Ultra-mod, incredible view, abundant offerings, reasonable prices
Your first experience with El Five (EF) is likely to be wandering around the correct intersection for a while. Don't give up! The entrance is tucked deep within a covered passage of the building -- where you take an elevator to the top (5th) floor. (A guess about the name: You take the EL-evator to floor FIVE.) On stepping into EF, you're struck by an ultra-mod, big-city-chic decor. As you're shown to your table, you're struck by a drop-dead view of Denver — from central city to the western edges of America's unparalleled Great Plains. (TIP for summer visitors: Dine al fresco by booking as soon as you’re able, at an early hour, to get outdoor seating.) As to food and drink: EF’s tag line is "Tapas de Gibraltar," which is totally fitting, as the menu overflows with dishes and ingredients of the world’s healthiest cuisine—whether you call it Mediterranean or Spanish. My wife and I are not fans of spicy foods, and thus would have preferred more naked servings, especially of the otherwise delicious sea bass we shared. As is appropriate with tapas, quantities of menu items were less than mains, but easily sufficient to share. The two of us managed to devour five selections, ranging from couscous to lamb sausage to spanakopita, and more. Prices are very reasonable for Denver. Our five food items, two drinks each, fees, taxes, and generous tip amounted to $237.

We loved everything about this restaurant. The view is spectacular of the Denver citywide scape. The each bite of food was unique, both visually and tastefully delicious. The service was impeccable. We will be back.

Lot’s of hype and hope around this place, yes it’s nice, all very trendy, once you get in there. But the buzz and bluster is the main event, a close second for drinks, but the food lags in third place. What was good was just that, not wow. Sadly a couple of dishes were plain wrong (cooking and taste), we mentioned it whilst handing back our near full plates. No interest, at all from either staff member. Pity, this is lauded as a Denver must do. Suggest you must do any other place in this lovely city…
Be the first to ReplyEclectic and great views!
We came here for drinks before our dinner at Linger. This restaurant has such a cool and eclectic vibe. Beautiful views of the city and the decor is so funky and interesting. There was so much to look at. We sat at the bar and it was like a show watching the bartenders make and create so many awesome cocktails. We did order the matzah ball dumplings which were very interesting. I enjoyed them. The service was a bit slow. It took almost 35 minutes to get our one dish. Other than that, I would definitely go back to sample other dishes. All the food we saw coming out to the people around us looked amazing!

What can be said? The view is beautiful and if you score a nice table, you'll have views of the Denver skyline. This is a pricey venue, but all the elements do not come together. You do need to book far in advance, and my son (who has dined here previously) was anxious to take my wife and I for a little celebration since we were in Denver. Unfortunately, we had a waiter who just wasn't on top of things, and while the front of the house knew/acknowledged the special evening, our waiter did not, which then upset my son a bit, and you get the picture. We were totally let down. This caliber of dining/cost should be able to handle special days like birthdays, anniversaries, etc... My son did speak to the manager mid meal and again after the meal, and he apologized. So, how about the drinks? Pretty good, but nothing exceptional, and the same for the food. Some dishes were quite tasty, and others were simply OK. Service and timing from the kitchen was good, critical for Tapas. The paella was passable but I would rank in the lower third of the paella I've had at almost every other Spanish/Tapas restaurant we've been too, and we've visited many. I would say the Patas Bravas were probably the best plate of the evening. Perhaps you might have better luck, but if you have something special to celebrate, choose another venue. I would not trust the service/food to meet your expectations here, especially on a special night.

The food was delicious and we had a fantastic time for the most part. However it was apparent as soon as we walked in we were near the youngest people there. We were a group of mainly 20 year old and one 21 year old. They servers quickly paid far more attention to other tables than us. We found hair in our cheesecake ans couldn't catch our waiter as she walked by and ignored us multiple times. When we found someone else they were very rude and in the end did not even give a discount for a wad of hair in the dessert of multiple dirty spoons. It just put a damper on our night as we had multiple birthdays and were willing to spend good money and have a nice night out. Probably will not be returning.
Be the first to ReplyGood- but didn’t live up to our high expectations
We heard from several different friends that this was one of their top restaurants in Denver, so we’d been excited to try it for a while. And all of the food was good - we tried an assortment of tapas and some paella - but nothing blew us away. For the price and hype, we were expecting amazing! The staff was super friendly but for whatever reason the pacing on our dishes was a little off, too, as we had a bunch of things come all at once and then long gaps waiting for a bottle of wine and the paella to come out. It’s definitely a cool vibe and has a great patio and view, but I think I’d go back to sit at the bar / have happy hour instead of special occasion or date night out.

Taken here by our son who had had a company dinner here, he said the food this time was even better! The garlic puree which accompanied several of the dishes (spreads of the Med, the seafood and carne paellas) was so light and mild tasting, we kept going back for more! Highly recommend the goat cheese croquetas, the eggplant fries, the rabbit confit and the chickpea tacos as well. Sangria was very nice (frozen strawberries were a nice touch). Prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. Highly recommend this place, will be going back!

Overrated. I feel like the reviews are from people that have not had good paella. Both the carne and seafood consisted of like 4 cups of over seasoned rice and same portion of protein. Spanish bravas were decent. The only saving grace was the sauce which were all good. Overall a huge waste of money in my opinion. Prices are ridiculous.
