Disappointing Michelin Dining Experience
Our visit to Esquina fell short of expectations set by its Michelin rating. While the food was passable, it was overpriced and lacked the traditional presentation expected for dishes like paella comes in a small bowl for $62. The ambiance lacked sophistication, and even the sangria lacked the fruity notes one would anticipate. Overall, compared to other Michelin and standard restaurants, our experience was disappointing.😌
Be the first to ReplyTaste of food ok but small portions and uninspired.
Overpriced food served on plain plates with no love. Taste of dishes is fair but uninspired, ordered the paella and I came on a normal plate not the traditional pan. Give this restaurant a pass and spend your evening at a place who is passionate about food.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic food
Had the Valentine’s Day set dinner menu - 15 dishes that were varied and delicious. The chef did a nice job improvising for my wife’s allergies. Will go back again.
Be the first to ReplyA true Catalonian gem
We first discovered this modern twist on Spanish cuisine in 2015. It's contemporary, but never loses sight of its roots, the traditional flavours, methods and aromas abound. Most importantly, the service on the floor and from the kitchen remains flawless on this, our first visit since 2017. If you are a couple, sit on stools at the pass and watch the magic of a well-oiled chef brigade. Even four can perch comfortably on the one L-shape corner of the pass. No matter where you sit though, you will be impressed. Chef Carlos remains at the helm all these years on, but for our lunch service it was our worthy off-sider Chef Taresa who delighted our taste buds.
Be the first to ReplyLunch with good friend over good food
It was my first visit to this place. Sat at the counter for lunch. The place was not crowded on a week day. We ordered 4 tapas items. Octopus, prawns, grilled lettuce, and diced tuna sashimi. It was really amazing food and we could see our lunch being prepared just in front of us. I'd like to come back again with my loved ones.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food and great service
Incredible food and fabulous service. We made a last minute booking so were unable to sit at the bar for the true tapas experience but the service we had at our outdoor table was great- Deli in particular was fabulous - she kept the place running so well and was very knowledgeable with her recommendations. We had a number of the smaller snack dishes and just one main between the two of us and on reflection we should have just stuck with the small ones. Favourite dish of the night was the soft cheese and aubergine which was incredible. Wine was on the pricey side but still enjoyed a delicious white Rioja. Will be returning very soon
Be the first to ReplyConsistently good tapas
This is my go to place for tapas whenever I feel the deserve a treat. Glad that the regular items like grilled sucre lettuce is a regular item. Head chef wasn’t there the last time we were there but the food and service was consistently good. Have not found a Spanish restaurant in Singapore that is better than Esquina.
Be the first to ReplyToo disorganised
It a nutshell it was chaos. Super busy and we had to sit outside for around 20 minutes before we could be seated (we had a reservation but this didn’t seem to matter). We later found out in conversation that there were quite a number of walk-ins and that meant our reservation got delayed. So it seems the fast buck was being pursued. Food itself was pretty good though. Shame about the management and priorities
Be the first to ReplyThis ain't no NYC Esquina
Sadly this was built up as one of the best tapas in Singapore and probably is the one of the best but only shows the low level of quality of Singapore tapas. Booked for three and seated at a table for two. The food started to come out with high expectation and sadly disappointed with tasteless morsels of neatly organised food on a plate. The paella more like a Chinese fried rice on a bad day. The service slow and non existent for most of the night. Overwhelmingly underwhelming. As far away to the exceptional quality and ambience of NYC Esquina as it is distance.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful experience
I discovered this restaurant just by walking around Tanjong Pagar area in a "late" Friday evening. I arrived without reservation and Ice been lucky enough to get a spot at the chef kitchen table. The "show" is pleasant and relaxing: the whole brigade is well disciplined and consistent. I opted for 2 snacks: anchovy sticks (crispy and light) and marinated olives (an explosive and curious taste). Tuna tartar came immediately after, with an interesting celery sorbet, sea grapes and avruga caviar. Fresh, tasty and satisfying. The black Angus tenderloin was perfectly cooked in a Josper over just in front of me: butte like tenderness. Chapeau. I've been offered a Sangria sorbet before mine dark chocolate lava cake. I ordered a glass of Baga 100% and a second of tempranillo. Ended up with SGD150, that I think is definitely fair and worthy.
