One of my favorite spots in Bushwick and so many great memories! I will miss Faro and the staff!

So sad this place is closing! We celebrated our anniversary here. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, quiet and romantic. We started off with cocktails: Charo's Kick and New Bushwick Buck ($15 each), both delicious with unique flavors. The sourdough focaccia ($8) is a must-have as the other reviewers said; so pillowy! As for entrees, I loved the scarpinocc ($28). The ravioli ($28) was good as well, but I preferred the former. Small portions, but you can't beat the texture of homemade pasta.
Be the first to ReplyYup, 5 stars.
If there's one item that summarizes it up, it's the focaccia. *Do not miss the focaccia*. It's the best one I've tasted. Came here for dinner (made a reservation) and we ordered:- cabbage salad (4.5/5) surprisingly refreshing and delicious, the green apples really brightened it up.- frascatelli (5/5) I think this was my favorite pasta. It was perfectly cooked and so cheesy and yummy. - gnocchi alla romana (3.5/5) objectively speaking this was good but the semolina was a bit heavy for me.- tonnarelli (4/5) plenty of delicious crab. The breadcrumbs were also a great touch of texture.- honey lemon dessert (5/5) this was the perfect lemon dessert!- chocolate! (4.5/5) there were chocolate chips embedded into the brownie it was delicious. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the cocktail I had (the spritz), I'd probably stick to wine next time. The ambiance is very nice for a date night or an intimate dinner with friends. The space is beautifully set up with an open kitchen. Very solid restaurant and I'd definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyReally good place to chill - the ambiance is casual.
Having sat at a chef's counter, I'd say I enjoyed my evening. Always appreciate a mocktail menu - I ordered a phony negroni spritz and it was perfect. To start, I loved the HOG Farm cabbage apple salad. The pickled mustard seeds were a nice touch. I'm going to attempt to make at home:) The squid ink pasta and and cappelletti didn't impress me. Although I did like the Squid ink pasta more - it had a nice crunch and there was a good amount of crab. I just wish the actual pasta had a better consistency, it was a bit tough. The mushrooms in cappelletti were extra salty but the pasta itself was well seasoned. I guess without the mushrooms it was delicious. I'd like to give them second try with the pasta. Honey Lemon Ice Box Pie was very confusing. I think it'll be better offered as an appetizer rather than a dessert. The mix of sweet and salty is nice but when you expect it. Very hard shortbread with savory ricotta like blobs..not sure I'd want to do this for dessert. I was expecting a lemon sorbet from the name. OH almost forgot the Foccaccia.. it was delicious. Loved it. Part II will be more telling.

Came here for a birthday party where the menu was set up family style. The food was exceptional in taste. All the ingredients were fresh. Pasta dishes were Al dente and the sauces were perfect. The duck was a bit too rare for my taste, but it was delicious. My favorite was the lemon dessert because it was the perfect ending to such a wonderful meal. The place is a hidden gem of Brooklyn. Plenty of street parking even on Saturday night. Great service, exceptional food, wonderful ambiance. Will definitely come back.
Be the first to ReplyThe pasta was very salty, the meat was very chewy.
Desert was great, We had the Honey lemon Ice box pie! The woman behind the bar, short blond hair and glasses made us feel uncomfortable with her staring. Sometimes I feel like I don't belong when I come to this neighborhood and this is exactly why.
Be the first to ReplyAn incredible semi-hidden gem that I'm selfishly hoping
An incredible semi-hidden gem that I'm selfishly hoping will remain that way! The homemade pastas here are just incredible -- halfway through our meal I was already planning to come back. The space is elegant and minimal but still feels welcoming, and service is unpretentious and expert. We shared three pastas and the squid ink spaghetti w olive oil cured skate wing was definitely the favorite -- a flavor explosion with melt in your mouth flakes of skate blending with crunchy nutty breadcrumbs, garlic, fennel and chili with deliciously chewy noodles. Yet it feels unfair to choose a favorite because our other two pastas were beyond reproach too: rigatoni w wild boar ragu (surprisingly light) and cavatelli w duck ragu, kale and honeynut squash (rich but not overly so). Side note: the sparkling cider is deliciously refreshing and cuts the richness of the pasta perfectly.Truly couldn't have been a better meal and super reasonably priced too. Can't wait to come back to try the seasonal offerings as they change!
Be the first to ReplyFavorite restaurant in the area, maybe anywhere.
I've been here plenty of times and never had a bad meal. It's become the go-to for special event dinners or gathering with friends. Food is always amazing, and I highly recommend getting the bread to start and a pasta dish for dinner. Can't go wrong with carbs here. Staff is always nice and service is quick, but really the food is the star of the show here.

