Engebret Cafe Oslo Reviews
Great dining experience
The food was delicious and the restaurant is lovely. We enjoyed the monkfish and the redfish. Our server, Sander, was personable and very good. I would definitely recommend this place.
Great fish dishes
We each has fish dishes (the monkfish and the trout), and they were scrumtpious, with rich sauces. The decor was ornate and antique. The only regret we had was that we didn't have a reservation, so we didn't get a table outsoide on the plas
Outstanding dining experience
The food is great. The monk fish was outstanding. The service was professional and the setting is elegant. It was inspiring to eat in a restaurant frequented by Gibson and Munch.

Tour group stop for final dinner in Oslo
One of the older restaurants in Norway and well worth a stop. Had a great experience, food was excellent and staff and atmosphere were all high quality.
An unforgettable meal
Getting to know Oslo we arrived at this beautiful corner, a cafe that makes you want to enter, its decoration is beautiful, it has a lot of history, very well preserved. The unbeatable attention. At the start: Crayfish and scallop skewers with rosem
History and elegance.
The oldest venue in Oslo, opened in 1857 and has always been frequented by Norwegian writers and historical figures. The interior decor is fabulous, like diving into the nineteenth century for a few hours. And the food is up to par, above all the rei
Vintage place and good, refined dishes
This place is perfect for those who want to eat traditional in a historic place. The restaurant looks very welcoming with soft lights, and has the typical style of a period restaurant (and it is, it is the oldest in Oslo). The dishes we tried were ph
Neat restaurant in the heart of Oslo
This restaurant offers typical Norwegian cuisine in a preserved setting. We had a very good dinner. The staff were helpful and friendly,
Good environment, good waiters, but the food was bad. Does not tempt you to repeat.
The fish was dry, and the side dishes floated in grease. The waiters were good, but it is not tempting to repeat the visit unfortunately.
If you're in Oslo when Skrei is available, go here to get it!
The concierge at our hotel (the Grand Hotel Oslo) recommended this restaurant because we wanted to try the Skrei, a traditional Cod dish that is only available in late winter. It's poached cod with cod roe and livers, along with bacon, a delicious bu
Lovely premises, good food!
Historic place with efficient and good service. Very popular place and the food was ordered in advance. Norwegian Christmas food at its best.
Since 1987!
It is now 36 years since we first occupied our table, which from that time (1987) became our (and formerly Bjรธrnstjerne Bjรธrnson's) permanent table. Same day (week), same table setting and same table. Yesterday was as expected with a good welcome,
Because you are NOT worth it.
Probably one of the worst services Iโve had. The waitress was very rude, only pushing alcohol instead of serving food. She even tried to blame us for being demanding, all the time we were waiting for service. The headwaiter did, after a long time,
Oldest restaurant in Oslo
Had its homemade beer that is based from British Ale. This is really good. I had the national dish which was available a few days before I went to the restaurant. It was very tasty. I also had the waffles with the ice cream and brown goat cheese.
Excellent Nordic food and atmosphere
Excellent old world atmosphere, warm and friendly. Delicious food and flawless service. A very decent wine list.
No longer our standard seasonal place.
We had made reservations for two tables. But the restaurant is not able to handle two tables reserved in the same name. They informed us at the door after travelling several hours to get to the place, leaving us high and dry with no suggestion for ho
Christmas themed dinner
I was amazed by the logisitic from the restaurant, To manage to turn arround guests 2 times over the night. Engebert cafe is Olsos oldest restuarant. It has a charming local. Good food and professional servants. Food was exellent, spot on
Lovely place, mediocre food
The fish dish was luke warm and quite tasteless, the accompanying potatoes looked bad and tasted even worse. Attentive and friendly staff, though.
