to much dismay they didnt live up to the hype. Food was not good, service mediocre and we didnt feel that down home hospitality
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and company
My husband and I enjoyed the cozy restaurant of southern cuisine. I recommend the salmon, red rice and string beans. My husband enjoyed the filet, Mac n cheese and collard greens. The Obama drink was also delicious
Be the first to ReplyBest soul food I have eaten
While on tour came across this small soul food Resturant and want to eat some Gullah Geechee food. This food was so good I can still taste it in my mouth. 😅 It was food that I’m use to eating but this this was foos with a different taste to it. Everything was excellent because I had my family members to order different food items. I had crab/shrimp rice and it was the best I have ever tasted and I have had the same meal in Miami but this had a differ taste and it could be because they use fresh crab meat. I highly recommend this Resturant . The staff was very pleasant and didn’t keep you waiting and very attentive

My son and I went for lunch after a walking tour, Frankly Charleston. The food was quick and delicious and friendly service.

If you like soul food... this is the spot!! We ordered yams, greens, okra soup, fried chicken gizzard, corn bread, crab rice mix and bbq ribs!!! Everything was outstanding except for the ribs. They were tough. The crab rice mix is a must try and house special. It took about 25 minutes to get our order but worth the wait. Inexpensive for what you get and alcoholic drinks are $5!! Service was excellent. They are about making sure the customer is pleased. Busy with dine-in, small outdoor patio and carry out. Large bar and tables for eating. Parking is a challenge.
Be the first to ReplyGreat little spot!
Another great hidden gem in Charleston. We wanted to try some small, local family-owned restaurants while in town. My husband heard about this soul food place so we decided to try it. So glad we did! The crab rice was delicious! And the collards were amazing with some good chunks of pork. My husband had liver and onions. I would love to return and try some of the other dishes. If you’re looking for amazing food in a cozy spot-this is your place!

A great locally owned restaurant. A little off the beaten path and still easy to find and parking on the street very convenient. We both had the Liver and Onions and shared a serving of fried gizzards. Excellent! Food was fresh and hot and the service outstanding. We will definitely return on the next Charleston visit

I'd already planned on visiting this well-regarded soul food spot when I also got a hearty endorsement from a local expert. We were warmly welcomed and the afternoon just kept getting better. We shared some popular menu items and every bite was a pleasure. My favorite was Hannibal's crab rice, but I can also wax poetic about the collard greens cooked and served with meat - the fat was unctuously rich and so delicious. This is not a place for dietary restrictions, but if you're ready to go all in, treat yourself to a meal at Hannibal's.

So good! 100% recommendation!! Food was spectacular and the service was wonderful as well! A must stop in Charleston!!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food, slow but friendly service
The food was good, we had the crab fried rice which was very flavorful and nourishing! The only drawback was that the service was very slow - they didn’t have enough people to keep up with the demand. However, they were very friendly and helpful - just don’t expect to be in and out fast, which isn’t a bad thing
Be the first to ReplyGood food but they are still serving in styrofoam containers and cups!
My husband and I had heard a lot about the soul food at this restaurant. We chose to sit outside and were surprised when they delivered his fried chicken liver appetizers in a styrofoam container. We were subsequently told that they started doing this during covid and haven't yet switched back. When we asked for some hot sauce to accompany the chicken, we thought they would provide some homemade hot sauce. Instead we were given something off the grocery shelf. The Crab Rice dish was good and my husband enjoyed the Okra Soup. But the styrofoam has got to go.

A cute place to get a yummy dinner. The fried shrimp dinner with red rice, and collards was delicious. The air conditioning felt good on a hot and humid day. Parking was easy. Seriously delicious food!

Stopped in on a Monday at around 12:15, when I found this spot in the Downtown-ish area and they were one of the only spots I could find that serves crab rice. It is a no frills place (restaurant looks a bit run down), and the food is served to you in a styrofoam container, even if you’re eating in. The crab rice reminded me of salted fish with rice. My Chinese taste buds didn’t mind it but I can see this not being a lot of people’s cup of tea, as it is pretty fishy. The three of us shared one plate (since we had already just eaten some barbecue) and it was the perfect amount to just get a flavor of Gullah cuisine.

Went here after our tour guide recommended it for gullah cuisine and local spot - it didn't disappoint. Not only are the portion sizes great, but the food is so delicious! I will definitely come here again when in the area. Make sure to get anything with seafood, but their mac and cheese and yams?!? Yummy!

