Quality Spot!
Very fine mexican food. The decor is nice, and food is tasty. I really enjoyed the refried beans. The carnitas were a bit dry, but still very enjoyable. Liked it enough to already recommend to someone else. Great job!

I have eaten here several times. I is not too close to my home but well worth the drive. I had the Chili Relleno, it was fantastic. this is my go to Mexican dish and I was not disappointed. It came to me VERY hot and taste. Service was only excelled by the taste of the food. I'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent. Highly recommend
Food was amazing and staff were fantastic. So friendly and lively. Food was exactly as I asked and accommodations were met perfectly. Would recommend to anyone with a big appetite and looking for a welcoming environment.
Be the first to ReplyNice Restaruant and Friendly Staff
The staff was friendly and the food was pretty good. I would come back here. The inside looks different and I would take guests here.
Be the first to ReplyQuick dinner
Quick dinner alone early evening. Dark inside but comfortable enough. Did not have fajitas on dinner menu. They did have something similar,...but not. Prices a bit on the high side. Could not add any side items to dinner entree such as an enchiladas, taco, etc. Chips seemed to be made right but they tasted a bit stale along with uneventful salsa. They do not offer desert.

I have been going to El Novillero since I was a little kid, and the restaurant has stayed consistently fantastic over the years. The food is authentic, delicious, and comes in portions that would satisfy even those with the largest of appetites. In addition to great food, the staff is very personable, and the atmosphere (when indoor dining was occurring) was warm and family friendly. Although I would personally enjoy margaritas with tequila, or maybe a cheeky shot or two, the lack of hard alcohol at this establishments keeps the restaurant family friendly the volume down to comfortable levels. El Novillero is a great restaurant for couples, families, and friends for lunch or dinner, with leftovers serving as a great meal for the following day.
Be the first to ReplyStill excellent!
I lived in Sacramento for many years and had many great meals at this restaurant. I moved 12 miles down Hwy 80 to Davis 23 years ago and it had probably been at least 15 years since I dined there. I returned recently with a friend and found that the food is still excellent. The "ambiance" is very nice as well, a fine looking building with a beautiful and ornate interior. The waiters are prompt and attentive. They are celebrating a half century (1970-2020) this year and are as good as ever. One of Sacramento's premier Mexican restaurants!

Be the first to ReplyStill the same but better
Went there last night after a community cello -33 of them concert and a drummer at Parkside community s land park and both were wonderful. Both delicious in its assemble and tastes and flavor. The price was right for both of them and the one music entreatment flavored the second taste buds of authentic sights sounds and sweet lard base Mexican foods as only lard can do for the tortillas beans and all good things. The rice was perfection not dry nor over Ladened with grease just perfect. Chips home made crunchy not greasy and salsa pure blended- not my preference but could not stop dipping even when the meal came still dippy chips. Ah the pork of perfection bite size cubes with burst of flavor in every chop yet not your typical chewy pork again perfection. Then the chilli verde was plentiful but not chunky my preference but oh so tasty. Beans and rice not your typical USA version must be the lard. Chili tea no was very good and tasty perfectly cooked egg crust topped with chucks fixings tasty but-atypical and tasty but the pepper was rightfully done. Again can’t go wrong only right thing happen when you go. At first waiter and female seater were attentive through the meal but only I asked to package up and add take home beans and more salsa did the disappear she the one I asked never returned and he finally came and I informed him my request as he left the bill. I did not sign it till he completed my request and he was happy to inform me the beans were extra which was fine but until my request was granted did I sign and give him a proper tip Go have a good time for all groups and parties big and small. As they said about FATS as an institution right behind us this restaurant with the food on par bien comidas por todos. PS amble safe parking

When in Sacramento visiting family, a night out for great Mexican food is always on the itinerary, and that means EN! Over the years, We’ve been fortunate to have Michael as our server most of the time. Enjoying a restaurant meal depends on service as much as great food, and this gentleman makes it an over the top positive memory. They understand “kids” here and seem to go out of their way to get them served first. I have no clear favorites, as I try something new each visit. Their fish/shrimp dishes are outstanding as are their meat entrees, but I think they do “excellent” with pork! This time I had “La Bandera Mexicana”. This is a combination plate that could easily fed two adults! I’m not a light weight eater, but barely made a dent!Check it out on the menu, wife & I will share next time! We’ll be back!
