Harris' Restaurant - The San Francisco Steakhouse Reviews from The Last Year
Impressive service and delicious food
We enjoyed our dinner last night at Harris. The fried mushrooms were delicious. The service is always impeccable. My husband ordered the special truffle potato soup and loved it. He had crab cakes as his entree. I ordered the Steak Diane with a baked potato. Dinner at Harris is always a special evening!
Always the best, consistently good service.
Plus Great Food, in a classic San Francisco setting.

This fine dining establishment in San Francisco is everything you can ask for: really good steak, good quality food overall, great service, and live music on a Tuesday night (most places don't have live music middle of the week). The 20 oz ribeye was cooked to perfection. I asked for medium rare and it was absolutely perfectly medium rare, super juicy and tender. Everything I ordered was fresh and tasty. I wish I had room for dessert, but unfortunately my appetite is not what it once was! I sat right next to the musicians and loved my front row seat. The music wasn't too loud since there were no drummer this time. I like sitting against one side of the wall and just people watch. Can't wait to come back! Although this place is wonderful, it does come with a hefty price tag so I would consider this a special occasion type of place. Perfect for a date who you are trying to impress, or out-of-towners who really love a good steak, or business dinner if you have the budget for it.

Absolutely amazing! We came for our 15 year anniversary and I couldn't have asked for anything better. Our server was so helpful and polite. We first thought the service was kind of slow but when the food came out we knew different. My husband got the filet mignon, the cook was perfect but the sear on the outside was the star of the plate. My prime rib was cooked perfectly and melted like butter. 10/10 we will definitely be coming back. Thank you for making our anniversary dinner so special
A very nice fine dining experience.
The ambiance is a low key, dimly lit, historical camas-themed restaurant. The steaks are delicious and perfectly cooked to order. There are many other menu items to choose from. We had an amazing beat salad to start, steak, and a bread pudding dessert. The whiskey menu is impressive! A leather-bound book filled with their whiskeys, scotches, bourbon, etc. Service was accurate and pretty friendly.

