Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Go someplace else for a simple meal.
$22 for a cheese burger that was not cooked to medium rare like I asked, over salted and French fries that were the last little bits in the bottom of the frier is ridiculous. If you can't do a simple dish right, why would I trust that a more complicated, and expensive, one? The staff was amazing and the only reason I didn't send the food back.
Wanted a great steak, but was dusappointed
Tough steak, cold potato, not enough Caesar dressing, poor service - not once did they ask how we were doing and more. House salad tasted like out of bottle.
Not suitable for large group booking
Attended a group booking. Food was poor, service was fine but would not recommend a large group booking. Desserts were best part

I understand the rationale asking for a credit card with reservations however as a regular I offended and would rather not make a reservation. If we find the restaurant busy we'll eat somewhere else. There are plenty of alternative choices in the neighborhood.

Love this area and this place but over the years, this place started taking a dip in terms of service and food quality. With reservations, still had to wait half an hour to get seated. Food wasn't that great for what they charge. The only thing they really have going for them is their location :(
We arrived early, at 5 p.
m., for a table of 2. Soon after we were seated, a table of 8 sat beside us. The way the table of 8 was situated blocked me in; to get out, we needed to move our table. Be sure you visit the restroom before being seated. The service was a 10, excellent. We had a crab avocado appetizer, which was also excellent. My wife ordered Sea Bass; she said it was superb. Gibsons had Prime Rib on the menu, as I order this rarely, but I love it; I ordered the 12 oz Prime Rib. The Prime Rib arrived at our table more like 20 oz, and The waiter said professionally, "The chief must like you." Well..... I know why it was a large piece; it was not enjoyable, almost not edible, there was significant connective tissue, and fat in the meat itself where you could not chew it enough before swallowing. It was not the same quality as the steaks that Gibsons is known for. Overall, Gibsons is an excellent choice; stick to what they're good at and known for......Steaks, I'm being told the seafood is also very good. p.s. It was our anniversary, my wife mentioned that to them, at the end of the meal they brought us a desert that was fantastic. Very nice of them.

If I could leave more than *****5 stars***** I would!!! First time here and it did not disappoint. Our server Daniel was the best!! Friendly, engaging and a great sense of humor. He helped us navigate their menu and actually under sold us on the sides we ordered. The food was as he described.....THE BEST! All of our steaks were cooked to perfection. We were so full after our meal but when we saw the size of their carrot cake, we had to take 1 to go. It'll feed a family of 5 for sure. We told Daniel the next time we're in Chicago, we will definitely be back! Great job Gibsons!

I came here on a Friday night with my family and loved how lively the place was. We took our time to start with drinks at the bar and then headed over to our table. The best part of this experience was how amazing our waiter was. However, the food fell short. We ordered the crab cake as an appetizer, which tasted fresh, but more bread crumbs than actual crab. For dinner I order the filet which I thought was fantastic and perfectly cooked with bearnaise sauce. I also tried the New York strip, which I thought was just okay and a little small. For dessert we ordered the cherry pie, which was my least favorite thing we ordered. It was not warm enough but the vanilla ice cream was nice and creamy.

Simply the best steakhouse in Chicago!! Our server and the whole waitstaff were excellent. We had a 5 star dining experience. I can't wait to go back. We ordered the ahi tuna 3 ways, shrimp cocktail and rib eye. We went for lunch, my son ordered the hamburger (only available at lunch). Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. It was fine dining and white table cloth service. There is an impressive bar and a piano player when you walk in. Everything about Gibsons was first class.

We flew in from LA and heard we must try Gibson's, so we rushed to get there a few minutes before 10:30 on a Friday night. Reservations highly recommended! The bar area is first come first serve and it was packed! We walked to the back and just our luck a table was leaving. Score! We only had a few moments to get our order in, but we made it! Service: our server was quick to get our order in before the kitchen closed and was very nice and attentive. We ordered the filet, sea bass and twice baked potato. The steak was delicious! The sea bass was also tasty, and the twice baked potato can feed at least three, but is cheesy and delicious. We skipped dessert because each one can feed a family of 5, and what a waste! It would be nice to have a smaller potion dessert option. Overall we loved the vibe, super busy and loud and fun. The service was great and the food and drinks were also excellent!