The tastiest soul food and the nicest person that took care of us! Huge portions and great service. There are pictures of famous people that have ate there as well.
Be the first to ReplyBig portions, delicious food
I ate lunch here. The night before, I had dinner at one of Charleston's more upscale restaurant and the crab rice was as good as that other restaurant's, but twice the size and half the price. Not to be missed.
Be the first to ReplySo glad we stopped!
I had found Hannibal’s Kitchen through an online article and after our other choices for dinner had too long a wait, we decided to give it a try. I’m so thankful the others were too busy - Hannibal’s was loved by all of us!! As other reviewers have noted, there was a wait for our food but it was totally worth it!! From the sweet tea to the fried shrimp to all the sides, everything was better than expected. And we didn’t know what to expect from the crab rice but my daughter and I took a chance on it - AMAZING!! It was a true taste of Charleston, and our stop at Hannibal’s Kitchen will be one of our favorite memories of our vacation!

My wife and were in Charleston SC in December 2021. Found a great place to stay (The Loutrel!) and really enjoyed our time there. We were looking for some place to eat and my wife finds this place named Hannibal's Kitchen!!! I know i cannot be the only one who responded, "Hannibal's kitchen....Uhhh, Nooo!" (my wife loves to say i'm bougie)
We pulled up to the place and i was like 'see, I'm not eating in there! :-).
While i waited for her in the car (confident in my decision not to eat there), i saw many people filing in and out of the place. Still, I'm like, 'Nope!'
My wife came back in the car with her food (crab rice and something else, can't remember). The smell was wonderful. She asked me if i wanted a taste, i said 'just a little'.
Folks that crab rice is no joke, i was hooked!. Told her I'm going in!!
i forgot all about the name of the place
On my way out the car she told me there were pictures of Pharrell, Hilary Clinton, Danny Glover and Angela Bassett having eaten in the place. I was like, Oh ok!
In the end, i enjoyed it so much that night i had to make a trip back the next day!
With a name like Hannibal's Kitchen, it has to be good right!!
Ummm Good!
I decided to try this place out not knowing how the food would be. I walked in an ordered crab rice and an Ochra soup. While waiting I looked around and saw pictures of celebrities who has apparently eaten there- Pharrell, Angela Bassett, Danny Glover… even a former Secretary of State and thought, ok it must be good. It was!!!! I let my husband taste the crab and rice before we pulled off and I had to wait the additional time (it was a bit of a wait as it seems to be made to order) because he had to go in and get one. The ochra soup was good too. But in too tiny a bowl. Worth the trip!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent soul food
Came here on our last day in Charleston. This is a great eat lunch on a picnic table place. We got the crab rice and the fish sandwich. Excellent! I still think about that crab rice and could eat that weekly! The fish was so perfectly cooked with two pieces of “Texas toast”. The price on the fish was so I expensive for two pieces of fish! Another in our party got the porkchop sandwich which he also liked. If I come back to Charleston, this place is definitely on the list of places to go to.

My four cousins and I drove down from Myrtle Beach vacation for a day trip to see a few sites and have a Gullah Geechee meal. We lucked up on this site and I thank the sweet baby Jesus that we did. We all ordered something different but my collard green, okra soup and smothered pork chop were delicious! Everyone else in the car enjoyed their meals as well! I think everyone was in a food coma afterwards. If I make it back to Charleston, I plan to have every meal here. Continued success ladies!

Went here on the recco of Alphonso Brown was our tour guide. The food was very good. Would definitely go back. Has the fried Sheraun dinner with red rice and Mac and cheese and ribs with red rice and collards. All very good!

Hannibal’s Soul Kitchen was recommended by our tour guide. I was extremely disappointed. Was looking forward to fried chicken. I’m a white meat eater and did t have chicken breast. Had drummettes and dark meat. Side options are fairly limited. They did offer pork chops and fried flounder, but I opted out of those too.

Was in Charleston and wanted to eat some good food. Read the reviews and decided to give it a shot. The wait time to get your food was a little long, but you will be rewarded. This food was amazing! I ordered the collards plate. You get a lot of food for your money! My husband had fish. We had to go back the next day because it was that good. You can call in your order or order online. Currently the dining room is closed. There are picnic tables outside. Definitely check them out, you won’t be disappointed.