Be the first to ReplyOverall pleasant meal experience
Attentive and pleasant service by the ladies manning the 2nd floor dinner area. Nice: oysters, Japanese mackerel, anchovy stick, paella (if you don’t like heavy taste, skip this), foie gras on puff pastry. The dessert BBC (beer stout ice cream, banana cake and caramel) was very nice and so was the lemon cake. Skip the grilled octopus - not charred enough and potato was non-existent. Food portions are small so if you have a big appetite, need to order more items.
Be the first to ReplyIt lives up to its reviews!
It's been years before I got to finally try Esquina. I was there to celebrate my birthday with a friend. The service and food definitely did not disappoint. We had Paella, Croquettes, Oysters, Anchovies Sticks and Grilled Octopus. Rustic flavours...full of umami. The staff were super attentive and even presented a surprise cake on the house. I'll def be back if if a table is ever available.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the worst restaurants
It was my first time coming to this restaurant with my friends . We wanted to have a good time eating dinner. When I ordered the food, the waiting time was quite long and it wasn’t a busy day. Other than the waiting time, the cutlery was dirty and there was a hair on my plate. We ordered some other dishes to try, but one of the dishes had a bland yet bitter taste. I don’t know if it was undercooked or expired. One of the dishes never came and we had to ask twice for it. This was quite a horrible experience for me and my friends beWe will not be coming back ever. This is the one of the worst restaurant I have been to.
Be the first to ReplyMy birthday was ruined here …unfortunately.
I had such high expectations and this place left me utterly disappointed… I felt had to share my experience unfortunately. We came here for my birthday and wanted to try the tasting menu, however the moment we sat down we were greeted by silence. A long 15 minutes later a waitress with a very sullen look slammed the menu on our table and didn’t even say welcome. When we wanted to ask about a particular dish on the tasting menu, she glared and just said “you get everything” and looked as if we were bothering her. That made us reluctant to get the tasting menu, as part of that is also the service and experience. After another 15 mins, we were finally asked if we wanted water, which was hurriedly dumped onto our table (at this point we are nearly 30mins in and still have no had our orders taken). Meanwhile, we also noticed another pair who arrived for >10 mins without a single person greeting them and they actually left. Finally we decided to order the a la carte dishes, which again took another 15 mins just for the first appetiser to come out. Food was ok, it wasn’t mind blowing. I found the prawn paella to be rather salty and I would say it’s slightly overpriced for quality. The appetisers were ok - we got the croquettes, bruschetta (too oily) , and some small plates. We were probably 40-45 mins in before getting to eat anything and the whole time service was unbelievably poor. It got so bad that when the main arrived my partner was contemplating already asking for the bill since everything took so long, and the waitress looked like she hated to be there. (To be fair to her the restaurant did seem understaffed but still, it was a very poor experience to be snapped at as a customer on my birthday) We were shocked because this place had such good reviews…. but I have to say that it definitely ruined my birthday. We came with such high expectations and really hoped to enjoy a wonderful dinner, but sadly were very let down and left disappointed and upset by the whole experience.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome modern Spanish cuisine
Situated in a corner of heritage building in Tanjong Pagar is this popular restaurant serving modern Spanish tapas. We chose their set menu at $138/pax. Wasn’t disappointed because the food tasted awesome. There are a few outstanding dishes with the most extravagant is lobster paella with Uni. With reservations one has to choose from outdoor, bar or second floor dining. We got the second floor for tables and chairs. Service was good whilst atmosphere was pleasant,
Be the first to ReplyBest Spanish in town
It was my second time having dinner in Esquina and the overall experiencewas Amazing. We tried some new dishes, but still ordered the rosted Cauliflowers and Iberico Croquetas, just delicious. The Octopus was perfectly cooked, tender and with the right seasoning. We shared as well the Spanish Pig, succulent with that crispy skin Wow. Ending with sweets, the chocolate Fondant cake with vanilla gelato and almond. Personal opinion: the best Spanish restaurant in Singapore. The service is fast and all the staff are kind and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyGood fusion tapas place
Good place if you like to try some fusion Tapas. Portions are fine for a couple to share. On the pricy side so expect to spend atleast $150 minimum for an order of 4 tapas dishes. The dessert especially the Amalfi Lemon cake is a must try. Good for a dinner and casual dinning out with family and friends. Has good selection on wines. Good ambience and staffs are very friendly.
