Wonderful Basque Food
What a find. Basque food done very well. Ordered a plethora of options, all served well hot and delicious. Many options for all. Cocktails well done(not wine people). Also great evening vibe. Go!

Beautifully designed restaurant. Definitely huge upsell in how many dishes to order from each “section” for two people. Glad we decided to order fewer. The food was innovative and excellent. Though, it was VERY expensive (especially considering how much they want you to order) The martini (which I believe was $18) was not probably chilled and definitely a “mini martini” (and not all the way filled. We also felt very rushed. Food was brought out on top of each course. The anchovy pastry “tapas type” dish was exceptional. Even according to my friend who does not like anchovies !!!

Be the first to ReplyMagnificent Basque mesl
We had a truly remarkable meal at this lovely restaurant on the Lower East Side. The food was beyond superb We started with an ethereal puff pastry with anchovies. Then we had a Spanish tomatoes soup, Salmorejo, with tuna tartar. Followed by rabbit on rice with chanterelles and a crispy suckling pig. Great wines and way too much grappa. The services was wonderful: friendly and very knowledgeable. Our night was made when we were leaving and the maitre de said the kitchen was, talking about how much we enjoyed dinner. One of the best meals ever in the City. Thanks so much

Everything was good from the iberico ham, to the croquettes, to the cod and chocolate desert. What could have used improvement was the pasta dish (lacking flavor) and the ice cream. Service was good as was the wine list with some good French and Spanish wines. The sommelier was friendly and helpful.

We were very disappointed in our meal; this place does not deserve a Michelin Bib. The best thing about this restaurant for us was the large Miró on the back wall that Audre could see during the meal. The menu did not have enough Basque pintxos on it and the selection that was on the menu seemed like “same ol’, same ol’ “. Certainly, none of the descriptions caught our eye, even when our server, Cesar, described them. It did seem as if the restaurant was a popular, trendy spot. We ended up ordering the tripe “entrada” called Callos de Joan, Madrid Tripe ($16). It was good, with enough spiciness but it was a tiny dish. We ordered bread with it ($3). With our meal, we drank 2 glasses of Rioja Tentenublo ($17 x 2) that was too light for our taste, like a pinot—maybe because it is. Our second dish was the sausages “Salchichas con alubias ($34) that was uninteresting. The sausage was just sausage and not tasty enough at that. The cabbage was tasteless and the best part of the dish was the beans. We didn’t see anything on the menu we wanted for dessert. We spent $94.72 plus tip and left unhappy,
Be the first to ReplyWe left poor and disappointed.
Super expensive for average food. Over $350 for dinner for two. Kept asking our server if we were ordering too much food because we didn’t know what the portion sizes were, and she encouraged us to keep ordering, but then there was so much we couldn’t eat it. Plus none of it was terribly interesting or exciting. The bacalao was so salty it was inedible. If you’re charging $35 - $40 for a main course, it better be good, and it just isn’t. The bottle of wine we were given turned out to be way above ($80) what we had said was our price range, and for all that it was nothing major either.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and very small portions
Ernesto's is way overpriced. Two small coquettes were $14. A tomato salad equivalent to about 8 cherry tomatoes was $18. Domestic draft beer $7 for 8 ounces which equates to $14 for a 16 ounce draft. Other dishes were equally as expensive.
The food was just average. It tasted okay but was nothing special.
ErnestNO way this place deserves nice review
Full disclosure : Im a vegetarian but love NYC restaurants and have been to the BEST. This place is a joke for the woke. The vegetarian entrees: a lame piece of zucchini with breadcrumbs for $30 or a dish of roasted and tasteless vegetables. The wine glasses were the size of shot glasses and my lady had a mediocre arbois pupillin terre du lias 2018 Chardonnay (Retail $26) for $22 a glass. The so called ambiance escaped me as did the inexperienced wait staff (MarianaL). The coffee was not hot and after waiting 25 mins for dessert we gave up! Laughably, they suggest a 20% tip.

We were looking for lunch and a cool spot to get a beverage. Ernesto's hit the spot. They actually have more of a breakfast/brunch menu and sweet treats but we made do.
They service was really nice; such friendly and enthusiastic folks helped us decide on menu items.
The little coffee shop is open before the full-service restaurant.
The spot is small with a few table inside. We were entertained by the food prep taking place for the evening.
I recommend this if you are looking for something with home-made appeal and a spot to rest.
This is cheap, regular Spanish food.
Read a positive review in The NY Times. However, this in Spain would be one of thousands of what we call “mesones”, non-sophisticated restaurants with home-made food for less than 20 euros per person. For three dishes to share between 2 people and one bottle of a white Rioja that costs less than 20 euros in Spain, plus one dessert, we were charged $240, tip included. The first dish was the best, croquetas, but you get 2 in the serving. Second dish was calamares fritos and the third was an assortment of butifarra, chorizo and 2 pieces of por ribs. Come on.
Be the first to ReplyThey charge $40 per person to cancel, limit dining time yet did nothing after keeping us waiting half an hour for a tabl
Some appetizers were delicious but way overpriced and portions were ridiculously small (2 white asparagus for 24). We ordered the expensive steak and it was horrible - fatty, chewy meat not seasoned at all. Even after we requested salt & pepper, it was tasteless and disappointing. The place isn't hospitable and the food is way too uneven and overpriced. I'd steer clear. It has very few tapas and none of the appeal we had eating in true Basque country.

Very good Basque menu with a wide variety to choose from. Fantastic service & staff: attentive, detail-oriented. Great food. Could not have asked for a better evening.

Ernesto’s offers a menu with a variety of options from tapas to fish and meat dishes, nice wines and cocktails. The place is busy so reservations are a must!
