Harry's Bar Venezia Reviews from The Last Year
It’s a tradition
This is our fourth visit to Venice in over twenty years, and our fourth visit to Harry’s. For us, a trip to the city would not be complete without stopping for an overpriced drink at this famous establishment. We visited in the late afternoon and fortunately had to wait only a few minutes for a table to clear. As we sat there, the line of people waiting for a table became much longer. Is it a Tourist Trap? Consider the definition: Merriam-Webster - A place that attracts and exploits tourists. Wikipedia - A tourist trap is an establishment (or group of establishments) created or re-purposed with the aim of attracting tourists and their money. Tourist traps typically provide overpriced services, entertainment, food, souvenirs, and other products for tourists to purchase. It is probably no more so than the city of Venice itself. Harry’s is part of the history and fabric of the city, which is expensive, crowded; and you must admit, a but tacky. Are the waiters rude? No more so than the waiters at many of the café’s that line Piazza San Marco. They are brusque, stiff, and efficient. That is what people expect them to be. We go for the experience and the people watching. We do not go expecting fine dining or white glove service. Go, and be part of the tradition!
WORST FOOD I HAVE EVER EATEN IN ITALY
This place is awful. Perhaps the worst food we have ever had in Italy. The Bellini's and food are outrageously overpriced. Staff is snobby and waiters who tend tables do not seem to understand English well or just don't care. $277.00 ($302.00 US) for an absolutely horrible lunch for 4 people. Pasta did not taste fresh. Ravioli was a miniscule portion and just not good. Hamburger for $52 US does not come with a bun or any sides. Filet has no flavor and taste like cooking oil. It was also seriously undercooked. I did not finish it. Probably the worst filet I have had in 57 years of life. It was served with what amounts to overfried french fries. Would have sent it back, but we had already sent back two of the four disgusting dishes. Not sure how this place is still in business. IT IS THAT BAD.

I was HORRIFIED by the way we were treated from the time we stepped into the bar. I was prepared to spend a lot on drinks and lunch, but once we walked in we were rushed by a waiter and told we had only 5 minutes to decide on lunch because the kitchen was closing (not the case as many people ordered after we got our food). The staff were very rude and handed us a dinner menu that only included large entrees, yet we saw someone else receive a smaller menu next to us with lunch options. When we received our food the waiter only gave us a portion of our food and left the rest on a tray. When she asked if we wanted more we of course said yes, it's $41 pasta, and the quickly took away the rest before we could even finish it! The whole experience ruined what we thought would be a drink in a historical location and left us feeling snubbed. Not worth it!
Horrible AVOID! Paid 54 euros for two Bellinis.
Ordered chicken croquetas and they never came. After we finished our drinks, we waited 15 minutes, got up frustrated because everyone is so busy talking amongst staff and not paying attention to us. Had to walk up to bar and pay. Then as we do so, is when we find out machine to make food was broken. The owner should really consider shutting this down with only three stars of a review. It's really even worst.
If you're expecting the Cipriani you get when you book them
If you're expecting the Cipriani you get when you book them in New York or Dubai, move on. The staff is feckless; they're trained for a clientele whose highest esteem is The Cheesecake Factory. Disgrace to the family name.
Forza Harry!
If you overlook the €€€ and absorb the tradition and atmosphere, Harry’s Bar has to be visited. We strolled in for a late morning Bellini, snack and coffee. De rigeur for people and staff watching! The most divine chicken sandwiches (same as when I visited 30 years ago). Impressed they tried to give us back the tip we left! Exquisite service. Pop in after a stroll around the Royal Gardens…..
Words Cannot Express the Disappointment
I’ve never written a one star review for a venue or service in my entire life. Especially with the Venetian economy being so delicate and dependent on tourism, I try to go out of my way to provide any support possible. This was hands down, the worst bar experience of my life. Incredibly rude staff. As someone who travels internationally frequently, and has spent weeks in various parts of Italy, I can assure you this is not a cultural misunderstanding. Venice is a dining capital of the world. Please pay patronage to the many historical establishments that take pride in their heritage. You’d be better off eating a slice of cheap electric oven made pizza and sipping a warm Peroni on the street corner.
The service here was quite disappointing.
My husband and I were happy to enjoy a late night drink in a historic establishment, in fact we were very excited. But staff was rude the moment we walked in. Considering the delicate economy of Venice is based in tourism, and we speak Italian, we were not expecting to be met with such ungracious, unkind, and rude staff. I was devastated to leave this place having had that experience. I don't know when I'll be in Venice next but I won't be recommending or returning.
