Maryann is the best service provider of mouth watering eats and thirst quenching libations on this side of the Mississippi. Cheers to her and her crew!

UPDATE: I'm so happy to report that the Manager, Maryanne, made it right with me. She knew that I wouldn't have made up that claim unless it were true, so she told me to save my breathe and she paid me the $100.00. I was so relieved that Maryanne made it right because I really love this bar and the people in it (minus one bartender) and I haven't been in there for about 3 weeks! You Rock, Maryanne. Thank you very much for being so easy to talk to and giving me the respect I believe I deserve for being a good customer! You are a great Manager, and you know how to treat people right! "Thank you"! Happy customer at "The Happy"-

The portions are huge. The staff is friendly.

This is the lousiest Chinese food in the city, and tied for worst in Portland Metro. "American Chinese" doesn't even help -- it's just *horrible*. Garlic chicken was pasty & near flavorless, with sad, wilted/soggy vegetables. And cucumbers! Lots of mushy tasteless cucumbers. The dish was edible, but just barely. Was hoping for better with Singapore-style noodles, but literally no joy. Also very pasty consistency, with bad-flavored bbq pork being the only real taste (no curry detectable). And lots of the same mushy tasteless cucumbers. Plus, scrambled egg just thrown on top, which in our case was handy because we ordered NO EGG so it was easy to remove. Neither of us could handle more than a few bites before tossing the rest out. The little box of white rice was unobjectionable and therefore the high point of the meal. I can't possibly imagine how they stay in business when there is SO MUCH Chinese food, from adequate to exquisite in our city. This place just sucked, and I am otherwise never this harsh.

I was bummed to see the bad reviews for food, while it's a dive bar my family has always loved the takeout. They no longer use the boxes that leak, and the food is fantastic Chinese takeout. Love the flavor, the hot and sour soup has a serious kick and so much good flavor in every dish.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was mediocre.
The service was good although it was just takeout. We might give it another chance as it was recommended by a friend.
Be the first to ReplyHappy Fortune is SO good.
Well, the food is. Yeah, it's one of PDX's (in)famous "dive bars" so it could use a good scrubbing, but in PDX that's considered charm. The food is BOMB and never disappoints, the bar staff is always friendly (the dude in the trucker hat can be a little grumpy, but that's probably part of his 'charm'...) and the on-line ordering is accurate and easy. I'm a General Tso guy, and HF nails it. Yum!
Be the first to ReplyI still think the food here is good for takeout.
I don't really do dine in anymore since they closed the dining room side for a while during Covid. My favorites are still solid. I've been getting the Mongolian beef, General Tsos chicken and Singapore rice noodles. It's on a busy street so you might miss it if you're driving by.

I've been a long time patron of this place, amazing bartenders, the food is great for a divey Chinese bar and it use to be a great place to socialize and watch sports. The complacency of the OWNERS about the every day behavior of some of the "regulars" is unacceptable. I use to love this place, spent a lot of money and time, had a lot of great times. It's sad to watch a place with such good memories deteriorate into such a grimey, unsafe, "anything goes" Portland sh*t hole. I won't be spending my time there, just doesn't feel safe any more. I know I'm not the only one that feels this way. I see a sad end to this SW Portland destination.