I would only go there again for the Sourdough Focaccia but the pasta was kinda mid. The staff were kind.

The menu changes seasonally so there is a huge inventive to go to this gem in Brooklyn for every season. We started with the fresh made bread and saved some for the pasta course to dip in leftover sauce of the pasta courses. My favorite pasta that we ordered is the Olive Oil cured skate wing over pasta with fresh made bread crumbs.I will be back for next season's menu and the the next round of pastas!
Be the first to ReplyI've been there about 4x.
generally very satisfied with the food and service. The servers are great! Last night things changed. The chitarra pasta was delicious but served cold. The NY strip steak was a disaster. It was served cold and literally inedible. It's a three piece serving - which is fine if it's a good cut - one piece was a hunk of grizzle and disgusting fat. The servers were fantastic and empathetic . The chef? gave us a free round of drinks. I'm fine paying $42 for three pieces of steak but please! All i ask is for the steak to be consumable. i didn't even expect a free dish but serving bad meat is unacceptable. The chefs know when a dish is bad. Assuming diners will accept anything is unacceptable is bad business. That's what bugs me. Allowing a bad dish to be served. That's on the chef. If you are willfully Ok with serving a bad dish, i am OK never returning to your establishment. Bare in mind we dine out 3x-4x per week. Faro is permanently off the list. You lost good business, referrals and tips.Bye.
Be the first to ReplyImpeccable service.
The best restaurant in the neighborhood by leaps and bounds. Eat all the pastas!
Be the first to ReplyA very good restaurant that you can actually get a seat at.
How refreshing. I have a soft spot for fresh pasta and try to dine at restaurants that make it in-house. I got two small pasta dishes here - the chittara and the caramelle. There wasn't much actual peekytoe crab meat in the former, but it certainly had a lot of flavor. Mushrooms and foie gras sauce in the latter were good. I did find the pasta to be firmer than I normally like, but the sauces and flavors were delicious. I also ordered the chicken entree as others recommended. They were right. It was plump, crisp, and rich. I can never cook chicken with skin as crispy and light as the one I had here. The citrus soda made with lemon and orgeat was a great palate cleanser. Good view into the open kitchen.

I'm looking forward to making this place part of my regular rotation. The menu is small, which usually lets you know it's going to be great. The chef is quite friendly and checks all plates before they go out. We had the cavatelli with pork ragú and the agnalotti with short rib. Both were absolutely phenomenal. We had the chocolate cake with hazelnuts and some other things and it was also top knotch. We sat at the bar and was able to talk to the chef/owner for quite a bit. 10/10 would throw all my money at them again.
Be the first to Replyi have been many times and it's alwaysgreat.
especially the pasta & wine list.Just a shout out to the management and front of house, anyone who has worked in food service in NYC knows it's not easy to run a busy place like this on a weekend....they were cordial and adjusting my reservation by phone was easyonce I got through. Ditto for the waitstaff, they are very nice & extremely competent, consistently, every time, no mattter which server it is, any time of the year. I don't bother going to Lillia anymore, the food/drink here is better !!
Be the first to ReplyBeen a minute since I took the time to write a review.
Let me be honest, the food here IS NOT bad, but almost worse, it's not very good.Ordered:Sesame seed focaccia (best dish of the night imo)Hearts of romaine Lasagna CodSalad was some how bland and over dressed at the same time while lacking a nice crispy element, the focaccia croutons were a bit soggy due to the amount of dressing on the salad. Have had better elsewhere.Lasagna - a confusing dish served a top a fried sheet of lasagna (almost like a giant wonton chip), did not cut well with the cutlery provided. The portion was tiny over priced. The cod. What can I say about the cod? That it tasted exactly like a kids cuisine fish stick dinner? Yes, I can say that. The mashed potatoes lacked flavor and we soo smooth it was almost like a sauce instead of a side dish. The portion of cod was also tiny, and was totally under seasoned. This is the kind of dish you feed to a picky kid in all honesty.I do not know what kind of clout this place once had but they seem to be coasting off of old reviews. All of the dishes I ordered were over priced, and under whelming.Lots of other good options in the area, will not be coming back here, but if you like over priced, under seasoned, tiny portions, maybe this is the spot for you.
Be the first to ReplyBushwick gem.
Love that they offer both full and half portions of pasta so that you can definitely sample a bunch. You wouldn't expect it at a place that boasts pasta, but their best dish was for sure the roast chicken. Absolutely perfect with the lemon butter.

