You can never really go wrong with the Trust restaurant
You can never really go wrong with the Trust restaurant group and Fort Oak is no exception. When you're walk in, you're greeted by a beautiful curved bar with pieces of driftwood suspended from the ceiling. The aesthetics of the place feels very inviting and you can't go wrong if you sit at the bar, on their outdoor patio, or in the interior. True to trust restaurant group form, all of the food is extremely flavorful and well seasoned. The service is always spot on just like it is every time I go to these restaurants. Now onto the food. I would say 99% of things on the menu are excellent so I don't really think you will be upset by anything you order but here are some of my favorites. - Ahi Tuna Appetizer: Umami bomb in the best way. One of my favorite ahi appetizers in SD - Scallop Aguachile: super refreshing and delicious - Oysters (especially on oyster Monday in the bar!!) - Sourdough bread with tangy whipped butter - Goat milk cavatelli: I dream about this pasta - Charred Caulilini: this is like a hybrid mix between broccoli and cauliflower and I'm here for it. Excellent smoky flavor served with a fantastic aioli 10/10 would recommend. Check it out!
Be the first to ReplyThe drinks are great as well as the bar atmosphere.
Why the two star rating: There is a female manager with long brown hair (in a pony tail) that usually roams the restaurant and helps out at the front host podium. For a manager of a restaurant where you're supposed to be welcoming, cordial, and friendly-- she couldn't have been more opposite of that. I've encountered her on multiple occasions and at first, I just thought she was having a bad day, which happens to us all (even though I'd argue we all should have some composure). Every time I see her, she has a grimace look on her face and she's not friendly at all. I come into this place a lot with my family and bring work colleagues here and she consistently has a negative first impression with those I bring. If this was my restaurant, I'd prefer it being managed by someone who is more inviting and pleasant, as she effectively represents Fort Oak's culture and name.

Great food & service! Recommend the dry aged ribeye--cooked to perfection! Will definitely be back!

If you're looking to go here for drinks and aps, definitely do it! Slightly pricy drinks but definitely worth it as far as experience and taste go, however, stay away from the entrees here. Had a few different drinks like the Whiskey Sour and Cadillac Margarita which were amazing. The taretare, steamed mussels and mouse were all great apps, but the limited amount of entrees with the combo of them not being that good brought the whole experience down. Got family style with the 40-day dry aged ribeye (totally not worth it) plus two of the fish entrees and all were not worth the price. The pork chop was great, service and experience was great but save your money and get your actual dinner somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyQuite possibly one of the best restaurants we have been to.
The pork chop was worth every penny & bite! The appetizer was so good & was an explosions of flavors!! I forgot the name but it was seriously so good! Cocktails were nicely made! And our waiter was just great!! We didn't have a reservation but we were seated in the bar area and honestly the ambiance there was great. We loved it and can't wait to come back!

I've seen this building when in Mission Hills a couple of times, but finally went into it to try Fort Oak! We visited on a Monday night and we were surprised by how busy the actual restaurant was. We sat at a bar table and were served the entire night by a very nice and attentive waiter. When we told her it was both our first times there, she spent a lot of time going through the menu with us to make sure we understood what went into everything, since my friend has an allergy. I ordered the vespa (not pictured), which is an apple flavored mocktail. It had a extremely strong citrus, so if you like that flavor then you'd enjoy the Vespa. We ordered the sourdough bread, which came out steaming. The bread itself was very chewy and delicious. The butter was not for me - it was very tangy and not very pleasent in my opinion. We also ordered the Kanpachi ceviche, which I found very oily. Since the dish did not come with chips, we assumed there would be a crunchy element in the dish, but that was not the case. It was also extremely small for the price. Would not order again. Finally we tried the lamb merguez kefta, which had a delicious flavor. The lamb felt almost too undercooked for me, but it was a great bite altogether. The highlight of my meal was definitely the mocktail and the bread (sans butter). With that being said, I would not run back here.
Be the first to ReplyI came for the $1 happy hour oysters with a friend.
I recommend getting there early or making a reservation. My friend and I arrived at 5 pm and didn't account for the wait to get seated and to order the oysters, so we ran out of time to order a second round. This would be perfect for a date night! The oysters were yummy and we ordered a few apps and drinks to start with. I will be coming back!
Be the first to ReplyGot sick on their oysters during the holidays.
When I notified the restaurant, they were very rude about it.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is very good as is the service.
Not sure what the price is because I was hosted but my friend didn't seem concerned. I will go back.
Be the first to ReplyI am pleased that we got to eat here.
The drinks were great and left us feeling nice! Our service was excellent, best service ever by Miguel. If you're fortunate enough to get Miguel then you're in for a treat. He was attentive, pleasant, patient, and kind. He explained the answers to the questions we had about the food and he was very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered several Small Plates and two large plates. All delicious! We had lamb Jaffa, we had trout, we had cauliflower, we had the liver mousse and more. All worthy of trying. The one downside is the noise and the acoustics, but we went at a time when it was quite busy. The decor was classic and elegant. Great vibe. Do recommend
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here for $1 oysters Monday.
Amazing service! We got 3 dozens of oysters, delicious & definitely not the buffet kind. Added the salad, sourdough bread and the fried fish shareable were good as well! Definitely coming back for dinner since everyone raved about their pork chop : )
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant.
I love the vibe and feel of Fort Oak. We went here with a reservation on a Saturday night. We got here a little early and sat at the bar for a drink while we waited for friends. The menu wasn't super extensive but the dishes we got were absolutely amazing. We had ceviche, their sourdough bread, the cavatappi, quail, a pork loin, and a broccoli salad...all were flavorful and delicious. It was fun to share as a table and the service was on point. Definitely one to keep on your rotation.

