Forsythia Philadelphia Reviews from The Last Year
Great modern take on the french cuisine
Our visit proved to be a delightful exploration of French cuisine. Venturing to try the Escargot, prepared with almond butter, pickled onion, and croutons, was a rewarding choice, offering a unique and enjoyable taste experience. The dry-aged duck, another highlight, was excellently prepared and rich in flavor, demonstrating the kitchen's capability to deliver well-crafted dishes. Accompanied by a well-curated selection of French wines, our meal was both sophisticated and satisfying. The restaurant's meticulous attention to detail was evident in every aspect of our dining experience, from the presentation of the dishes to the ambiance of the setting. This commitment to quality ensures that the food stands out, making it a commendable choice for those seeking an exceptional meal. We recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in experiencing refined French cuisine. It promises an impressive dining experience with its thoughtful preparation and presentation of dishes :)

Great food, portions are well served, we ordered the oysters, foi gras, lamb and duck. All were very tasteful. Ambience is casual and small with only 12 tables. Service was ok, kind but not fast. Don't if you're in a rush. Enjoy it.

Stopped by Forsythia for a drink before my reservation at Amada. Me and my friend sat at the bar and both ordered one drink each. The drinks were really good and the ambiance was nice. We were looking forward to making that our next outing for girls night. Three days later I randomly check my bank statement and see that I was charged $38.20, no big deal, I figured I paid for both drinks. I checked with my friend to be sure, she said we split the check and she was charged $20.60. I found my receipt and the total was $17.60 and I added a $2.00 tip for a total of $19.60. I was confused why I was charged $38.20, so I called the restaurant and emailed my receipt. The manager responded quickly but the explanation he provided regarding the overcharge was off putting. He stated the bartender "fat fingered" the tip amount incorrectly, instead of entering $2.00 he entered $20.60 as the tip amount??? I was issued a refund for $18.60, but I am still a little disgruntled. Unfortunately I do not think I will be visiting this restaurant again or recommending it to anyone.
It was a snow day and we were in the city.
Called the restaurant and no reservation needed as they have cancellation. This place didn't disappoint. The food was great and the service was excellent. Ambiance is good too. Highly recommend.

Last night was our first night, and Forsythia did not disappoint. Arguably the best duck I've ever had, and I've had a lot of it in other great restaurants. Chef Christopher was so kind and cool to meet. Staff was incredible and the food was spot on. A great French restaurant with a chef and staff that really cares, I highly recommend this place! Can't wait to come back for the French Laundry dinner!

Was out on a dinner date with my friend during restaurant week. Really nice place and the food was delicious

Went with a friend for restaurant week and was disappointed
Went with a friend for restaurant week and was disappointed immensely after having high expectations. Highlights overall were the Escargot and the Duck Breast. The Escargot was creamy, nutty, and tender -- the flavors complemented each other very well, and there wasn't a strong briny taste which I prefer! The duck was a little gamey, but when combined with the sauces, it strangely worked together. Everything else was either okay or flavorless. The Pocono Trout was very plain and paired with bland sides, the Salmon Crudo was scarce and the flavor was just the fish, and the citron tart was good but overly sweet (cookies-and-cream-like). Was overall expecting some unique flavors, but was not surprised or in love with anything. The service was great and the staff was super attentive, and the restaurant felt super homey in contrast to the fine dining feel of the food. Might be personal preference but I prefer bolder flavors, and this introduction to French food did not convince me otherwise, especially for the price point and small portions that left us hungrier than when we came.
We came here to check the place out for restaurant week.
The setting in the restaurant is very nice, you can semi see some prep things happening in the open area and it's nice the bar is separate from the main eating space aside from a few tables. The staff is very attentive. The 75 year old Virgin drink was nice, a non-alcoholic cocktail. Starting with the App, the sweet potato soup was okay, literally nothing to rave about in my opinion, but it isn't a negative factor to the meal. Once you stir it up I will say you get a few different flavors bouncing around, just weren't the flavors for me, I didn't really taste the crab and to be honest before writing the review I forgot it had crab in it. The bread for the table was truly the star of the night. The bread had a nice crisp edge with a soft and spongy center. It was well buttered and had flavor before the spread, which had some yogurt base I felt like but was delicious and really enhanced the bread. I would say the bread also boosted the soup if you were to break bread and dip it lightly into the soup. The entree of trout, the entire meal was bland for me, I ate it cause we were there but it is not something I would recommend or order again. The chocolate mousse I will just say wasn't for me. Our friend thoroughly enjoyed hers whereas the cherries were way to tart for me.
One of my go to spots in Philly.
Contemporary French cuisine showcased by Chef Christopher Kearse. Every time a friend asks for a recommendation, I point them here. Excellent technique, elevated flavors, and a super humble and welcoming staff. Excellent spot for a date or even casual dining. If you get the chance, say hi to the chef, he truly is an amazing and kind person. At this point, I have frequented Forsythia a number of times bringing both friends and family, so forgive me for not remembering what I ate and posting outdated food items haha Dishes: Salmon Crudo: excellent start to the meal. Really enjoyed the creamy sauce paired with the acid and the fish. Beignets These are a must, and I feel like this is their signature. Hen of the wood They char this so well and it has become one of my favorite delicacies because of this restaurant. Duck: prepared beautifully with the jus complementing the protein very well. Chocolate cake Escargot The snails are prepared very well, not gamey at all and is prepared in a savory and creamy base. Scallops: well seared, not rubbery and quite delicate. White asparagus: a delicacy also prepared and paired nicely Overall, highly recommend for locals and travelers~ they also have events that happen throughout the year such as special tasting menus. Definitely try those out!
Decided to try this restaurant out during restaurant week
Decided to try this restaurant out during restaurant week given the high ratings and will have to say it was a bit of a let down. Maybe it was just the restaurant week menu that was a let down? A lot of the items that are featured in reviews here were not included on the restaurant week menu. Anywho, onto my experience: I was able to sit down as soon as we arrived with our reservation. We shared bread with their garlicky spread. So good. The bread was crispy and the edges & soft and moist in the middle. I had the salmon crudo as an appetizer, the salmon was very fresh. For the entree, I had a trout. It was just okay. The desert was the best part of the meal, I had a citron tart.
Stellar dining by Chef Chris Kearse!
Had not bern back to Forsythia since pre Covid and really missed it. We went for the special pre fixe duck menu Buche de Noel (see photo of menu) that was offered and it wowed us. We got to share four"elevated" small plates including oysters w caviar, Wagyu beef tartare, more! Each one as beautiful as it was delicious. Regular menu was also available. The duck entree was superb. Staff is great taking great care of us. There is a wonderful bar with a great daily happy hour turning out wonderful cocktails. This is a comfortable cozy and beautiful restaurant. Across from Natl Museum American History. The

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