Went for a birthday celebration, as usual everything was excellent! We had already decided we wanted a salad and the skirt steak with the lobster mac n cheese. Rene our server was very hospitable and helped us decide on our additional choices. We tried the mussels and salmon for the first time and they were both amazing. It was a great celebration down to the drinks and dessert! Rene is definitely a plus to your organization!
Amazing dining experience.
Our waiter (didn't catch his name but he is from Serbia) was very friendly, excellent with my children and the food was incredible.

Fun for a drink and to listen to someone play the piano but I thought the food was not flavorful and was all dripping with fat of some sort.
Gibson steaks never disappoint always cooked to perfection
Gibson steaks never disappoint always cooked to perfection with great flavor. Ordered the mushrooms as a side and they didn't have much flavor but everything else was excellent.
Incredible experience.
Had the tomahawk steak. Worth the price. The crust was so flavorful and the meat was so tender and juicy. 1 order of fries is enough for a family of 4 and they taste amazing! Got a chocolate mousse cake for dessert. 1 slice was the size of my head. Our waitress was so nice and accommodating. This place lives up to the hype!
Fantastic environment and service! The food was pretty good
Fantastic environment and service! The food was pretty good too. The steak was cooked to perfection but lacked in flavor. I personally enjoy less seasoned steaks but this one actually needed something added. The twice baked potato was pretty good too. The Old Fashioned was served over small ice which made it taste watered down. Will go back but not my favorite steakhouse.

Located on Rush, this popular restaurant is always bustling with customers. The Lighthouse of the Blind always picks this venue to host casino night. There's five stud poker, roulette, dice game, and black jack. For extra cash, you get extra chips and raffle tickets. The food was plentiful with steak, salad and charcuterie board. Appetizers with lamb and huge shrimp were passed out. The dessert was decadent with chocolate cake and carrot cake.
Steaks were cooked to perfection! You can feel the history
Steaks were cooked to perfection! You can feel the history and tradition in that place it is covered in memorabilia and pictures! Service was impeccable the staff made it a special and fun moment. Due note it's an extremely busy place make reservations and get there on time as you will have a lot other hungry people there!

Great meal as always, our table enjoyed the WR, Filet, and Filet sliders. Only thing is that our table for 6 (four adults and two toddlers) was awkwardly squeezed in between a few others, so it was very cramped. But still a great outing.

