Elote Cafe Sedona Reviews from The Last Year
I've been wanting to try Elote Cafe for a while now ever
I've been wanting to try Elote Cafe for a while now ever since New Years but we missed our chance then. However, during our most recent Sedona visit, we were able to give them a go. They are not dog friendly and we had our dog with us, so we just ordered take out instead. When you call your order in, you're able to choose what time you want to pick it up at, which is pretty neat. My husband and I decided to get a few things to share: Elote - Fire roasted corn with spicy mayo, lime and cotija cheese. I mean, they're called Elote Cafe so we had to give their elote a try. And it was delicious! It was nice and creamy with hints of sweetness, spice, savory, and a bit tangy from the lime. Green Corn Tamal - Fresh corn, roasted poblano and jack cheese tamal served with salsa verde and crema. I can't say this was a favorite. It was good though. The tamal was smooth. The salsa verde and crema went well with everything. It was a great subtle type of dish. Duck Carnitas - Slow roasted duck served with pasilla chile sauce and guacamole. Their duck carnitas as absolutely delicious. It still had the flavor of duck and it was so different than what we were used to. Definitely recommend this dish. So far, out of the small number of restaurants we've ate it/done take out with in Sedona, Elote Cafe is a favorite. Whenever we visit Sedona, we would definitely get food here!
This was the best place I've been to.
Ever. The atmosphere is amazing, the food was so good - i probably ate 3x my normal amount. The service was amazing. 5/5 stars.
We finally dined at the "newer" Elote restaurant recently.
Our first dining experience was in 2013, when Elote was located on the second floor, next to a hotel. We loved the new location, for its spaciousness & a myriad of seating areas. We had an early dinner reservation & enjoyed EVERYTHING we ordered, even dessert! My pork short rib was tender & perfectly seasoned, accompanied by pickled red onion. My husband loved his Tri tip steak dinner, which was phenomenal enhanced with guadjillo chili sauce. Our male server was friendly & introduced us to the sweet corn cake, topped with vanilla agave ice cream & whipped cream - so delicious!
Glad to be back! Had enjoyed Elote a couple of times at the
Glad to be back! Had enjoyed Elote a couple of times at the old hotel location; really like their new digs. Relaxed, attentive service and prompt seating are the upsides of the... substantial effort required to score a reservation. 'Cause it's the kitchen that is the engine of this success story, and our entrees did not disappoint. My brisket enchiladas were nicely spiced and wonderfully tender, and my companion enjoyed the sweet corn bisque and green corn tamal. Plan ahead and make this the focal point of a special occasion!
Food was excellent.
My wife had the lamb adobo, which was a huge lamb shank. I had the brisket enchiladas, which were very well balanced. Service was quick and attentive as we sat at the bar. We were pleasantly surprised to get a spot when we called in the afternoon to see if there was anything available. Enjoyed conversations with fellow bar sitters, which added greatly to the experience. Place definitely lived up to its reputation as the best place in Sedona.
This place almost got five stars.
The service was great. We never ran out of water or chips & salsa. Our waiter was attentive when needed. The food was the major factor though. Elote corn appetizer- Delicious! You have to order this one! Camarones al Mojo de Ajo - Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Generous portion and great size. Flavor was great! Pollo en Mole Poblano - Boyfriend ordered this one and ate before I got a picture. I don't blame him, it was delicious also! I don't really like mole, but the flavor of this dish was so good that I'd order it in the future. The only reason they lost a star from me is that the corn tortillas were pulled right out of a grocery store bought package. They did not taste fresh or even warmed up. Tasted exactly like a tortilla out of a bag. That'd be fine if you weren't paying ~$35 for an entree. All in all, DEFINITELY give this place a try.
