Italian Grandmothers and nonnas from around the world with farm to table fare that is so worth a visit. Location: a short walk from the Staten Island Ferry station ferry terminal, I would remember to stop at the ATM(cash point) on the way because it is cash only. Also, you should probably have a reservation if you have not already made one. Call and ask Joe, the owner, he will do his best to accommodate. As you walk in you will notice that this is a tiny but mighty restaurant that has a warm feel with some industrial design elements. You may notice extensive super hero figurines on side above the large wine selection that enoteca is the Italian word for Wine repository and Maria is Joe's mother. He named the restaurant in his honor and this place has been labor of love. Now, I have been fortunate to be coming to this place for about a decade with many special memories and meals along the way with Joe, Paula, and all of the grandmas. Food and drinks: Anything and everything is great. I particularly love the meat and fish selections paired with next level locally sourced vegetables produce. You can't go wrong but ask for recommendation. As aforementioned, they have a deep wine list which will satisfy most all patrons. Service: At this place, it is not service. You are part of the family and they know when to give you time but also help when needed. Paula and Joe know the perfect timing. Sum-up: Make a reservation, get some cash out, and enjoy some Italian and international cuisine at a NYC institution. Looking forward to the soon film which will feature Joe and his story with the grandmothers. Vince Vaughn will play Joe in a hopefully classic film. Skip the movie before you go to experience this real life "Cinema Paradiso"(personal favorite film) for the real life restaurant version.