This was the worst dining experience of my life.
I'm not opposed to spending into four figures for a once in a lifetime meal, but I am opposed to horrific service. We have dined in Venice multiple times and have never felt disrespected. We ended up leaving immediately after drinks and going to an establishment that takes pride in being a custodian of Venetian heritage.
We were very excited to have a cocktail/Bellini at Harrys
We were very excited to have a cocktail/Bellini at Harrys after watching Stanley Tucci Searching for Italy on MAX & the urging of friends!! Well after trekking for about 30 minutes (since GPS doesn't work so well in Venice) We were excited to see a lively bar very close to closing time so we realized we would have time for at least 1 drink !! When we first arrived we spotted a tuxedo clad man telling 8 woman that they were not permitted to have drinks at a table & needed to stand around the bar !!! We actually spoke with him explaining our trek !! We were waiting at the bar to order ..excited as a patron was telling us that the Bellini was delicious & worth the price !! Mr Tuxedo looks at my hubby who happened to have shorts on & says sorry we can't serve you !! Shorts are not on the dress code!!! Even tho he watched us walk in & spoke with us ...BUT here's the Clincher .... there was a Dog at the bar !!!! Thats right a dog (with no pants on either) So dogs are OK but shorts are not ?? So they must not be hurting for money at an average $26 per cocktail & a total 12 patrons out the door... obviously the women didn't feel like trying to squeeze in to the very small bar ...So Harrys better get with the times we're not in the 30's anymore .. BTW my husband was very fashionably dressed ..it's June shorts are the norm !!
AVOID - tourist trap
This place is so awful it’s unreal. Poor service and mediocre drinks for extortionate prices. The reviews will catch up with them at some point. Avoid it at all costs, it’s not worth the money.
Avoid, overpriced tourist trap without any history
As devotees of historical bars, we had been looking forward to visiting for years. What a disappointment, you enter into a room which appears to have lost any history years ago. Cram into a chair and attempt to gain the surly service. Drinks are served in tumblers with the Negroni & Martini being of poor quality, yuck. As we sat there all the tables were turned into restaurant sittings, ie, no bar! We decided we'd had enough and I asked for the bill from a female waiter in Italian only to be met with a sneer, literally, as in, "Not my job". After a further 10 mins asking we just got up, went to the bar and demanded our bill. Avoid this awful tourist trap.
Harry's Bar, the original location of the global Cipriani
Harry's Bar, the original location of the global Cipriani group of restaurants, is expensive but worth every penny. The food and drinks are all exquisitely prepared. Located on the Grand Canal, a short stroll from San Marco, you cannot get a better location. Good service as well.
Great history in this establishment but maybe share a
Great history in this establishment but maybe share a Bellini as they cost 22euros each! Convenient location close to San Marco and the vaporetto.
The bell has tolled
25 dollars is a lot to pay for a single drink. Even if you only hang out in the super luxe bars of New York and the Côte d’Azur I hope that all reasonable people can agree that 25 dollars…. for …. one… drink…. Is a lot. I am prepared to pay 25 dollars for a drink. Occasionally only, to be clear, for fear of penury. I prefer paying 6 dollars. But yes I am prepared to pay 25 dollars in the right circumstances. In return, I am expecting a great drink, excellent service, a fine and weighty glass, beautiful surroundings and perhaps some history. So Dukes in London, The Writers Bar in Singapore, the beautiful Charles H in Seoul. They tick all of these boxes. I love them all. And I am happy to pay for the privilege. I have been to Venice a fair bit and never been tempted to visit Harry’s Bar. Word was it did not justify these kinds of costs. Hemingway may have liked it just after the war, but the world has moved on since then. It was now just a tourist trap for the foolish and unwary. In a moment of weakness this week, on my way to dinner, walking past the door to Harry’s I succumbed. How bad could it be I thought to myself? It seems busy. The people in there didn’t all look like tourists; perhaps I had this wrong…. That moment of weakness was a mistake. This was apocalyptically bad. 52 dollars for two gin and tonics…. Deep breath … Gin. And. Tonic. Not some labour intensive, crushed artisan cocktail involving obscure aromatics and the knees of virgins…. But a gin and tonic. Not a choice of gins either. And I had to pour the tonic myself. Out of a can. That I had to open. Into …. What… not some chunky lead crystal glass that made me feel like a Bond villain….but rather the kind of dishwasher safe glasses petrol stations used to give away for free. In a room badly in need of a lick of paint, with all the decorative flair of a Warsaw Pact youth hostel (what is this colour?), tables jammed in like pins in a bowling alley - and guests bounced around nearly as much. And service as ice cool as … well I don’t know … but a smile from the staff required something more from me clearly. These are not so much first world problems as super first world problems. But we all get to choose how to spend our money. And my strong, strong recommendation is not to spend your money (or anyone else’s) in Harry’s Bar.
