Amazing St Malo stay!
Amazing stay at this hotel. The rooms were spacious and super clean, the amenities were great, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also in a great location. Close to the beach and the town so perfect for walking around and exploring St Malo. Definitely one of the nicest hotels in St. Malo and very highly recommended for your next visit!
Be the first to ReplyA Pleasant Place to Stay
The hotel is situated within the walled city and finding it by car is not easy. Reception was quietly efficient and our room was ready early. Our bedroom was rather small. There was no mirror in the bedroom, neither were there any drawers. The lighting was not good and reading in bed was not possible. The bathroom was also rather small. The staff, without exception, were charming, courteous and helpful . William, the restaurant manager went out of his way to be helpful and friendly. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the meal was of a very high standard, our pudding was exceptional. The cost of overnight parking was very high. Despite the shortcomings that we have mentioned we consider this to be a good hotel and one which we would be happy to return to.
Be the first to ReplyGood stay at comfortable location
We stayed at the Golden Tulip for 4 nights in mid September 2022. The staff where friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. Breakfast is good but there is a LOT of sweet choices. I know we are in France, but this was the first hotel we stayed at with this amount of cakes. Would be cool if they would consider a few more healthy options going forward :-) The best thing about this hotel is that it is located in a more spacious and quiet area of the old town. We had no problem in finding a parking space close by - so a good tip is to opt out of the hotel private parking spaces. A LOT of money to be saved right there - we rarely paid more than 10 EUR for 1 day of parking on the street. Just a few steps away there is a great beach area - that is fab in the summer/ warm months! The hotel says 4-stars - but I would rather say it is more a good 3-star hotel. It is comfortable - but the finishing around the hotel room, the breakfast area (chairs are worn out, food displayed on all kinds of different furniture which seems sporadic etc.) leaves you with an impression that they cannot quite live up to 4-stars in reality. Nice staff, helpful, kind - the bartender even came out with free samples of snacks when we ordered drinks - just to convince us that the fish-snack was good. And he was right, it was delicious! If you are looking for a comfortable space inside the old city - this hotel is a good option. Saint Malo old town just takes a couple of days to explore - so you do not need several nights - just a tip! Beware of the parking, you could save a lot of money finding your own parking space. And the old town is quite small - so once luggage is dropped off, it is no problem to park just outside the walls.
Be the first to ReplyGood hotel - good location terrible service
Overall good rooms, clean and well located. Nothing to complain about real estate wise. That said mediocre service and pretty incapable staff. A few examples: - when arriving no one helping with luggage or car, they give you an airport like cart and tell you good luck - I was misinformed regarding the car, ended up paying 30 euros per day for an indoor parking while I clearly indicated in the phone I needed a place where i can charge my electric car. On check out the young lady told me: do you have proof of that on a written format: strong commercial sense this one lady, she might have chosen the wrong career path in hospitality - the cherry on the cake was when I needed to charge my car and their night host, let’s call him Mr D, the first letter of his first name but also the first letter of his behavior towards me told me he cannot help to charge for 30 minutes as I had not reserved the place (see point above). On the charging spot, the 2 cars standing were not even electric ones. I told him that’s fine the cable is long enough I can park in front of the other cars and charge it to which again, very inflexibly he said no because people cannot drive out if they want to, to which I said it is fine I ll stay there and move the car if anyone comes - to which he again said inflexibly no - at this point I lost my mind and another staff from the bar intervened and solved the situation. The rudeness of this mr D to which his incapacity to be customer oriented is only matched by his incapacity to express himself intelligently have ruined my view of this hotel. Last one I told this mr D to call his supervisor, he refused. Incredible.
Be the first to ReplyGood hotel but DO NOT PAY EXTRA FOR TERRACE
We very much liked this hotel but want to warn others not to book a terrace room at an extortionate extra cost. We thought we would treat ourselves to the suite with the terrace - this was a big mistake. The suite and the hotel were lovely and I would stay again. The position is excellent as the hotel is very central yet tucked just away from the main noise of the town. The room was lovely - air conditioned, clean, spacious and quiet. The breakfast was good and the evening meal in the restaurant also very nice. The problem was the awful terrace which we had paid extra for. Whilst it was a good size it had absolutely no view - just of the high walls of other buildings which were a few metres away! I think the bins or kitchen doors were at the bottom. We went to the desk to complain and were told that as it was after 4pm we couldn't change rooms - the staff were not very interested. I asked whether all the terrace rooms had this view and was told yes!!! All terrace rooms were at the back of the hotel - looking at walls. I was appalled that the hotel is charging so such extra for these terraces - they really are just smoking areas (a very plain table and chairs were provided with an ash tray). If you look at the picture on the website it implies a pretty, airy terrace. Whilst I didn't expect to see the sea from my terrace - I did think the view might be better than a close up of some plain walls. I am very upset that we paid so much for this and want to warn others not to be tempted to book one!