We were told that we had to have reservations to get in and
We were told that we had to have reservations to get in and I am so glad we tried anyway- We arrived right at 5pm and the parking lot was already filled but we managed to find a spot and we walked in praying for even a seat at the bar. The host and the manager worked hard to actually find us a table and we were seated outside on the patio. Our server greeted us (he had the most stunning eyes I've ever seen) and he had great suggestions from the menu. Our purpose for dining there was purely because my friend asked me to get their Mexican chocolate pie for her birthday... but scoring a table and being able to actually dine there was amazing! We ordered the guacamole and fried goat cheese balls... the guacamole was divine and the cheese balls were perfectly crisp and gooey... they were served with a refreshing pico de gallo... my ah ha was that they would have easily transferred to the dessert menu with some goat's milk caramel and flaked sea salt... but I'm not the chef... also... I ordered the shrimp with garlic butter as my entree... it came with the same pico de gallo as the cheese balls... no less delicious but a little lazy and utilitarian... my friend ordered fish tacos but wasn't eating the tortillas so I snagged a couple and made my own shrimp fajitas with the rice, beans, guacamole, shrimp and pico... again... I'm not the chef but I think there's a missed opportunity there because that combo of flavors made me want to go back the next night! The service was attentive without being overbearing and the vibe was busy, fun and exciting... I am so grateful we took a chance on going in... #worthit and I hope Elote is very successful!
The entire experience was exceptional.
We sat on the patio with a high of 100 degrees and the patio was cool and comfortable. The service was friendly and speedy. The food was the star and we loved everything- Elote, Goat Cheese Balls, Green Chile Tamal, Pork Cheeks, Seafood Tacos, Halibut and the Elote Dessert.
Nice evening.
Great service, good food. We have been fortunate to eat here a few times. I likely ordered the wrong thing for a light dinner. Ordered the seafood tacos, going by my memory of what they used to be like (great!), and was a tad disappointed this time. It was unclear what seafood was in the fried fritter. Otherwise, everything was good. And it was very nice to be able to sit at the bar since it was a last minute decision to eat there.
The food at Elote Cafe was amazing.
Try the Pastel de Elote for dessert, you won't regret it. The only downside was that the hostess was mean and uninviting :(
My husband and I did not get what the fuss was.
Yes, it's good food but it's not the most amazing. Ambiance was busy and you'll have to speak louder for normal conversations. I would say the service was what made this place memorable. Polite, top-notch service. Wonderful bartender! But the food was just good and nothing absolutely special.
Still amazing after all these years
We have been going to the restaurant for over 10 years. The new reservation system has made it challenging to get a table but we got one by being on the cancellation list. The food, atmosphere and service did not disappoint. The menu has items that are not usually found on a Mexican restaurant menu. We had the pork cheeks, lamb, and chicken enchiladas. Do not leave without ordering the Elote as an appetizer! Highly recommend.
Beautiful high end mexican restaurant
Everything here was perfect from beginning to end. Great service, drinks, and food. The brisket enchiladas and carne asada were really good. A must go when in Sedona. Book 60 days out or good luck getting in.
Hidden gem off main strip do not miss!!!
After our drive from the Grand Canyon we were hungry upon arrival in Sedona. Parked the car, and our friend pointed out this cafe so across the street. So off we went. Elote Cafe does prefer reservations but were wonderful about getting us in for dinner. This is not a cafe in the sense that we all think. It is a sit down upscale dining room. The service was impeccable and the food right up there too. The food is all Mexican based dishes with a modern flair. My husband had the Halibut and said it was absolutely amazing. I had the Brisket dish and it truly too was amazing. The pork cheek that our friend has was according to her was "delish". Our desserts were simply decadent. We had the Chocolate Pie and the Corn Cake. Both were big enough to share really. We all left with well earned Mexican food babies in our bellies (my husband said he had twins). Don't miss this gem of a restaurant off the main strip of Sedona. You will not be disappointed. (Just a note if you are a simple palette kinda food person this may not be for you)
Worth it!!