This place is an icon and a must visit.
Service is great and for such a little place, everyone really makes you feel welcome. This is the place that the Bellini was invented so that's a must. It is a bit expensive but how can anyone pass up a speak easy from the past. Influenced by American ideas but all Italian. Really enjoyed the place!
It was OUTSTANDING! Yes, €22 is a lot for a Bellini but
It was OUTSTANDING! Yes, €22 is a lot for a Bellini but you're paying for the experience. Outside of that (which I didn't mind - I wanted a Bellini where they were invented), you get more than you pay for. Everything, from the bread to the entrees to the dessert & service was wonderful. I enjoyed the amatriciana; interesting that it's a white sauce at Harry's rather than red. Our waiter pointed it out & offered to add tomato if I preferred red sauce. My son had a magnificent beef filet; at least 2 inches thick & cooked exactly as he requested. My husband had a deliciously light tagliolini with bacon in a cream sauce; said it was one of the best pasta dishes he's ever had. We went in as I wanted the Bellini. We ended up absolutely delighted with our dinner. What a wonderful experience!
I’m still thirsty!
I love visiting legendary establishments and have no qualms about paying over the odds for good food or drink. BUT I don’t like being ripped off. 24Euros for a whiskey sour that was smaller than a breakfast juice glass. Wanted to stop in for a cool refreshing drink but this experience barely wet my lips. Get a grip Harry’s Bar and stop ripping people off.
Not worth the $$$
We came here expecting the counterpart of Harry’s Bar in Paris and were sorely disappointed. I’m sure there’s some important/historical meaning behind this bar and the Bellini’s they kept serving but that’s not what we were here for. The ambiance was flat, there was no music, the tables were low, it was overcrowded and ridiculously overpriced. The average drink price was €24 when you can get cocktails in any bar for 1/4 of the price. Not to mention, the drink was the size of a sippy cup. Again, I’m sure there’s a reason many people come to this bar, but if you’re looking for the Venetian Harry’s from Paris or just to have an apperitivo before dinner, I wouldn’t recommend coming here.
A lot of Hype but not a lot of room
Popped in for a Bellini just to experience it as was told it’s a must do place. It was incredibly busy (but it was a Saturday afternoon) but managed to get a table fairly quickly. Had a Bellini each and left. It was a nice Bellini but as mentioned by many it was very pricey. As it was a special occasion we just accepted it. It was crowded but there are a lot of staff so food and drinks arrive very quickly. Was it as special as I thought it would be? No.
Rude & ignorant
Determined to visit Harry’s Bar myself & four friends left a wonderful restaurant and wound our way to this ‘iconic’ spot only to come face to face with a deluge of ignorance & rudeness. Almost empty and pretty dinghy, we didn’t get one smile from the staff & were told we could only sit at the bar for our €24 drink! Understandable as we weren’t eating but a tad confusing as the place was empty! It took us less than two minutes to agree that no, we weren’t spending our money here & not because of the price but because of the blatant rudeness of the staff. Awful experience. Ignorant beyond belief.
Overrated and Overcrowded
We arrived for lunch today without a reservation and were directed to one of only two tables available. Both tables were in the middle of an already overcrowded seating area. The restaurant was extremely hot and as we perused the menu we were constantly being bumped into by the waiting staff who were having to squeeze by the overcrowded tables. Needless to say we decided not to dine here ! We found a fabulous local restaurant which was far more appealing and comfortable with exceptional service and a very local clientele.
not worth a visit at all
ridiculously overprice for standard drinks service below average £28 for a smaller than usual cocktail no mats for you drinks over crowed are that like a vault in a bar. would not recommend or visit again
I think Harry's bar is Extremely overrated and beyond
I think Harry's bar is Extremely overrated and beyond overpriced. I'd never come back. This was actually my least favorite dining experience during my 8 days in Venice.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