Be the first to ReplyLoved the food, service and ambience!
First time having Spanish food paired with Spanish sherry cocktails! The starters were tapas of juicy oysters (with jalapeño ponzu), anchovy sticks (with allioli dip), olives stuffed with anchovy pesto and Iberico ham (with tomato foam). There were 3 small dishes of the mains: beautifully cooked seabass in lobster velouté, followed by crispy suckling pig and then the best dish of all - roasted quail stuffed with pan-seared foie gras on top of cèpes paella. The delightful dessert was the beer stout ice cream on top of banana cake and salted caramel.
Be the first to ReplyLove the food
Brought 4 friends to try the food here. Everyone loved it!
Ordered from ala-carte menu so we could share everything.
Must try - Spanish pork jowl, Cauliflower, Grilled sucrine lettuce, Prawn paella, Grilled octopus and Suckling pig
If the cheese cake is available, go for it. The calories are worth it!
Nice food, good service
Second time of eating here
I really like it
The open kitchen is poetry in motion, kudos to chef Carlos
Food is tasty and well cooked and just the right sizes
Extensive wine list and a wide selection of sherries
They provided a free dish and also free petit fours - Burnt Ends take note
Excellent Food
I had made dinner reservation at this restaurant which I had heard a lot about. We were punctual and were escorted to our outdoor table. The table was okay, would have been nicer to sit inside but this was okay too as the weather was pretty nice. The menu is simple and most of the dishes are quite simple but the elements in each dish is truly unique and absolutely stunning. Each dish is distinctive and different. Amazing blend of flavours - sweet and savory. The dishes that were only (could have been nicer) were the octopus and cabbage. On the other hand, the lettuce, tuna tartare, prawn paella, burrata, bread roll were simply outstanding - I would order these again ! The dessert was delicious as well - the molten lava chocolate cake was intense and the burnt cheese cake was stunning. The caviar on the chocolate was stunning. Oh man ! In food coma. Our waitress, Priya was also super friendly and nice. We felt comfortable dining here and will surely be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat start - going south
Visited place multiple times in last 2 years. Great tapas, motivated kitchen team, but moody service. Messy seating due to 2-3 times services / table& seats in the evening - too many other good places in SG to watch that aditude
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced, over-rated food and overly aggressive upselling.
We ordered the set menu and aside from old standbys such as crystal bread and burrata cheese, the food overall was just OK and definitely did not justify the price. Don't understand how this place be Michelin-rated.
What irked us the most was that the waitress tried to get us to order dishes similar to what was already provided on the set menu. She repeatedly dropped hints that the portions were small and we should be ordering more. She even tried to upsell us dessert when dessert was clearly already included in these menu. Not sure how these waitresses are incentivized in this joint but her attitude was offputting.
They did try to leave a good impression in the end by throwing in some free chocolate mousse but the dining experience left a bitter taste in the mouth overall.
Definitely not going back!
Top food, amazing service
The food was really top of the line, and was a special midweek treat. Everything was made sweeter with Kerene’s amazing service. She was attentive, jovial, and even though her smile was hidden behind a mask, you could see the massive grin in her eyes. Thanks for the amazing night, and we’ll be back soon!

My wife and I have eaten at Esquina a few times now. And each time, the service is wonderful and attentive, and the food is incredible (particularly the tuna tartar and grilled octopus).