Had an amazing dinner here. Our waiter was knowledgeable and you could tell he was a foodie. The food and atmosphere was fantastic. We sat outside and it was perfect. They have blankets and heaters but we didn’t need them. Would definitely come back.
Mediocre considering the hype
This place was all the rage to get a reservation and we had to wait on the cancellation list to get a table. If I’m being totally honest, I’m not sure why! The food was just ok. It wasn’t bad at all, but it was not anything so out of this world. My husband and I were both confused over the hype. The Elote appetizer was the best thing we had. The brisket enchiladas and the buffalo mole were the two dishes we ordered and they were fine. I think we just expected more based on the hype to get in here. We were unfortunately underwhelmed.
Tasty upscale Mexican
The duck and short rib mole was very good, as were the goat cheese balls and elote. Very good service. We were able to get a table by calling restaurant the day before.
Great food, ambiance and service
Eric was attentive and made great recommendations for both food and drink. We each had a margarita, hubs the El Charro and me the special with Mezcal and passion fruit. Both were exceptional. The appetizers were so tempting that we ended up skipping the entrees and sharing four: elote, goat cheese balls, breaded scallops, and beef quesadilla. The standouts were the elote and quesadilla, but everything was great. We were hoping to try thr white peach ice cream for dessert, but didn’t have room🙁.
Make the Reservation!
Out of this world, elevated ×1000 Mexican food. My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here in mid-May and the dinner, atmosphere and service was beyond expectation. I highly recommend elote as an appetizer, the smoked pork cheek plate as a main dish and the flan for desert. Yes, a reservation is hard to get, but trust me, it is WORTH IT!
It was good but pricey
This spot is really hard to get a reservation at. We come to Sedona a lot and have never been able to get in. Luckily we did get a reservation on a weeknight and it was pretty good. It is very pricey though. I think there are a lot of other southwestern food options in the area so if you dont' want to break the bank, you may want to pass. The elote corn appetizer was really good. The fish tacos were nothing special.
A cut above your average Mexican restaurant
We struggled to get a table here at 5.30 pm and ended up waiting 30 minutes eventually deciding to eat at the bar - which was a good decision. The 2 guys at the bar were absolutely fantastic and really looked after us. Food is excellent - the best Fajitas I’ve ever had. Beautifully spiced and plenty of chicken (which is the expensive ingredient) the food was fabulous. If you can get a table here do so - you will not be disappointed
Favorite meal in Sedona!
This was by far our fav meal in Sedona. The salsa was unique and tasty, and the namesake elote dish rocked, as did the tomato and nopales salad. My partner, a foodie, absolutely loved his smoked pork cheeks. The romaine salad was a bit overdressed for my liking, and the corn desert was only okay, but the other dishes compensated easily for these small deficiencies. I’d note that our reso was 8:15pm (only one we could get). We called and called to see if we could get in earlier, but never got through. Finally we just showed up early and were immediately seated…
We were lucky enough to enjoy a meal at the Elote Cafe, and
We were lucky enough to enjoy a meal at the Elote Cafe, and it was absolutely perfect. For drinks we had a limeade (me, driving) and a blackberry margarita. We ordered three appetizers - the elote, corn crusted scallops, and the chorizo verde queso fundido. All were exceptional. For the main course, we shared the smoked brisket enchiladas. For desert, we shared the flan. Omar, our waiter, was very friendly, and very helpful with our choices. We asked about the chef and he told us that the chef (Jeff Smedstad) is there every day and really works hard at his craft. The admiration is really sweet and genuine. The rest of the staff were also very friendly, and very kind to us. We also loved the decor, the blankets if you were cold, the floors, the walls, the music. Everything. Thank you Elote Cafe for making our stay in Sedona so special. It's a meal we will never forget.
First time at the new location.
On the smaller intimate side w a good feel and look. The famous blood orange margaritas did not disappoint ever! Food and service were outstanding and well worth the value. The elote is outstanding! Reservations are a must plan well ahead!
