Golden Unicorn New York Reviews from The Last Year
Busy but no wait on a Saturday during prime dimsum hours.
They have lots of seating! The service is plentiful and they come around with carts very regularly. Overall their items are good but not as consistently as other spots in Brooklyn. Get the bean curd skin roll. Skip the har gow, which is sad because it's one of my favorites

Food was excellent, Service was great and ambience was even better. We were seated and served immediately and enjoyed ourselves with lots of leftovers.

I went here with some friends after a 5K race this past Sunday. It helped that several of our runners spoke Chinese. The place feels family-friendly though there were no children in our group, and it is a very bustling spot. It's very popular, so there can be a wait to get in. I've been to some good dim sum places and this one was also really really good. The little piggy dessert and some were delicious, and they had a pork short rib dish that had pumpkin or squash in it. That was unbelievably good, and I usually don't go for pork. For me you know dim sum is good when everyone walks out almost bursting full. I would definitely recommend this place with a caveat that it helps if you know a little Chinese, though it isn't necessary.
Good service and nice staff for Chinatown restaurant.
Food is good depending on what you like. Too many different items to list but my favorites were the shrimp dumplings and cream egg deserts. Prices little bit high. But worth a stop in for some authentic dim sum.

This is an old school banquet-style dim sum restaurant with food offered from carts being pushed around. The food was okay; not bad but also not great. The dim sum wasn't as hot nor as fresh as I would have hoped and not everything was handmade. Overall there are probably better places in NYC but for Manhattan this is probably as good as you can get.

Stopped into Golden Unicorn for a mid week dim sum while in the city for work and man am I glad I did! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection! Highlights included the steamed shrimp dumplings, turnip cake, shumai, piggy buns and pineapple buns. The servers were attentive, and the cart servers were abundant but not overly pushy. I will be back!
Amazing Dim Sum
Stopped in early on Sunday for dim sum before we left the city. Each and every item was excellent. But a few stood out: Steamed pork buns, radish cakes, congee and the steamed custard buns! What a great selection! And reasonably priced.
Ordered uber delivery from them.
Food was ok. Desserts were great. But yeah I would've preferred Jing Fong or Tim Ho Won instead. Golden Unicorn tasted very bland, I see why they gave so many sauce packets.
We (2 people) got a table quickly.
Dim Sum selection was not good. They tasted ok. Wow! Prices were ridiculously high while we only ordered basic dishes! This place used to be great. Pandemic, food prices or what not... we aren't going back there any time soon.

Truly exceptional dim sum - easily detectable from the standard imports. Sesame balls were soft and melts in your mouth. The radish cakes tasted like they were freshly made. The phoenix claws were flavorful. Cart ladies were pushing their dishes as usual, but not overbearingly so. Overall, we were delighted with all our choices, and certain that you'd enjoy the food if you were here. Highly recommend.
My partner and I stopped by Golden Unicorn on a Friday
My partner and I stopped by Golden Unicorn on a Friday night at around 5:40pm. We went straight up to the 3rd floor to inquire some party information. To our surprise, Golden Unicorn (which I have never been to before), is modern, spacious and clean. The staff are extremely helpful and quick on their feet. I am also stunned to find out that they not not only owned the 3rd floor, but also the 2nd and 5th floor, while the 4th floor is the main kitchen. On the ground floor, they serve dim sum from morning until night. To sum, I think Golden Unicorn owns this whole building on East Broadway. Though they only utilize the 3rd floor for weekday dining experiences. And the secondary floors for parties and wedding. Each floor is spacious and it came with great lighting and two small bathroom stalls on each floor. The food is great but the prices on the higher end in comparison to the other dim sum places in a Chinatown. As the night progress, the crowd keeps on coming in. Mostly locals who speak English. The services are quick, the food comes out fast. It's a nice place to sit down but it's expected that the crowd and the noise level will go up. I would recommend this place for your out of towners and locals alike, and especially those who have never had dim sum before. It's a good place to introduce your friends to Chinese foods to.
Your standard dim sum fare with great variety.
The dim sum wasn't mind blowingly good, but it was great dim sum nonetheless. My favorites were the piglet buns, steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed sticky rice, shrimp rice noodles, and sesame balls. I'll pass on the lobster dumplings and sweet tofu pudding next time. The value was great as we only spent about $30 per person. We came at noon on a Wednesday and the second floor was only half full. If you have never been to dim sum before, employees push carts of dim sum around the restaurant and you pick what you want to eat from the cart. We had great service and never had to go out of our way to flag down a cart. The employees were definitely most comfortable speaking Chinese, but I wouldn't be intimidated if you can't. The cart aunties weren't short or impatient with me even with my choppy Mandarin. The interior was clean and elegantly decorated. They take both cash and card and you pay at the front.
Never got ny soy sauce, took me 30 minutes to get my napkin.
Probably won't come again but a funny environment
I haven't been back in years and thought to give them a try
I haven't been back in years and thought to give them a try again. I was pleasantly surprised that the dim sum was very good! They also have a great variety to choose from. What I love is the ambiance and the service was very good, a step above from other restaurants in Chinatown. This place is of a higher class. I'll be back again no doubt!
Want to give this place a higher rating.
It was good but wait wasn't worth it. And their waiting list skipped us even though we asked twice. Our go to dishes are - shrimp dumplings (good), shrimp rice wraps (okay, lukewarm), congee (good), tripe (good), phoenix claws (okay, lukewarm), egg tart (good) One of the dishes was called lobster dumplings but it didn't taste like lobster. Maybe just bigger sized shrimp?
Glamorous Dim Sum
This place has some really good dim sum. Decent portions. Everything was quite filling and reasonably priced. The dining room was well kept and had a 90’s glitzy charm. The service staff were all dressed in suits and remained professional. I would say they are hard to get ahold of. I had to flag them down anytime I wanted something additional to the cart service. The cart service itself was efficient at times, but sometimes it took awhile for the carts with items you wanted to reach your table. It also seemed that some cart servers gravitated to only serve the other side of the room. Also this is not that big of a deal… but I wish they would ask you if you would like tea brought to your table. Because it automatically gets brought over and they charge a small fee for it on your final bill. I don’t drink tea so I feel like this was a waste of product and my money. Overall, I would still come back.
Nice little spot
Pretty good Dim Sum. I went to try the piggy buns and they were really good. The restaurant is on the second floor. The tables against t the windows have a good view of Chinatown.
Just a Take Out Counter Now
The Golden Unicorn has been reduced to a take out counter. It has a street dining shed, which was closed when I visited. So no sit down option at all. I was sorely disappointed, as this was my favorite dim sum place in NYC. Dim sum is still good, but expected to be able to eat it hot in a restaurant, not luke warm on a park bench. I will not be back unless they become a sit down restaurant again.

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
