Very enjoyable and tasty set menu.
Fantastic set menu. Every course was enjoyable. Service very good. Priced at a reasonable rate for Chicago. Would definitely go back.

We had been trying to get a reservation through Resy for a while, and we were not disappointed. All of our food was delicious and our server was very helpful with our selections. It was a delightful dinner overall, the atmosphere was probably the only thing that was lacking slightly. We would highly recommend to Mediterranean food fans.

This Michelin-starred restaurant may look a little informal, but these folks earned their star and then some. It's a four-course meal, starting with hummus and amazing, right-out-of-the-wood-fired-oven, steaming-when-you-open-it pita, through salads, mains and dessert. It is difficult to describe how this meal was as amazing as it was, but each dish took normal things (hummus, carrots, etc.) to new heights with its combination of flavors and textures. Everything was done to perfection, and the food is copious -- but save room for dessert, which varies with availability of key ingredients -- we had a fresh cherry pastry that was to die for. One suggestion: go with a slightly larger group -- the desserts and hummus are served for two people (i.e. you get one dessert for two people), and you will want to sample more than one!!! Mains and salads, everybody gets one -- definitely eat family style, as again, the range of tastes is phenomenal.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious, fun, and flavorful - pricey but worth it
A delicious and fun experience, albeit quite overpriced and a somewhat rushed. Superb and creative drinks with unique flavors and aromas. Especially impressed by arak menu, their specialty drinks, and wine list. Our server was engaging and knowledgeable. Ordering is easy and all the dishes are shared. Highlights of the food included the pits, hummus thin and and hummus masabacha, all the salatim but especially the ezme, also the carrots, heirloom tomatoes, and bass. The standout was the maqlubah. The desserts were good, but not great, which was fine since we were stuffed, though the mahleb cheesecake was excellent. The only downside was the servers who brought out several dishes at once and were quick to clear, creating a bit of a rushed feeling. We weren’t able to hear or ask what was being brought out since they were working so quickly. For $165 per person and everything else being so wonderful, I’d have expected not to be rushed. But it still is 5 stars.

This is a Michelin one star? I was looking forward to this meal with my friends on my visit to Chicago this weekend, but ultimately left feeling disappointed. While the starters - the dips and little snacks and pita were all very good, the mains were only okay (the sausage was not great, the pastrami/make your own reuben was good but gimmicky, and the fish was okay but lacked a vibrant flavor). Desserts were unremarkable - flavorless cheesecake and some chocolate babka rif whose only remarkable feature was the fresh raspberries accompanying the pastry. The starter falafels were the true highlight, while the foie gras dish was overly sweet and cloying, and the heirloom tomato salad somewhat flavorless. Service was okay, though slow to bring drink refills when requested, and we were seated in a backroom that had little character. My friends who I went with had been before and loved it - back when it was an a la carte restaurant. They walked away from this meal disappointed, as did I, given the hype. Honestly, for the price point, this was disappointing and the quality/ quantity of food was not up to snuff. I'm surprised this is a Michelin one star place, as I've been to several others and found the service/ food superior at similar price points. It was expensive and not quite worth the price point, though there were some high points, as discussed.

The pita introduction was amazing and I enjoyed the wine pairing despite small pours. Tgen, it was downhill from there. This restaurant is not worthy of a Michelin star. They placed a $10 surcharge on a lobster course. The lobster was one piece and smaller than a piece of shrimp…flavor was over charred and served with a purée that tasted like baby food. The lamb was encrusted in what looked and tasted like a corn dog. The bill was $300 and I left feeling taken advantage of. The night before, we dined at at Armitage ale house and the service, ambiance and generosity was amazing. Save your money. Don’t go here. Their Michelin star needs to be deflated.
Be the first to ReplyGalit - Chicago's MICHELIN rated Mediterranean deliciousness!
Wow. If you feel like a splurge and a pamper all at once, you need to reserve a table at Galit. Not sure I had ever experienced a Michelin rated restaurant before, but this place really raises the bar. Galit is a Mediterranean cuisine restaurant, and the house-made pita is worth the price of admission, but every single aspect of the dining was just as top notch. We were lucky to have a friend with a personal connection to the restaurant, and got us a reservation. They really like him there because everyone was happy to see him! Even the owner made the rounds and checked in on all the tables so we got to meet him. The menu is unique and apparently changes frequently so you might get different choices when you go, but I don't doubt for a second that it won't blow you away no matter what they are serving. Many thanks to Carly and the entire Galit team!