Fabulous Carne Asada! I read about this restaurant in Moon Rt 66 guide. Best Carne Asada I have ever had!
We tried to make a reservation on the day we arrived. I didn’t notice that the Open Table reservation they gave me was for May! Luckily for us, when we arrived for what I thought was our 6:30 reservation, someone else canceled so they could fit us in. I asked for the steak to be medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. My husband got the smoked brisket enchiladas. His meal was great too. He also liked the Margarita special and I enjoyed a delicious glass of Red wine. The chef/owner came to the table to ask if we liked our meal. Nice touch! I highly recommend!

Dined here Tuesday night with my wife and son who was visiting from New York. Everything was perfect. Our waiter, Omar did a great job explaining the dishes and went about his job very efficiently. First came complimentary crisp delicious chips and salsa. Next we tried the signature elote which was definitely as good as advertised. My wife ordered the lamb adobo which is a huge lamb shank cooked in a rich wonderful sauce. I tried the pork cheeks which is smoked for hours and also came atop a corn cake which I had never tasted before. My dinner was terrific. Our son, who was quite excited about finally getting to dine here, loved his shrimp dish. The dinners were more than ample, were absolutely delicious and very fairly priced. Elote is a real gem!
My husband and I decided to stop here and have a late
My husband and I decided to stop here and have a late lunch/early dinner after a long hike at West Fork Trail. When we arrived we went straight in at 5:00 not realizing we needed a reservation. Since it was just the two of us, the hostess asked if we were able to leave by 6:30, which we assured her we would. We were seated out in the patio area that had heating devices to keep us warm. The food was good and the service was fast. We were served with homemade salsa and chips. I ordered the Grilled Halibut which was soooooooo good. Hubby ate some delicious Baja grilled tacos ( he didn't want fried which is how they are served). We decided to order dessert, Pastel Da Elote ( our waiter said it was his favorite) which did not disappoint.
You have to make reservations months in advance, we ended
You have to make reservations months in advance, we ended up getting take out. First off, it was really convenient to call in after 3PM to scheduled a take out order for later on in the day. We drove in from phoenix airport and made our order during the drive. Elote - delicious, the best dish there. Guac and chip - it was okay. Tamale - liked the green sauce it was in, however there is no filling. Keep that in mind. Carne asada - came with both a hard shell tortilla and two soft ones along with beans and rice. The flavor was Smokey, did not really care for it. Corn cake (not pictured) - really good!! Comes with ice cream and I liked the texture.
Outstanding service and a great menu.
The Elote corn was amazing. This place is always fully booked. If you to eat at Elote on your next trip to Sedona show up 10 minutes before they open and you will usually get a table.
Our much-anticipated evening at Elote was met with a blend
Our much-anticipated evening at Elote was met with a blend of highs and lows. After months of eager anticipation, our group of six women arrived to find the atmosphere welcoming, with a cozy ambiance that set the stage for a memorable evening. The service, while undeniably friendly, bordered on overly enthusiastic. Still, it's clear the staff's intentions were genuine and the efforts were appreciated, even if slightly overwhelming. As for the food, it left much to be desired. While the dishes were adequately prepared, they fell short of the culinary expectations one might have for a highly-rated establishment. My dish, for example, came with two corn crusted scallops on a plate that my friends and I joked resembled Thanksgiving dinner - tomato jam (kinda tasted like cranberry sauce), white truffle crema (which seemed more like sour cream), pickled onions, and sprinkled with dried corn kernels. I was not expecting that! A few of my friends were also quite underwhelmed and felt like their dishes could've been better seasoned because they were bland. This was my second time visiting Elote. And, to be honest, I was reluctant going back as my first visit wasn't amazing either. Our experience can be summed up as pleasant but not exceptional. While the service was attentive, the overall culinary experience failed to leave a lasting impression. With a few tweaks to the menu and a touch of less intensity from the staff, Elote has the potential to elevate its dining experience to truly memorable heights. With all its great reviews, maybe I'm the oddball. Regardless, I certainly have hopes for continued success for this charming establishment.