We arrived on time for our 7:30 reservation and were seating by a table inside and when we requested a different table (birthday special occasion and wanted to sit on the patio) they accommodated us quickly and were completely understanding! Our server was amazing and gave great recommendations- must do the blue cheese dressing on the house salad it's SO GOOD! had to add the bernese sauce which is a must from now on. they also brought out a nice birthday treat which we really appreciated. Overall worth the cost as the restaurant really is beautiful and the food is delicious. Can never go wrong by spending a saturday night at Gibsons
Gibsons care more about themselves than the customer
I have been coming to Chicago for over 15 years and always go to Gibsons when I’m in town. After tonight’s experience it will be a long time before I’m back again. Had a 7pm reservation and requested to be seated in the main dining room. They made me wait in a very crowed bar and then put us in the porch area and not the main dining room. To me the staff has lost its customer service value. They tell you how great they are and deliver less and charge more. Meal was average and to treat a repeat customer as if they don’t need/want you is a terrible feeling. Needless to say between not listening to my request, putting us in a packed bar for over 45 minutes and then not honoring my request is terrible customer service. We had to ask our waiter 2-3 times for items we requested. Food was good, not great. Service was average at best. I think Gibsons will be losing more customers as friends mentioned similar experiences. Gibsons has lost sight of no customers equals no business. It’s the beginning of the end for Gibsons.
Gibson’s Yummmm
The best entres for the night were the ribeye steak, the filet mignon and the Chilean Sea Bass. We all had the house salad and their dressings are all homemade and were absolutely delicious. We also had sides of mushrooms, asparagus, brussel sprouts and double baked potato. The portions are really large and we had so much to take home it looked like we had been grocery shoppping! If you don’t want leftovers, I recommend splitting a meal. Great, attentive service and wonderful meal. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g35805-d455964-r941338679-Gibsons_Bar_Steakhouse-Chicago_Illinois.html#
Not as good anymore
It was for more than 20 years the top spot for steaks. It is not anymore. The pricy steaks are average and mostly burnt. The wine list lost a lot of good ones from the past and is mostly overpriced. We paid 180 dollars for a wine that cost you at most 20 dollars in Europe for that quality. We will go somewhere else after being loyal for more than 20 years.
Gibsons is a must visit restaurant if you are in Chicago.
We came here again during our weekend visit to Chicago and it did not disappoint. It is always very busy, though so definitely make a reservation ahead of time if you don't like waiting around to get a table. If you are able to eat early, I would recommend that as well. We had a reservation for 5:30pm and it was so packed even at that time. They have a great wine list if you like wine with a nice variety from low to high end. This time we tried the Bloom's Field Pinot Noir and it was a very nice bottle that apparently is very hard to get in wine shops. They have a really cool bar in the front of the restaurant that is always packed and the place to be since we can't ever seem to get a seat. There is a guy playing the piano and it's a really cool and vibrant atmosphere but very packed so if you don't like crowds, then Gibsons is not the place for you. I ordered the filet again this time and while it's not the best filet I've had, it's still good. I think next time I will try something different and order the pork chop. Ok, so their desserts!! Are very shareable and is a must share because there's no way one person can eat the gigantic mousse pie or carrot cake, which looked pretty good if you like carrot cake. I asked if they had the key lime pie and we got that this time. It was very good but we couldn't finish it. It was just too much food.
Filet is flat like a Sirloin and not thick and Juicy like they use to be. Never go back again. Too bad !
Gibsons has gone Downhill believe me. I ordered a Filet Mignon. When I received it I thought they gave me the wrong Steak since it was not thick but thin and not Tender like they use to be. I thought it was a Sirloin? Believe me I think it was. I complained to three people and they all said that even though it was thin it was flat and larger around and weighed the same. What sort of Customer Service us that. I have been going for many years taking Customers out during The National Restaurant Show. Not this year or future years.
came here for the first time yesterday for lunch.
my server kathleen was very sweet and attentive, & the crab cake and crème brûlée i ordered were delightful. will definitely be back!
Overcrodwed, slow service
We came here for a special anniversary dinner. We had reservations, 8pm. the place was extremely crowded and after waiting to see a hostess we waited a few minutes and we were seated at a booth right when you walk in, hardly a nice spot , it was a booth where everyone has to pass by you. The noise level was crazy and we elected to wait for a better table. We sat finally in a 2 seater table in the corner, more quiet. The tables are right next to one another, the servers have multiple tables and wait times can be more than what one expects from a high end restaurant. Nothing special here if your celebrating anything, go elsewhere if your expecting more.
Very good but get seated downstairs
We were seated upstairs which was nice but not as classy as downstairs. Service was outstanding. Prime rib was very good. If you are there on Friday go for the lobster bisque. Only concern was we felt rushed the bread was pulled and soup out in 10 min.
Anyone with a physical disability be ware
This is our normal go to restaurant for lunch my review is based on management not on the food which is excellent though overpriced nor the service which is always decent. For some reason in the last yr or so Gibsons has chosen to lock their front door entrance forcing people to only use the revolving door so anyone who is handicapped cannot enter not only have they locked the front door entrance they also put objects in front of the front door so that even if someone from the inside opens the door you cannot enter because they only want everyone using the revolving doors. I have spoken 5 separate times to management about this and that's it's unfair to discriminate against people who are not able bodied. Today we dined here for lunch and had to knock for a very long time and very loudly before someone heard us and unlocked the door so we could enter. This is clearly a violation of the ADA. After months of trying to get them to please accommodate my disabled daughter I finally contacted the city who will be sending an inspector out there. It's a shame that a restaurant known for its hospitality would treat individuals like this
Excellent experience!
Gibsons was recommended to me by multiple people. I almost didn’t stay because the bar was so busy I didn’t think I would be able to find a spot. But when I did I was greeted by Mark, the bartender who has been there for decades. What a joy! He was so engaging and welcoming! The food was great, the atmosphere is lively and most of all the staff is outstanding! So glad I made a point of visiting this Chicago staple!
Best steak house ever!
This place easily took the cake for the best steak house I’ve ever been to. Out waiter was Michael, and he is the MAN! I had never had an oyster so naturally I order one, and he gave me the whole run down and process to eat one (absolutely loved the oyster by the way). We were a group of 5 and naturally we all wanted slightly different things, but my man Michael suggested that we get the 48oz porterhouse and the 32oz tomahawk which is what we did, and oh my god they were some of the best cuts of meat I’ve put into my mouth. The tomahawk was to die for! Overall I’d rate an easy 8/5, if I lived anywhere near Chicago and also wasn’t a broke college student I’d 100% come again!
Great food and service
Mazanaga was wonderful. Helped with accommodations on the menu. Great food and great service. We loved the atmosphere as well!