We had a wonderful meal at Galit. Each dish was so creatively prepared and so delicious. I enjoy Middle Eastern food and this was the most outstanding meal I have had of that cuisine in years. The waitstaff are personable and professional and they added a really sweet touch for our special occasion there. They did a great job substituting for some food allergies I have and were really attentive to that. The meal was one of those rare ones I find memorable over the course of time. I recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly. You really need to reserve here well in advance to get a time in the evening that you want. I can't wait to go back!

The restaurant was recommended by a friend for our anniversary dinner and it was the best! The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about what they were serving. The food was fantastic and their wine list outstanding, with lots of unusual wines. We hope to return one day.

Since Galit was awarded a Michelin star for 2022, we thought it was time for a return visit to this modern Israeli restaurant. We're glad we went. Now they offer only a 4-course tasting meal but you still get choices. They start you off w/ one of 3 hummus plus fluffy house-made pita, nicely charred and warm from their oven, together with 4 small dishes of salatim. These are small dishes of various spreads, pickled vegetables and labneh to combine (or not) and eat with the pita. Then they bring mezzes, one per diner, which are warm appetizers. Out of 6 choices we selected foie gras filled blintzes w/ blueberry compote and slivered almonds plus the Iraqi kubbeh halab (minced lamb w/ currants in a deep fried ball with a crunchy saffron infused crust). There were 2 of each to share. Then you get a small main course from the coal fired grill. We chose Tangier sausage and Armenian pastrami. The pastrami came with a Yemeni flatbread the was flaky and layered like strudel dough. Finally one dessert to share. We arrived around 6 pm and were immediately seated. We'd reserved seats at the kitchen counter facing the action. Service was cordial and very smooth, Our waitress Lauren checked on us at intervals to make sure we had everything we need and were pleased with our selections. As each dish was brought, the runner announced the ingredients in them and, if asked, offered advice on how best to eat them. On a week night, though it filled up, there were a few empty seats and the noise level was not too loud. It was an ample meal. We left full and happy with two wrapped cookies they handed us with the check to take home. They charge $68 per person + an "optional" 5% fee to cover employee health insurance. With drinks, tax and tip, it was close to $220 for the two of us. Not cheap but fair, we thought. Parking is scarce; it's best to take public transit, cab or ride-share. They are still checking to make sure patrons are vaccinated though they have relaxed the mask requirement for guests. Staff all wear them.

Watch the ratings skyrocket on this one. One of a kind. “Middle Eastern” undersells it. Hard to describe menu but copious amounts of wide variety, all of which were exceptional. Reasonably priced for amount and quality of food. Great great service. Cool vibe. Loved it.

The food is mostly very good. BUT the place is missing one of the Arad/Israeli food culture - Generosity! Too sofisticated for its own good
Be the first to ReplyGreat middle Easter flavor
4-course menu includes hummus, salad, main course and dessert. Good selection and portion. If you go in with a bigger party, you should be able to taste a variety of tasty food. The service was good. The dining environment was cozy. Was surprised to see almost a full house on weekday.

Luckily, our daughter made reservations in advance as it appeared very busy. Prix fixe meal at $65, plus tax and 5% surcharge (a little higher than we were used to). Food was delicious with lots to taste and share. Helpful staff with very good service.
Be the first to ReplyFun and delicious modern Mediterranean
Definitely a hot spot in Chicago right now; make your reservation early! We ate outdoors; thus, we didn’t really experience the restaurant’s vibe or ambience, although the outdoor table was just fine and it’s in a fun neighborhood with lots to see on the street. Our server was super-nice and provided useful guidance about the menu. Service was attentive throughout the evening. Delicious modern Mediterranean cooking, with especially beautiful plating. Shareable dishes that make for great conversation with friends. The hummus is among the best you’ll taste, and it’s cool that they do so many variations. Plus, the wood-fired pita with which the hummus is served is totally delicious. Main dishes also impressed; the fish was particularly excellent, as was a mushroom dish. There was a variety of interesting textures on the plate, and really distinct and strong flavors, including lots of pickles. Definitely a fun and interesting meal. Excited to return, especially to eat indoors. A fun Chicago spot, worth a visit.