Not your usual Cafe
What a lucky find. We happened onto Elote Cafe almost by accident. It was very busy even at 5 pm but fortunately they had 2 bar seats available. We went against our rules of not ordering multiple appetizers instead of mains as we’re all too often disappointed with some of the choices made. We were not disappointed. First we started with the daily special blood orange Margarita. It was a bit pricey but very good. The gratis house tortilla chips and salsa were top notch. The appetizers arrived in twos and spaced sufficiently to allow time to eat the first two. The beet salad and the guacamole dip were delicious. The beet salad was perfect and refreshing. The guacamole also was delicious with large chunks of avocado instead of it all being smashed into a paste. The green corn tamale and fish tacos followed. The tamale was perfectly steamed and flavourful. The tacos were generous and used sea bass which was far better than some fish tacos that often use boring flavourless fish. Our seats afforded us a view of the bar action and the restaurant. The employees clearly knew how to run this place while being excellent hosts to their guests. We went in hungry and left more than satisfied and all within less than 1 hour.
Very fine nouveau Mexicano.
Creative and whimsical. Had the duck carnitas - delicious. Be careful if you try to book online earlier. The service used defaults to a later date if nothing is available when you want it. We didn't realize til we got there. Luckily they fit us in.
Very disappointed in the food and ambiance.
All the hype about this place is unreal. I feel sorry about spending my money and time here. A poor rendition of Mexican food at best. Don't believe the hype and save yourself the time and money to eat here. Subpar food and ambience.
Great dishes.
My favorite been the halibut. Great drinks and fantastic dessert. Highly recommend to try it
A must stop for Mexican food!
YUM! I had seen this restaurant on a few tik toks and it did not disappoint. We did not have a reservation, so we had to sit outside. There were heaters and blankets to use. We ordered guacamole and the bowl was huge. It was really good. My daughter and I shared the smoked brisket enchiladas and they were amazing. I had the highlands margarita and it was so good. Highly recommend.
Taste bud crazy Mexican food
Best Mexican ever Came here from Salt Lake City for hiking and food. Both were great but the food was incredible. Appetizer Elote (corn dip and goat cheese balls Entree: Brisket enchiladas and Smoked pork cheeks, dessert sweet corn bread with berries and homemade ice cream. BOMB.COM.
Amazing dining experience!
The atmosphere is charming yet casual. The food and drinks were wonderful!. Our server was attentive and helpful. Amazing dining experience!
Elote Exellence!
An awesome meal and Johnny was superb at recommendations and service. We had the Tamale appetizer and the smoked pork cheeks for dinner. Both were excellent. The only complaint we had was that we did not take the opportunity to go back for another meal.
Slightly overpriced, but the taste factor is exceptional.
A little overpriced for the Mexican dishes they're serving, but understandable because of the prestige of the location. I love their twist on the Southwest-Mexican flavors. the cocktail of the day which is white peach margarita is $16 for the glass?!!! Too overpriced. However, I loved the lamb adobo which I had a very huge portion! Complex flavors. The buffalo mole poblano is ok, but expected a richer mole! The elote dip is SUBLIME as well as the tomato-nopales salad. The service is very kind and attentive, the ambiance is posh and cozy. Great great experience
Excellent foodie restaurant
We called to see if we could somehow get a reservation and were able to get a seat at the bar. The food was amazing! We highly recommend this restaurant. Reservations are needed and they were booked a month in advance. Plan accordingly. A foodies must!
Amazing experience with family and new friends
Great ambience unique Mexican food with a twist .our server Adrian very attentive and explicit about the menu and the history of the place and the tequila and mezcal.food was amazing and the chef came to our table with so much care and pride .

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.

Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
