A unique experience as the Chef's Table: BBQ featured.
The food has all been touched bite fire or smoke giving it a unique taste. I'm more of a big bold flavor person but I can appreciate the subtlety of the food expertly prepared. Shared the 250 day dry aged Wagyu ribeye. It is too funky for me but again I'm glad to have experienced it. Firedoor is a destination experience but unless you really enjoy the food which I moderately did, it may be more of a one and done experience.
Be the first to ReplyWow This dinner was amazing.
All is done with smoke and no mirrors. We had the five purse meal with each item better then the next I will refer you to the menu and my photos for more info or check out u tube You will not go wrong here.
Be the first to ReplyA special night out.
Everything about Firedoor is special. We had been trying to get a reservation here for months and finally got lucky as they are limited and spots go very quickly. From the moment you walk in the you can smell the wood fire and the excitement of being here and knowing that your in for a feast. The staff are great and explain everything to you from how the menu work to the different drinks and cocktails. We sat at the edge of the kitchen and were able to watch the chef's work their magic. The kitchen is fast and dynamic the way they constructed our meals. They explain the different ingredients and they use a lot of local and natural ingredients. The food was amazing and we had about eight or nine courses by the time we had finished. Having seen videos and a documentary about Firedoor make you realize the extent of the care and enjoyment they put into creating your dishes. We live every dish and especially the 200 day dry aged rib eye steak. It was amazing and melted in your mouth and I just wanted to pick up the bone and gnaw on it like a dog it was so good. But didn't obviously One of the best experiences and meals we've ever had and we look forward to coming back here and highly recommend it and Lenox and his team are amazing at what they do.
Be the first to Reply6 of us dined here last night .
We thought the dishes were beautifully executed and presented . only Hiccup was that the trout was undercooked and they promptly re- did the dish and it was succulent. One in our party did not eat his fish as he did not like fish .., the staff were very attentive and brought him lamb instead which was cooked to perfection . ( not sure why it's not part of the regular menu ) . Reason for not giving the extra star is because .. the restaurant was not conducive to dining "al fresco "., it was so warm and uncomfortable . When dining on a rich menu such as this , the room needs to be comfortable . Saving on electricity? it's A little pricey .. for what it is .. we did order the addtional steak . 450 grams .. at $325.00.. 6 of got to a slice each . It was so good but not worth the price tag . Again , why this is not on the menu ., ? it's almost as if you get the low cost food which makes up the menu (175.00) and the choice stuff is at an additional cost . I woukd happily pay a lot more just to have enough of the 234 day old steak .. then waste my appetite on the 175.00 menu . Maybe firedoor should consider having a second menu with the steak and lamb on it . Pity...that these are all add - ons at a premium price tag !!! Overall . We enjoyed the experience .. but would we go back for that price knowing the only meat we had was pork . .. not really . Unless a new menu comes out with the said two meats that were unbelievably tasty ., maybe !!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic dining experience at Firedoor.
Everything was cooked over the roaring fire in the open kitchen style. If you're seated at the chef's table, you'll definitely feel some of that heat. Everything tasted great including the drinks.

We had high expectations but in the end, this was a good, average experience. The biggest problem was the dry aged Rib eye, while absolutely amazing, came last since it was an add on. Combine this with the a few carb heavy dishes or ones with larger than expected portions, and we ended up too full to really enjoy the steak. The steak is clearly the highlight and I wish the menu was portioned better to cater to it. The rest of the dishes were good, with any fire infused vegetables having a nice flavor, and the kangaroo was well cooked and not too gamey. The crackling on the pork was top notch. Dishes like the potatoes were just fillers and should have been skipped. The coral trout was also bland.Overall, the cooking by fire concept has potential but it's not executed well here.

Amazing service, food is fantastic and the team there so knowledgeable. Amazing wine to match the super fresh and delicious menu. Worth the wait to have this opportunity. Great value and can't compliment the food or service and ambience enough.
Be the first to ReplyThis is just caucasian food (european white).
It is good and I like what I ordered. The meat was done to my liking.I sure come back again next time I visit this location.

They tell customers that they have seats reserved at the bar for walk-ins but when customers walk in, they are told that the whole restaurant is fully booked even though 90% of the place is empty and all the bar seats are vacant. Eek! Methinks not.

It was my last dinner in Sydney before flying home and I wanted to dine at a fine restaurant. Firedoor happened to be a great choice.I Â chose to sit at the counter so I could watch all the action. It is much more fun to watch the action when dining solo. You can also socialize and try dishes that your neighbors love. The chef and his staff were really busy but despite he made sure that I get a very unique experience. First of all the ingredients were of superb quality and married together perfectly. The chef clearly knew I was there to have a great experience and made sure that I did. Everything he recommended was a great surprise. The sommelier also paired some unique Australian wines with very dish. It was a wonderful experience.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic, kept getting better with each dish.
I ate solo but they were able to halve almost all the dishes so I was able to try 4 things.  I started with Marron, which I never had before.  Marron is a very large crayfish and they show it to you live before preparing it.  Was surprised how meaty it was and easy to eat.  I then went on to Mahi, which was great.  A nice size piece of fish, perfectly prepared with a nice finish on the skin (and I usually avoid fish skin).  The tomato, ricotta and grilled peach was good but not as good  as the other dishes, the peach did not have the exciting flavor I expected.  Finally, the steak was out of this world.  It was very plainly described in the menu and I almost avoided it but was in a beef mood.  It turned into one of the best steaks I ever had.  Tender, incredible flavor.  I can't get it out of my head.  I sat by the woodfire, which while interesting, gets very hot over an evening.  The meal was great and the steak unforgettable.

