They're Codding us!
Although the ambience was good, and our waiter very pleasant, some of the meal was almost inedible (the cod was rubbery, suggesting reheating, so it wasn't eaten) and expensive (20euros for a small plate of shellfish). Well, I have eaten there now, so never again.
Be the first to ReplyHmm. Frenetic
Hmm. This establishment is a very interesting and quirky place, with lots of history. I do think that the word 'frenetic' about sums it up, though. Although we enjoyed the liveliness of the place, l wish we hadn't eaten here and had just had a drink. The food was very average, certainly nothing special. Plain and simple, and quite pricey. We had a salad, croquettes, chorizo, chickpeas and spinach, and cod pieces. Nothing outstanding on any of the dishes. For our tastes, the fish was the best dish. The waiter we had was a nice guy, though. l think it must be quite a difficult job given the busyness of the place and having to safely manoeuvre around the cramped dining area. I'd like to leave a more positive review, but this was probably the poorest dining experience of our 3 day break in Seville. We really enjoyed our stay in the city but unfortunately this wasn't a highlight for us.
Be the first to ReplyNor a tourist trap. Delivers authenticity!
As the oldest in the city, this tapas bar is on everybody's list, and so there are queues just before opening. We joined a short queue at 13:00 and were at the bar in 5 minutes. Busy, atmospheric, and authentic, this place delivers against all the "tourist trap" expectations. It's not touristy at all. Friendly staff and excellent food. Our pescado frito was the best we had in our week (we ordered it 4 times in various places). A lovely & generous assortment of the freshest fish (some whole!) & chocos (cuttlefish) cooked perfectly. We also had the suckling lamb cutlets, which were delicious. Reasonably priced, too. Recommended.

Stunning decor, ancient aluzeros, lively bar downstairs and white table cloth restaurant upstairs. We made reservations ( a must) and had dinner upstairs. Outstanding food, wine list . Stylish, efficient and friendly staff. Wonderful

Yes it's touristy but thee food is great , the staff are great and you'll find plenty ty of Spaniards eating here. Sit downstairs to stay in the heart of the action.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth the queue.
This was one of the many highlights on a recent trip to Sevilla. Very authentic and although had to queue for a short while, once a spot at the bar became free we tucked in to some delicious Tapas and wine. Great fun place, wonderful atmosphere, lovely attentive staff, and you bill is written in chalk on the bar as you order. Very reasonable prices as well for such a well know spot.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food and drink
We ordered beef sirloin and lamb chops for food and sangria for drink. All was amazing! Just one point: They donโt ask you how you would like your Steak! But if you go there, trust them cuz they know what they do! Also, servers donโt know English well and wi--fi does not work, but it was worth it! Food was amazing. BTW, if you donโt wanna wait in line, reserve beforehand.

Was disappointing. We didn't think the waiters were particularly friendly. We queued to get in although we had reserved a table but then were told to go upstairs to restaurant. It lacked atmosphere upstairs but we didn't have a choice. I had phoned ahead to say we were running 10 minutes late but there was no need to have done so. Booking was not easy, you dont seem to be able to book on line and i called several times before call was pucked up, several times i just got cut off.... Food came very quickly, bit too quickly. All fish fishes served with same potato, corgette, garnish, etc. I had asked for my fish to be served without garlic but it came with loads of it, i am garlic intolerant so that was very disappointing. Good wine list though. Overall ok but definitely not great or welcoming and wouldn't go back, there are lots of great restaurants and tapas bars in Seville.
Be the first to ReplyItโs not good, so much better elsewhere
The food was very average. Waiters are quite overbearing and condescending. Itโs a historical place and i think they ride on that because they know people will come. I went to a newer tapas restaurant the previous night which was lightyears away in the food. Honestly itโs worth going elsewhere if youโre planning a trip to seville as thereโs so much more the city offers.
Be the first to ReplyNot as good as it was
We have visited El Rinconcillo many times. Regrettably this year wasn't great. This is partly due to the Covid restrictions which controls the number of people in the building which is a good thing but detracts from the atmosphere. However the biggest let down was the attitude of the staff who at best are laid back, at worst inattentive. The food and drink remain of good quality and reasonably priced (which I guess is the main thing).
Be the first to ReplyWhat did you expect from El Rinconcillo
Yes. It's full of tourists. Yes the waiters can be grumpy because of this. Yes the food is fairly ok but nothing special.
But if you come with the right frame of mind you can soak up some proper history. Amazing.
Stay a while, or if you are there when things are quieter and the staff are friendly and chatty.
Bit of a cliche, but still worth it
My wife had been here before, so we decided to try it. We sat at the bar as we did not have a reservation. Staff were fine but a little cool: they have seen it all a million times, so we can forgive them that. Service was prompt and attentive. Food and wine good. Are there better tapas places in Seville? Of course. Do they have the history and old school charm? Definitely not. And that is why you come here. And that is why it is worth it.
Be the first to ReplyReputation over substance
Whatever you do don't let them sit you upstairs. Its totally different experience to downstairs..The food on the whole excellent however the desserts are poor at best.
The staff are not the friendliest and can appear arrogant..
The place is relying on its reputation rather than delivering the goods would be a fair summary.
Nothing special
Iโd heard that this was the place to go for a really nice apparently being the oldest restaurant in Seville.
To be honest it wasnโt all that. This is obviously a very popular destination as people were queuing to get in. My recommendation is book ahead.
The food was ok but nothing special albeit I did have a nice steak. Service was slow but very little English was spoken by the staff.
All in all I would say there was nothing wrong with the restaurant but with so many others in the city there are definitely others you can eat at which would be cheaper.