Ayo, it's your boy Daniel Lee and lemme tell ya 'bout my experience at Harris' Steakhouse in San Francisco. This spot ain't playin' around when it comes to steak - straight five stars, no doubt! Walkin' into Harris' is like steppin' into a classy, smooth joint. The vibe is all about that old-school elegance, with dark wood, comfy seats, and just the right amount of dim lighting to set the mood. Now, let's talk about the main event - that American Wagyu steak. Man, oh man, it was off the chain! Cooked just right, juicy, and packed with flavor. Each bite was like a party in my mouth, no lie. And don't even get me started on them scalloped potatoes - creamy, cheesy, straight up comfort food that had me feelin' like I was chillin' at home. The service was on point, too. Harris' crew knows how to treat a playa right. They were all about makin' sure I was feelin' good, with dope recommendations on wine that took the whole meal to another level. From start to finish, Harris' Steakhouse delivers that top-notch experience. Whether you rollin' solo or with your crew, this place is a must-hit for anyone lookin' to vibe out with some serious steak game in SF. So, if you wanna elevate your steak game and kick it in a spot that's all about class and flavor, Harris' Steakhouse is where it's at. Best believe, I'll be back for more! --- Hope that's what you were lookin' for! Let me know if you wanna add any more flavor to it!
The staff here was very accommodating.
They took us in at the last moment during a busy dinner time. They gave us a great table and treated us just like everybody else. Both me and my wife felt comfortable and relaxed during our stay. I had the 20 oz bone in rib eye steak and my wife had the 8 oz petite filet mignon. Everything was delicious. The staff was great and the ambiance was classy. We will certainly return.
Growing up in SF, I've passed by Harris' many times.
I just can't believe I've never eaten here until recently. This is your old-school, traditional steakhouse. The decor and ambiance are reminders of a more simple time. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night. Instead of opting for steak, all seven of us ordered the prime rib. The dish comes with their traditional baked potato with all the fixings or potato of the day and creamed spinach. You can also choose to pick different sides if you'd like. Service was excellent and attentive. The prime rib was amazing! It definitely is up there with HOPR and you actually get to eat at a decent time here. We also got some appetizers to start, breaded fried scallops which was a special that day (really good) and the fried mushroom and onion rings combo (probably will skip this next time). The cocktails (sip strong and Manhattan were also refreshing. Street parking is not too bad and they also offer valet. This is a definite return for us! Maybe next time I'll try the steak.
Harris is an institution and for good reason! Always good
Harris is an institution and for good reason! Always good advice and good food! Had the peppercorn steak and it was delicious. S
Old School classic
Someplace special for a birthday celebration, and the honoree had never been here. Walking in, the small butcher case and area show you what they’re famous for. Nice greeting and prompt seating. Waiter, menus and glasses of water and what a menu. I could have ordered so many things, such wonderful choices. Sweetbreads are amazing, all the apps we tried were great. And those steaks! Wow! Perfectly cooked and deliciously tender. Nice wines by the glass offerings. Superb old school style and service. Enjoy!
I was here on a Saturday night, so seating was hard to come
I was here on a Saturday night, so seating was hard to come by, and even though I had called ahead to make a reservation, I was told that I would still have to wait for a seat if it was full by then. In the end I decided to take my chances and the waiter was very friendly and found me a seat. Despite the size of the restaurant, it was packed and the live piano performance added a pleasant touch to the atmosphere. I only ordered the filet mignon, which was flavorful and perfectly done.
My family threw a surprise party for my great-grandmother's
My family threw a surprise party for my great-grandmother's birthday, and we loved every part of the experience, from planning to the dinner itself. We booked their Skylight room, which can fit up to 70 guests, chose a custom menu, and had the option for an open bar (which we declined). They let us arrive a few hours early to set up decorations and provided a microphone and projector for speeches and a photo presentation. The staff was friendly and accommodating, and my grandmother had a wonderful time. I definitely want to return for an upscale date night to enjoy the restaurant's ambiance.
Good but expensive!
The service was great! The food was great but expensive. The place was old fashion, so interesting but in a good way. I would recommend if you are ready to spend a pretty penny.
Enjoyed a great dinner at Harris' on a packed Saturday
Enjoyed a great dinner at Harris' on a packed Saturday night .Reservations a must. Prompt and attentive service. Great cocktails - we enjoyed both types of manhattan, the diplomat and fight like a girl! Great wine selection and the sommelier would even approach at the beginning to ask if you need any assistance or recommendations -excellent! We enjoyed a tuna poke appetizer, pepper steak, Harris' steak and rib eye --yummy! You can also enjoy live jazz playing in the background coming from the bar area in the next room.
Service was good, but food could have been better.
Wasn't impressed with their food selection considering their competitor offerings.
Harris' Review Have a lot to say about this place: First
Harris' Review Have a lot to say about this place: First and foremost the food quality: 1. We got the smoked salmon and wedge salad as our apps, AND THERE WAS A PIECE OF PLASTIC IN OUR SALMON (which took 40 minutes to get to us). Justin didn't want to say anything about it so we let it be but if I knew the rest of the meal would've gone as it did I definitely would have. 2. Steak was cooked to perfection and flavored well, no notes. Unfortunately, they made the choice to pair it with... peas and carrots?? That was made worse by the fact that the peas weren't de-stemmed or stringed AND undercooked. And by carrots, I mean no more than 10 pieces of shredded carrots on top. Also weirdly greasy. 3. They took so long to bring out our appetizers- one of which was a wedge salad that was a literal quarter head of lettuce, 4 cherry tomatoes, and a single olive- that we finished our bread, and they didn't ask if we wanted a refill until after we finished our appetizers. The service was subpar-- for as high scale of a restaurant it was supposed to be, it was quite disappointing: 1. We waited AT LEAST 20 minutes between everything- water to bread, to apps, to drinks then 30 minutes to entrees. Also we got butter as soon as we were sat and by the time we got our bread our butter was starting to melt. For context, our reservation was at 6:15 and we didn't leave until 9 2. Justin and I ordered drinks, and then after our appetizers, he ordered another drink. Surprise!!! He never got it. 3 hour dinner... and they couldn't make one old fashioned. 3. The waiters for the most part left us alone which I usually wouldn't complain about but I noticed they were very attentive and talkative with every other party around us?? 4. I was wearing quite a big, hefty jacket, and I didn't know they had a coat check until the host seated a party to the right of us and immediately asked if they wanted him to take their jackets. I had to wave him over and ask him to take this massive jacket in this tiny booth we were in! I have so much more to say about this entire experience, but have already said a lot and I'm sure the point was gotten across. And I really wouldn't care this much if the restaurant wasn't SO DAMN EXPENSIVE and renowned by many. Extremely let down and annoyed that we paid this much money for lackluster service and mid food.
Frankly it's the only accessible Steakhouse in SF.
Our favorite, IZZYS is closed down for remodeling and The House of Prime Rib is booked out for six months making it virtually impossible to get a reservation.
This was our second time dining at Harris and it is
This was our second time dining at Harris and it is definitely our favorite special occasion restaurant. The ambiance, service and food cannot be beat. Our anniversary was so special spent here!
Great food.
we loved the steak, potato, and so on. Came here with my daughter and we all loved it. I feel the abeef was dry aged, from what they told me. The asparagus, everything was amazing and had a unique flavor to it. I feel the waiters were ncie. It was a good vibe for my daughters birthday. Thank you for making it special!
Another great meal at Harris’
Harris’ is a classic steakhouse with exceptional service. We left our cruise ship to enjoy a meal there and it did not disappoint. We have been there several times before and the excellence is sustaining.
Best steakhouse in town, Elegant Ambiance
Fine dining for carnivore's. The mouthwatering prime cuts are on display in refrigerated glass cases which will wet your appeittite to be sure. White tablecloth service. Valet parking or find street parking on Franklin or Polk, Van Ness is tough.
Great happy hour
Came here for the great happy hour. Had espresso martinis and apps. Its a great vibe and good happy hour prices. The waitress was a bit sassy, but we got to like her by the end. It was a busy day.
Traditional Steakhouse
Traditional American Steakhouse. We ate in the bar where there was music playing. Food was excellent! Wine was beautiful and the staff are first class. Special wee treat for my birthday too. Shame about some of the obnoxious business men waiting at the bar for a table who were very loud and looked women up and down as they passed.
Best Traditional Steakhouse In San Francisco
When I want a good steak in San Francisco, this is where I go. It is all that a steakhouse should be - good and bad - and consistently reliable in that. On my last visit I went with a friend whom I had not seen since the start of the pandemic. I arranged for a booth. He asked if I had gained some weight during the pandemic. I said I think we all did. He came in at around 400 lbs. He could not fit in the booth. I was tremendously impressed as the staff sprung into action and immediately brought in a narrower table and set it within perhaps 90 seconds while we waited. They know their clientele.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