We had the perfect vantage point from the counter to view the symphony of motion in the Firedoor kitchen! All the dishes were creative, slightly unexpected, delicious, and expertly prepared. Definitely save your appetite if you opt for the Chef's Menu. We pretty much had to be rolled out of there, contentedly of course!
Be the first to ReplyFiredoor was the best meal I've had in recent memory.
The space is small, but open and intimate. It is the perfect spot for a romantic night out. We started the night with the bread and smoked butter. It was perfectly balanced with flavor and the smoke was not overbearing as it so often is when used. We didn't have reservations (definitely worth making one to ensure you've got a spot) and were seated at the bar, which faced inside the open kitchen. Watching the owner/chef cook was truly mesmerizing and made me appreciate more than ever the culinary arts. We were given the sweet corn and straciatella cheese as an appetizer, which was a pleasant and delicious surprise. In addition, we ordered the lamb and veal both which were cooked to perfection, tender, and complemented perfectly with a carrot puree and potatoes respectively. I wish I was visiting longer just to visit this restaurant again. A fabulous experience that we greatly enjoyed.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is horrible.
I haven't had such bad food in a looooonnngggg time. I had even told one of the wait staff during the 4th course. Didn't hear back from the chef or anyone else. No one came by to check on our meal or asked us what we thought about the food or suggestions on how to improve the menu or dishes. Bad food.Bad service.Okay ambiance. Nothing special...avoid.
Be the first to ReplyMeh, I really wanted to like this place as it's been hyped
Meh, I really wanted to like this place as it's been hyped up quite a bit, but I found myself just "whelmed" by it. Here's the breakdown:The good:-The decor- super swanky feel, great attention to detail throughout the restaurant-The bread- OMG I should have just ordered multiple orders of this- thick chewy amazing sourdough bread and a BACON infused butter to go alongside it. Seriously could have licked the bowl cleanThe ok:-The rest of the food. Everything else just tasted very similar and lacked a good dose of salt. We opted for the king prawns (they left my poop line in which I was not impressed with), the cos lettuce (not grilled enough so it was just limp and flavourless), the roasted cauliflower (good, but difficult to cut as it was underdone) and the lamb (super fatty, but the sauce and vegetables that came with this dish were great)The bad:-The service. Good gracious. I went on a Tuesday night so it wasn't exactly bumping, and yet it still took ages and ages to order, get more wine and settle the bill. Wasn't impressed. For the same price (each of us paid $130 with booze) I would recommend going elsewhere!
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to like this restaurant.
Great idea, lovely staff, excellent cocktails, big wine list and everything looked great on the plate- but for me an expensive restaurant has got have amazing food. There were too many dishes that tasted the same. I get that smokey is a main theme due to fire cooking, but for gods sake someone throw a lemon, a pickle, some butter or chili on something! The Mahi Mahi was nicely cooked but differed very little in flavour to the beans with almonds, Marin with pomelo and black squid. The best steak is the 500g wagu tbone but otherwise nothing special. Perhaps my sense of taste was muddled by the plumes of smoke hanging in the room? Not so sure I'll be coming back.
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant has been open for just five months.
From cocktails to dessert, the service at the bar was impeccable, attentive, and simply spot on.  Each dish we ordered clearly respected the ingredients.  Nothing was overdressed, overly seasoned, or overdone.  Our party had not one complaint across the board.  What a great experience for walking in!  It's no wonder bookings are recommended.

What a disappointment! As a confirmed carnivore I have been soooo looking forward to a meal at Firedoor. Smoky flame cooked flavours...increasingly awarded chef...very excited. We arrived on time to be shuffled off to a tiny bar table to wait 20 minutes for our table. We ordered a bottle of white from the extensive but largely unheard of wine list only to be told they had no chilled bottles but they could throw it in the fridge for a bit if we wanted...we moved to red. The menu listed all the various woods on the back, but didn't link them to any of the meals so no idea what wood was used for what meal. There was a very strong smell of dope wafting around he restaurant, but we were told it was just the hay they were using on the flames. Yea, right... Given the quality of the meal I think the chef was smokin' the hay... The waitress was not much help and showed little knowledge of the menu. We were told the meals were designed to share. The first plate arrived - lamb tongue - on the waitress's recommendation. There was barely enough for one person let alone 4! We ordered 8 dishes, including the $126 ribeye. Yes, $126 for a 500g ribeye on the bone. Of the 8 dishes, only one was interesting and smokily tasty. The artichoke and ham dish was universally applauded. The other meals were, well...bland. No woody, smoky, interesting flavours at all. Most disappointing was that $126 steak. It was just meat. Nothing special. Blandasaurus. The only winner was our dog as we took the bone home. But he didn't bother with it either. In the end we didn't have dessert or coffee and it still came to $130 a head for a very, very average and bland meal. Hate that.
Be the first to ReplyDry aged Beef is terrific but no where near $130 terrific.
2 hour wait for food to arrive after being seated and then a rush to get us out in time for their next seating. average food aside from the dry aged steak. Despite a famous foodie sitting at the table next to us I found it far from worth the hype or effort getting a reservation. Much better options at better prices around Sydney.
