Glovers Alley by Andy McFadden Dublin 2 Reviews from The Last Year
Delicious but…
Restaurant was quiet the night I was there, when we arrived the service felt a little slow /confused for this calibre of restaurant. As the night progressed it is clear the service is excellent and the young man articulating each dish is impressive. But it does lack warmth. I had scallop starter, amazing. Texture and flavour, wow. I had to slow myself down to enjoy it and then didn’t want to leave any drops of flavour in the plate. Turbot and lobster main was good, lobster roll especially. Turbot and plate garnish were not as interesting as I expected… Strawberry dessert was delicious full stop, I almost licked the plate. 5 stars because it would be unfair to classify this as 4 star food, but there are things that can be improved. Rob.
Glovers Alley Restaurant, Fitzwilliam Hotel.
We were staying at the Fitzwilliam on our first night in Ireland and booked the rerstaurant for convenience but had a great surprise. The service and food are excedlent. We also had breakfast, equally as good.
Come back Michelin, you forgot to give them the 2nd star!
Amazing menu brought to life by a great team of waiting staff. The aromas, the presentation, the flavours, the decor & ambience - all absolutely first class! Enjoyed the tasting menu from start to finish and have to say it’s impressed me more than other 2 ** menus I’ve had. Would 100% recommend and we will definitely be back!
A real treat from start to finish - faultless.
I was a little nervous this restaurant would be stuffy and pretentious, being a Michelin Starred establishment , I need’nt have been. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. Relaxed but with everything under precise control and staff waiting on your every need. On seating we were asked of any allergies or dietary requirements. I advised that I don’t eat meat but do eat fish and was correctly identified as a pescatarian. We had booked for lunch, for starters I had the asparagus and my wife the celeriac with foie gras. I was concerned with the size of the portions (Will we need a visit to a fast food establishment on the way home? We didn’t). Every morsel was a delight. The flavour, the combination, the presentation all worked in harmony. For mains I had the John Dory and my wife the squab. Both were works of art and gastronomic delights. The whole meal was a symphony of oos and aahs! The food deliver on every level. No I didn’t have to loosen my belt, no the plate wasn’t heaving with food but it left us thrilled and satisfied. I was recommended a white wine and was delighted I took the advice, a Czech wine both crisp and full of flavour. We began our food journey with melt in the mouth savoury meringues as an amuse bouche and a pair of onion and cheddar ultra light and delicate tartlets and bookended our meal with a cheese course. The cheese selection was wonderful with melt in the mouth made in house crackers. (I hate restaurants that serve made in-house agricultural biscuits that are too course and lacking in flavour to enhance the cheese - these weren’t those). The cheese was at room temperature and perfectly ripe and those wonderful crackers along with relish and honey made it a great conclusion to our meal, but wait….. the great coffee that followed was served with petit fours to expire for. Two nougat and two chocolate that were made by angels. I am a fussy fecker but I couldn’t find fault with a single course, surroundings or service, it was a pure delight. Yes, but it cost a fortune I hear you say - well no. We have had substantially inferior meals for close on the cost of our meal in Glovers Alley. It was a special treat, yes, but as a treat it was well priced and value for money.
Disappointing, not a Michelin star experience.
Not sure how these guys have a Michelin star. From available service was poor, uncoordinated and generally frustrating. The wine choice is lack lustre with the choice of wine by the glass extremely poor. The food was ok but the delays in service and request for condiments taking longer than expected added a frustration that is not conducive to Michelin star experience. The bill was by far the quickest thing to arrive at our table. If you’re looking for a Michelin star experience, I wouldn’t recommend glovers alley.
Well deserved
Friendly welcome, calm atmosphere, all staff smiling and attentive, star of the show was the suckling pig done five ways, amazing flavors, can’t wait to go back.
Perfection
After doing some research about where to eat on our upcoming trip to Dublin, we decided to book Glovers Alley, and we weren't disappointed! From the minute we walked through the door, you could feel the quality and ambience of the place. The staff were ultra attentive, especially our waiter Daiven. The Sommelier helped us choose a great bottle of wine (Chablis), and we opted for the tasting menu, with the extra cheese course. Daiven talked us through each course, he was very knowledgeable about the food and was keen to hear our feedback at the end of each course and the end of the meal. The highlight courses for us were the Squab Pigeon and Foie Gras (the Foie Gras was a supplement, but it was definitely worth having, it was delicious!!), our second favourite course was the last one which was a white chocolate mousse, with a round of milk chocolate and mango sorbet. By this point in the meal, we were getting quite full, so we were happy with how light, but tasty, it was! The cheddar cheese tart with chive powder that they served as petit four was also incredible and very morish, one each just was not enough. We are lucky enough to eat at quite a few Michelin star restaurants, and this is probably our second ever favourite! When considering the venue, atmosphere, service, wine, and, of course, the food, it just had everything and was a great all-rounder. We honestly could not fault our experience in the slightest.
Worth a visit
A perfect place in the middle of Dublin for a nice meal. I had the vegetarian course. The food, presentation, service was excellent. Definitely worth the Michelin star and more.
How a Michelin star restaurant should be
From start to finish, the service, atmosphere and most of all, the food, was exquisite We opted for the lunch menu with a nice bottle of Chablis. The lamb is some of the best I have ever had. I will certainly be visiting again when back in the city. A must for anyone who Is in Dublin but I would recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
Michelin without pretense
While in Dublin we wanted a special meal and we were not disappointed when we chose Glovers Alley. Its décor is nautical art deco. It is relaxed but attentive service. Our server was attentive when helping us select a wine with no upsell in the assistance. We selected a 3 course meal and all were well prepared and presented. As with all prefixed presentations it is expected that the table, not the individual selected the same number of courses. While there is bar service for the restaurant there is not a bar where one might enjoy a cocktail before the meal so best not arrive early for a bar experience. the tables for two where we were seated are a bit close and as it happened we started chatting with the couple at the next table who invited us for an after dinner drink at the Shelbourne. A plus for the meal.
Hot dishes warm our eyes and our body rejoices
Very minimalist place Place of design taste Place where the dishes arrive with a curiosity of the eyes first of all then the explosion of taste!!! a gentle treat….. where the delicacy of the products…. Very good game meat….the Wine remains eternally French….. top organic wine..!! Anyway, a moment. To do
