning. Only disappointing thing is I wanted to throw a party here and communication with special events was not as seamless as I would have wanted it to be. Nonetheless, I will definitely come back here for a meal.
Michelin recognized Southern spot
Came here for dinner with a couple of friends and we made a reservation beforehand for 6pm (15 minute grace period). There’s parking there as well as street parking. Old Man Whiskey Bar is hidden there as well. Credit cards accepted. We ordered the fried green tomatoes, loaded baked potato gnocchi, dry aged kanpachi, confit duck leg, and the cornbread (which everyone says to get). The potato gnocchi was rich and very cheesy. The plates were on the smaller side but all the food is served family style. I liked how well the kanpachi was cooked - the skin was crispy but the meat was tender. I do think that the cornbread was a little oily but it’s because of the generous amount of butter and it is tasty.
Delicious!!!
We absolutely loved this place! First of all, I am Not a “Foodie”— I like most food, but don’t really get excited about most of it. This was Different— Above & beyond! The cornbread can’t even be described! (& I’m southern, so I know), the Turkey meatloaf & mashed potatoes melted in my your mouth! Salad was great! The only thing we didn’t love were the carrots, but only because they were a little spicy. Excellent ambiance & service.
Worst service with subpar food!
This is literally the worst service we have ever received in Los Angeles. There’s a mandatory 20% minimum service charged on top of your bill regardless of service provided. Because of the automatic tip, the server that we had was so unmotivated, arrogant and acting like waiting/greeting customers was beneath her. She even tasked the buser to take our orders. What’s weird was that she was standing right behind us and still using the buser as an intermediary and didn’t come to us. Very bizzare. The $80 ribeye came out shriveled, thinly sliced like a cheap steak sandwich sans buns. The chef left in April and the place is in shambles. They need to invest in competent wait staff and floor managers.
Unforgettable dining with friends
This venue is a fantastic spot to enjoy a meal with friends. The atmosphere is both energetic and relaxed, striking a perfect balance. The interior decor creates a cozy ambiance, while the outdoor space offers a refreshing experience. The cocktails provided a refreshing and satisfying taste, with a decent strength to them. As for the food, the menu showcased creative and intentional items. The grilled mushrooms, in particular, stood out, as they were well-seasoned and had a meaty texture. And let's not forget the cornbread, which was delightfully savory and soft. All in all, a truly enjoyable dining experience!
Yummers!!
Yummy...omggg the place is so cute..my 3rd time here but this time for brunch and yasssss!! The crispy potatoes oh yeah..the roosted brocolini ues maaam and ommg the sourdoad hot cakes with lemon curd on top melt in ur mouth..Its a yes for me across the board!! The fried chicken is just okay in my opinion and nothing to write home about..The fish..Turkey meatloaf is a thumbs up!! Cute cocktails. A bit pricey but totally worth it.
Disappointed at food quality.
I had high expectation as I chose this for my husband’s birthday. I was eyeing the ribeye and was eager to try some other exciting dishes. However we were all disappointed. Best: melon and ham Worst: Elk, Ribeye, the whole fish The Elk was prepared medium rare and we thought it’s perfect. But other meat was rough. It was difficult for us to cut. The seasoning was too heavy, towards too salty side. We are from San Francisco and I m not sure dishes in LA are more strongly tasted Ribeye was a flop. We ordered medium rare. They cooked perfect but the quality of the meat was no good, very tough. It was like US choice grade with a lot of gristle. Very disappointed at this $80 price point. The fish was good but the tomatoes sauce ruined it completely. Not worth for the 5 star review which misled me. Overpriced for such food quality.
Must try!
The atmosphere was wonderful. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. The cocktails were fabulous. I will return!