Loved this place, I've been wanting to come here for their treat they share once a week, dollar oysters on Mondays 4-6 at the bar/high tops. Of course I got the oysters, a dozen. They were Mexican oysters (I think and I'm sure we good now) I also had there burger, caramelized onions with truffle sold me.. the patty was a good size and cooked to perfection. delicious, didn't disappoint. This place has nice ambiance, noise level is good and lighting just a touch bright. Otherwise, very nice. I enjoyed the decor and the colors are perfect, I would definitely bring my significant other here. I sat at the bar and the bartender girl took really good care of us and made sure there were no allergies, very attentive. She made their signature month cocktail or the special cocktail on HH but it consisted off rum and some citrus, it was delish! Overall, great experience and I would definitely recommend. Can't wait for my next outing at Fort Oak.

There's only one negative and that this place is a little spendy . So likely not for the casual outing but great for dates or a bit bougie hang with friends. The food is so good and the presentation and diversity of ingredients and interesting plates is something to be desired. Whoever is working that menu, bravo! The service is great and the restaurant itself is such a cool layout. There are four different seating areas (one not really used) and the decor is different and well thought out. It's a vibe for sure. The drink selection is great with clear mixology skills. They have happy hour only on Mondays. I would not recommend bringing little kids here but it's an inclusive environment.

Received a gift card to this restaurant from our friends and enjoyed a very nice dinner and drinks here - the cavatelli was very tasty and all our drinks were solid too. Cool ambiance and quick, friendly service. Honestly would probably not come back because the prices are very steep and not worth it in my opinion but had a nice experience here regardless!

This place was great! Came for the $1 oysters on Mondays; they did not disappoint. The ones served were from Mexico. Very tasty! I had three of their cocktails, all with Mezcal. Bartender knew what he was doing as all three were delicious. Their hotdog is made at the restaurant as well as their burgers. I only had the hot dog with all the trimmings; also tasty. I for sure recommend this place for its food and its service!
Be the first to ReplyLegitimately one of the best pork chops I've ever had.
Pros: Came here as a recommendation from a friend and I'm sure glad we did. Great atmosphere and they helped celebrate our 5 year wedding anniversary. Was so impressed by how delicious the pork chop was. It came sliced which is something you don't see often but as mentioned, it's top 2 pork chops I've ever had. Branzino came highly recommended by the waiter and it did not disappoint. It arrived deboned and they even offered to serve it without the head and/or tail but we wanted all of it. Don't worry, We didn't eat the head. We had the pear for desert and that also was delightful although had a bit more raisins than I would like but we still killed it. Drinks were also good. Ended our night with a delicious espresso martini Cons: None. Overall: Can't wait to come back here. I see oyster happy hour in the future.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and quality food.
The cocktail choices were also very impressive in addition to a few off the menu items. Great for a special occasion or random Saturday meal. The oysters were some of the larger ones I've had in the San Diego area, which was an added plus.

This was our first visit to Fort Oak, and it won't be the last. The restaurant was a short Uber trip from Carte Hotel (read my other review if interested).Fort Oak has indoor and outdoor seating, and we sat outside. The weather was cold, but they had ample heat lamps, so it wasn't an issue. The wait staff was fast and provided excellent recommendations for food and wine. The food was prepared as ordered and was terrific. Each dish was curated, and we were impressed with the attention to detail. We would visit again.

Absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!The food? My favorite burger to date. The service? It doesn't get any better. Attitude and timely manner goss a long with me.The ambiance? Be the first to ReplyThis is hands down my favorite restaurant in San Diego.
Last visit was for Valentines Day with a group. Found a new favorite wine while waiting on our table. Chappellet Mountain Cuvée was this amazing blend of reds recommended by the bartender. I've been looking for that wine everywhere and can only order it online. Really enjoyed it. Here are my thoughts on the items I've tasted. Charred Caullini 10/10. If you live the cauliflower at Trust you WILL love this way too! What an amazing recipe. For reference I've gone to Trust just to order the Cauliflower. Hearth Grilled Branzino 8/10Goat Milk Cavatelli 8/10Apple Crisp 7/10. The apples didn't seem to be happy in this dish. Flavors didn't seem to gel with the crust. But it was ok. Heart Grilled Carrots is 10/10. I can eat a trough of these. Love the flavors with the charred Duroc Pork Chop 9/10. The smokiness is the appeal here. Chicken Fried Quail 7/10Sugar Snap Pea Salad 10/10. This is everything. I literally ate the whole plate alone and didn't share it with anyone. I couldn't stop eating it. Was in love with the mild spiciness that seemed to come from a high caliber Dijon. So! Based on these ratings when I return for my birthday in a couple weeks I'm ordering all of my faves:CarrotsCaulliniSugar Pea SaladSo to put the ratings in their proper perspective I'm not a big meat eater. I only tasted the pork chops and would never order or eat that much meat but it was really good. And my honey isn't a big meat eater either but he really enjoyed it. But my rating is because I'm not a big meat eater. And branzino is my fave and I order it wherever I go so the rating is simply because it's not one of the BEST I've had. I'm more of a veggie and salads person so I can't wait to go back for all of my faves. Hope this helps.