3.5 stars. I'm always looking for a nice Italian place that makes pasta in the house. A lot of the reviews had either loved it or thought it was ok. One thing was it's not hard to get a reservation here which should have warned me it was just ok. Upon entering you get the beautiful aroma of the wood oven. The devour is simple and sleek. The appetizers were good along with the sourdough. The best dish we had was actually the chicken course which was amazing. The pastas were underwhelming and one wasn't even cooked Enough. The waitress we had also didn't know the menu at all. I asked her thoughts on several dishes and what wine would pair well with the dishes. She was kind of aloof and didn't know anything about the dishes. I wouldn't come back as it was definitely and underwhelming dinner with a few good dishes.

If you're in Bushwick and looking for pasta, I suggest stopping by Faro. We started off with the focaccia (def order) and beef tartare (skip this) then split the bucatini (so so), mafalde (delicious, can't stop thinking about it) and the cavataeli (decent but I've had better). The service was excellent which is why I'm giving this place 4 stars versus 3. I don't know if it's one of the best pastas in the city, but a solid choice if you're in the area.
Be the first to ReplyBeen one of my favorite spots for years now.
Menu changes with seasons and never disappoints. True fine dining in the heart of Bushwick. If you're in the area make time to eat here. If you're not in the area make the trip anyway. Nothing here ever let's me down.
Be the first to Replythis review is for the service/experience vs the food.
showed up on saturday night at 9:27pm for my 9:30pm reservation - as i check in with the hostess she immediately goes "the kitchen closes in 10 minutes so you need to order now." ummm why do you accept 9:30pm reservations then? and why would you, A HOSTESS, choose to welcome/greet us that way? so rude. mind you, it's a saturday night and the restaurant is mostly full still (not like we walked into empty place)! also it's an open kitchen so you can see all the cooks just standing around (not cooking). waitress was equally annoyed when we wanted to order a second round of drinks at 9:50pm. didn't even offer or ask if we wanted dessert. pasta was good but the portions are super small for the price and it does not make up for the horrendous attitude of literally every staff member in the place. lol people just don't want to work - i'll take my $$$ elsewhere thanks.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing experience but worth the intoxicating smell
Disappointing experience but worth the intoxicating smell of the wood fired oven.Foccacia (5/5) light and fluffy on the inside and crispy with dustings of rosemary on the outside. This was the only dish that they made in the wood fired grill.Peekytoe Crab (3/5) a tiny potion with large pieces of scallion that had a bite to them (which doesn't compliment with wine). The dish reminded me of something you would get at an Asian fusion restaurant. Not bad just nowhere near worth $20.Bucatini (2/5) the pasta was cooked well and it ends there. This was just pasta with a light oiled sauce, red pepper flakes, and shredded chicken. Very disappointing.Chicken (5/5) my boyfriend said this was the best chicken dish he ever had. The chef nailed the crispness. The sauce was great and the maitaike mushrooms were also good. Could have used a potato or something of more substance because it wasn't a particularly hearty dish. Also, the dish was salty. For dessert we had the olive oil cake which was chocolate with whipped cream which I wasn't impressed with. The tiramisu tart was also okay and the better of the two because of the shortbread.
Be the first to ReplyThe menu is always changing the vibes are on point.
This might be the best pasta I've had in nyc. Don't say you know transcendental Italian food until you've dined at faro.
